Live with me? No thank you. 2 weeks visit max.

Most annoying are the brothers: they want meals specially cooked for them, so my wife will cook 2x, finish your fuel, demand keys to the car, start doing things around the house without permission like it's their place.

Erm... I think it's everyone's business to decide whether it's OK to inflict pain on a child for some reason.
Permit me some examples:

Some individuals pointed out that painfully scarring a child's face with identification marks was not the best thing. Most people thought it was OK at some point in the past, but it's people like the OP who can cause change. Same with twins being left to die in the forest.

As society we still cause boys pain when we circumcise... but society feels the benefits (easier cleaning, apart from the religious reasons) still outweighs the temporary discomfort that most boys don't even remember. However, female genital mutilation is being seen as a bad thing (which I agree).

People used to think nothing of beating a child with plank because of "spare the rod, spoil the child...", yet we are gradually understanding that there are better ways to discipline a child, and the only thing you teach a child by beating is that violence is an OK way to solve problems.

I'm reaching, and going to extremes to prove a point, but please don't think I'm equating facial scarification with braiding hair in terms of permanence, damage, pain, etc, or equating death of twins with circumcision. Just don't lose my message that it's the voice of people like OP that can cause people to rethink why we do things, and change if we feel that the ends do not justify the means.

With her natural hair, well-oiled, combed and packed nicely into buns or tails, she'll still be the beautiful princess you gave birth to
Fully agree with your post. However, even these buns will need daily combing... which isn't exactly pain-free. Better than the headache-inducing braids, etc. but ideally short cut would be best, then only daily ude and a small comb needed.
Politics › Re: Devaluation, Subsidy Removal Among Biggest Predictions For Nigeria In 2020 by nextstep(m): 7:47pm On Dec 23, 2019
Drkingjames:
I don't think devaluation is a move in the right direction
I would agree.... devaluation (or undervaluation) helps countries that export value-added products (e.g. manufactured goods). However price of oil (which is the largest commodity we use to obtain dollars) will not change based on our Naira, yet we will need more Naira to pay for imports.

Because imports become expensive, locally produced goods will also become more expensive: even a toothpick seller will have to increase their prices so they can in turn pay for (imported) tshirts (a contrived example, but not too far off).

Devaluation has not once helped the Nigerian economy, in my opinion.

What individuals should do is save as much as they can, ideally into dollar accounts to hedge against devaluation and inflation. Spend as little on extravagant expenses this season.
Celebrities › Re: Naira Marley: A True Reflection Of Large Chunk Of Nigeria Youths - Peter Omoniyi by nextstep(m): 7:40pm On Dec 23, 2019
Leaders who don't provide good schools, good hospitals, good roads, and instead steal all the money... are they the ones who should be complaining about the youths that they raised?

But seriously, every generation since Plato has complained about the deterioration of morals in the youths.
Imagine what Nigerian parents were saying about those 1960's highlife kids who just want to dance and drink and hang out in music joints. Then another generation complained about the kids of the disco 70's who just wanted to dance and smoke. Then they complained about those kids in 80's who just want to breakdance and wear jerry curls. Now those parents who danced and smoked in 60's 70's 80's are complaining about kids doing the very same thing in 2010's.

And I won't be surprised to read that Naira Marley himself complains about "kids these days" in 2040's.

Not in the same way, but we have seen leaders removed when their time was up (perhaps unconstitutionally):
our coups, stopping third-term agenda (which was NASS asserting itself during OBJ), Mugabe.

Funny in Nigeria, we've not had a leader serve more than 8 years, or two 4-year terms. (Gowon almost clocked 9 years, but didn't reach it)

Politics › Re: We Must Tax The Rich Mercilessly – Aregbesola by nextstep(m): 10:55pm On Dec 17, 2019
I've never seen a poor person build factories with their own money. This is done by people with surplus money (e.g. investors) in hope of generating more wealth over time.
Overtax the wealthy, and all you'll do is encourage them to hide and move more of their wealth abroad.
The tax revenue will be badly spent - given government's precedent, and the people will only get inefficient state-run enterprises.
Romance › Re: He Wants To Propose To Her Before Traveling Abroad, Please Advise. by nextstep(m): 10:35pm On Dec 17, 2019
Guy, it's over with her. Face your lane and find babe in the abroad. There are idiots for sure, but there are also gems.

