Same way some people troll about blaming APc/buhari for not fixing everything in Nigeria in 2 years of recession even though the people they supported spent 16 years. Avenue to loot the treasury. Very unfortunate. We don't have leaders, we only have looters and greedy creatures. God pls intervene and save us. We're talking sustainable renewable energy and you just rubbished hydro-power claiming its a form of energy the world is moving away from? Wow! Can you please enlighten us on the more reliable renewable energy sources which you have up your sleeves which makes you feel it's a stupid idea to invest in hydro-power in 2017? I'm keen to know whether you criticise from a position of knowledge or whether you just criticise because you think it makes you appear smart. |

mapet: That is why many young folks don't grow 1. I doubt if he knows next to nothing about Justin Trudeau of Canada......even the info on Web 2. It is obvious that he is very limited in comprehension and perception about hydro-, the share volume of power that will come from the dams and other strategic benefits it adds to the nation. 3. when someone opens his mouth (or sticky fingers) to say "hydro doesn't work in Nigeria"....and offers solar as alternative, then we can understand that not only is this a case of ignorance at it's peak, but also a case of lack of knowledge and awareness of current events. I thought the Fashola had told the nation almost 2yrs ago that the strategy is to use the resource of each location as strategic source of power - Solar where there are lots of sunlight (Katsina, Kogi, Abuja, Jigawa, Plateau and Kaduna), hydro where there are high flowing rivers (Taraba, Kaduna, Niger, Osun ), Coal (Enugu) Gas (Niger delta states) and Wind (Katsina). 4. Some of these kids overreach themselves. They have limited knowledge and exposure and demonstrate crude ignorance recklessly mapet: You are going too far Bro. You're dealing with people whose minds have been enslaved by "overlords" that tell them "good" is "bad" It's really sad that a lot of people just feel this internal compulsion to criticise and criticise everything just for the sake of politics/ethnic/regional sentiments. |

We are really encouraging local companies made in Nigeria to grow the naira indeed.
Silly senseless man People just sit in the comfort of their homes doing what they know how to do best, insulting others. China provides over 80% of the funds but you expect them to get nothing in return?... You expect them to leave the job for local contractors?... First of all, do you know what it takes to build a dam of that magnetude?.. and you expect Nigerian contractors that havent even proven themselves in the building of simple bridges to handle such an expensive complex project?.... By the way, if Nigerians are to get the contract, where would the funds come from? |

PierreDeFermat: that's why we need a young ,smart leader like Justin Trudeau of Canada. what does Buhari know about power generation, still earmarking such huge amount to what doesn't work in Nigeria when he can spend it on solar power. Nigerian leaders just don't think. this is surely going to be like the others. we keep wasting billions of dollars on power generation and light gets worse in the country. I've been eating all these rubbish shit since I was a kid,yet electricity is getting worse. you stick to same idea that doesn't work and expect people not to think you're suffering from insanity or dementia? ...You just termed buhari a dullard for thinking hydro-power and then you suggest solar as your wise alternative? On what basis have you come to that conclusion? |

sirkrux05: If there is equality and fairness in Nigeria, why is the president carrying out major contracts in the North and non in the South. Nonsense. Will the power produced in Mambilla be circulated only in Taraba state?... Are there fast flowing suitable rivers that can support this sort of project elsewhere?... Must everything be a source of lamentation in Nigeria?... This is a project that has been planned since 1972 and every single administration since then has been paying lip service to it. This is a 3000mw renewable energy project which is capable of changing the game in Nigeria's power generation. Why can't we just lend support to something good for once without turning it to regional politics? |

