Nice. I like the shape, good aerodynamics. It's compact which is what we need in cities like Lagos with limited available space for driving and parking. Smaller engine but how is the efficiency...

Tough luck for Nigeria. This is what you get when the inequality in the system becomes overwheming. I sincerely hope these issues are addressed asap before things really get out of hand
People in the upper echelons of society, the top 5%, are relocating their families out of Nigeria because they thinks things are going to get worse. If people whom are arm-in-arm with government are moving out their families not to suffer, I wonder what we are all doing here huh

And the rush to make him commit is why....?

He doesn't have plans for you. He's not going to say it aloud but he doesn't. He's got a lot on his plate (Medicine is not beans to study or practise in Nigeria), he may not quite have the same depth of feeling for you as you have for him (and for Pete's sake don't try and do anything to "tie him down"wink or he's just not that into you. I dunno, but what is clear is that he doesn't have plans for you, because he has told you with his mouth so you best believe him. And that is not a sin. 6 months at 21 years is pretty short. Give him some time like 3 more months and keep things casual. Don't put your heart into this, so if it doesn't work out, you're not devastated (you'll be hurt but not losing weight-crying-praying-fasting-overnight manhating-sorrow devastation wink). Keep yourself busy. If he changes his mind, great! If not, you dated for a year, learnt something new and are willing to move on afterwards.

Now, as for your other mature toasters, well it's upto you to decide if you wanna rush off from this guy and rush headlong into their arms (God knows why. You do realise you're going to spend the rest of your life wishing you were single, not a parent and free right? grin Reality101).

Don't sleep with anyone. Not unless you're sure you won't regret whatever happens afterwards (and I'm referring to your feelings).

Like for real. He's clean out of ideas. Plus, with the abysmal maintenance record set by LAGBUS, this is not an impressive thought. Why not improve waterways and give tax incentives to companies with staff buses and fewer private cars( so as to reduce traffic).

