Well played madam, well played. I don't like it, but I have to admit to brilliance when I see it. If Gandollar can have his hand held high by Mr. Kwarruption, cutting grass is still a N200million project, loot (that was not looted) is returned yet we're still borrowing massively... I can't complain about this brilliant sleight of hand. |
When are we going to change the name "Nairaland" to "Snakeland"? ![]() |
Think about this: if other people who think like you also buy land in this area, soon that area will become wealthy. Most places we considered "bush" 20, 30 years ago are highbrow now. Consider somebody who was living in Surulere buying land in Lekki in 1990. Please buy where your money can... owning your home and not paying rent is part of becoming wealthy. |
Man, I miss those days sha... time flies. |
Exc2000:It's not published, but has been peer reviewed and corroborated with the personal experience of other men and women I know. If you're planning to use the fact that the study is not published to diminish the fact that rapes happen, then I'll concede: you've won the argument. |
Is it now a crime to sell products cheaper to increase patronage? |
Exc2000:It's backed by my 40+ year empirical study of Nigerian men and their attitudes towards sex, male chauvinism, and in some cases misogyny. You see it in daily life, even here. |
KingAzubuike:Scores cannot be settled if you did no wrong. I can comfortably say that not one woman can accuse me of rape. Yes, unfortunately there are false accusers (which detract from the serious truthful ones), but that it a separate issue. Till today, I shake my head when I think of the girls who were in my bed (sometimes naked), but we didn't go all the way because she was feeling somehow. I always console myself with: "it's better to wish you had done it, than to wish you hadn't done it." No puna is worth my peace of mind. |
yankison:I won't argue about your use of the word harlot (though I disagree that she should name-shamed). However, nobody, prostitutes and harlots included, deserves to be raped. That's just not on. |
safarigirl: Exc2000:This post is typical of many men in this country... rather than take the time to listen to a complex issue, the knee jerk reaction is proffered. Women in Nigeria are often raped by the ones closest to them: family friends, cousins, uncles, brothers. All these women are somebody's sister. Nobody talks about it because of stigma, but it does happen a lot more than you can imagine. When it trends, women are empowered to tell their stories (which most people don't want to believe), and are stigmatized for it. I'm not a fan of victimization, but in a culture where men are often regarded as "can do no wrong" when it comes to sex, yet women are shamed if they so much as hint at anything sexual, you have to call a spade a spade. |
Mraphel:Let what is trending trend. These things happen, so we need to encourage people to speak up about all these issues. It's no use comparing what's worse, when we can tackle each one and remove their occurrence from society. The only way that will happen is making people aware, having victims share their stories (without being told that there are worse things than what they experienced), and bringing it out of the shadows. |
DominusPrime:Quite right... we need proof, witnesses, corroboration. Where was she on so so so date? Where ws he on that date and time? Who saw her or him during those times, etc. Any proof of the messages on either's phone? If this was a serious country, you can ask MTN for records of communication between their numbers. Unfortunately, there has been a spate of initially serious accusations that later turned out to be hoaxes - and sometime the girl even say it was a "joke". These diminish the real and serious cases of rape. If she turns out to have lied, I don't mind contributing 2k to a fund so police can detain her for a weekend. |
Aso Rock and Police IG's headquarters are there... una no go protest there? Fear of watery beans is the beginning of wisdom sha ![]() Lives are being snuffed right here in Naija, but you want to go and feel among. Later you will be crying say no visa ![]() |
Yet, the American president insinuated that Colin Kaepernick (and other players who took a knee in protest of Black lives being killed) are not patriots for protesting agains injustice. |
tosinntoyin:Two things: 1. You will not have more time for your kids if you start a business. A business requires your attention more than your commute to work. 2. I'd also wager that you will not be able to recoup enough to repay your salary over the next six months to one year. I'd say keep your job, and hold on to your savings (try to get some interest, so put it into fixed deposits or something). You need to have cash in case something comes up, especially since you have young children. I understand spending 4 hours on the road is something else, but I can't imagine any business that will be less stressful. You will have a workable solution when school starts, for sure. |
