Spidermon:
Dangote!!

Well, you can fool some of the people all the time, all of the people for some of the time but you cant fool all the people all the time.

With govt monopolistic backing and ready access to funds, anybody can blow.

His case doesn't amaze me.
Is Dangote the only one who has received govt backing?.... What stops other businessmen from bribing govt too for favours?.. Shrewd businessmen all over the world lobby the govt to get favours, Nigeria isnt an exception. Dangote lobbies ANY GOVT IN POWER and by doing so, has earned the backing of every single govt in recent times. By being able to do that (irrespective of the govt), it means the man is genius for starters.

But then again, there's something that makes him stand out; unlike the thousands of other businessmen who have also enjoyed govt backing, Dangote has been a mega-genius and a mega-patriot who has invested the favours he gets in improving Nigeria (unlike others who all scramble for petrol import license so they can steal subsidies to the detriment of Nigeria)..

By 2019 when his mega-refinery starts, Dangote would single handedly overhaul Nigeria's economy without even stepping into govt. I see Nigeria's gdp doubling within few years and I see the Naira being restored instantly to less than N150 to $1; whoever is the president by 2019 would be the luckiest 'fluke' in Nigeria's history, thanks to Dangote.

You are the ones living in denial, you don't pay tax but you want a good country, you vote for criminals but you want good leaders, you don't participate in politics but you want good leaders, instead you are focused on Brexit and Hilary/Trump as if it affects your life one iota!! $175m was found inside accounts of your former 1st lady, that's enough to build 100Mw power station fix some of the roads you complain about, renovate MMa, Ph And Abuja Airports or even start a national carrier, instead your youths are protesting the fate of Tinubu, another crook, T.B Joshua's prophecy about Eledtions and Wole Soyinka's green card. You don't embrace your culture, you speak in foreign accents but you call yourselves giant of Africa, you don't invest long term but you expect sustainable development, everything you eat wear and consume is imported. Manufacturing is dominated by Indians and Lebanese, you don't complain but as soon as a Nigerian dominates a sector you start to complain. You call yourselves a nation of traders but you can't even start a chain of supermarkets, you have to wait for South Africans and Srilankans to develop supermarket chains for you. You spend all your money on Dstv, Dstv gives your money to premier league, they get richer and your local league gets poorer and then you complain that we don't do well in football competitions. You get an education but refuse to think, instead every sunday you pray for miracles and use all your education to donate your hard earned earnings to fraudulent pastors to enjoy the good life at your expense.

You are the one of the worlds top Oil producers, working refinery you don't have, Infrastructure you don't have, No good roads, no good schools, no good hospitals, unemployable graduates, no industries, no power, no nothing....you can't even produce fuel!!!!!!. But you are one of the worlds top consumers of Champagne!!! Thank God we have Dangote, a man who doesn't think like the typical Nigerian because if not for him, Naira will be N5000 to a dollar within 3 years. Make no mistake about it, the only thing that will save the Naira is that Dangote had the foresight to start building a refinery before Oil collapsed. That refinery when it comes on stream will reduce the need to import fuel which is the biggest drain on our foreign reserves. Instead in typical Nigerian fashiopn you are green with envy!!! you would rather an Indian, Lebanese or Oyinbo controlled your economy. free yourself from your slave mentality.

Nigeria and Brazil started their defense industries at the same time in 1960, today ours has collapsed and we are going to Brazil begging to buy ammunition to defend ourselves. Nobody is stopping you from starting your own, infact the govt in encouraging locals by giving Innoson contracts for army spare parts. Tomorrow if a Nigerian starts a defense manufacturing company and corners army contracts because there is nobody else , people like you will start complaining, you would rather we be slaves to the west and foreign powers than see a fellow Nigerian rewarded for taking risks.

The problem with Nigeria are people like you who unfortunately are the majority!!!
God bless you!

I feel very irritated when I see the sheer level of envy/jealousy, hate and pull-him-down mentality people express towards Dangote for daring to be a genius and a patriot.

Dangote in a couple of years now would be the sole saviour of Nigeria's economy with his businesses. You keep hearing people say things like 'monopoly' and that he earned or through govt favoritism. But the question I always ask is, how come it is only Dangote who enjoys this favoritism from every successive Nigerian govt irrespective of tribe/region?... Is Dangote the only one who has enjoyed govt patronage?... where were other businessmen were when Dangote was rising to the top?... what did other business men do with their own govt patronage?... Probably they mostly prefered going into the oil business, specifically the importation of fuel and fraudulently cornering billions in subsidies to the destruction of Nigeria yet some bad-belle Nigerians int the typical pull-him-down mentality are angry with Dangote's progress.

If Dangote had been made to compete on a level playing field with other entrepreneurs,he wont av mafe it this far.
Dangote simply used political patronage to get here, not that he is d most ingenious bizman in nigeria
Have you ever wondered how this one man has been able to get this political patronage from EVERY SINGLE government irrespective of tribe, ethnicity or region?.... The answer is simple, he's a genius, you cant take that away from him.

The only reason these punks can do what they do and say the sort of things they say is cos they know the intellectual capacity and mental state of their followers.

