"Another slimy attempt by the Hausa-Fulani establishment to take over Igbo owned houses and attack PDP (most houses in Abuja are owned by either hardworking Igbo businessmen or PDP looters)." ![]() |
popez:If you cut a tree from the root, you dont expect all the leaves to dry out the same day you cut the root. I would have thought this was common sense?... Nigeria was already fast sliding into recession before GEJ bailed out. See my other (long) response above. |
OLADD:@OLADD, I quoted you with a long response when you gave this same assertion about oil price not being responsible for Nigeria's recession. You either did not read my response, or you did but chickened out without a response. I will bore you with that long response again, I'd love an answer to the bolded question: Nigeria had a GDP growth rate of over 6% up until 2Q 2014, oil prices began dropping from Q3 2014 and so did Nigeria's GDP growth rate drop correspondingly. As at Q2 2015 (when power changed hands), the GDP growth rate had dropped to roughly 2% (its lowest in decades). Nigeria's foreign reserves also dropped from almost $40bn to below $30bn just between Nov'14 and May'15; that is to say over $10bn was spent in roughly 6 months by the then govt to defend the Naira but the Naira still crashed nevertheless from N160 to roughly N230 to a dollar. Of course with reserves below $30bn, it became dangerous to keep defending the Naira further to avoid a total wipe-out of our reserves (Venezuela situation). Hence why the first thing Buhari did was to start forex restrictions which quickly killed the Naira further and chased away investors leading to further economic decline. In late 2014 when oil still sold for $75, NOI already warned Nigerians to brace up for impending doom (recession) if the oil price situation persisted; in February 2015, NOI had to borrow several billions of dollars to pay workers' salaries. If Nigeria had sufficient forex reserves prior to 2015, there would have been enough to defend the Naira through the period of low oil price and Nigeria wouldn't have fallen into recession; CORRUPTION was the reason why Nigeria couldn't grow its reserves even when there was oil boom. Should I even start talking of the 2015 budget which was purely a 'budget for salaries', little or nothing was contained for capital development, less than N20bn (Naira) was budgeted for the entire Ministry of Works and ALL ongoing projects were halted with several contractors laying off thousands of workers across the country (of course ignorant folks blamed Buhari for the abandoned projects and those job loses). This is not even to mention the fact that fuel marketers were owed their subsidies for 9 months prior to May 2015 due to the same oil price driven cash crunch. All of the above happened when oil still sold up to $65/barrel, but of course, to people who can't analyse situations beyond their nose, it is Buhari who brought recession MAJORLY by appointing ministers late; Buhari would probably have performed MAGIC or a MIRACLE even though oil prices fell further to $28 and oil production was cut by up to 60% in 2016. Now guys, take a good look at the charts below comparing Nigeria's GDP growth rate with oil price: www.nairaland.com/attachments/5411323_gdp_gifa9b921e6218c89d27c14de9cfcfe7d21 http://www.tradingeconomics.com/nigeria/gdp-growth-annual Obviously, the sudden free-fall of Nigeria's gdp growth rate from mid-2014 was caused by the oil price shock and the corresponding drop in the nation's forex income; these causative factors persisted and even got much worse beyond mid-2015 (handover) with oil prices dropping to as low as $28 in January 2016 (when Nigeria OFFICIALLY entered into a recession). It is obvious from the chart to any discerning (and non-blind) person that Nigeria's economy was already in a free-fall toward the pit of recession even before Buhari stepped in. Now since you claim it was 'Buhari not appointing ministers' that caused recession and not oil price or oil sales volume, I am keen to know what explanation you intelligent economists have for the drop in GDP growth rate (from 6% to 2%) between 3Q 2014 and 2Q 2016 when the supposedly more qualified and brainy leaders still held sway? cc: popez |
