Let's be fair: citizens of ECOWAS countries don't need visas to move. So this announcement, and the angry reaction, are redundant. 2nd, it's up to a country to decide what you need to cross their borders. Until 2009, you could go between US and Canada without even a passport (a state-issued ID used to be sufficient). https://www.peacebridge.com/index.php/commercial-vehicles/id-requirements How many Nigerians who have gone into Benin, Niger, Chad, Cameroun have used passports, talk less of visa? |
IgbosforTrumpUS:At first I was wondering what the point of your post was, then I see it's a "scratch my back, I scratch yours kind of thing". USA needs much more than audio support... it talks about ideology when the real koko is money. When it comes down to it, the revenues of US companies in Nigeria far exceeds anything Biafra can offer in the short term. And we know US is not going to let its revenues drop even 5% for some ideology in a foreign land. |
Abegi oh!!! No be we kill am oh! Why is anybody protesting in Nigeria? What can we do? It's not as if we can go and advice Trump. This is how innocents will be attacked and killed over something they had no hand in. |
ehmmy11:Yep, I was thinking that, don't know why I wrote muscle. ![]() |
Jeremih1:If there was, you would know by now. Apart from surgery, I can't believe there's anything that can enlarge that muscle. It doesn't grow by exercise, and it doesn't accumulate fat (like our bellies) |
Are you actually married, or single? Please enter as your current legal status... they don't like any hint of wuru wuru for that side (it affects things like taxes, deductions, and benefits). Or are you thinking of whether to get married before moving? I'd suggest get married, because it will be easier later to have your wife join. This one too can be hit or miss... many reports of Nigerian wives becoming monsters. (I'm just relaying reports, don't shoot the messenger) If you're moving temporarily, like chigoizie7 seems to imply, hustle, make money, spend as little as you can so you can invest the bulk back home. Really, be focused for 5 solid years, don't start leasing/financing fancy cars and renting expensive apartments because you have money. You can build several duplexes that will replace the salary you got in US, if you're wise. A family in US is quite expensive to maintain, but your dollars would go very far to take care of them if they remain in Nigeria. Immigrant families also have it very tough for 5-10 years before things start to blend. |

philip0906:The dip in 2018, absolutely, I agree we can attribute it to upsurge to other countries. The flatline in growth, in 2015, coincides with the recession - especially since there was no policy change by the US until 2018. |
philip0906:It's true, you're right. I edited my comment earlier to reflect that since the US is less welcoming, Nigerians are going elsewhere. But that change in slope in 2015 says a lot about the recession in our economy, than about Trump's policies. Both are working in tandem, it would appear; see the graph from my original comment. Also painful to see: we basically gave the US economy $514 million (half a billion dollars). If only we could improve our schools so the money circulates here. ![]() |
I couldn't help but notice: After a sustained period of growth between 2011 and 2015, the number of Nigerian visitors to the US started to plateau in 2016 until the big drop-off last year. The growth in visitors slowed with recession after Buhari in 2015, then plateaued in 2016, before dropping. Trump didn't become president until January 2017, so how else would you explain the extreme change from growing, to the sudden stop in growth in 2015? Buhari's recession. Trump's policies and attitude also made things worse, as Nigerians started going to other countries, but I imagine the total number of Nigerians going abroad is probably not changed, just that US is less welcoming. This is from my own analysis of the data.

