olawale005:You are right, just checked now and nothing. Called their customer service line and they told me to check again in the evening. We'd wait I guess.... |
adexsimply:Try Marie Stopes International and DKT International, they offer a wide range of contraceptive services. |
We should also look at the socio cultural factors that encourage people to have more kids that they can cater for. According to the NDHS 2013, over 90% of men and over 80% of women respectively are aware of at least one family planning method, however, in a twist just about 15% use a contraceptive method. This shows a huge disconnect between knowledge and uptake of this service. So what are those factors that make men and women not to use contractive stuffs despite being aware of them, socio cultural belief, access to services, availability of services ? I don't believe it is religious because taking a look at some other equally religious countries like Egypt, Arab countries, they have a far less total fertility rate than Nigeria which is estimated at about 5.6 children per woman and even as high as 8 per woman when disaggregated by states. I also believe that a high level of very younger girls getting married has contributed to this population explosion. We currently have a population of over 180 million and with a current growth rate of about 2.6% , we need to act and fast otherwise we would have a huge demographic disaster in our hands! |
They couldn't even spell 'Members' correctly. 'Memebers indeed!! |
MTN be like 'Arsenal fans should send 'STOP' to '59001' to stop Bayern Munich from scoring more goals'... |
@ Chief Sweetus, It's really good to hear from you, just recently a friend who also is a nairalander and myself wondered where you were- good to know that you are fine. Your acts of kindness is as touching as it is really inspiring -really heart warming to know that in the midst of this whole madness individuals with milk of human kindness still exist. About Musa, while waiting, hopefully, for the social welfare unit of Lagos state, can inquiries also be made about NGOS that can take care of him. The Social Welfare unit even if on their own can't do much, they can certainly recommend NGOs that can take in Musa. The things we take for granted though......... |
glossyfinger:Your last point is also a great contributor to the high Maternal mortality we have here in Nigeria. A project I once worked in recognised this and went ahead to sensitize leaders of Religious institutions on the dangers inherent in this act. Also women were sensitized on some of the danger signs of pregnancy and to seek medicare from skilled birth attendants urgently. In some communities in the North and Enugu state, the issue of permission by mothers in law/husband also was a factor whereby a woman will be in labour and because these people were not around, she can't be taken to a health facility. To curb these we made advocacy visits to traditional gatekeepers to make a rule/law whereby once a pregnant woman noticed any danger sign of pregnancy she can be rushed to a nearby health facility without waiting for permission (we call this standing permission) Traditional birth attendants also need to know their limits and when to refer to proper health facilities. ANC is very important in a pregnant woman's life and should be encouraged to do this. However, health workers should improve on their interpersonal skills(be more humane) in order not to discourage pregnant women from attending. Above all, massive sensitization/outreaches using multipronged approaches religious gatherings, markets, motor parks, IEC materials, radio announcements, during ANC sessions to let women know about danger signs of pregnancy and the need to go for help (make informed decisions about their health) in the nearest health facility (access) with skilled health workers (quality). God bless our women |
Thanks Fiyah for this amazing piece..... |
Aero, First Nation, now Arik. Isn't it getting interesting? We 'd soon be traveling on horses and donkeys. |
jakiedudu:After reading everything against this scheme and it's un-sustainability, you still want to join? I pray you don't open a thread soon lamenting. |
OBAFEMIawolowo:Wow, good to hear that they are really doing very well. I guess there must be new lecturers now? In our set we had just 5 of them, Prof Ohaeri, then Dr Ijeh, Okafor, Ibeh and later on Yusuf and Ejike. We were less than 50 though in our class. Those guys made us practically cram Principles of Biochemistry text book.... |
OBAFEMIawolowo:Oh well, hope he taught you guys BCM 419. How to appease the gods and our great grandfathers with seamaan's aromatic shnapp, guldermycin. Who knows how Prof. Ohaeri, ijeh, Yusuf, DR Ejike are doing now. Nostaligia......I rep BCM '04 Set, good 'ol days |

Ponponkon:Okay, any timeline in plan? |
Ponponkon:Ponponkon, Please what's the status of the new site for Abia polytechnic. Will this still be built as planned? |
You can imagine the shock....i've. never experienced anything like this before. Why make such decisions on our stuffs without consulting the passengers first, we would have at least made a decision on which of our items to take along. |
Mods, I usually don’t do this but we need to make this go viral so that service providers would seat up-especially airline Operators. We were scheduled for an Aero 11am flight from Lagos to Owerri today, 26th March, 2016. We didn’t leave till 1:15pm (from 11am!!) after the usual nonchalant apologies for the crew of Aero... We got to Owerri and were waiting for our luggage at the baggage claim, after about 45 minutes, some people got their bags and some of us to our shock were told by the Aero Owerri Ground manager Mr Ignatius Omone that the pilot decided to leave some of our bags in Lagos!!! Excuse being that luggage were too much!! Imagine the shock, why weren’t we asked in Lagos so that we can make a decision which bags to take or leave, or if we wanted to check in our luggage. Some of us included a couple and a baby who had a wedding to attend in Awka, no change of clothes even for the baby, some of us don’t stay in Owerri or Imo state. Others don’t have any change of clothes, even underwear… (Affected also included Victor Osuagwu-Nollywood actor). A woman has been on the air for about 72 hours from abroad only to get home and realise that her bags were left in Lagos. Aero are not offering to deliver our bags to our houses, that we should come back to the airport again tomorrow (27th March, 2016), please note that some of us stay outside Imo state, Awka, Umuahia, Aba, Mbaise…please mods do the needful, this impunity must stop!! cc Lalastica, justwise, Ishilove Seun |
extraterra:My brother, I actually feel like weeping. In Trademore Estate, they just flash it for half second like 4 times a day. Fuel, 200/250 per litre at black market as petrol stations won't agree to sell fuel in jerry cans. The worst part is no hope in sight. |
Biko why does Borthwick-Jackson run like that? |
Ponponkon:Wow, good news. It seems Governor Ikpeazu is doing much more than people who aren't privy to such info or resident in Abia know. Information dissemination should also be focused on |
Ponponkon:What's Gov Ikpeazu's plan for Abia state polytechnic.Does he plan to get a permanent site, it's current location doesn't seem to contain them very well and may very well need to be decongested. |
FrontPageLawyer:Hi FPL, Justwise, Oreskid, just another update. Picked up my passport today, visa granted. Many thanks for your support on this |
FrontPageLawyer:Many thanks FPL for your kind assistance all through this period-really appreciated. By way of update, I made the appointment yesterday and paid for the priority service, by today I got the update that UKVI has received my application. Hoping that a favourable decision is made in time for me to travel on Friday. |
FrontPageLawyer:Thanks |
FrontPageLawyer:Thanks |
FrontPageLawyer:Many thanks Frontpagelawyer, well, from what you've said , I'll just keep my fingers crossed. The timing is just not so ideal. Yes, I did fill out the name of the hotel I would be staying in, it's also in Bath. I deduce from your advice that priority service might not be affect anything , needless going that route moreso because of the timing again. Thanks for you best wishes, I'll surely need it. I will give this my best short anyway and be ready for whatever comes out of it not without learning my lessons/gaining experience. |