Stingman:The victim mentality which has made many Igbos believe successive federal governments (including even GEJ) had/have a punitive policy against Igbos, that victim mentality and 'persecution complex' which has existed since 1970 is the reason why roads in the SE are still so bad. The victim mentality entails that we dont hold our own leaders responsible but just believe their lies that "other big tribes" are the ones shortchanging the SE. Firstly, it is a norm all over the world for representatives of regions to clamour/lobby/bribe/blackmail/scheme for projects to be brought to their regions. You cant sit down and fold your arms and expect good things to come to you. In a nation with limited resources for development, it only makes common sense for representatives of different regions to fight/scheme/lobby/blackmail for these limited resources. A big question is, what have Igbo leaders/representatives been doing for decades?... Lending Igbo support to different regimes for free?... Just recently, some Yoruba groups have threatened to withdraw support from APC central govt if the Lagos Ibadan road isnt completed, this is despite the fact that the Yorubas are part of the APC govt. The question is, what deals did Igbo leaders strike with OBJ and even GEJ to give those 2 men unalloyed support? Something tells me Igbo representatives go to Abuja only to line their personal pockets, and when they return home, they have a convenient story they've always told the people to absolve themselves of blame; they know the people already have the ''victim mentality", so they simply just say, "Yorubas and Hausas" hate and are marginalising us. The last time a MAJOR federal road was built in the SE, it was OBJ building the Owerri-Onitsha road, do you mean to tell me that even GEJ hated the SE so much as not to have fixed a single major road in the region?... Naaa, I dont believe that. GEJ was more of a 'share the money' guy and every money shared to the SE seemed to have ended only in pockets of dubious people. Regarding the SEDC, there is nothing wrong or unusual in it being declined; the bill to give Lagos a special status was also roundly declined. When such happens, instead of running about wailing and whining about how the world hates us bla bla bla, the wise thing to do is to do your homework, go around the floor, make new friends and allies, make new deals, offer people tangible things in return for their support, scratch my back and I will scratch yours, support my bill and I will support yours; if possible, bribe people to support your bill. Meanwhile, on a day you plan to present such a bill to the house, the smart thing is to arrange for all your brothers and loyal friends (and your bribed allies) to be present on the floor; the day that SEDC bill was presented to the house, there were less than 15 Igbo representatives present out of the almost 50 reps from the region and of course, it was a voice vote which killed the bill. The question we need to ask is, are our Igbo leaders and reps doing waat they ought to be doing? .. Crying solves no problem. |
Reference:Common sense tells me that the beautiful picture you paint above can only be the case if a separation is achieved through CORDIAL means. Today the semi-hunchback and his unintelligent supporters/worshipers have laid hatred and discord against the other two big Nigerian ptribes as the foundation of their secessionist campaigns. The last time I checked, he who sows the wind will reap the whirlwind; hate is also reciprocal, and that is why Nigeria is so charged up today. After dividing Nigeria on the basis of hate and deep hostilities, I cant understand how any person still thinks that millions of Igbos wishing to remain in Nigeria would still be given a warm and cordial reception. People keep giving the "Nigerians have houses in Ghana" example, but common sense should have told us that the president of Nigeria and millions of flag bearing Nigerians dont run about the world calling Ghanians animals, pigs, idiots etc.; and of course we dont also go about openly preaching hatred against Ghanaians and threatening to kill them all should there be a disagreement. It's still shocking how the entire ipob organisation is devoid of people with common sense. There's a reason the rich comfortable Igbos with any investment outside Igboland (even in the Niger delta) are very cautious about supporting ipob; it's because they are smart and understand the potential consequences of the foolish belligerent approach of ipob (their smartness is probably the reason they got rich in the first place). Ipob group is obviously populated with the poor hopeless people at the bottom cadre who believe Biafra is a Utopia which will change their fortunes; these folks dont give a damn about the trillions in investments which fellow Igbos already have outside Igboland and that is definitely the only explanation why they support the senseless approach. What I dont still get is why the educated ones cant guide the actions of the rest. |
rozayx5:Oh yes, selective amnesia and selective 'sense' is what will kill most of us in Nigeria. When the same Sahara Reporters exposed the Dubai properties of Gen Buratai and even published purchase receipts, of course we did not see some of these sort of pointless ethnic/regional/tribal denouncements of SR by your likes; or maybe I forgot, Buratai at that time must have been a PDP man from the South East according to the warped logic of some people. When Sahara Reporters also was revealing how Tinubu bought a second jet, and how he owned First Nation Airlines, the warped logic of some folks also interpreted it that Tinubu at that time was a PDP man from Onitsha. No wonder some meaningless comments like the one above are being made today. Sahara must really be a useless outfit which is paid to expose the fuckups of south eastern Christians. |

