TheGoodJoe:When Nigerians had to work hard to produce wealth, Nigeria was very well diversified and a thriving nation. In otherwords I'm saying, the corruption in the country was definitely not as bad as this when the stupendous easy wealth from oil wasnt available. That is the point I'm trying to make. And isnt this the reason why many sharp minds have called for restructuring of the country?... In order to force the different zones to get back to work and stop sitting idly waiting for feeding bottle money from the south south? |
paschu:I expected this to be a common sense issue, I even went ahead to explain in my previous post. But you went ahead to cancel my post and then returned with further meaningless questions. The allure of easy oil wealth forced the corruption and laziness out of Nigerians. Before oil, Nigeria had a thriving diversified economy and no region was parasitic on any other. But all that changed after oil. El Rufai's prayer for oil to dry up was only a figure of speech to lay emphasis on how oil wealth in Nigeria turned out to be a curse instead of a blessing; he wasnt literally asking for oil to dry up. Today, 5 out of the 6 zones in Nigeria are lazy and unproductive parasites to the south-south because of this same feeding bottle economy which Nigeria became because of easy oil wealth. As it stands today, the damage has already been done, oil is still Nigeria's only source of income. So I'm sorry, your question about the uproar due to militants stopping oil production is a very pointless question. |
TheGoodJoe: TheGoodJoe:Of course oil is not the problem, the problem is the combo of easy oil money and a bunch of greedy useless leaders; a horrible combo which forced a once thriving and diversified economy into a comatose mono-economic huge mess. El Rufai saying he prays for oil to dry was obviously a figure of speech; he was only trying to make an emphasis on how bad the easy oil wealth polluted the minds of Nigeria's leaders over the years thereby killing Nigeria's productivity. I'm surprised you couldn't figure that out but rather swallowed his statement literally, I'm sure it's cos you hold a prejudice against the man. |
NothingDoMe:The yawa started long before the 97% statement, so quit trying to use that as a justification. A lot of GEJ supporters were very pissed off and bitter followinv the election results and that bitterness led to many things including the massive folllwership of ipob today. After the election, a lot of Gejites from the SE felt they were betrayed by the SW for supporting a northern candidate over a fellow southerner. Taunting names like 'Hausa slaves' and 'betrayers' are still being freely used today and it was purely out of the disgruntlement from the elections. Save that you 97% excuse for people that were born yestrday. |
TheGoodJoe: TheGoodJoe:Liar or hypocritical deceiver he might be, but that doesnt have any bearing on this issue; he spoke the fact about oil being more of a curse to Nigeria than a blessing which it should have been. Before oil, Nigeria was a thriving diversified economy, but the poor management of the sudden oil wealth over the years turned Nigeria to an intellectual and physically lazy parasitic nation where 5 out of 6 zones are completely unproductive parasites to one single zone which produces oil. Is this not the reason why people are calling for restructurung of the nation today?... So the forces of hunger would reset the brains of the parasitic zones and reignite their productivity?.... Is that not exactly what El Rufai is talking about?... So how can you exactly fault the statement simply because you hold a prejudice against the messanger? |
paschu:What do you understand by the word 'hypocritical'? Could it be that the topic of discussion is beyond your intellectual ability to comprehend? Why dont you ask when in doubt? Nigeria's economy is currently hinged on ONLY OIL. If you stop the oil flowing today, Nigeria's economy dries up, inflation goes up, there's instant hunger and suffering across the land, your mothers, fathers and children go hungry. Nigeria got a taste of that in 2016 when militants brought down Nigeria's oil production by over 50% and till now, we havent completely recovered from it. Even an elementary school child knows this, so how exactly can any adult possibly be asking me why I cried blue murder when militants halted oil production? All of the above horrible things can happen only because Nigeria relies on only one commodity (oil) for its survival. Before oil was discovered, Nigeria's economy was diversified, we had oil palm, cocoa, cotton, groundnut, rubber etc etc. Nigeria had plenty commodities and services which maintained its economy but with the comming of oil, Nigeria and Nigerians became physically and intellectually lazy due to the massive easy money coming from oil; every other means of support for the economy was abandoned. This explains the wisdom behind El Rufai's prayer for oil to dry up so Nigerians can become hardworking again and stop being parasitic. Hope you get the point now? |