Silvofitz:
Anyone who wants to affect his generation must really have a large heart. There's no manner of insult I have not received since Tope's case came up.
It first started with the contact woman in Ibadan who was asked to verify Tope's case. Just because Tope was reluctant to see the woman, because they work in the same neighborhood, to avoid being tagged a destitute, the woman on sighting her began to say unprintable things about her, and her acclaimed "collaborators" who had recorded her voice to deceive Nigerians to make cheap money. The woman actually created a scene. Unknown to the woman, Tope had hidden her problem from everybody in her workplace, and had resolved to carry her cross silently, until we saw her and blew the alarm. The Ibadan contact woman even challenged me that I told Tope to stick to whatever lie I have told her to say if anybody asked her any question. She was openly disgraced. When she called me she was weeping profusely. I immediately called my wife to go see the woman. On getting there, my wife introduced herself, as a nurse in the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan,,and tendered her identity card. She then explained Tope's plight. And that Before recording her voice, that I warned Tope to say nothing but the truth, because the recorded video would be verified. That's what the Ibadan woman interpreted as instructing Tope to keep telling the lie we intended to use to defraud Nigerians. Before my wife came, the Ibadan contact woman had dismissed the Nairaland representative who had gone to her to verify Tope's claim. So, after listening to my wife, the Ibadan woman now had to call the Nairaland rep that the story was true.
Secondly, despite the fact that my wife showed them her ID card , and her unit, ward in UCH, the people still felt the whole thing could still be a scam.
Thirdly, now that the contact woman, and Tope's boss now knew she's a destitute, their perception about her changed. Before now Tope had carried herself with high esteem, dressed well, and never complained to anybody. So, the same Tope is even a destitute! They began to treat her with disdain. She regretted ever allowing her case being mentioned on Nairaland. She was better managing her case, risking her life, and sleeping in the cold. But her dignity, her self worth was intact. From the day she was openly embarrassed in her shop, she started missing some days at work.
Fourthly, when the rent was eventually sent, and she was told to look for an apartment, she never knew another bout of embarrassment was in the offing. I was really shocked last weekend after the failed attempt to see her boss, despite telling her I was coming from Lagos, and I told Tope to arrange with the woman against Sunday evening since I would be traveling back the following day. Tope called her in my presence, and you need to see how the woman shouted at her, and wondered why Tope would ask somebody to call her about the rent. That how much was the rent, and all that. And that Tope should come and pick her money the following day. I was shocked. I had only call the woman twice: first to book appointment with her to go see the agent with Tope, and second, to know if she was ready at the appointed time .
Sunday evening I traveled back to Lagos, and told Tope to feed me back on whatever happened. Tope called me on Monday morning that when she called the woman, it was the woman's child that picked the call, and the fellow started raining abuses on her. To them, how could such a rat, a destitute they now know, be calling their mother. The woman did not spare her when she was giving the phone, raining curses and abuses on the poor girl, and told her to come and pick the money.
On the sense of urgency that@ Jaybee3 mentioned, Sorry chief, you cannot take that from me. I'm trained to respond to emergencies, and urgently too. Coincidentally, I'm in the Accident and Emergency Unit in the Teaching Hospital. Life is fragile! When there's a situation, we respond quickly. Imagine, a patient has lost so much blood, and there's a willing blood donor. Why wouldn't one do everything possible to rescue the patient within the shortest time? I reiterate, the attitude of Tope's boss was lackadaisical! It wouldn't take a concerned fellow a whole week to go from Gate to Oje in Ibadan when the life of someone was on the line.
Tope was just unfortunate that the people who were to midwife her help were people who were very close to her. People who had thought she had the basic things of life, and respected her much, but now discovered she's just a destitute. People who had now seen her through and possibly wanted her to continue that way. If these Ibadan contacts have been neutral people, things wouldn't have turned this way.
Do I now regret blowing the alarm? Nay! Do I now regret calling people to help her? Nay! The lessons I have learnt in this scenario is worth the insults. But for @ Jaybee3 to say I have not contributed a dime to Tope's is far from the truth. I have many people like Tope around me, who take certain percentage of my income, and I don't have to announce on Nairaland. Last month, When a beast brutalized his wife in Ibadan, and I put it on Nairaland, Did I call Nairaland for hospital bill? Nay! When there was need for her to relocate to another town with her sibling, did I call Nairaland , for money to pack her load and pay rent for her and sibling? Nay! Since the day Tope was picked from the street, I personally appealed to my wife to let her move her things into our apartment. She obliged. She even told her to join her in the apartment, but Tope said she wouldn't want to disturb her. Tope comes into the house, play with the kids, and feel free. We are destiny helpers, in our own way. And we have many people like Tope receiving help from us. And we return the glory to God.
Now, that Tope doesn't work with the woman, has her world ended? Nay! God is the overall decider of man's fate. God holds our destinies. If God put a man's help in your hand, and you turn it down, God will raise a better help. Only God is indispensable. NO man can receive any help except God has decided to help such a man. LET ME CLARIFY HERE! I DID NOT TELL TOPE TO INSULT HER BOSS. I ONLY TOLD HER TO ARRANGE WITH HER SINCE I WOULDNT BE AVAILABLE.
I still wanna say, let's keep brightening the corner where we are. Let's keep putting smiles on people's faces. And let's keep doing our bit to help humanity. And in all, let's be clothe with humility. Kudos to you all. God bless you.
You kind of made it seem like this young lady had absolutely no help at all. You said she was desperate, yet everything was resolved in 2 days once money came out. Kind of like there was already a plan on-ground that just needed money. She had you and your wife's support, had somewhere to place her goods and could come to your home freely (yet, amazingly decided to bathe at a public stream rather than use the bathroom at your place huh). Hmmm lipsrsealed well I'm just thinking aloud.
All's well that ends well.

(I pity those in future who would truly be destitute and pathetic. I'm beginning to be cynical).

