I totally support this. 13% derivation shouldnt be meant for the whole state, it should be meant for the direct oil producing communities who directly bear the brunt of oil exploration and production. Even if the money is passed through governors, the funds should be kept aside and used strictly for oil bearing communities. If that was the case since 2002, oil producing communities would all have been like Bonny Island and we wouldn't have these agitations we have today.

Western union still functions, but several similar money transfer operators came up recently which offered far better exchange rates and lower fees, so nobody really cares about Westi anymore. The unfortunate thing now is that the CBN with its recent directives has now pegged the exchange rate for all the newer transfer operators, so they aren't really better than western union anymore.

You shouldn't allow the big fancy figures you read in the titles push you into irrational delusions as it is doing presently to you and several others on this thread who have been asking why govt can't use these 'massive' funds to finance the budget deficit. The real question you should ask yourself is, where do you think the govt raises the almost N4 trillion it uses for recurrent expenses?

The revenue made so far in 2016 by FIRS still falls within the exact same range that has always been generated at least in the last 4 to 5 years; same goes for Customs, nothing signifantly more has been realised when compared to previous years and most of these moneys still end up servicing just the massive recurrent component of the budget.

The only reason why these figures are news worthy is because despite the massive dip in revenue from oil (oil company tax previously brings more than half of the FIRS revenue) and the reduction in import volume into the country, the FIRS and Customs have somehow been able to still maintain the same level of revenue generation as previous years, possibly due to improved efficiency.

Why exactly do northern reps have to be in a Niger delta board?

First of all, they talk about "sources" and that sounds fishy already. It seems as if journalists use that word to give there work legitimacy when they are saying the truth or not. There is just something of about this piece.

Secondly, i don't understand how a European country would be opposed to another countries agricultural output especially since they don't actually produce rice. It just sounds a little weird like something a conspiracy theorist would write.

I would assume you did not read the report properly, because the part of the report which talked about a European country was referring to stockfish not rice.

Nigeria imports stockfish from Norway and some other Scandinavian countries; now Nigeria's CBN bans this importation and of course, trade volume reduces. Do you honestly think such a country would be excited?

I would assume you did not read the report?... cos of you did you should have seen where it said total local production is approximately 2.8million tonnes while Nigeria's total consumption is over 6million tonnes.

I already weep for what the recently commissioned Abuja-Kaduna high speed train system would become in a few years. It was an ill-thought decision to leave the operation of those trains in the hands of government. During its commision, for obviously political reasons, Amaechi already announced a reduction in fares for the trains, that already is a disaster because instead of being an independent profit generating asset, the trains have already become resource sapping liabilities that would require budget allocation every year...

I was on that road in October, and I can agree that it is really bad. However, I think Fashola is trying to finish up on pending project before he starts working on new project. I agree with that but I think that road should be an exception. It is a major road in the east and it is really bad

Some things are too important to be allowed to wait. An emergency operation can be conducted to fix the very bad portions of the road first, that shouldnt require so much money.

If NLNG was still under the Army, it would have been long gone just like the refineries and other institutions that were left to rot INCLUDING NNPC.

This particular one has absolutely nothing to do with Military or Democracy. The only reason NLNG is functional and profitable today is because it is operated by a multinational Shell. Pass the control to government (democracy or not) and NLNG would be history and another national liability. Democracy or military, I can't point out any single thing which works under Nigerian government control; if you know any please tell me.

As long as the management and operation would be concessioned and managed by the private sector, possibly foreign airline operators, then this is a beautiful decision. But anything short of that would be another monumental waste and disaster. The only government assets which function properly are those whose operations are totally outside the control/management of government (e.g. NLNG).