People who are hell-bent on feigning ignorance for the sake of just having a political argument (cos I don't believe you guys are actually ignorant in real life). |
smartty68:Mr Man go and sleep. If you cant, you can choke yourself in some hard drugs to force yourself to sleep. Your evil wishes and plots against Nigeria may only work for a while but God's Grace will always pull the country through irrespective of the opinions and ill wishes of unwise losers. Now bid it! |
Arrester171:By the time the current government took over, the Naira had already dropped from that 140/150 you quoted to about 220/230. So with this you comment, are you suggesting that Nigeria was already in recession when this govt took over? |
smartty68: smartty68:Chaii... So because a MoD earlier dismissed the yet to be confirmed story which came out this morning as false report, the MoD to you has now suddenly become an omniscient god who knows it all and makes no mistakes right?... Even though I clearly stated in my original post that the info has now been officially confirmed by the NBS? The tweet I attached above, do you know whose handle that is?... If you go back to that thread link you posted, are you aware the MoD has now realised his mistake and reopened the thread? By the way, why do I sense a sort of frustration in your tone over this news?... I could clearly sense the glee in your tone when you claimed the story is fake. I should have known I was conversing with one of the enemies of Nigeria's progress. ![]() |

wizygreat2000:You mean "more like the PDp losers"? |
Nigeria's constitution needs serious amendment. Meanwhile according to the Omokris of this world, Aunty Patty has joined APC. |
Femjonsonn:No he has actually always been this shallow. The fascinating thing is how serious he looks and sounds when making such stupid assertions to the admiration of his crowd of dumb gullible flock. |
Firefire:If apc corruption fight isnt good enough for you, what do you have to say about your own 'stealing is not corruption' hero who rewards the corrupt with national honours and state pardons for those who were convicted outside Nigeria? |
FrankFrenzy:Reno truly represents his surname very well: Omokri = He-goat If Reno thinks the fight against corruption under APC isnt strong, what does the mumu pastor have to say about the corruption fight under his 'stealing is not corruption' boss? |
wirinet:Well, Kanu didnt exactly start the secessionist campaings in 2015, he actually started sometime in late 2013 and was even interviewed by Sahara Reporters sometume un early 2014. But until the 2015 elections, he was largely unknown, unpopular, disregarded and even considered to be insane by all; same way in which the folks of MASSOB were also disregarded as old hungry folks by all. The results of 2015 elections however changed the game for Kanu. With the disappointment, frustration and anger of Jonathan loosing the elections, a lot of people began to renounce their Nigerianness; and automatically, Kanu's previously disregarded weird ideologies and wild preachings suddenly started sounding like a heavenly gospel music... The anger reached a peak in May 29th 2015 after Buhari was officially sworn-in; Kanu himself as a bad sharp opportunist took the pains to visit Nigeria personally on the May 30th Biafra remembrance day celebration and was greeted with a hero's welcome by a crowd who began to see him as the only alternative to a Buhari presidency which they had rejected. |
menmen20100:If the rally in the video you posted occured on May 30th 2015, how exactly does it nullify the other thread?... As at May 30th, it was already two (2) months after GEJ lost the election and it was even a day after Buhari was sworn in to the disappointment of millions of GEJ supporters. So I ask again, what exactly does this thread or this video nullify?... A video of an Nnamdi Kanu rally prior to the 2015 election should have made more sense. And then again, stop deceiving yourself with this empty "Jonathan ignored ipob statement," NO leader (not even a weak Jonathan) will sit back and fold his arms watching while anybody tries to divide the kingdom he rules; even Kanu rejected a Biafra without Benue and Rivers state ![]() Under Jonathan's leadership, several members of MASSOB were arrested and some even killed (Ezu River massacre) and nobody gave a damn about it. The head of the Biafran zionist movement (Chief Ben Onwuka) who declared Biafra during Jonathan's