This is what we call a broken record: the same tune over and over again, with no progress. ![]() |
issy1500:... am sure that's exactly what the first human to catch Coronavirus thought too when he/she brought that infected animal home from the market in Wuhan. |
OP, you should be asking, "what potential viruses does this wild animal harbor, and how can I prevent them from mutating for human hosts such as myself?" In spite of the overwhelming body of evidence that mucking around with wild animals is what brought us Ebola and Coronavirus, you still want to be catching (and eating) wild animals? Remember, if it doesn't affect oyinbo, they won't work on vaccine to save our asses, and our national hospital is a mere clinic without so much as panadol. |
OK, who is/was in PDP, and who is/was in APC? Are they not the same carpet-crossing thieves? It's one thing to have an "opposition" party because of principles, and it's quite another to have a bunch of noise-making opportunists who are quick to point fingers just because they're not the one sharing cake this year. |
Uh oh... not my fav Kwara... topstone4:Indeed it is. And you know what I find most amazing: nobody will remember the deceit. They will swallow the next garbage without thinking about the results from last time... As an example, none of our "prophets" is being castigated for getting their April 27 prophesy wrong... TB Joshua for one is still misleading himself and others. |
Jack500:Yes and no. You have to have Government approval to broadcast on any band. You can't transmit 5G signals - even for test - without a government's prior approval. It's also highly unlikely that MTN would choose a band of frequencies not assigned to them by a government authority: not only do you choose the frequency range, you instruct your towers to tune in to certain bands. |
Are we sure there was anything in the warehouse in the first place? Abi officials shared the money already? After all, this is Nigeria. |
Though commendable that the police and public reacted like this, I'm not entirely sure that the following is in the public interest right now: (a) arresting them, potentially exposing police officers to the virus, if if by chance a guest brought it from UK (b) they should got to 10 important public places, with people gathered, to serve out community service (c) is it true there were up to 100 people in the court room? If so, then sorry is their name (d) see all those people going up the stairs in the previous video? NO social distancing... na wah I know they have to be seen to be doing something, but damn... they might spread the very thing they want to contain |
harjay1986:There is also far more economic activity, wealth, and people traveling internationally through Lagos and Abuja. It makes sense that large economic/political hubs will have more people who are able to travel internationally (and contract coronavirus). It also makes sense that the latest technologies will be deployed in those hubs before anywhere else. People should also say that there's a correlation between Coro and the higher number of ATMS in Lagos and Abuja per capita. |
Sigh... I'm late to the party but I just want to add my own and shake my head... Coronavirus is a virus... 5G is electromagnetic radiation. One is a mutation of the influenza-family of viruses that is currently deadly, since humans have not had a chance to develop antibodies. The other (like any other electromagnetic radiation at sufficiently high power and at the right frequencies) cause cancer and other tissue/organ damage over time. I don't understand why people don't see the basic difference between the two and are quick to jump on nonsense conspiracy theories. If this was in 1950s, we might see some idiot equating malaria with FM radio signals: no correlation whatsoever. |
I'm going to have to disagree... What is there that is scaring people like Reno? OK pimples and blemishes... nothing that cannot be cured with the right soaps and shear butter. Her forehead, nose, lips, eyes, are all the same. If you're the type that's fooled by lashes and wigs, and some pancake, well, sorry. |
Only time when we complain is when money is not flowing to our pockets. If those making noise were benefiting, would they claim "corruption and clannish behavior"? Abeg let me hear word. |
horlarlorwor:There has always been data about recovered patients world wide. Here is a summary: Active cases: Mild cases: 736,000 (95%) Critical condition: 39,000 (5%) Closed cases: Recovered: 224,000 (80%) Deaths: 56,000 (20%) https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ |
Richdad50:You sure? Because come 2023 all past sins will be forgiven as this same poor usher in another set of useless leaders. |
I usually take time to read long stories, but this one was so boring, I stopped after two paragraphs. TLDR... as Dr. Enahire dey fear to name names, speculation continues unabated. |
Say what??!?! When will the death rate peak and start decreasing? As long as we keep the stay-at-home order, we should avoid this kind of fate. Please people, no be by force you have to go out and buy fresh vegetables, rice, or bread. Eating garri and beans for a week is OK. Boring, yes, but might save your life. |
Victorclean1:Correct, you head dey dere. Every girl has her fist choice, and doesn't play too hard if there is good competition from other girls. So OP, the best advice I can give you is: be the type of guy most girls want to bang. |
