I really wish I had a business that could employ these ladies (manufacturing or some other real business). I would offer them jobs right away, to get them away from this rubbish we call government jobs. Why is this even a case for NIS to be investigating, and now punishing. They should focus on making NIS work - be efficient in issuing passports, eliminate bribes, etc - but instead, they are getting all worked up about 5 young women making a viral video (which was totally decent, funny, and well done in my opinion) People are saying "they didn't have something better to to"... they shot the video outside working hours, catching fun. Is that now a crime? |
manuelreports:Don't forget that a healthy, active, (young) father is also one of the best things you can give your children. |
So what we're learning is, US doesn't even have to strike Iran... they will hurt themselves just as well ![]() |
Take the 5M cash. Then put that in T-bills and collect at least 10% annually (500k annually BTW) without having to work for it again. He can always go and look for work later, if work dey hungry am. Just don't use any of the 5M to start a business; don't waste it on flexing; don't waste on babe; don't even build house. Tbills will give you 500k annually from now on dude. |
Which one is "working suspension" again? As in I will still get up early, deal with traffic, come to work for 8-10 hours, to deal with traffic? Yet I'm suspended with no pay? But since work is hard to find, I suppose I will have to suffer through it. Hopefully they will sit up next time |
OP, since you have land, just build a small self contain that you can live in. Later as money comes, you can build the house you want on that same land, small by small, then you can either rent out the self contain or use it as guest room. In the meantime you have saved money on rent, etc. Budget around 1.5M for a very simple, basic place. |
He was a better man. A prudent man. A better president. A better pan-Nigerian. |
You see, good leadership is not where you're from, but in your character. RIP President Yar'adua... |
Permit me to be a skeptic... are we sure people are actually dying? What I mean is, are these manufactured numbers so certain states can collect relief funds? If I'm wrong, I sincerely offer my heartfelt apologies to the dead, and condolences to the families they left behind. |
Ideally, they should just use this money to pay all the debts we have right now. It will save us a ton of interest in the long term. But of course, what wii happen is a certain set of people will buy new houses and cars, even runs girls will be blessed. Dubai real estate loading... Maga don pay... shout hallelujah ohh! But wait oh, didn't Buhari say Abacha didn't steal? Where is this

LordviccoDaGuru:It's terribly embarrassing for another country to tell us what to do with our own money, but because the Nigerian citizen has refused to hold our own government accountable, the US now has the yam and the knife... Honestly, they should just keep that money, and use it for processing Nigeria's visa fees, so we won't have to pay anymore ![]() |
Like play like play this thing is getting serious. Wasn't it 170 cases just yesterday? And this is with the limited testing we have: https://www.nairaland.com/5833989/170-new-coronavirus-cases-reported |
Bigflamie:Agreed. But also shame to Nigerians for hailing thieves and voting for ineffective leaders without vision. |
FarmTech:What is immodest dressing? In many cultures (especially in hot countries) women went topless, and no man harassed them, or thought it was immodest. These were well established societies, mind you, and people held meetings, farmed, and carried on with life without obsessing over breasts. Oyinbo came with their twisted obsession about breasts, and decided they were the sole arbiters of what is modest or not. It's all in the mind. |
Before religion was sex. After humans get rid of religion, sex will remain. Please take your preaching to the rooster and tell him to stop banging hens anyhow. The only time I frown is when it involves children, or when it's against somebody's will. But between any number of consenting adults, irrespective of gender and orientation? Man, I can't be bothered... I'm too busy enjoying my own life, for the short time I have it! ![]() I really like eagleu's post because it summarize very well the twisted state of mind of the overly religious: eagleu: |
covid2019:I'm quoting: "The Rule of 72 is a simple way to determine how long an investment will take to double given a fixed annual rate of interest. By dividing 72 by the annual rate of return, investors obtain a rough estimate of how many years it will take for the initial investment to duplicate itself." Let's say you're able to save 1million in treasury bills at 10%, it would take 7 years to become 2 million (72/10 is approximately 10). Let's also say something costs 100k today and inflation is 14%; its cost will double in 5 years (72/14 is approximately 5). Using the current treasury return and inflation, if you saved your money at 10%, but the cost of materials is increasing at 14%, the cost differential to you is about 4%. Which means that, at best, it will cost you more to wait to build your house, even for one year. Investing in business is also an option, but you also have to account for the risk of the business vs. the sure thing of having a home. |
My phone is unlocked... if you look in it and don't like what you see... don't get upset. ![]() |
11 million at 29? You've done really well. I would suggest you build a small house now... I usually advocate people put their savings in treasuries, but in the current situation, it's best to have a place you call home, and never have to work to pay rent again (even though you said you're squatting) Hedging against the Naira makes sense, but consider that most of the things you will buy for your house will be dollar-denominated. Yes, you pay Naira for iron, doors, and paint, but all those items are either fully imported or have 80%+ imported raw materials. Inflation is real, and even if the value of your dom account stays the same in dollar terms, the materials will be 14%+ more expensive after a year (and would have doubled in 5 years, per rule of 72). |