Just taking a look at the comments on the first page, it is obvious that prejudice against Rufai has completely twisted the brains of too many people. Rufai has simply stated the gospel truth about how oil wealth has killed the thinking faculty and left Nigeria as a lazy undeveloping nation since 1959. |
tommynico:Jonathan Goodluck is the bone of contention. Yorubas and Igbos have always had a cold war, but the current escalation is just a creation of the 2015 elections. A lot of Igbos who supported GEJ passionately still feel deeply pained over his election loss and they harbour great contempt against Yorubas for daring to choose APC/Buhari over PDP/GEJ. Too bad that a simple election has had this much effect on the psyche of many... |
clevadani:You have said it all! Unfortunately the brains of Nigerians have been configured and conditioned by rogue local leaders to only focus on Abuja. |
Amberon11:Commissioning filling station! ![]() To be honest, Okowa's myriad of problems started from Ibori and proceeded to Uduaghan and it also ends with Ibori. Delta state sadly has No Opposition, reason why the state would keep being in the clutches of Ibori until Delta people decide to 'get sense' for once and stop worshipping the rogue Ibori. |
Na wa! This isnt too good. The IVM truck is just a replica of the other pickup truck. If I have the capacity to produce and modify designs, why not just modify some of the basic designs to make it look unique?... IVM got this one wrong! |
DanXplore:You have a fully funded scholarship which is worth well over N10million; that sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity bro. Besides, you aren't even doing a proper engineering job at the moment, N183k may seem enticing considering the state of things in Nigeria, but the truth is that you deserve better than that sales job. If you were to self-fund your studies, then it may have been a difficult decision, but with a scholarship as powerful as PTDF, quickly dump that sales job and go for your masters (even the £400 monthly allowance from PTDF is more than your current salary) As a PTDF ex-scholar myself, to be able to get the OSS, you must already be a smart guy, and that means you are very likely to succeed afterwards. |
richidinho:Who is they?... EFCC? Did you get that $90billion info from an EFCC or government source or did you just scratch it from one of the usual gutter/beer parlour blogs? |
Lol... Point of correction, recession actually ends when all Nigerians can clutch Hushpuppy verified Gucci bags. |
Balkan:Was Ekwueme the only one arrested?... Buhari locked up every member of Shagari's government and cabinet. The only person who wasnt put in normal prison was the president himself (Shagari) who was shown some respect and put under house arrest. This your comment would have made sense if you claimed that Buhari left northern cabinet members free and arrested only easterners. |
Kamanuozuzu:If in world gatherings, every president voted only for the candidate from his country, then nobody would win the election. Are you sure this is the first time a president is voting a candidate from another country, or is this just another empty blab? |
Blue3k:This is not the first time a flood would happen in the area, the government eventually now wants to dredge the Benue as a potential solution to this almost perennial problem; and here we are, this clown thinks it is a 'proactive' and not a 'reactive' solution. Even if you dont have a physical dictionary, just for the fact that you are putting up comments here, it means you have an active internet connection with which you can easily visit google to confirm the meaning of the words 'proactive' and 'reactive.' |
Blue3k:And you think I'm just referring to Buhari government?.... Is Buhari's government the first government in Nigeria?.... Did Buhari's government even start today?... They planned to dredge in 2017 but now we are in September, has a dime been released for that work?... Homes are already flooded and you're still bragging about 'government being proactive for 'planning' to dredge the Benue... |
eyeview:Recession they dug you into right?... They are the ones who control global oil prices right?... Or they are the ones who ensured that the economy of an endowed country like Nigeria depended only on a single volatile priced commodity (oil)?... Or knowing fully well that Nigeria depended on only oil, and knowing that the oil prices could slide any time without warning, I guess they are the ones that ensured that not a single dime of forex was saved for the rainy days like we find ourselves in presently?... Instead of saving, they even ensured they swallowed even the decent savings which were left in the reserves by predecessors, but you think it is the administration which took over when savings had dried up that wholly plunged Nigeria into recession? Nigeria's GDP was growing at over 6% when oil prices was selling for up to $100; oil suddenly crashed to roughly $65-70 and the GDP growth rate correspondingly crashed continuously to 2% as at the time PDP handed over to APC. With APC taking over, oil price crashed further to $28 but looking at the GDP chart below, a lot of educated people still feel APC alone is to blame for the recession?