back2sender:That's the role of government, isn't it? They have increased their efforts to collect taxes, and they have the means to. And as you say there is an increase in going after tax defaulters in recent years. However, if government (federal, state, or local) fails in its job to collect taxes, and subsequently fails in its duty to provide services, why blame the rich who don't (and are not supposed to) do government's job? But really, let's not start arguing this early. I admire the guy, and if he wanted, yes, he could provide electricity to neighbors. We don't know what he does for charity, but some people do charitable works in their communities. |
back2sender:My friend please sit down... do the rich in VGC and other parts of Lekki come together and fix the light for the poor around them? Kano nko? Kebbi nko? The rich are paying a lot of tax (at least so government claims, with all the increase in revenue collection from income, VAT, even transfers). The rich also employ people (drivers, washers, secretaries, guards, personal assistants, not to mention those they employed in the actual industry/factory/studio). Let the government do what the rich have paid tax for. Let the poor masses (who are of a majority) vote for the people who would give them these services. |
GOFRONT:Abeg, I'd rather have the beauty, enjoy life, and then die. The alternative is suffering, and then die anyway. But anyone notice most of the windows we see have no burglary proof? I'm sure there's security and guards, but I'm happy to see the windows without that eyesore. |
Instead of bloggers planning how they can make it in life so they can afford to give somebody a lift in private jet, they are here snooping through Instagram. |
UnclePANSI:Agreed. Not that somebody will randomly get bill for 15k when I hardly see light (I'm not at home during the day, and there's no light when I get home). |
Funny enough, Jesus would probably be the first in the bar... not that he's going to get drunk, but he would be merry with his friends. |
But uncle, I thought they raise minimum wage? Ah I see, give with one hand and take with the other. ![]() |
The unfortunate truth is PDP has nothing to offer that's any better. With all the carpet crossing, can anyone really say that PDP and APC are different parties? Even this post from PDP is an uninspiring as Buhari's speech. Just political posturing to gain few cheap points, but with no real concern for the country - just for the fact they are in the opposition. For all we know, this Kola fellow may be a spokesman for APC next month. |
The same old tired arguments. Pre-2014 it was APC shouting this script. Now it's PDP. |
Why is the buyer aggrieved and disappointed? He paid 17/300 (5.67%) of price, and got 5.67% performance. ![]() I'd even say he got a bargain, because the battery, screen and cpu are working. Some people, na yesterday's fufu dem collect... not even worth #100naira at Iya Basira. What else do you want for 5.67%? ![]() But bros, the phone no even get logo for back. How come? |
Ewoooo Ehen, how much is visa to Cape Verde? I'm asking for a friend. *** In fact, I just searched (for my friend of course): "Cape Verde tourist visa is not required for citizens of Nigeria for a stay up to 90 days." |
guru90:Pollute the air they breathe and ruin the roads (don't forget tar is soft when heated, which is how they pour it in the first place); then they complain about bad health and bad roads in the new year? The main cause of emphysema is long-term exposure to airborne irritants, e.g. chemical fumes and dust, which is plentiful in dry season. |
Kwanza:Charged to court for doing the same thing senators and reps are doing on a regular basis? The same people who brought Sharia into being? The same hisbah officials and police that will happily escort and guard a governor during his trysts? And sheepishly look the other way when asked to bring girls or drop them off? |
ExAngel007:For me, I never argue. I've raised my voice with a woman only once in my adult life. Sometimes women just want to vent frustrations but there's no real meat to the argument, if she took time to really evaluate her position. So no need for me to join voices, I just be mute and nod my head, and look for the real reason. I don't even try to prove my point until much later. "Na pikin she be" for my mind. It's a difficult question: what are you arguing about in the first place? Is it a simple disagreement over something minor? Agree. Did the guy fvck up? Apologize. Is it something fundamental and dear to you? If you can let it go, agree. If not, try to talk to her calmly later on. If she remains obstinate, she's welcome to leave. Have you seen women living together? One day all is well, next day na fight or silent treatment. Then they're friends again by weekend. And what were the fights about... mostly bullshit of no consequence. Sometimes though, there are women who are just argumentative for the sake of it... and the only way you can end it is just walk away - literally and figuratively. |
Mightyhaiz:OK, so one saves that money for only 3-5 years... the money saved will at least reach lintel+plastering. Point is, so many of us have the means if we are just patient and save wisely, instead of being so quick to pop and jaiye. But that's just me oh... One of my very good friends saved and saved for 4 years and now has a wonderful 6-bedroom duplex in Abuja. From his salary, and a few farm investments. No yahoo. |
People... instead of going to club to spend 50k on André every weekend, save it and build house. |
DenreleDave:Why do people like saying this? Whether rich or poor we will all enter ground. Why not work hard and enjoy the life you have to the fullest while you have it? Also wealthy people spread the wealth: people are employed to create and maintain the goods and services that wealthy people consume. |
Omo who dey palash dis geh sef? Overfine dey worry am. ![]() It's these type of women I dey find, so we can build together, not those hungry destiny-destroyers ![]() |
For our estate, transformer has been out of action for nearly 5 months... we don contribute money but till today, no light. As for me personally, I've been enjoying uninterrupted solar power for years now. It's not a big system, but enough so I can see at night, charge my devices, and pump water. |
As my people say, he who fetches ant-infested firewood should not complain if he is visited by lizards... At least some people protested and went to court for his matter, so he cannot say nobody cares. ![]() Nevertheless: Dem no dey tell person... jara jara You go learn your own lesson... jara jara If you no know yourself you go lost oh... jara jara Omo nobody holy, no apostle.... jara jara... |
This is wonderful. I really like these house gifts. From governors, representatives, comedians, companies, people are donating here and there. ![]() I also like these small, low-cost bungalows... I wonder if Spyder880 has been contracted to work on any of them. If not, I pray in 2020, that one state government will just say: "Spyder, please build 500 of these units for us." Amen. |
IgboSomalia:Ol boy sofry sofry na... you wan make e cry? Chai!!! you too get mouth. I like this yab die. ![]() |
