Who else is observing? The Coronavirus pandemic has taken a turn for Africa with some 6 African countries recording new peaks in their reported confirmed cases today alone:

South Africa 660+
Ghana 900+
Benin Rep 100+
Egypt 490+
Sudan 180+
Nigeria 380+

This is happening just as it is equally ravaging South America; just as part of Europe is finding some shaky respite, although Russia and Belarus are right now in the middle of the grueling battle.

New particularly disturbing peaks today are:

Brazil 800+ deaths within 24hrs
Qatar 1,300+ confirmed cases in one day for a country of less than the population one state in Nigeria!

Please those who still doubt the presence of Covid-19 and still conduct themselves carelessly should take to heart what is happening right now in Brazil. At first, their president did everything to deny that Covid-19 is real. With over 10,000 deaths in less than 40 days he has swallowed his pride and utter foolishness. Wise ones do not need to be reduced to such a level just so that they can believe.

The raging tide had better turn away from Africa....................the raining/cold season sits well with this infectious virus.

Previously, over 40% of Nigerians believed the virus is a hoax. A propaganda to embezzle funds.

As i write, the number of those who doubt has risen to 70% in spite of the glaring fact in our faces.

Four factors caused the price hike.

1. Exchange rates: The exchange rate for dollar against naira went up by 25%.

No dollars for phones importers for now. And maybe for a long time.

2. Importation by air was halted: Most phones come through air transportation. And as you know, air travel has been in ban for close to 2 months now.

3. Countries like USA, China and South Korea who manufacture most of the phones we use are also mostly on lock down too. Workers are being downsized, companies running bankrupt, shutting down or relocating.

4. For those sellers who have a few goods remaining, you don't expect them to sell goods they bought when dollar was 365naira. Dollar is pushing 500naira now at the black market. If you dare sell at the old price, you may have to borrow money to complete your capital for that same phone you sold for less.

Except the FG does some serious economic miracle, it will be a dog eat dog in the coming months.

There's a reason why countries maintain embassies in other countries. It is mainly to safeguard the lives and properties of the home state.

The embassies are supposed to take stock of the stranded Nigerians, provide temporary palliatives to them, test them and then assist them to come back to Nigeria.

The only embassy that seem active this period was the Nigerian embassy in China. And that was weeks after the shabby treatment of Nigerians over there became a national embarrassment.

I was also of the opinion that borders and airports should have been closed before we had the Italian case, but with more introspection, I had to concede to the social and economic implications of that.

Look around and sample the opinion of Nigerians who are suffering the lockdown.

Their anger at government, is the same anger you would have seen when the economic and social implications of locking down the borders and airports had revealed itself.

In fact, some would have concluded it wasn't necessary and it was an overkill and government should open up and screen those coming in, so business and society would not be killed before COVID-19 began its own killing,

Ironically, those were the very steps the government took.

In as much as i think people's opinions should drive government policies, it is very wrong for the government to think it has to always go that way in order to be in the good books of the people and critics.

But that wasn't even the case in this one.

The government vehemently rejected the evacuation of some Nigerians in COVID19 crisis area like Wuhan. But months later in another COVID19 crisis area decided to allow a group of people to come in.

And if the economic and social implications were the reasons for delayed border closure, why is it still not being considered?

So is the bolded not a very commendable rejection by the FG, in denying any return of Nigerians from the location of the origins of the disease, knowing the incubation period?

Infact, if they had been brough back from Wuhan specificly, your type would have used that to show how irresponsible the government is.

Even till 2weeks ago, countries were still airlifting their citizens from different parts of the world.

Even the USA allowed people from a cruise ship that was already known to be infected with the disease to fly back to the USA.

The COVID-19 cases that abound in the world outside China are due to many governments not shutting its door on their own citizens who were not confirmed to be sick, but carried the virus.

So Nigeria was not more useless than any of the countries we love to praise.

Besides, would you have wanted to be left in Italy or France or USA if you had only gone there for a conference or holiday, without any means of continued residence in that country?

While you care not about the bigwigs like Atiku's son or Buhari's daughter, or the most senior employee of the Presidency who was out doing his job on behalf of Nigeria, you should worry that many Nigerians needed to return to their homes, families, and jobs at that time.

on that note, the FG of Nigeria did nothing wrong, so stop lying that the country allowed sick patients back into the country.

This move that you commend now, was the same arrangement that had been allowed when the airport was still open, hence all the checks and screening done at the airport then.

Somehow, you slowly managing to make this discuss personal. But it's okay. I expected it.

Now, a lot of Nigerians welcomed the idea of not allowing those Nigerian students in Wuhan come into the country. Their case was only sighted when later, the virus became a pandemic in the UK and USA.. and of worst proportion than that of Wuhan. But the government didn't deem it necessary to shut down our airspace by then until the important people came in.

If other countries are airlifting their citizens up till now, why is Nigeria placing a ban on it? The FG should go ahead and copy those countries if they have the capacity.

And for those who traveled to COVID19 ridden countries like Italy for holidays or conferences, they can should be airlifted back to Nigeria if the FG does not know the use of Nigeria embassy in Italy.

Look, as much as I may not cry if anything happens to them, I don't wish them bad in any form.

My point has be clear from day one. Nigerian students in Wuhan and other places should matter to Nigeria as much as elites children regardless of the job they went to do.

Are you saying all the measures set up at the airports were all for fun if they indeed deliberately allowed sick patients of Nigerian citizenship into the country?

Air borders were supposed to be shut weeks before the government finally did. But for sime reasons, the government decided to be checking for temperature of emigrants only. During that period, a lot of convid19 carriers were allowed in.

But before then, some Nigerian students in Wuhan were denied request to be evacuated from Wuhan to Nigeria for fear of the virus coming into Nigeria.

But when the virus hit UK and USA, exactly the time most countries already shut their borders, some top men decided to delay shutting our airspace until their relations and associates were evacuated to Nigeria. Unfortunately, most of the COVID19 cases we have today were directly as a result of these relatives and associates who were allowed into the country later.

To be honest though, someone with stellar economic credentials and a pragmatic manifesto is Moghalu. I think he should be at the forefront of this discussion.

Moghalu and Durotoye were my 1st and second choices at the 2019 general elections. And this was because there were the best on the table as at then.

But now the doors are open, i wouldn't choose somebody like Moghalu because i feel he lacks the political will to enforce his fantastic economic ideas. Just like Osinbajo, he may do well as a vp or an economic minister, but I'm not sure if he can pull through as an effective president.

GEJ has the economic ideas but lacked the political will.

Buhari has the political will but lacks ideas.

Yaradua had the economic ideas but lacked the political will. Maybe because of his health.

OBJ had the political will. He also had the economic ideas which was badly tainted with selfish interest.

Nigeria needs more of a leader with political will than one with economic ideas if he is willing to surround himself with sound and progressive policy makers.

I was somehow bullied in secondary school. Because of that, I went into martial art and could fight and beat up most people. Fortunately, the martial art taught me how to develop cold feet when my life is not in danger. In other words, a little boy could slap me now and my reaction would be to quickly walk away.

First, a corrupt man will most unlikely pass or make such a law.

Secondly, for the same reason even the crimes that comes with capital punishments in Nigeria are not being executed. No forensic investigation.

Without a forensic investigation, corruption will mar the process and you will end up killing a bunch of innocent people.

Ever wondered why the president and governors never sign for those on deathrow to be executed? Due to no forensic investigations in such cases, nobody wants to kill an 'innocent' man.