Blue3k:Mr Man stops struggling to cover your simple error, it's actually a virtue to acknowledge error and move on with your life. There's always been a plan to dredge that river for ages and it has still not been executed till date. If the river is dredged today (with people already sleeping in IDP camps), it doesnt matter if the contract for it was planned 10 years ago, it would still be reactive cos the damage has already occurred. And by the way, a contract is awarded to dredge a river in 2017, but you agreed with me that 2017 isn't the first time the river is overflowing its banks; yet you still argue that this is a proactive action? Once again, it's a virtue for a person to be able to acknowledge their error (or better still just ignore the correction) instead of trying to insult the people trying to make the correction. |
Blue3k:Lol... So you actually know this isn't the first flood in the area? Floods have been happening in those areas since and there's been a perpetual plan to dredge the Benue as a solution but no administration seems to be willing to actually execute that plan. Now it's 2017, another flood has occurred again and the current admin (just like the ones before it) has now decided again to dredge the Benue. ANd you think this is a proactive and not a reactive solution?... If it's not reactive, what are all those thousands of people doing in IDP camps?.... #BigClown |
Blue3k:Chaii... See bigger clown, is this the first time you are hearing of River Benue overflowing its banks and flooding several communities? |
Blue3k: |
maxiuc:It has always gotten worse; in Nigeria, yesterday has always been better. Since I was born over 3 decades ago, there has never ever been a time when Nigerians did not complain of things being bad; there has never also been a time when all Nigerians ate 3 meals. Regarding your closing question, what is 'zoms'? Is that your family name? |
peteregwu:1. Look towards your Judiciary 2. Look towards your legislooters who have refused to amend the constitution by creating laws to jail looters. At present, there are really no laws in the rule book against looting; reason why all the big shots who have the financial chest to hire powerful team of lawyers always go free. The best the government is able to do is milk the few looters caught and recover any stolen funds that is recoverable. A lot of people (including some supposed smart people) have been asking a certain dumb question lately, "where are the recovered looted funds?... Why is PMB lying to Nigerians about fund recovery?" But without looking far, up to N350bn in the 2016 budget and up to N500bn in 2017 was said to be from recovered funds. |
maxiuc:That means Nigeria has been in recession since 1970... |
IPOBrep:Me I taya.. Tot I was the only one who noticed that... Bloggers and nonsense stories... |
cstr1000:Lol... Who is jubilating? Meanwhile regarding your question on whether that's your idea of change, whilst it is not my idea of change, it is still a tiny step better than the last admin who started borrowing to pay salaries as soon as oil price dropped. Just FYI, Nigeria was still producing 2.2million bpd of oil and oil still sold up to $65/barrel, but in February 2015, FG borrowed over $2bn to offset FG civil servant salaries and at the time, 28 states across the federation were owing salaries. Today, the meagre FIRS income at least pays off FG civil servant salaries and the FG has bailed out states twice which has made the number of states owing salaries to reduce drastically. |
benueguy:At least you dont hear of federal civil servants complaining of unpaid salaries. Bulk of those funds (if not all) is only used to offset recurrent expenditure. Now you know. |
Is this figure impressive or not?... Is the FIRS revenue increasing or reducing?... What was the amount recovered in same period last year, in 2015 and 2014? Blankly quoting N2.11trillion says nothing... |
koife:Recession and inflation are not the same thing. Education never stops, we should endeavour to keep learning and be wary of commenting on topics we aren't sure of. |
