mikeayus: Hello guys,
Please I need your input on the concept of oversizing panels.
I plan to get jinko 550w panel(s) with a 60A MPPT CC. My inverter is 12v 3000w off grid.
My concern is majorly if the 60A charger can efficiently charge 2 550w panels or I just stick to one.
All contributions to this will be highly appreciated. your 60A will do a good job. but if you plan to upgrade in the future you can just purchase another controller that all |

mikeayus: 12v 200a is very okay. you are already oversized already. you can decide to use am mppt (if funds permit) or a PWM controller. |

fatherbeeman: Pls which is better 2× 220ah tabular battery or 24v 100ah lifep04 battery... I need your advice? Both are the same. What is the configuration for the tubular battery? If it's 24v, it is the same capacity with the 24v 100ah. |

haslaw: Good morning gurus in the house,
A colleague had solar panels installed 3 years ago, now he wants to upgrade his solar panels but he's not sure of the type of panels (Mono or Poly) the last installer installed.
Can anyone tell what type and size of solar panels from these pictures? poly |

Kanmiboy: A great job u are doing on this thread . Pls like I how much should I budget to power the following . 1. 43" Sony Android tv 2. 1 DStv decoder 3. 3. Small ceiling fans but not use concurrently at all time. 4. LG home theatre but not always . Lightings not included cos I already have sunking for that . Tanks ahead for your response A budget of 850k-1m is reasonable for this load |

b0rn2fuck: yes running it continuously your battery bank is small. The Rita battery 100a is new. I probably it is why he over sized the panels. How many volts system? |

b0rn2fuck: My final quotation please, the guy price is 10k higher than the one I find online but I will discuss or negotiate with him, but I want to settle for this below, either I buy it little by little or once but I have 400k budget for this
microtek 1.7 kva (#90k,) Rita 100 amp battery x2 (#70 x 3) 250 watts panel x 4 or 300 watts x 3
I don't know about charging controller advice on the controller or the requirements above since I using for loads worth up to 1000 watts total, can't afford the 2.4 kva right now Your installer will be in a good position to determine. But am mppt will be more favorable since the 1000w load would be in the afternoon. On the second hand, the battery storage is too small to run 1000w. Are you running it continuously? |

jonescosmos: I tried a test selling recently, it went well but downside is that the Billing meters we have here in Nigeria are not provisioned for reverse energy flow. Thereby making it impossible for you to balance the energy traffic. Secondly, getting your pay for any excess selling might be a problem with the Nigerian power billers. So you might only be subtracting what you are selling back from what you purchased because it's prepaid. A perfect solar selling system comes with postpaid kind of setup where the energy company serves you a bill after deducting what you sold back and pays you if you sold in excess. I thought a Seperate energy meter is used to achieve this |

b0rn2fuck: he come up with this inverter and battery, I check on the inverter name it's microtek inverter, though the price online is 10,000 cheaper but I am worried about it's late response, I just want to know if the inverter and the battery are good Yes they are okay. One advantage of the inverter is, it can easily be fixed in case it has fault. Carry go. |

Lagosbynature: Thank you for this response, since I’m on a budget, I’m considering buying only a 300w or 350w panel, PHCN supply will supplement it.
I do not need the Panels to power my load while charging my battery anymore. I only need it to keep my battery charged during the day while I put my load on the inverter which will be connected to same battery.
I guess that makes sense?
Did i also mention my inverter is a inverter/ups, so it has inbuilt charger for electricity charging of any connected battery, it plugs to a wall socket. Yeah it does. 300w is sufficient enough to charge within 5hrs of sunlight |

benefitzte: @obnoxious2001 I have a 24v 2.5kva hybrid inverter with 2 x 220ah tubular batteries, 60a mppt cc and 6 x 230w Canadian solar panels. My installer told me I shouldn't allow d battery voltage displayed on the inverter to drop beyond 24.7v. The inverter also displays usage percentage. My question is, what are the parameters I should be looking at during usage in order to prolong my inverter system's lifespan?
Thanks in advance Your battery voltage mostly (I don't want to start mentioning Technical terms) There is what we call depth of discharge (DoD), this is probably the reason why your installer asked you to stay within range of 24.7v then charge controller charge rate. From experience, most inverter has a cut-off of 10.5 very few products like luminous (am not sure) has 11v (it translates to 21v and 22v respectively on a 24v system). But 24.7 is not yet up to 50%. I attached an image of various system sizes

Lagosbynature: This is my current setup
1kva 12v Mercury Direct Inverter/UPS
12v 100ah Battery
I charge it from wall socket via phcn/gen.
I want to switch to Solar and I want the solar to power my load during the day while or after charging my battery.
Heres my load
1. 170w laptop 2. 60w tripod light 3. 24watt fan 4. 100 watt for miscellaneous (phone charging etc.)
Note all of this will not be on power at the same time. Max, 1,2 and 3 load will be on power, making 254 watt max load simultaneously.
Q1. Can a 300-350watt mono solar panel power this during the day while charging my battery?
Q2. If the solar panel cannot power 250watt load, will the load fall to my inverter and battery whilst they continue recharging from solar?
Note: The mercury direct inverter/ups has inbuilt charger that charges my battery when plugged into a wall socket for phcn/generator If you want to go solar, You will be needing 4pcs of 300w to power your load continousky and charge your battery as well. A single 300w will charge a 100ah battery comfortably. The higher the panel watts, the faster the charge and the higher it's harvest Advantage is you can run all this load as long as there is sunshine (I used 8hrs as the run time) 2. Yes. The battery will compensate for the downtime the solar panels will face (it's very minimal and it depends on weather) |

fatherbeeman: Pls how good is starplus battery for 145k and Afriipower for 173k? Any better option? I was going to recommend afripower. For the inverter. For the battery, starplus isnt a bad option Just that you have to make provision for a Seperate external charger to charge the batteries (tubular needs deep charging) You can go for genus of you are considering tubular. |

b0rn2fuck: conversation between me and some selling and installing solar inverter system in my area, it's look cheap but I was worried about it capacity Price is okay(its within range for a 1kva 100A system) But generally wire is very expensive now. So my only concern is with the wire. You can ask him to mention products he plan using it you want to further audit the quality of the the estimate. He didn't mention somethings like changeover and accessories but there is provision for them from the estimate |