This is really presumptuous! I went to Ibadan Saturday, just to ensure that the issue of rent was sorted out this weekend since Tope said there was a vacant room somewhere. I called the woman that I was on my way from Lagos, and called Tope too to get ready so that the three of us would go see the agent. The woman said she was at a function at Olodo area of Ibadan, and that she would be through by 5:30pm. So, I proposed we meet at Gate since the proposed room is at Oje Area, very close to Gate. I told Tope to also call the agent to come to Gate around that time. By 5:30pm, the woman was not ready. And when I called around 6:00pm, she said she was just leaving Olodo, and that it was late for her to go see the agent. By that time I had seen Tope. I now suggested we meet after church service the following day, because I would have to travel back to Lagos that Sunday. The woman said she wouldn't be through with Sunday service until 5:30pm. At that point I told Tope to arrange with her. In my presence, Tope called her and told her she would come to her so that they would go see the agent on Sunday evening. The woman declined, and said if she needed her money she should come for it on Monday.

Well, I will appreciate if you guys could spare me some of these uncouth words. Or which one is whine, rigmarole , back and forth, chair barber, again? Abeg!
You have made a silly mistake. From the get-go, you have put a sense of urgency on a case that wasn't as urgent as you made it out to be. People have come here desperate to survive for the sake of their health and have not acted like this. Everyone here knew and could foresee how things would go. Which is why so many suggestions were made but you wanted it done your way and at your pace. If you felt the madam was not moving quickly, what stopped you from reporting here and asking the people in charge to take a look in the matter and sitting patiently for the weekend whilst they sorted out everything? What stopped you from asking Tope to inform the church and say that she had gotten help and all that was needed for the church to keep an eye on her for safety for a few days? Instead you encouraged Tope to go cause a scene to get the money. Short-term rewards when everyone was looking at long-term solutions! Did you forget she needs a job, that she needs people to help mediate in her custody case? Whom do you think is going to want to help out now that you have shown us you are willing to go to any lengths to get things done your way? Do you think anyone is going to ask a lawyer to get involved in this, pro bono (for free) only for you to go and ask Tope to cause a scene when you feel things aren't moving quickly? Do you think anyone will go and ask someone to help her with a job, seeing this behaviour?

Good luck to you and Tope.

With all the PMCs marriages are still breaking up left, right and centre.
Because the quality of counsellors may not be the best and the couple attending the counselling may not care about it and are only doing it for formality.

Sometimes when I read this Nairaland, I am always impressed by posters: how they have got their shi.t together! How they entered marriage so prepared! Knowing how to handle finances, family, delayed parenthood, loss of income, loss of a child, conflict, external pressures from work, differences in outlook and upbringing, stress from day to day living, infact how perfect they are. How can us mere mortals even dare aspire to such greatness.
I suspect people like TV01, Tearoses, Lewstherin, Thorpido had some sort of marital counselling whereby they learned a thing or 2, forgot the rest but were grateful that at least taking those classes forced them to discuss some things with their spouse. I took mine for 3 months, didn't like it at first but appreciated it later: every time Himself and I wanted to quit, we remembered how much time we had spent at those 2-plus hour classes and sat our butts back down. At least it taught us 2 things: conflict resolution is talking and not walking away and it is "our money".

in other words, there is still dignity in being a house maid. Those women/men that bully their house maid should take note.
More than enough dignity. A friend of the family had a maid for 2 years whose starting salary was N20,000. She was so good with the family that they increased her salary to N50, 000. When she left to get married and start her own family, her employees gave her a total sum of N450,000 as a thank-you gift and asked her to return when she could (she's back there). The other maid with her was acting like a typical Naija worker so that one got nothing.

It depends on how you view your job. Work diligently and hard and see if you won't get your reward.

Same thing in the U.S and U.K. Catholic churches were super friendly, priest would wait outside to greet parishioners, no special treatment for anyone. The catholic church actively campaigned against abortions and would place white crosses on the lawn to remember the souls of aborted children, they were pretty conservative. The Pentecostal church we went to served free coffee on your way in and showed videos of their missionary work in India and around the city. I joined their volunteer group (to feed rehabilitated people dinner). At least Catholic churches in Nigeria are still okay, ours when the priest is exiting Mass, he sometimes stop to bless people on his way out. Which makes it feel like a family church and very welcoming.

From one year old, a baby can take adult (cow) milk.