reign was also arrested, locked up and the key thrown away for several months without any trial and that happened under the government of GEJ. See picture of how the zionists were humiliated below: www.nairaland.com/attachments/5913315_paradedbiafraarmy2_jpegd2eedd3b0ec60dbf967c05d184ed69b3 The simple reason Jonathan did not arrest Kanu was because during Jonathan's time, Kanu was a nobody who was based in the UK making noise to his very insignificant audience, nobody took him serious then. How many people knew Kanu before April 1st 2015? Did YOU even know him yourself?... and how exactly was Jonathan meant to arrest an 'unknown' person living in far away the UK? People started paying attention and following Kanu only after GEJ lost the election because Kanu at the time seemed to be the only alternative left for millions of disgruntled Jonathan supporters from the south east who could clearly smell the potential political consequences of the poor politics played by the Igbo nation in 2015. 99% of IPOb and Kanu supporters today only declared support for Kanu/IPOB after the 2015 elections. This is a fact that cannot be wished away, everything about the explosion of IPOb is deeply rooted in politics of 2015. But unfortunately, Buhari with his actions and inactions keep lending validity to the ipob distractions. cc: cjrane, Zikaviirus, richeso |

Basic123:Too bad, but there's this song we used to sing back in the days as kids "first to do, e no dey pain; second to do, eye dey red." No doubt, the election of 2015 was more intense and people were much more passionately attached to it; hence the emotional pain from the outcome. |
unohbethel:The answer to the question you're indirectly asking is contained in the quote below. PStacks:IPOB existed before 2015 but only as an insignificant group despite all the preachings and threats from Kanu on Radio Biafra. 99% of IPOB's current followership pledged to the group after GEJ lost the 2015 election and the hitherto disregarded Nnamdi Kanu suddenly became a god... In summary, IPOB is just a gathering of angry Jonathanians, hence why they're still deeply attached to anything PDP and hate anything APC (including core Igbo members) with a passion. |
99% of IPOB followers pledged support to IPOB after GEJ/PDP lost the 2015 election; the driving factor and origin of their hatred and disgust for Nigeria was the loss of their chosen candidate and the fact that their candidate lost because the other two big Nigerian tribes voted against their candidate. With all these, I suppose the reason behind the attachment of IPOB members with PDP is clear. |
Dead brains everywhere... Just conjure nonsense out of the abundance of their dumb imaginations and begin to preach it as fact. |
Confused miscreants calling for unnecessary bloodshed. Like I always say, the only way the election boycott by IPOB will work is if they forcefully enforce it by disrupting the polls, intimidating or even mobbing willing voters and generally unleashing chaos across the state. |

zionmade1:The bolded part of your message is a big riddle. The roads in the north are clearly in better shape than the ones down south, what really could be the reason?.... I think it's high time we sat down and debated this particular issue. Could it be that funds are only released for roads in the north?... or could it be that contracts for roads in the north are awarded to reputable companies whilst those down south are awarded to quacks?.... Could it also be that contract funds for roads down south are usually embezzled by those in power in connivance with the contractors while funds for those in the north are used judiciously?...Or could it just be that roads in the north are not only cheaper to build and maintain, but also last far longer than roads down south (probably due to terrain, weather etc)?... There very few major federal roads in the SE and over the last few decades, the only major road which has been built properly and completed seems to be the Owerri-Onitsha road. Why is this the case?... Why is it rocket science to fix the PH-Enugu road and the Onitsha-Enugu roads?... Those with the responsibility of clamouring/scheming/blackmailing for these roads to be fixed, have they been doing what they ought to be doing or do they just fold their arms, engage in peppersouping whilst waiting for a miracle?... There are just to many questions begging for answers regarding these 2 roads. |
Kiakia:The end story of the story is yet to be known, so it makes no sense to judge anything now. |
SalamRushdie:Which people exactly?... For meaningful development to take place, things like this (i.e. shifting market location) are inevitable; and there would certainly be people opposed to it. The relocation of this particular market is long overdue to ensure sanity in one of the most important roads in the centre of owerri. |
