Politics › Re: Oshiomole Vs Airhiavbere: Judgement slated for TODAY by Oahray: 7:46pm On Jan 08, 2013
KnowAll: If it is verified or determined that Oshomolie's has not got a valid educational certificate, but it has been proven that ACN won, won't that translate to or mean that power will now be going to d Deputy Governor since after all Oshomole and his Deputy ran on the same ticket.

Or is it a case of invalid educational certificate automatically nullifies the election entirely. If that were to be d case, it would appear that the judicial process is more or less throwing d baby and bath away in the face of clear and obvious evidence that Oshomolie and ACN won d election since PDP as a Party and d Major in particular are not disputing the election but the educational certificate presented by the Governor.

This is a very tricky one that would set a precedence. huh
Lol. This is politics. Its like chess, letting them eat your pawns while targeting their king.

Airhiavbere and PDP are not interested in nulification of the election results, they lost fair and square, and they know it.

Now look at the bigger picture. If they succeed in establishing Oshiomhole's underqualification:

First, they would have quashed the presidential ambition he may have been nursing. They know he is good with public relations.

Certificate forgery is a criminal offense. He would face punishment if found guilty and it would be an eternal blemish on his name. They could even employ media hype to blow it out of proportion to distabilize ACN.

In essence, that move is revenge served cold while taking a big rival out of the game. Two birds, one stone. Don't blame politics, everyone knows its dirty.

YuzedoII: Haha! You tried. I liked your post! Google is a great friend of ours...! However, have you considered that perhaps i was speaking in a hypothetical context and not conjunctive?? grin

Or the fact that English has almost lost its conjunctive mood? For the sake of our less informed audience however, lets get one fact straight: Both WAS and WERE are CORRECT. One is simply more appropriate in certain situations.

But pray, we must not derail this thread.

Good effort though... I always appreciate a challenge in the Language/Literary department. Well done. cool
Lol. Nice attempt at wriggling your way out.

It is NOT TRUE that both forms are ALWAYS correct. The fact that a form is popular does not make it correct either. Like you subtly admitted, depending on the context, you could be wrong.

The statement is only hypothetical when it is shrouded in uncertainty, in this case her 'single' status. Lets say we are not sure if she is married or not, and there is an actual possibility that the condition (that she is single) is true. On that ground alone would the expression "if she was" be acceptable.

From the info provided by the op, and from the tone of your own statement, you KNOW that she is not single, so your statement is contrafactual and not in anyway hypothetical in context. tongue

Nice conversation anyway.

coogar: sneijder was the best player in 2009/10 season....he won the treble and single-handedly took holland to the final of the world cup. his goals and contribution that season is unparalleled. however, messi would always appeal to the romantics. messi's story is the modern cinderella story. a boy that was told would not make it in football because of his growth hormones and later went on to become planet's best player. his background is much better than ronaldo's - ronaldo is the arrogant twit, he's handsome, makes loads of money - who would vote for such?
I'd overlook your attempt to appeal to emotion, and the statement about Sneijder 'single-handedly' taking Holland to the final. No real football fan who knows football would say that about anybody.
Did you also mention unparalleled goals and contribution that season? He was not even Inter's best player that season.

I have 3 questions for you, don't be afraid to google it and post the answers here.

(1) Who was awarded the best player in the 2009/2010 UEFA Champions League tournament?

(2) Who was awarded the best Serie A player of the 2009/2010 season?

(3) Who won the Golden ball of the 2010 worldcup tournament?

Lol. I bet you think yourself a professor of English. It's an informal forum for me and I do not write with a view to making posts with perfect english.
However, since that is your wish, I would go all formal on you. grin grin grin

How is it you know nothing about 'subjunctives'?
You ought to have written "if she were" instead of "if she was".
As a rule, the subjuctive 'were' is used instead of 'was' after 'if+subject'. The subjunctive doesnt change with singularity or plurality of subject either, thus 'were' is used with every subject ('I', 'you', 'he/she', 'we', 'they').

Denied? Sneijder wasn't even awarded Serie A best player in 2010, are you aware?
Diego Milito bagged both the best foreign player award and the best player award in 2010.

Milito was more instrumental to Inter that season than Sneijder.

In the world cup, Diego Forlan emerged player of the tournament.
So why the noise about Sneijder? He wasnt exceptional.

Do not say things just because others say it. Let facts and stats speak.