I read somewhere recently that babies below one can now take egg including the white part based on a recent research. How true is this?
cc:DrAda
It depends on the country. Europe is more accepting of these things than the U.S. so they are fine with babies eating the entire egg from 6 months. The reason that they used to recommend only the yolk was that the egg white sometimes caused an allergic reaction in some babies. But they realised that telling parents to wait to give eggwhite didn't matter because a child who eould react would react at any age. Personally, we've been eating the entire egg from about 8 months and all's been well. It's the same with things like meat and cheese as well (U.S. paeds will tell you wait till 8 months, U.K. peads will say it's fine from 6 months). But the best judge of the matter is the child: is he/she reacting to it? If not, all good. More importantly, that egg should be thoroughly cooked. HTH

Pls when giving our babies eggs, ensure its the yolk only. I didn't know and gave me DD eggs ( the white plus yolk) three weeks ago and 1 hr later she started vomiting, her eyes were red, big red rashes all over her body and she was itching real bad. We ended up going to the hospital & Dr said it was hives ("Urticaria, also known as hives, is an outbreak of swollen, pale red bumps or plaques (wheals) on the skin that appear suddenly -- either as a result of the body's reaction to certain allergens, or for unknown reasons" )
Anyway, no eggs here till she turns one.
Awww, she's allergic for now but most babies outgrow it by 1 or 2 years old.

Sometimes what you read on NL might not mirror reality, give anyone a mask and you will see their ugly side.

Sorry this might sound contradictory so let me explain, take me for example I am well behaved, mannered, and will never do anything to cause trouble for myself, however the anonymity gives me the power to say anything and avoid repercussions. Most of NL members will never say any of this things in real life because of effects and how they might be viewed. in actual sense, in reality you will not witness this much ugliness because it's supressed inside, not saying it doesn't exists.
I understand how the anonymity of the internet works, my dear. But my issue is, this is their inner feeling. And if given a chance, this is how they may react. But what is worse is that there are so many kids in this website, absorbing these views and not being able to distinguish between right and wrong (the Family structure and Society in Nigeria has really broken down). So these kids, these young man are being raised not by their fathers (little boys need their fathers) in real life positive interactions, but by random faceless people spewing hatefulness in the most anonymous way, irresponsibly.

I once had an interaction with some young boys (university level) who swore that D'banj was part of the Illuminati because they read it on the internet. It's easy for such uninformed minds to absorb "all women are evil and should be subdued by violence of necessary". There's no-one to say "Hey, that's not reality and those thoughts are not helpful".

Read any random page of any of the threads in the Ronke Shonde case: you will see a lot of male monikers screaming hate and praying she ends up in hellfire because they are following popular opinion from some commenters that she is guilty of adultery (without a single shred of evidence to the fact). Read the thread in the last who got beaten up by her husband for refusal of sex: you will see male monikers screaming "how dare she, she deserves it". Read the thread about the TVC reporter beating up his girlfriend: "is he her husband, how dare she try and break his career with her evil".

See a pattern?

In the next 5 years, if not checked, you will wake up and suddenly realise how dangerous it is to be a woman in Nigeria because things will be violent. Go to Mexico, Ciudad Juarez: several mass graves of women murderes by unknown people and a society filled with poverty, apathy and angry men who feel their egos are threatened by the fact that traditional roles are being changed (more earning power for women is changing things). Then look at Nigeria, are we not already having some of those issues?

Perhaps that is why the violence is coming much stronger. There was always violence but not this bad and not this accepted and celebrated by other men.

Same way, pornography came unchecked into Nigeria years ago (you would see them openly displaying dvds with graphic pictures at busstops) and data became and smartphones more affordable. That was a little over 10 years ago, in uni. Now, strangely rape and child abuse cases are now more common and on the rise.

You are what you consume. It is upto menfolk on Nairaland to be their brother's keeper or get used to being bashed as violent predators.

I speak up against women who do the same. At one point, I joined in and used to carelessly throw around words. But someone made me realise I was responsible for my anonymous words. That is the definition of an adult: someone who knows that have responsibilities, with no respite.

If Ronke was our daughter or sister, even if she was cheating, (which hasn't been proved) does she deserve to die?
Do these children deserve to be motherless and also now fatherless when he goes to prison?

