Foreign Affairs › Re: Photos: The World In 2016. by nextstep(m): 4:48pm On Dec 21, 2016
Explorers:
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, rides a horse as he parades with his entourage and musicians on the streets of Kano, northern Nigeria on July 6 during the Durbar Festival.
Please note that I respect the Emir's position as traditional ruler, and really admire his person, so no disrespect intended.

This picture signifies for me a lot that's wrong with Nigeria: how can the Emir not do anything about the filth and poverty of his own people? He should be working hard to invite businesses to Kano. Collaborate with the governor and lift people out of poverty. What about all the Kano wealth end elites?

We always surround ourselves with the finest things, leaving the rest of our society in squalor. Sadly, here he is with his regalia, marching through filth.

But my broda, auctioning of matured daughters is an extension of baby trade, okwa ya? grin

*joins in running out of thread*

But seriously, isn't this how it's always been done: Parents start talking to other parents about finding a suitable partner for their adult children. Then they show pictures of said child, talk about their qualities... etc. Who mentioned auction? Did the father mention any money?

Veterinarian... as in a doctor for pets... likely a dog in this case.

There's no story here: a dog chewed on panties and swallowed it. Probably developed stomach aches. Xray revealed foreign material. Surgery to remove it.

Car Talk › Re: What Is Tge Advantage Of Hybrid Cars Over Non Hybrids by nextstep(m): 8:28pm On Dec 18, 2016
In Nigeria, no advantage whatsoever.

1. They are expensive. Sure you'll be saving about 10 a week of fuel. 10k*50 weeks if you drive it every day is about 500k. That hybrid likely cost 2-4M more than a used petrol-only car so you need to keep the car for 4-8 years before you break even. I can afford 10k today, but not 2M extra so no hybrid for me.

2. Expensive to maintain

3. You can't take it to most mechanics as they will just break it for you.

Crime › Re: Just In 1year:lagos Records 246 Murder, 486 Armed Robbery Cases by nextstep(m): 2:31pm On Dec 14, 2016
Lagos population is arguably 16 million, with 246 recorded murders.

State of California, population 38 million, 2142 reported murders.

California has almost 2.5x the population of Lagos, but almost 9x the murders. Lagos is statistically safer than the richest country in the world.

Just food for thought. Look it up on google

Gov't should help police by training and paying them well. Why should I call police when they will

a). Falsely accuse me and insist on bail money
b). Make me pay for fuel or mobilization before they do anything
c). Anytime I jam them for road, they will be asking me to bring chop money, just because I exist.
d). They will over complicate matters, looking for rabbit in the bush and inventing stories

I suppose it's like trying to describe how really heavy objects (e.g. airplanes) can fly to someone who refuses to believe it.

Rockets go in the air.
Rockets go into space
Rockets can escape Earth gravity and rendezvous with other objects in space.
Rockets can land back on Earth
Why is it hard to believe that rockets can land on the moon?

Safety first!!! I don't understand why people get angry. What if there was a mechanical failure mid flight? Smh. Humans are the most ungrateful creatures on God's green earth.
angry
A sensible airline would say: "dear customers, due to mechanical failure or uncompleted maintenance, we need to postpone these flights".
What Arik probably said: "we have cancelled these flights"

I don't think its unreasonable to be upset after you've paid for ticket (which is not cheap), paid for petrol and/or hotel, and have important meetings upon arrival, and the airline just cancels without any good reason given.

How are they different from all the ajebutter children of Nigeria (and there are many)? Is it their fault they were lucky to be born into wealthy or powerful families?
Business › Re: University Of Ibadan Produces Rice, 10kg Costs N4k, 25kg Costs N9,500 (Pics) by nextstep(m): 2:02pm On Dec 08, 2016
stobery:
Nonsense, what will make a 50kg bag of local rice to cost 19k?

Are they also buying dollar from the BDC?
If 25kg is selling for 9.5k, and you merely double to 50kg, won't you get 19k? True maybe a discount for buying larger, but it's in the same ballpark.

Are you saying that 25kg local rice should not cost 9.5k?

The cost of local rice is still affected by the price of seedlings, fertilizer, machines to cultivate, tend, and harvest, petrol for those machines, transport to milling, the bags, milling machines, transport to market. The milling process also needs generator and diesel. Then add the fact that those selling it need enough profit to take care of their own personal expenses, which have also risen. Even university expenses have gone up.

The only thing that is "local" about the rice is the land and labour. Everything else is dollar-dependent.

Celebrities › Re: Linda Ikeji Buys A 2016 Range Rover Autobiography (photos) by nextstep(m): 11:37pm On Dec 06, 2016
The way I see it, there are 3 good reasons for the purchase:

1. if the car is a business expense, she need not pay income tax on that money (she'll pay VAT, sure, but that is also a deductible expense)
2. if she sold the Sport, then she didn't need to pay that much to upgrade
3. this enhances her profile among our consumer society, and with advertisers, which will help her make more money

I think it's a very smart move. I'd have used the money to build luxury rentals (since cars are a liability), but let me find 70M first grin
Romance › Re: The Disadvantage Of Being Disvirgined Before Marriage. by nextstep(m): 6:21pm On Dec 03, 2016
Frankly I think all this focus on virginity is sexist, chauvinist and self-serving. Who are men to lecture anybody on any kind of "virtues"?

This mentality harks back to the days when women were supposed to be property, exchanged from father to husband for a bride price. She was not supposed to have an identity of her own, but bound to these two men in her life. The focus on virginity arguably made sense: both parties wanted to be sure they were trading a product of genuine value. As for the woman being traded, who cared what she thought or wanted.

Fortunately times have changed and we are all more enlightened than we used to be about this issue. Sadly some vestiges of a bye gone era still haunt the modern age.

Let people do what they want with their own bodies; accept that women are people too, with their own aspirations, not commodities to be "kept", "protected", "hedged" or "traded" like a valuable painting. Once you do that, you'll feel less need to fixate or advise on something as personal as this.

i.e. none of your damn business

Most impressive. I really like the design, and I'm already considering it for our next project. Ideally, I would like this to be converted to 1-room hostels. I know the answer will scare me, but how much will this building have cost at this stage (including windows, doors, roofing and plastering)?

Chai! See project.

Recent candid picture shows bele.
Past studio photo shoot shows no bele.

Therefore picture from past cancels out recent events? WTF? huh

If she doesn't want ppl to notice her bele and talk about it (I don't blame her), then she should not post pictures.

Not my concern either way, and I wish her the best, but celebrities, media, and bloggers really should stop taking us for a ride.
