You must be joking right?... Lower oil price has reduced cost of raw materails? I just gave you a link explaining how pure water producers complain of lack/high cost of forex to import polythene and you still argue that oil price should reduce that too right? http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/dollar-scarcity-2-million-kano-youths-to-be-sacked-as-pure-water-factories-close-down.190546/In your own wisdom and understanding, low oil price would also reduce the price of imported machinery and spare parts right?... Demand has drastically decreased by 200% hence your curve is not realistic. Simple.
There is no scarcity on essential goods until demand exceeds supply. Chaii... and this woman continues to embarrass herself. It appears you just completed an economics lecture with all these your confused economic pronouncements?... I just told you the cost of production/packaging for pure water has increased due to scarcity/high cost of forex and this had led to the increase in price. Politics › Re: Food Prices: PMB Vs GEJ by obailala(m): 4:02pm On Mar 22, 2016 |
LadyExcellency: Please enroll for a crash course on basic economics.
Nigerians are not importing either sachet water or water melons.
Fuel scarcity and power outages are not a result exchange rate with "crude for refined product" system.
Already, most importation are no more dependent on CBN reserve as most Nigerian businesses are now registered and based in Benin Republic and Cameroon were their Governments finance the imports. The hardest person to wake is the person who feigns his/her sleep... Similarly, it's quite frustrating explaining things to people who have wilfully permitted political/ethnic/religious sentiments block their ability to comprehend even the most basic things of life. Even a junior secondary school student should be able to understand the link between the scarcity of forex in an import dependent country and the price of basic commodities. Every single person in one way or the other, directly or indirectly is affected by the forex scarcity, even for home made commodities, the price of raw materials for their production has gone up and this affects the end price. You cited the pure water example claiming pure water isn't imported, if you haven't wilfully forced this 'intellectual sleep' on yourself, you should know that pure water manufacturers import machinery, spare parts and even some of the synthetic materials (polythene) they use in packaging your pure water and if these raw material/production costs go up, it affects the cost of their end product. The link below is just one report detailing why you may have to pay more for pure water, I'm sure even a kid should be able to comprehend this. http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/dollar-scarcity-2-million-kano-youths-to-be-sacked-as-pure-water-factories-close-down.190546/Finally, you don't need a basic or advanced course in economics to know this, all you need is just #CommonSense. |

LadyExcellency: How can you be talking of scarcity during recession?
Go school, you refuse? Nigeria imports almost everything, forex is required to facilitate these imports, oil price drops, there is now a scarcity of forex in the country, the price of forex goes up due to this scarcity and now someone who is bragging about being educated is asking why price of commodities are going up? #WasteOfSchoolFees |

freeze001: You create the impression of being enlightened enough to sift through the chaff of electoral promises and your core concern of tackling corruption. How many people in Nigeria have the benefit of such enlightenment? If those promises were not expected to be of no effect why were they made? You are very aware that the greater proportion of our population are uneducated/illiterate and are definitely swayed by these unrealistic promises as u call them. It is also clear that grassroots campaigns were centered around those promises so what n how do you expect them to react with the about-face of the government as contained in its manifesto? Do you really mean to say that of the 1.9 million plus votes credited to Kano State alone, that every one of the voters understood the lies embedded in all other promises made and cast their votes without any expectation of fulfillment of any other thing but fighting corruption?
Now the agreed effect of corruption on any society is widespread poverty, non-development, infrastructural deficit, poor health access and even more. What more noble way is there to fight corruption than a clear trace of sums recovered and their planned use to make available all those denied the citizenry from independence till date? How much has been recovered so far? Where is it? How is it being administered? How does it translate to the amenities promised in their campaigns? The point I made earlier is simple, you blame APC of being insincere in their campaign promises, but the big question is, was the alternative PDP any sincere?... Remember PDP's insincerity had already been tested and engraved for 16 locust years. The fact remains that politicians are always politicians and politicians (both PDP and APC) always make insincere and fictitious promises during campaigns. Besides APC and PDP, if you can't show me a better alternative which was 'HONEST' in the 2015 campaigns, then you have no rights to scold me for choosing the perceived lesser evil between 2 dubious groups. |

Hahaha... I just enjoy watching some of these wailers foam in the mouth whenever they hear any news concerning Nigerian leadership. It's quite amazing how people can just choose to be bitter for a prolonged period and then unwittingly suffer the negative consequences of these bitter emotions on their reasoning.
The previous government which NOI worked with only attempted to fight corruption using technology/systems/institutions (a.k.a trying to separate the goat from the yams). NOI now says Technology/Systems/Institutions PLUS the punishing of culprits is the best way to fight corruption; this happens to be exactly what the present government is doing as evidenced in the instant implementation of the TSA, the quick discovery of tens of thousands of ghost workers and the current moves being made to apprehend and punish the culprits. But unfortunately, no thanks to hateful emotions, the grey matter in the skulls of most vocal wailers has since expired so they cant even comprehend the simple statement made by the woman. |