It's scary. Because it means that any woman can be harmed based on an allegation. If my husband wants to inherit the portions and properties left to me by my family, all he need do is declare I was cheating after he has killed me and get away with murder. Not one single evidence of her supposed affair has come out, evidence of his has come out yet other men out there are angry that their brother is going to jail for killing an alleged adulterer. Guys are actually saying "May she roast in hell".

Confused bunch of new generation African boys... smh
You should be worried. These boys will want to marry your daughter. And with what I read on NL, I refuse to allow Baby E marry a Nigerian man. Because it's getting worse. This is how corruption started and no-one asked tough questions and it was left unchecked. Now it is a huge hydra-headed monster that cannot be killed. Same thing with our Family, Community and Menfolk. If men are truly the heads of the family, what does it say that infidelity, domestic violence, shifting of responsibility and blame, child rape and children out-of-wedlock are accepted nowadays. At the rate we are going, the next generation of women will be glad that their husbands only beat them once in a while. This is how India started, to the point where getting on a public bus became an invitation to rape, assault and Murder. This is how South Africa started and look at them now.

I am not demonizing men. But for God's sake, all you guys not worried when you read NL's frontpage? Is there no little part in your brain going "yeah, I love fighting in Family section's on-going Gender wars, but sh.it, the level of craze I see exhibited by a lot of men is getting frightening".

This is not about being emotional or because the deceased is female this is about facts. You being female are also being emotional as this happened to one of same gender but to me thats not being realistic. What most people just want to hear and read about is a man beats his wife and they want to hang him by his balls but nobody wants to know why he even got pushed to the extent of doing so... yes I said PUSHED because most men would never raise their handson their wives but women are in a league of their own when it comes to provoking reactions from men.

If the landlady testified of his quiet nature and he also said he loved the wife so much so that he even got her a car though yet enroute and if he said (without being coerced) that he slapped her under provocation then he is being somewhat honest if all that had been confirmed. His kids are old enough to say if daddy beats mummy often and if mummy was home all weekend.

All facts right now point that the husband isnt culpable because if he said he slapped her and the pathology report says his slap wasnt what caused the water in her head then he has no case. He would probably be taken for counselling and then released. HE IS A FREE MAN.
Screw emotions, let's talk facts.

Have you ever spoken to abusive people and their victims? I have. All the abusive people denied doing more than a slap or a push, even when confronted with evidence of their violence (one went so far to say the bruises on his wife was caused by her falling down the stairs and maliciously blaming him. Even with the black eye). So Lekan Shonde saying he "merely" slapped her is expected. So what explains the bruises on her body?

Have you ever been in trouble with the Nigerian Police? I haven't but I've read on this website how even following someone to the Polic station as a witness can result in you being detained until you "bail" yourself for a crime not committed. So the landlady (unless she lived with them) can easily say she saw and heard nothing. Who wants to get into trouble over murder?

Most men would never raise their hands against women. Okay but the problem is, whenever it happens, you man take it as if it is a challenge to ALL MEN and come out swinging in defence of your gender. I don't take anyone calling women a golddigger personally, but you take someone calling a man violent personally. And you dont see the problem with it.

Domestic violence is not about anger, it is about Control.

The victim's sister shared text/ whatsapp messages from Lekan Shonde where he was begging a friend to plead with his wife not to leave him after beating her and cheating on her and impregnating another woman outside his marital vows of faithfulness. And you men are not only willfully ignoring that information, you are accepting his allegations against his wife as FACT (without a single shred of proof, someone somewhere would have brought out something to show his wife was a cheat by now) and ignoring the PROOF and EVIDENCE of his violence in the past (his own words using his number and his wife's number to speak to her friend to beg her not to leave after the last beating and embarassment of having his pregnant mistress come to his home and confront her). So what is the reason for that?

I have spoken to some respected lawyers about this case and they said (from the information they have), Lekan Shonde is already guilty of Battery (the autopsy found Contusions/Bruises on her and most likely they were fresh as at the time of death and the accused cannot say that he wasn't the one who beat her) and the autopsy is to determine if he is also guilty of Manslaughter or Murder. So sorry, he's not walking free. And one of those lawyers is a SAN. The least of those lawyers has practised Law for 10 years. So they know the Law better than all of you.