Akinsoladwayne:This has got to be a joke. In this Buhari Era, upon say we dey suffer Coro2020, you're still complaining that they gave you (only) one piece of meat? If you want to eat more meat, please give your brother's wife money to buy more, or better yet, go and eat all the meat you want in your own house. Damn right you have to eat the food like that... you're in her house na. |
First time I visited KWASU I was stupified... such and incredibly beautiful (albeit recent) campus. I was so glad to see that various state governments were doing better for their people. There is development happening all over the country, in spite of what many naysayers think. I'm from Asaba, BTW, to give name checkers something to consider. |
BeautifulWoman:I'm not sure I understand. I don't think anybody is testing faith. Consider: putting somebody underwater for over 1 minute will kill them; giving communion bread that has fungus on it will make people sick; so will tiny microscopic viruses floating in air droplets from infected people. We don't put people underwater for too long in the name of baptism; we try to make what we eat in Church safe; and we try to limit the spread of the virus by social distancing, masks, and other guidelines. God has given humans the ability to seek wisdom, and to apply it. I reckon He would be disappointed that some people are choosing to abandon wisdom and bring harm to themselves and others. People: "God please protect me from sickness"... God: "why then do you insist on getting infected? I have revealed to you what causes this sickness, how to avoid it, and in time how to cure it" |
obailala:Oh.. I'm following constituted authority which says we should keep social distance. I have not intent on testing anybody. Wasn't there a pastor who died recently? "Pastor Who Defied Social Distancing Dies After Contracting Covid-19, Church Says" https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/14/us/bishop-gerald-glenn-coronavirus.html |
Dpharisee:Very correct... in fact this is one of Jesus' earliest teachings. "Healing is fundamental to the redemptive work of Jesus. To allow the idol of coronavirus to determine the scope of congregational worship in the house of God is an abomination of gargantuan proportions," Well, I suppose he can either keep his congregation safe by following guidelines, or he may soon not have a congregation. |
Abeg, every administration has its good and bad. Obasanjo: rebuilding the nation, but some stealing and high-handedness Yaradua: progress in establishing rule of law and nation healing, but legacy damaged by cabal during illness Jonathan: improving infrastructure and prosperity, freedom of speech, but massive looting (allegedly not by him personally) Buhari: some continued infrastructure and sanitization of parts of government, but repressive, unimaginative, and selective in punishment |
Funny how a scientific discussion degenerates into abuse. The evidence is overwhelming that dinosaurs existed, and that nature of cuts and injuries to bones can give an insight to how it died, or at least what happened to its body. The Bible is estimated to be, what, 2000-6000 years old? It's interesting to consider if dinosaurs were discovered before then (before Christianity, before Islam, before Judaism). What types of debates would we have had then? How would people explain their discoveries? Would the Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese, Nok, Yoruba, Hindus, etc. have had existential crises about their own scriptures? |
OP, just curious, what was the diagnosis, and what was the medicine? In looking at the previous topic, I was reminded of molluscum contagiosum. I see it was Zinnat and Mupiderm Ointment. Thanks. |
Nice poetry... but these our leaders sef... only to lie, chop and clean mouth. |
... and when they get sick, they will blame everybody else: they will blame the state for not banning them; they will blame the venue for allowing them in; they will blame the hospitals for not having enough equipment; they will even blame the pool builder. |
MrBrownJay1:I don't think she can pay half of the cost of a video from her first royalty check. As in video cost 4M (she owes 2M). The video brings in 8M, making profit 4M. Her profit is thus 2M with which she can pay her half. I'd like to see anywhere where a video brings 100% gross receipts. Did the video even break even? It will take several checks from her to at least to make 2M. I agree with your point about gross profit. However, she has not demonstrated that she was cheated out of her profits. To be clear, she may have claimed, but has not demonstrated. She can bring her evidence to court (or social media), so we can do better accounting. In the absence of hard facts, we can only speculate, and I chose to side with the record label that has more to lose if found guilty of breach. |
