brain54: I don’t know if they are cheaper…
But just a few days back I was thinking to myself how scarce they are. I mean I hardly see any these days.
Maybe my location though.
But it’s been a while I saw a Solara…it’s a good car though and at a time used to be my crush! Production ended in 2008 as sales decline that's part of reason For its rarities. |
Car Talk › Re: Why Are Solara Cars Relatively Cheap by nurey(m): 9:38pm On Jul 17, 2023 |
Because it's a 2door coupe or convertible. People rarely buy 2door cars in Nigeria reason it is cheap |

pascal558: Please mod I need some answers about the customs car importation age limit I just read about and how this affects car importation. They say the limit is now 12 years but I still see some news cars from 20 year of manufacture and All of that. How does this work? Does it mean I can't import a car 12 years and above? What if it's a personal car manufactured in 2010 or there about, I need answers please and will be happy if the moderators can help because it's confusing for me how we have some cars over that year here and yet custom says it's a 12 year limit.
Seun, mynd44, marpol OAM4J I need your help
Secondly also saw they will impound vehicles that has their steering on the wrong side that needs conversion. for the first question they still allow cars older than 12years old but the duty on those vehicles are exorbitant meaning if you import a 2013 corolla and the duty is 3.5m, you will pay same 3.5m for any corolla you import before that year (1990 to 2012 corolla duty is still 3.5m) reason why prices of old cars have gone up. Gov did this to phase out old cars from our roads. for the RHD cars, i still see people import it but you cant register a RHD vehicle or drive on our roads, you are supposed to convert it. Failure to convert commands heavy fine from VIO and FRSC if caught. |

Car Talk › Re: What's The Solution To Car Engine Smoking by nurey(m): 2:03pm On Jul 17, 2023 |
Engine smoking is fluid getting to the wrong area. This is due to wear and tear. Remember also that using of wrong fluid will speed up wear and tear.
Solution is to overhaul the engine that depends on what the issue is like 1. Coolant getting into combustion chamber 2. Oil getting into combustion chamber 3. Over dumping of petrol which causes carbon monoxide (extremely black fumes) |

modskiller: Wow.
Yeah P0016 & P0017 codes that won’t go away for the intake and output actuator valve.
The car had an inscription of 0w30/5W20 but seems the previous owner just kept using the normal 20W50.
We change back to the 0W30 when we noticed the sound.
But it still won’t go away and seems it’s now louder that before.
Hope it won’t spoil the engine and what’s the way out sir.
Thank you 🙏 depends on how long the 20w50 oil was used. Those engine parts could already be worn out so switching to recommended oil will only delay the inevitable. What vehicle and year is in question here? |

modskiller: Also please I’d like to ask what causes an engine to make a cranking or rattling noise when you start it in the morning, it starts fine and you’d hear some noise like (krrrrrrrrr) for about about 1-2 seconds and it disappears.
I’ve seen this in Camry engines and 1AR engines too, seems the noise is coming from the ti wing chain side(not sure) but some said it’s cause like is not circulating fast enough when you start the engine. Sounds cannot be diagnosed online. Also rattling sound at startup points to wrong oil weight used for a long time. Scan the vehicle it will throw a code. |
Car Talk › Re: My 2009 Toyota Corolla GearBox Issue by nurey(m): 12:53pm On Jul 12, 2023 |
modskiller: Please I have a vehicle with an issue.
1st the idle can be rough when it’s hot.
2nd the transmission is smooth but when it is about to go into GEAR 3 (when you’re driving slow or below 20-30KMph) it will pause for like 2 seconds then engage, but if you’re going fast or taking off and acceleration climbs highs (even when you’re coming from being stationary 0KM upwards and your making fast) it won’t pause and it will shift smooth.
Please what can be the cause. Nothing is wrong with your transmission |

Can FRSC ask for it ?
Or there’s no such thing anymore ? There is no permit required for factory tint, their is however permit needed for non factory tint except that police no dey disturb some vehicles like Peugeot they would believe you are a uniform personnel. FRSC has no business with tint permit but fear dem pass police or army, dem fit bill you 3k for just one bulb not working |

Spray: I complained of water from my 2009 Toyota Corolla radiator entering my gearbox. I have been able to fixed that, thanks for the heads-up @ id4sho.
You know even before we discharged the water, on my way to mechanic, the gear would neutralise/free itself and picked again.
I complained that to my mechanic, he removed the gear brain box and wash it with petrol and dry it. Put it back and the movement is smooth now.
The only challenge now is experiencing difficulty if I want to reverse or finding it hard to reverse untill I press or fire harder before it picked.
My mechanic said I should exercise patient let the oil circulate.
I don't know how true or reliable that could be When foreign object contaminates the transmission system (water, wrong fluid, metal shavings) you are suppose to do a drain and refill twice or thrice if you can afford it) first drain, drive like 50 to 100km then drain and refill again to allow complete removal of contamination including those hiding in the clutch converter. If after that their is still slip or refusal to enter gear, scan that will enable you plan for next step. The issue with transmission is once technician loosen it, they wont be able to bolt is back to the required torque, also wrong position of valve body components which leads to failure eventually |