Statsocial: Huh to be sincere I am jealous.... Lalasticlala I think we all need to see this.
We need to realise Nigeria can't fund all its universities to World Class. We need to pick 6(one from each region) flagship universities like the ivy leagues or C9 of China and fund it excessively like Ghana funds the university of Ghana, so that those universities can in turn help to solve some of our top most national problems. Those universities would be 1) Mandated to reduce their various enrollment sizes to NUC recommended capacities. 2) Encouraged to put more emphasis on postgraduate/research education. 3) Allowed to determine its fees in line with an agreed aggregate with FG(Not expensive but not outrageously low) 4) Encouraged to do away with Catchment policies and Elds consideration for undergraduate enrollment and staff recruitment. 5) Encouraged to remain comprehensive universities but with a degree of speciality in certain disciplines e.g UI for Medicine/Surgery, ABU for Military research, UNN for renewable energy 6) Mandated to do away with ASUU 7) Encouraged to tap into industry partnership for more income.
Encouraged to create an important metric that assess researchers relevance in Scopus and Thompson Reuters web of science and base staff promotion on it. 9) Excessively funded by govt. Recommendation would be to allocate additional funds of 25 billion per university. 10) Mandated to publish annual independent financial audit report by either PwC or KPMG which would be posted on the University website as done by many world class university. 11) Encouraged to have a strong and updated internet presence to boost visibility of the universities. UI and UNN websites looks like junk. 12) Govt set up an apolitical technical committee and assess the performance of these universities across their core mandate, research relevance, international outlook and rankings(especially Times and ARWU)
So that would be 150 billion more for our flagship universities. Considering the fact that the Nigerian senate takes just about that amount as its annual budget then that shouldn't be too hard for Nigeria to afford. Brilliant! Couldn't have said it better. badmussy: Before Nigerians jump on this as usual. Compare the fees
https://www.ug.edu.gh/sites/default/files/documents/2017%20-%202018%20-%20college%20of%20health%20sciences.pdf
Convert to Naira. Use Full fee paying for Ghanaian citizens. This is the main point which no one wishes to talk about, the fees! Nigerians no wan die but dem wan go heaven; better soup, na money kill am. Anyway, I think the govt should consider building some premium schools and hospitals like this, strictly for those who have the money to pay (and for those who can merit it through scholarships etc). A consideration should be given to building about 6 of these 'power' universities and hospitals and charging premium fees. Of course it would be met with wild protests and condemnations with people tagging it a government of the elite trying to oppress the poor, but heck! People will always complain in everything. The fact is that having such in Nigeria would definitely benefit Nigeria in terms of funds saved on medical amd educational toirism. We already have millions of Nigerians spending millions for common headache treatment overseas. Any policy move to trap those funds within Nigeria is to our collective benefit. Of course the premium institutions would also serve as a national pride and give us bragging rights amongst the comity of nations (even though the poor may not be able to access them). |

Has that really converged? Interbank which used to be close to CBN rate at around N310 was devalued about 4 weeks ago to N359. Also remember that with the creation of a number of investor windows recently in the range of N350-N375, almost all forex transactions now fall within that range. In fact, I'm not sure which transactions currently still happen on CBN rate. What they did was systematically devalue in a quiet way... |

naptu2: The Super Tucano (made by Embraer of Brazil) made its first flight in 1999 and the US Government is currently considering buying a large number of them (they bought a few for testing a few years ago). It's obviously not a World War 2 plane.
The US Government got involved in the deal because:
1) Some of the components are made in the US
2) The US government is also planning to buy lots of light attack aircraft. Six companies, including Embraer have been competing for the contract since 2015. The US bought a handful of Super Tucanos years ago in order to test them. Embraer did not want to upset the US, who might purchase many times more aircraft than Nigeria, just because Nigeria wanted to buy a handful of aircrafts. Now there are three aircrafts competing for the contract and the Super Tucano (A-29) is still in the race.
http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/10289/three-planes-will-square-off-in-the-usafs-light-attack-experiment YEah but you will agree with me that at about $50million dollar per piece, that's an immoral and diabolic rip-off. And I wouldn't want to believe it's the Nigerian Air force inflating the prices (for the usual sinister purposes); this particular transaction has been reported in even foreign media. |

ruffhandu: I doubt if traveling to mecca on pilgrimage is more important than importing a piece of manufacturing equipment for a small scale industry. Like I said before, the real debate should be on how to prioritise what is more important than the others. Pilgrims being offered dollars at the official rate while more valuable manufacturers majorly get their needed forex at black-market rates, that is something that definitely kills business morale. Anyway, with the recent convergence of official interbank rates and black-market rates, this issue is already being solved. |