chigoizie7:Well said my guy... after all the shakara, toto na toto. What makes a relationship fun is that the girl has a good attitude, is kind from her heart, has a sense of humor, is intelligent, and has ambition. A woman who knows something about the world (not just hair, twerk, and garri) |
Many fishes in the sea... Playing hard to get does not mean the relationship would be good, nor does it mean the relationship would be bad. The expression itself "playing hard to get" suggests pretense and that you're not really getting to know the real person. Girls often think (and society-at-large concurs) that it's better not be seen as "easy", but if you both are sincere, then there's no need for pretense. My suggestion is focus your energies and attention elsewhere, on people and things that make you happy without all the games. For the guys reading this: how many times have you tried to woo a girl, she overdoes her playing hard, you shift your attention, then she starts trying to woo you? Was calling this one girl on a regular basis, then she gave me the "knocking on my door, but I'm not sure if I should let you in" story. I said good night and never called or whatsapped again. Guess who's blowing up my phone, except this time I'm not pretending - I'm genuinely no longer interested. |
Faber:Why would you say this? It wasn't too long ago Europe and USA were saying the same things in January... humility abeg. But didn't you see this? https://www.nairaland.com/5768445/pictures-aba-after-lockdown-today |
Not a very useful statistic. If these men have partners, those partners are likely now infected. |
So what did they protest for? Management is not telling us the whole story. Tune in next week and find out that they didn't provide the equipment. |
This is actually worse. Instead of having a regular flow of customers all day, there will now be a higher concentration of people in the markets in those 4 hours, all standing close, with people jostling each other, making the disease easier to spread. Then the power-drunk task force will be collecting cash for "facilitating your position on the queue", that is if they don't interact with flogging. This is a tough problem... if you don't allow people to shop, they die of hunger... allow them, the die from disease. |
olumide4christ:It's one thing to not have enough, yet one can instruct manufacturers to make more because they have the infrastructure, know how, and raw materials. To wit: "US manufacturers answer General Motors' call for ventilator components amid coronavirus crisis" https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/01/coronavirus-update-us-manufacturers-answer-gms-call-for-ventilator-parts.html It's another thing entirely when we have no infrastructure to make any at all because we'd rather floss in expensive cars, donate to buy pastors' jets, and pray that "God will protect us". Prayers to God is not what makes ventilators that help people breathe when their lungs are choked with fluid. |
msmon:Wait, olosho is now legal? ![]() But good of them to suspend operations in the interest of everybody's health. When this is all over, there will be so much clapping you'd think we were in church ![]() |
Better... as we're all finding out, health equipment is far more useful than prayers and prophesies. ![]() I wish we as a country would spend more time and energy on making equipment. If the countries that made these equipment instead built churches and sowed seeds, we'd all be doomed. |
Who would go and stock perishables? It's like they dodn't understand this country of ours. I can understand where she's coming from, but the solution is not to stock food you need light for. Yam, palm oil, garri, egusi, dried fish, crayfish and salt. Add add dried onion, dried bitter leaf, dried ugu, tinned tomato, elubo, kuli kuli. Simple, relatively cheap, and nutritious. I just don't understand how constant light is still a problem for our country in 2020. This is pathetic. |
Babatunde40:Not we. The British Crown. They kept more accurate records in 1918 (with paper) than we do in 2020 (with computers). Which is really really sad. Granted the 500,000 number is a projection. |
AdmiralDru:Well, I've always maintained that it's a theory (i.e. a plausible explanation, with some observable evidence to back it up, though it's not a universally-accepted fact) - and have been aware of some of the arguments for and against it. For instance, the entropy criticism is quite the paradox isn't it: if nature tends towards entropy, why are there stars (which is essentially matter gathering and becoming "more organized" ). The reason: gravity, an incredible force that acts over infinite distance, and like electromagnetism, travels at the speed of light (we used to think gravity was instantaneous, but it was theorized it wasn't, and now there are experiments that suggest it travels through space before its effect is felt, like electromagnetism. Good discussions mate... thanks for remaining civil ![]() |