Respiratory seizure means she couldn't breathe normally on her own and it caused her death. It is not a final report because something caused it (yes I asked a Doctor. See how I'm backing up my words with facts? You should try it sometime). So what caused her to stop breathing? Until the autopsy report is signed by the Chief Examiner, no-one knows. But her death was most likely caused by trauma. So your "hero" Lekan Shonde better start figuring out what he is going to say to explain himself.

"Water in her brain"/Hydrcephaulus has only 3 causes: either she was born with it, either she developed it after 50 years of age or Severe head trauma. The victim isn't over 50 and the symptoms of Hydrocephalus would have been noticed from birth (and she won't have lived this long if she had it). But yeah, let's ignore facts so you can make stuff up to suit your narrative.

But the fact that some of you guys are accusing her of dying due to stress from illicit lovemaking with her alleged lover, is disgusting. And has no basis in proof unless she had an existing condition.

You may clap for yourself if he goes scotfree but remember, the young generation of men who are reading your comment and seeing all this, now know that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, stopping them from beating up any female they feel is not towing their line (it won't matter whether or not reason is involved). And those young man will date and marry your daughter, your nieces one day.

So all the best. Because when that day comes and you're standing over your daughter's grave whilst he husband claims she allegedly cheated and gets away with her murder, remember this: you defended other killers in your youth.

If NL women were as irrational, then there would have been more murders of husbands in Nigeria. All the women stabbing their husbands to death or burning them to death would have been justified. We would soon have more cases of husbands been poisoned to death by their wives for cheating.
I still can't understand why anyone supports violence against someone else
Because she's a woman. And in their eyes, women are nonsense if they're not towing the line. So it's okay in their eyes to beat and kill her. Look at how many of them have slapped their girlfriends and wives, in order to "correct" her and ask them if they have slapped their younger brothers and male cousins in order to correct those ones and see the difference in their replies.

Meanwhile when that lawyer stabbed her husband to death, and she alleged that he was cheating she was still blamed and called a jealous murderess.

Anyway 1 finger pointing and 4 pointing back

They all have sisters and female relatives.
My dear, it is baffling. Sometimes, I think that some female posters in Family section are being too shrieky and overwrought, that it's not that bad. Then a case like this comes up and you see it was actually worse than they imagined and their anger was totally justified.

Water in the head... grin

I'm sure that's cerebral oedema. Which could really be from head injury/ trauma to the head.
See, even if there is a video of him doing it, Nairaland boys won't see him as guilty. He has claimed that she was cheating and that is enough for them: she deserves to die.

Which means any husband out there can murder his wife and simply claim cheating and walk away as long as his jury is made up of Nairaland boys. And think of the sheer volume of Nigerian men on this website...

When this Man said God was his witness u all mocked him saying God should come down n do the witnessing. God is still God. Am so positive that this man is innocent. And if truly he is, no matter wat it will only take time he will be out as a free man once more.
Wow, did you just praise God for this man? Respiratory Seizure means she stopped breathing due to lack of air. Like in Strangulation or Suffocation or Severe Head Trauma. He said he thought she was faking it when he saw her after the beating, not knowing she had lost conciousness and died. He's getting Murder or Manslaughter due to Battery charges at him most likely.

I guess what you worship does not agree with "Thou shall not kill'.

Tearoses, he most likely choked her and thought she was faking it but she had passed out and didn't wake up again. But even if there was video of him doing that, once he claimed she was cheating, Nigerian men would allow him go scot-free. Even with no evidence of her cheating, her dead body and evidence of his beating and abuse and cheating on her, he is still innocent in their eyes and the dead lady is a bad wife.

And that's why Baby E is marrying a white guy cool

quote author=Onegai post=45744983]Rofemiguwa, it will clear by itself. It's probably just hormonal from baby adjusting to so much stuff. if you're using Johnson's baby wash, stop and switch to Aveeno, Sebamed or Dove Pure and Sensitive
I'm not crazy about Cussons personally but if that's what you want to use, that's fine. The rashes will clear up.

The reason that the WHO and doctors recommend 6 months of breastfeeding is because of all the nutrients and immunity your baby gets, in exactly the right portions he needs, from breastmilk. He cannot process other foods well, even if he takes it.