Buhari has really messed up the handling of this saga. If I were Buhari, upon assuming office, I would have totally romanced the SS that lays the golden eggs feeding the nation while I totally ignore the rants of this ipod sect and their followers. It gets to a point where a people would be so so ignored, they would begin to doubt their own existence. But sadly, buhari seems to lump even the SS into the same boat thereby giving these ipod folks a voice.

Wasnt it this same Enugu PDP bishop that publicly accused and warned Rochas of engaging in anti-Igbo activities because Rochas expressed a wish to have senator Ekweremmadu (PDP-Igbo) replaced with Uwajumogu (APC-Igbo)?... And of course, he made the statement to a gleeful and concurring crowd of IPOb/anti-APC faithfuls.

Is this the sort of man of God one should be taking seriously?.... Reminds me of a line by Fela "archbishop na miliki, pope na enjoyment." Definitely, no one would want the miliki and enjoyment taken away from him.

I agree with you but you ought to know we're talking of different things. I voted neither jonathan nor buhari because I knew they both were not good enough for this country
Every single time I hear this nonsense accusation about 'this govt only blaming the last admin', I just scroll back up to the origin of the discussion and one thing has always been constant; it is usually agents and supporters of the last useless admin that start the blame game, but they become the first to lament when their favour is returned.

Just imagine the bizarre nonsense, a diehard jonathan supporter blaming buhari for the chibok saga and hailing GEJ in the same sentence?

Imo has not had any issues with herdsmen, yet you expect rochas to be all over the news talking of herdsmen... To you and your like minded ilk, talking about herdsmen is now a VIRTUE, and it's even more of a virtue when it is done by a person you love to hate all because of his party. Summary:

The military sources said Boko Haram did not release the girls without getting anything in return and that the Federal Government (Under Buhary) indeed paid a ransom and released some of the group’s strategists that were detained (by Jonathan).

One of the sources said it was sad that the same government that was initially seen as tough enough to end insurgency in the country failed to negotiate with Boko Haram from a position of strength.

“It is unfortunate that in government’s desperation to secure the release of the Chibok girls, it has put our (soldiers’) lives in danger by yielding to the demands of the group to collect a ransom and secure the release of its commanders.

“It is now obvious that the group has reinforced and bought more weapons to fight us.”

According to another source, left to the military, the ransom and the exchange of Boko Haram members for Chibok girls would not have taken place" - Punch

listen to yourself talk, who else can give the value of a product it is the manufacturer, in this instant the manufacturer is FGN since it is the one who provides the dollars.

the margin government has set is very reaslitic , you buy 390 sell 400, that is very realistic. What expense are the BDC guys incuring that they will now add additional 60 to 70 naira on every dollar. to me it makes no sense.
The only reason the BDCs can actually add a whooping 60 to 70 and still be able to sell is because there is still scarcity of the commodity. When there is scarcity, by natural law of demand and supply, the price goes up. So with the current level of demand for the commodity, 400 doesn't sound realistic.

no that is not correct and right, i know manufacturers who give their distributors a margin to work with.

Atleast a personal experience is thermocool, they go round and enssure their distributors do not sell lower and higher than a price range, anyone found doing so loses his license as a distributor.

Also this is why you see some product, carrying the prices tag on their packs.

doubling the price without proper justification makes no sense, if the manufacturers do not hw can you do that as a distrubtor, where is the moral justification.

The bdc deserve what they are getting and i see a drop in price, called my aboki yesterday and he confirmed he is selling at 400 naira.

The writer of this thread is misleading Nigerians, probably to create more sentiment or a panic situation.

it is all greedy, every body shouts politicians are corrupt, tell me what this is if nt corruption.
The manufacturers would give them a realistic margin; i.e. something close to the true value of the product being sold. If that's not the case, you can never discount or water down the influence of human greed, the marketers MUST find a way to manipulate the system to get more profits, but that is not to say that erring marketers shouldn't be punished if they are caught. The only way this model of price control can really be enforced effectively is if the controlled price isn't far away from the 'true price.'

I am not contradicting myself, go back and read what I wrote, but this time do it slowly with an open mind, and you will realise that the epistle you just typed is the same thing I wrote. The only additional point i made was that the BDCs deserve the treatment they get for breaching the agreement they signed when they got cheap forex from the CBN source.

It is like me manufacturing a car and selling to the distributor at 500k, and this same distributor now sell it to the public at 1m. What useless market forces is that one. what value are they adding that they will jack it up that high. Abeg dss should clamp harder on them.
The point is that in the first place you shouldnt be selling the car to the distributor at that cheap rate of 500k with the hope that he would sell at 550k. The fact is that he would end up selling the car for over a million because there are lots of people already begging him to sell that car to them for over a million.

How naive can you and the government be to think that banks and bureau de changes will simply ignore demand and supply dynamics to make a profit , and instead , conduct themselves to please the government?

Everyone is in business to have advantage.

Which part of economics and human nature do you not understand ?
Maybe I should rephrase my comment for you to comprehend it... Like I said earlier, it is impossible for the CBN/Fg to enforce the price fixing, it is also silly for the CBN to even fix the price in the first place. However, the raided BDCs deserve every bit of treatment they get. They signed an agreement to get dollars at a cheap rate from a privileged source and also sell at a cheap rate. For them to turn around and sell at the going rate is a criminal breach of agreement.

The only reassuring thing about this news however is that we are at least making some marked progress in this regard.