Build the house. |
Let's arrest them and put them in enclosed spaces... because staying in close proximity is exactly how to avoid the spread. ![]() |
2by40ft: SalamRushdie:I think this is inaccurate. 90% or more people around the world have recovered from Covid19. I'd say 99% of those did not use Chloroquine nor Zithromax. The data is still very very sketchy at this stage, and I don't like people getting false hopes. The science itself does not make sense - though we agree it's plausible that it could cure, scientists are not ready to agree that it does. Chloroquine is aimed at the plasmodium falciparum that causes malaria, not at viruses. It does not cure influenza (a related virus) or other novel viruses, so the chances it could affect neo coronavirus are slim to none. Zithromax is an antibiotic - works against bacteria, not viruses. urchcoded:Exactly right. Medicines are not approved on anecdotal report... this is why we have clinical test and trials, placebos, blind tests, etc, so we have strong evidence one way or the other. Better to know it doesn't work, than to have a false hope that it does, while damaging the livers and other organs by administering the wrong medicine. I'd be curious if any sales of chloroquine remits to the governor's pockets. https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/fda-cautions-against-use-hydroxychloroquine-or-chloroquine-covid-19-outside-hospital-setting-or https://www.wsj.com/articles/chinese-doctors-at-coronavirus-hub-cast-doubt-on-chloroquine-as-cure-11586448660 https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/europe-locks-down-chloroquine-scripts-as-researchers-china-report-positive-controlled-covid |
Yenefer:... and many governments around the world are realizing it's silly to waste taxpayers' money and time on prosecuting weed: many states in the US, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Russia, Australia don't harass people over weed. Ideally it should be regulated like alchohol (which also has damaging side-effects), but ultimately adults can decide if they want to partake or not. Personally, not a fan, and would discourage my kids from using it (just like I would discourage them from drinking spirits on a regular basis, or eating too much sugary foods for that matter) Hunger and lack of good drinking water are far more pressing issues. |

Lolliop:But if it's guaranteed no loss for everybody, who pays the winners? I mean, 1000 players, 10 winners, 990 losers. Losers pay for the winners, and the house takes a cut. You seem to be implying money will be manufactured and everybody wins! |
Yenefer:You know, you can just engineer the engines to fail on command. Or a nice little ball that gets released into the fuel line. Lot cheaper than developing and installing AI. |
senatordave1:You mean the (allegedly) rotten rice? |
ProfDview1:Yes, leave your honest vocation and become a crook just because girls want you to spend on them. When you get caught, or your mugu stops paying, those same girls will not skip a beat as they move on to the next spender. By then you would have bought her some expensive phones, maybe help her through schoo or open boutique. Then after she leaves you, you'll be back here, echoing the complaints of other guys who have spent so much money on a girl who just walks away at the end of the day. And you know what pains me the most about yahoo boys? Their money is spent on clubbing, cars, gadgets, women. It's the rare g-guy that uses the money to feed parents, buys land, or build some lasting assets. Continue working on your craft; rebrand if you need to; and keep hustling. You don't need gold diggers, trust me. |
ninety5:We're safe, thank you... hope you will continue to stay safe: What's the dilemma? Don't sleep with her sister. Case closed. I would even suggest you start recording your conversations with her... in case you need backup. |
Kudos to all officials involved, particularly Oyo state government, and thanks to Nigerians who made noise. To those shouting "she's Igbo", or "she's Yoruba"... does it matter? You people complain that we're too tribalist or sectionalist; you complain about people who vote based on ethnicity; you complain about quota; you complain when a certain state gets more of anything; Yet the first thing you do is check name and start assigning tribe so you can say: "no wonder... she's from that side". |
goaldynboy:1. I'm from Asaba of Delta parents; I was born in Ibadan. I have a fond affinity for Ibadan till today, and for Oyo state in general. 2. None of us on this forum knows the true situation with her, and I commend Oyo state government for having the initiative to do the right thing, irrespective of who she is - the truth should emerge eventually. 3. Anybody can put any name on a Nigerian passport; especially for somebody being trafficked. |
Moralgladiator:If we followed your comment to its natural conclusion, you might also be advocating for no private schools in the first place. After all, not every parent can afford private schools, so we should all sit and wait for government to provide free primary education for everybody. Until then, because there's not enough public schools, those who cannot attend should sit at home for a decade. No private lessons lessons either, because it's an unfair advantage against those who can't afford them. |
wonder233:So we should hold back a generation of students, because government cannot even attempt to provide any kind of online tuition for their children? A government that prioritizes black Prados over blackboards, talk less of computers for children. Schools in practically every country outside Africa are still in session online - public and private, primary all the way to university. And you know the irony, elite children are not going to be held back - they have the resources to enroll in foreign online classes. |