AdmiralDru:I can't make a distinction between "regular science research" and "space science" since it's all based on scientific principles. I mean, if somebody told you that we could use gravity assist to swing around planets and fling probes out of the solar system, what would you have called that? Conjecture? Bogus? Would you have dismissed the early theories about nuclear fusion in stars? We can say with certainty that there are billions and billions of stars because: we put a telescope on many of the points of light, and there's a shit ton of them. And some of them appear to have a shit ton points of light in them. This is directly observable. We also theorize that since there's so much "mass", they must collate into stars, and there's a crap ton of mass/gas, hence they're must be tons of stars. There are nebulae, entire light-centuries across, where new stars are born. We're sure about the number of planets in our system because we've looked. Using our understanding of gravity (e.g. that the Sun itself is perturbed ever-so-slightly by the orbiting planets based on their mass and distance), we can be certain that we have 8 planets, and a bunch of planetoids (Pluto got demoted). I don't think there are genuinely bogus claims... there are best guesses and what ifs scenarios. Give me an example of a bogus claim, and I'll see if we can walk through and debunk it (or accept that's plausible). On the flip side, I am conjecturing (i.e. not certain), about the possibility of life elsewhere because if you consider our definition of life (which includes plants, bacteria, and to some extent viruses and self-replicating proteins)... there's no reason the same processes that obtain on Earth cannot obtain elsewhere. Our discovery and understanding of electromagnetics (including microwaves) led us to discover the cosmic microwave background and redshift... which led credence to the Big Bang Theory (I keep using the word theory because it's our attempt at explaining). I'm open to other explanations, but this is so far the most credible one. Before being informed otherwise, theists were certain there was only one planet (which was flat), only one star, and that humans were special. Going further, how can they be so certain that God didn't create life on many planets? Perhaps as insurance in case a few planets got wiped out by asteroids or a supernova? (allow me a little creative license). Or how can they be so certain that the only "created in his image" is the humanoid form? For as long as people have been around, we've used the lack of evidence as proof, when in actuality, we don't know. It could well be that there is a God, and all the religions in the world were right, but interpreted their understanding differently. We don't know. |
AdmiralDru:I don't know that I would call it pure nonsense... I mean, theories about the Big Bang are why you can microwave your food and get accurate GPS from objects orbiting fast enough that their local clocks are slower than the ones on Earth (time dilation). We don't fully understand life or its origins, but you only need to look at the evidence that suggest the theories have merit. To discount a theory - an attempt at understanding - because it cannot replicate life (or nuclear fusion) is not very useful. Life existed for billions of years before humans came on the scene. The theories and evidence for it are explained by the same type of unencumbered thinking that brought you vaccines, X-rays, and computer networks. I wouldn't be so quick to discount their ideas about life's origins. What's amazing to me personally is that if you broke a person down to their constituent parts, you'd find elements. So humans are basically one set of elements theorizing about elements? Where does the soul come from? We don't know. Does a dog have a soul? Does a bird? How about an ant? The chauvinist human response is "of course not", but we don't really know. How does a dog have a concept of self, same as a human? We don't know. Imagine if you lived at a time before the indoctrination of Christianity... would you be using the Yoruba pantheon (or Igbo, or Fulani before Islam) to disprove theories? It is unsurprising that humans would give themselves a special role in the Universe - conveniently ordained by their invention of an omnipotent omniscient super being, whatever the pantheon/religion of the century. Also consider: there are billions and billions of stars, and it's highly likely in my estimation that some harbor life (either in the past, currently, or will in the distant future). Would each life-bearing planet have its own God? What about the ones where our level of intelligence has yet to surface? Or the ones with creatures 1 million years ahead of us on the intelligence spectrum? Again, if theists can accept the idea of a sentient entity always existing - the source of all creation, they should not have any trouble accepting the idea of a singularity event... the source of all creation. They are both theories. |
AdmiralDru:You're asking me the same question that theists (i.e. those who believe in God) have never been able to answer: "where did God come from"? Their answer is the enigmatic - but quite useless - "God has always existed". I submit to you the same: "nature has always existed, and the current Universe via the Big Bang is one manifestation of it". Nobody knows; there are theories (some in the form of faith and religion, some are being refined over time*). But all of them are Man's attempt at understanding existence. Some of my favorite theories over time - the world is flat and moon and stars hang from the sky like tiny lantern. Actually they are all round, held together by gravity; some are unimaginably large they ignite, and their light could take decades to get here. - thunder is caused by some celestial being banging a hammer. Actually, electrical charge imbalance causes electrons to race to the ground, heating up the air as they go; the sound we hear is essentially popping air molecules. - children who die and come back again are possessed. Actually, parents repeatedly produce offspring with the same genetic issues that cause early death (e.g. sickle cell anemia or similar) who bear a striking resemblance to the siblings who died. |