Iyfe Namikaze: U must be a fool. have u asked your silly self why canavaro won this same award? He didnt even score up to 10 goals, yet he won it..why? zidane nko? Did he score up to 40 gaols? No! Even ronadinho, figo and baggio.
Am a barca fan , but this award was sentimental and biased. And don't forget those were the time when shevchenko was reigning supreme in goals, but he never won it.
three things:

(1) You are not a Barca fan, stop lying.

(2) Messi was better than Ronaldo in everything, from goals to assists to completed passes.

(3) Ronaldo won the league cos Madrid was better than Barca last season, not because Ronaldo played better or was even as good as Messi.
Madrid had Benzema and Higuain who scored more than 20 goals each, and Ozil whohad the highest assist in Laliga. The league was team success.

Individually, Messi had the better season. The stats confirm this, and the football experts who voted endorsed it.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Lionel Messi Wins Ballon D'or Award by Oahray: 9:21am On Jan 08, 2013
Enoyoh: IN 2010, Wesley Sneijder was the favourite for the award considering his performance, but the blind people who voted gave it to Messi. what are you talking about?
Yeah, the 'blind people' who gave it to Messi happen to be team coaches and journalists, experts who would easily drown you with stats.

Sneijder was in an inter team that performed excellently from attack to defence. Google his stats (passes, assists and whatever else a midfielder is supposed to do) for that season, compare with his team mates both in country and club, and judge for yourself.

If it were solely based on how many trophies you win, Casillas won both spanish league and Euro;
Iniesta won Copa del Rey, Club World Cup and Euro (along with two supercups, spanish and UEFA);
Juan Mata won Champions' league, FA cup and Euro.
Torres won the UCL, FA cup and Euro and even won the golden boot in the Euro.
Let me stop there.

And Ronaldo won just one trophy. Just one!

If it were solely based on trophies won, your Ronaldo would not even appear in the top 3. Keep crying.

Enoyoh: HOW MANY GOALS DID FABIO CANAVARO SCORE THE YEAR HE WON?
Typical Nigerian. We always know how to single out a tiny point from a whole, overflog it while conviniently ignoring the others.

Nowhere in my post shows that I think scoring goals is the sole criteria for the award.

A literate person would see that I was comparing Messi and Ronaldo performance-wise, and talked of their involvement in their teams' goals. They are both attackers, so what's wrong with comparing goals and assists?

IMO, Cannavaro won cos Zidane's headbutt worked against him. Many voters didnt see his act as befitting of someone who was to be the face of football for that year.
That said, you cannot compare Ronaldo with someone like Zidane. Zidane does not have to score to have a great game. Messi too.

Unlike them, goals is all Ronaldo has going for him as per performance. Without scoring in most matches, he looks average at best cos he hardly initiates attacks or sets team mates up for goals. Even in goal scoring, Messi is better.

logica: Lol. Must be him. See name sef: Butcher. You go fear nah! Still na Maradona butcher am. English players (and the EPL) are overhyped.
True that. England with its media. See how they paint their mediocre national team like its world class.

The EPL benefits from the media coverage and hype too. And many of the people arguing here are those who watch EPL cos it is what is easily accessible. Some had not even watched Athletico Madrid play until Falcao destroyed Chelsea in the UEFA supercup.

Let them argue in their ignorance.

elampiro: sleep time.

To me Ronaldo should have been given the award. He won the Laliga, he did well and scored in the classico matches, he played in EURO semis. He did a lot single handedly .
You spoilt it with your last statement. Ozil had Laliga's highest assist last season, who did he assist the most?
RONALDO!

Check facts before spewing sentiments. Its really an insult to Ozil, Di maria, and the other team mates involved in Ronaldo's goals when you say Ronaldo did it single handedly.

Football is a team game and no player wins trophies or even matches single handedly, not even Messi who was involved directly in 54% (73 goals and 29 assists) of Barca's 190 goals.

Go to bed Jemi. The football experts have decided. If EPL is the best for you keep watch EPL and let the Laliga fans watch Laliga.

Arguing on nairaland wouldnt change any name on that list.
Two EPL teams are out of the UCL again after group stage. If the other two gets knocked out in this next round, next year FIFpro list would have no EPL player either and would upset you again.

But then what do we do when the truth becomes a bitter pill?

Lol... Na cos Messi win again or cos of the FIFpro list una start all these league arguments?

EPL is more competitive than La Liga, true, cos the best teams in EPL are not very consistent and are not much better than the average teams. They also benefit from media hype.
La liga has the best legs in the world. #fact

The fact that Barca and Madrid are dominating does not make the other laliga teams trash.
Or else, the fact that Messi has won the FIFA award 4 times in a row means that every other player (including Ronaldo) is trash. No?

Stop the argument. Its pointless.