"When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.." - Confucius Forex reserve was ~$28bn as at May 29th 2015. 10 months later, it is still ~$27bn. But go check the history in http://www.cbn.gov.ng/, under your lord and saviour GEJ, the foreign reserves dropped helplessly from ~$38bn to ~$28bn between 2014 october to 2015 May when oil prices began to drop; i.e. in just 7 months, $10bn was eroded from the CBN forex reserves under the watchful eyes of the ineffectual one and his world class economic team. Meanwhile as at May 29th, 2015, oil still sold above $60/barrel. Search yourself carefully and tell me God did not save Nigeria from those locusts in May 2015? |

freeze001: The fact that you find the idea of building one million houses per year ludicrous should tell you that a maker of such a promise had nothing but mischief and deceit planned. It should also show you that there was never any intent of following through on such an unrealistic promise. U say u have just heard for the first time...it is good it is Buhari himself that has brought it to your notice because otherwise u would be all over d place screaming that it is untrue or that it was the party that made d promise n not buhari.
It is obvious that Buhari and his handlers made these promises to deliberately hoodwink and manipulate the poor and unlearned and deprived members of the society who are in the majority to vote them into office.
How then do you find it convenient to excuse such deception and wickedness calculated to make a group of people take a decision and act on it and when you are given what you requested you turn around and renege just because you have taken their bargaining power but they have no choice other than hope and pray or even curse if they may but they cannot get them out because they are insulated with every sophisticated form of protection and feed fat still on the common heritage of the people that voted and even those that never supported them?
See your line of reasoning here. In your daily engagement within your personal sphere of life, do u make promises u already know u cannot keep? At least it is clear that this kind of promise is not feasible even if oil prices were at $150/barrel. I am assuming u do not consider the APC and Buhari dumb or foolish and that is why u support and defend them so I believe they could tell that 1 million houses in one yr, 5000 to all unemployed and vulnerable people were impracticable promises. What purpose then were those promises designed for? Was it to make the manifesto interesting or what?
It is obvious that they are all a band of thieves and deceptive kleptomaniacs who desperately sought power and were united in the singular purpose of ousting the former president. They had no plans of doin anything better or different but just wanted access to oil wealth and funds. Now they are there, what is the benefit of the people?
It is one thing to make a promise that is clearly possible to fulfil but are unable to due to clear circumstances beyond your control. However, when u deliberately make mouthwatering promises that even at the time cannot be fulfilled and u knew just like Buhari and APC knew; then u further compound your deception by making those promises to poor, uneducated, unenlightened, disadvantaged people...that apology after reneging on your promise is like putting a knife in and twisting it. It is witchcraft and manipulation. It is an outright lie! That means u took advantage of their status and deliberately made them take actions to supposedly better their lots but alas it is worse than ever under your watch!
I know you will say fighting corruption is the major reason for voting him in. Corruption is bad and must be dealt with. Tell me though, when the proceeds from the corruption fight cannot be translated into improved standards of living for the citizens then what is the point? Where is it kept and how is it deployed? Where is the promised transparency in governance? All politicians are deceitful beings, none is a saint and you can quote me anywhere on that. But it is left for a smart person to choose which one he/she feels is a lesser evil. I would rather go with the deceiver who tells me 3 years ahead of time that due to the harsh economic situations (which is no fault of theirs), they wouldn't be able to go ahead with certain promises. As bad as it may sound, I prefer this sincerity to the one who promises me heaven and earth, doesn't fulfil them and then still comes back to deceive the poor gullible and uninformed ones that he has fulfilled the promises; a typical example of this evil was PDP spreading lies prior to the 2015 elections that they had fixed certain federal roads (specifically the PH-Owerri, PH-Enugu and Onitsha-Enugu roads) to very good standards and that they would do more if voted, meanwhile it was all a bloody lie to hoodwink the so called poor masses. Once again, politicians are all deceitful and it is left for a smart person to choose who he/she feels is a lesser evil. Nigerians were presented with 2 evils in 2015, one of which had been deceiving us for the past 16 years. It's a simple choice isn't it?.. except of course you are telling me the deceivers of 16 years were actually saints who didn't engage in this same deceit or mischief, then maybe I can reason with you. |