MrBrownJay1:We are circulating around the same thing: - he claims he owes 100% of the videos while he doesnt He owns 100% of the videos she did while in the label. Section 9 assigns performances (live, recorded, etc) 100% to him. Even if he paid only 50% of the cost, the contract assigns all of the video to him. - he claims she owes him 100% of video production cost, while she doesnt He paid 100% of the cost, she owes him her share (50%). I don't see a claim she owes 100% of the cost. Please point me to anywhere that claim is made. - he hijacked her vevo (and possibly royalties) while the contract says only a Lagos court can decide that. If she feels there's a dispute, she is free to take him to court. However, section 15. (NON-CIRMUMVENTION) says essentially that "Artists shall not detrimentally interfere with the efforts of Company to distribute..." Since the music video belongs to the Label (section 9), and not to Cynthia, the label essentially owns how and when the video is played, including YouTube, Vevo, radio stations, etc. and can take steps to protect its property, including taking ownership of the page for the brand "Cynthia Morgan". She assigned that right in section 10 (LICENSE FOR USE OF NAME AND IMAGE). - the minute she stepped out of the contract and they accepted that she could leave, then the record label had NO MORE CLAIM over these songs.... apart from the 50% royalties to offset the debts Contracts end, but the ownership of the songs remains with the Label. They own the rights (section 9), they own the copyright if assigned (section 12), and have sole, exclusive and perpetual ownership to the songs (section 14) (i.e. forever). Former employees don't come back to claim any rights to the work they did for a former employer (unless it was stimulated in contract)... I don't see how she can still own the songs (and all performances, including music videos) she assigned to somebody. Are we reading the same contract? |
MrBrownJay1:No worries. However, how is an artist supposed to pay her 50%? In almost all cases I know of, it's from revenues. Unless Cynthia has some couple of million someplace and she can write a check, the expectation is that her debt payment will come from the commercial exploitation of the song/video. The terms of the payment was actually stipulated in Section 3. COSTS, and I quote the end: "As a new artist with no financial backing, NorthSide music would put up 100 percent and deduct the 50 percent expense from Gross Profit received from artist earning." The way I understand that is: until her debt is paid up, every Naira of profit that would have gone to the Artist, goes to the label. |
MrBrownJay1:Yes. He paid for the video. 100%. I understand that. Cynthia did not write a single check for any of the videos (though she agreed to pay her 50% share at a later date, from the proceeds of future sales). On the second point I must disagree: according to the contract (that Cynthia signed), he has all rights to do so: Section 9. ASSIGNMENT OF EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS BY ARTIST. Upon the timely occurrence and performance of all material events and obligations required to produce the recording, Artist shall assign to the Company all of his/her rights, title, and interest in and to the following property, for distribution and commercial exploitation worldwide: a. The Songs, b. Artist's performance of the Songs contained in the Recording, c. The Title of the Recording. In other words, all rights have been assigned by Cynthia to Jude: songs, performances, videos, title, everything related to that song. He owns it, and has the legal right to protect his property. In summary: - the song/video is assigned to Jude, and he owns it 100%. - they shared the cost of production 50%; he paid for her half and she was to pay him back - furthermore they split half the proceeds going forward. Cynthia has not demonstrated that - with his actions - Jude broke the terms of their contract. She has no claims of ownership to any of the songs/videos/lyrics/promotion/vevo. She assigned those rights to him with her signature. |
MrBrownJay1:I don't think the label claimed she owed them 100% of the cost. Jude's claim is "we paid 100% of the cost". This is an accurate statement. According to the contract, and my understanding, she now owes them her 50%. After that is collected, they can go ahead and split any residual profits 50%. |
purplecoco:Abeg help me tell him. It's just a job, there are thousands of pretty flight attendants in the air every day. |
Heh... there are probably millions of men who think a flight attendant is special and will even remember them. Please next time, do not tell flight attendant the same thing she hears from customers every damn day. Please, for manhood's sake. Consider, for all your fawning, there is a guy someplace who's tired of her shit - and for that matter, you would too, coming here to complain about how she's always traveling and never has time for you. ![]() |