Spiritfun:
I LOVE THIS GIRL and I'm certain that will make a good wife for me.
Hah hah hah... so says every Nigerian man who has lived to regret it. By the way, I can bet you are not her first choice based on her initial rejection of you and what I'm reading... she might still be holding out for that other guy...

If you bring her over with your funds, you enter one chance, as many many Nigerian men can attest when they took girlfriend-who-became wife abroad. So, since I see this relationship quitting in 1 or two years, might as well cut it now so you both don't waste your valuable time.

Why postpone the inevitable? Konji will catch you, it will catch her too. You will call, she's asleep. She will call, you're at work. You will call, she's not picking... and so on. After 2-3 months the frequency of your calls will reduce and the majority of your conversation will be about how you miss each other, and how life sucks. Meanwhile several ebonies, snowflakes, and mulans will be eyeing you and you will be eyeing them too. Then you and your girlfriend will enter the "pretend I'm not cheating phase", which might lead to fight every call, and mistrust.

Congrats! Go and face your new life in Canada.

The warning signs are there, very clear. You've asked for advice, and here it is:

Cut him out of your life permanently. Now. People don't change.

dannyla:
- During the date I noticed he has a very hot and quick temper
- I noticed that whenever I drop my phone, he goes through it.
- He gave me several heavy knocks on my head and I developed a headache
- He came down too and gave me the insult of my life in full public view
All other excuses, pleas, apologies are irrelevant. Don't be top story on the nairaland news about some wife in emergency room, or worse.

Here is a question

For one to do what is right in all things at all times, I mean even in an ever changing world with different eras and cultures, mustn't one first know what to do that is right? You then said always.

Is there any who knows what to do always?
The rule is quite simple: love others as yourself. Just following that alone will lead you down the right path, irrespective of religion or era or culture. No need to clutter with all kinds of derivative rules and formulas.
Christianity Etc › Re: How Do We Identify A Righteous Person? by nextstep(m): 2:28pm On Dec 15, 2019
You can't.

You shouldn't: righteousness is a thing between the person and his God.

One of your duties as a Christian is to make sure you always give your tithes and God will bless you abundantly (Read Malachi 3:10) How the money is being used by the Church should not be your concern. BTW it is good that you give your tithes in the church that spiritually nourishes you...not just any random Penterascal church which have no business propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Agreed. I think you'll recall Jesus was very much against foolishness. Whether it was the parables of talents, the builders, the 10 virgins, speck and log, and many others.

If you continue to give your tithes to corrupt pastors... you are naught but foolish.

Kehni:
What's your point bro...all the offence ur saying is between human....not cows bro
So we only shake our heads when an okada driver is killed over 100 Naira bribe (because it's between humans), but get outraged when a person is killed over a cow (which is arguably more valuable that 100 Naira)? Please let's be consistent in our outrage.

Phone belongs to somebody. Steal it: jail.
Cow belongs to somebody. Steal it (or kill it): jail.
Money in bank belongs to somebody. Steal it: jail.
Abuse somebody in power or with leg: jail.
Even scratching a big man's car can land you in jail.
That's my point.

I'm from SS, so don't think I'm defending cow's rights over humans. My point is FFK's post is unnecessarily inflammatory.
Why foment tension on top cow when the result of damaging/stealing/killing another's property is often jail (or even death) in this Nigeria?

How about those who scammed people out of only 30k, don't they get jail time? Those who lose their lives over 100 Naira bribe nko? And the justice system looks the other way. Why making all this noise ontop cow? Abeg FFK, go and rest. It's not everything you will be alarming the populace for.
