PoliticsRe: Has Charles Taylor Escaped? by ono(m): 4:37pm On Apr 04, 2006
So, you see, Taylors ''surfacing'' at a Northern border town between Nigeria and Cameroon was actually orchestrated by OBJs boys - the State Security Services, under OBJs watchful eyes.

When the noise about Taylors escape was getting too much, and might jeopardise OBJs third terms agenda and ''runs'', OBJ knew the game was up for Taylor and he had to be ''released'' to those who want him.

So, from the moment he stepped his foot out of Calabar, till when he was caught somewhere far away in the North, Taylor was actually being teleguided by OBJs boys. So, what's the fuss about congratulating OBJ for a job well done in ''capturing'' Taylor on his way out of the country?

@toshmann,
OK, I went too far, but I really meant something like all those who have a hand in depriving innocent women children and people of Africa, generally, of their peace and prosperity should be fished out and punished severely.

Reading through the lines from the link posted(several other newspapers carried thesame story), it's glaring to all that OBJ buckled under pressure to release Charlie boy! By sending the man away from Calabar, and the claim that he was betrayed (not minding what OBJs basketmouth said), one can safely conclude that there was some kind of sinister motives on OBJs part for keeping Taylor in Calabar.

And I know that gradually, all the evil leaders in Africa will one day face judgement, terrible judgement for their evil deeds.

We have a twist to how Taylor escaped from Calabar and was re-arrested in the North.

http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=44628

I have said this before that OBJ has a hand in that guys escape from Calabar. He only buckled under pressure to get Charlie boy back, when the US threatened to upset his third term ploys. Ordinarily, he would have allowed Taylor to go without any hitch. GL and co, I have said that we should just watch as events unfold, before we make any conclusion.

Taylor should be punished for his ignoble acts against humanity in Liberia and Sierra-Leone. But his collaborators in other African nations(including Nigeria - OBJ in particular) hiding under any guise should be fished out and summarily sentenced to death.

Kola,
You know, one problem with many Nigerians today is the ''fear of tomorrow'' They forget that today holds enough problems for all to grapple with, and thus, think much about tomorrow and all its problems.

I will respond to your post in the light of the above. I don't think the Igbos give a dime whether they were able to feed themselves yesteryears or tomorrow, what they want is equity and justice, fairplay and the rule of law in every facet of their life as Nigerians. Thesame problems we had as a nation that led to the Biafran War at the time is what we're still battling with today. It's still with us, that's why the majority of the Igbos will rather secede than stay in one forced relationship called Nigeria.

That we will fail as a country if any tribe secede is baseless. As far as I'm concerned, we've already failed as a Nation, so why worry if one ethnic grouping feels like opting out? The rest of the other tribes will survive, somehow. We survived before we were all lumped together to form Nigeria in 1914, what makes you think we will not survive if we part ways at this time?

A situation whereby all the ethnic groups are into a kind of forced relationship where sentiments reign supreme is not worth staying in. And this relationship gets worst when some ethnic groups believes they are born to rule while the others are supposed to serve them.

The worstest of them all is when several ethnic group team up against a supposedly weak one to deprive them of their God-given resources by promulgating ethnocentered laws and operating a quasi-federal system of government where these groups feeds fat on the proceeds from a region other than theirs - such as we have in the Niger Delta.

We will not fail if we secede as a nation. But if we do not want secession, then we should operate a truly Federal system of government that will at most meet the needs and yearnings of the component ethnic groups in the country.

celemel:
shocked Charles Taylor, hiding under the pseudo-name "Henry Brown" is owing the Water Board in Calabar, a bill debt of N18, 000. 00.  He refused to pay up, after several threats and disconnection.  He has therefore left the land, with this unrecoverable debt hanging on his neck.  This is very painful, considering the fact that he denied the ordinary people of Liberia, safe drinking water; he even denied some of them the 'mouths' with which to drink.  Right here in Calabar, the Water Board supplied him with pure, clean, potable water, round-the-clock, 24/7 yet he refused to pay the bill.  That he escaped in the night, travelled thousands of kilometers by land, was put on the run and has been caught is good riddance to bad rubbish.  Other people who take delight in killing and maiming innocent people just because they hold d levers of power should learn a lesson from this.  In life, you can run but you cannot hide.  My question is, what happens to those assets including Trailers, Ships, Aircraft, Houses, Farm, Jeeps (the best of their kind) and so many other things he amassed and kept here in Calabar?   cool
Hmn, interesting question from celemel. But, have you ever thought of OBJ and his households using Charlie Boy as a front for keeping such luxurious goods in Calabar? How could he have amassed so much goods to himself without OBJs aid?

I have said it before now and I will repeat it anywhere that OBJ is the most corrupt ruler Nigeria has ever had.

Men, these are indeed interesting times. Chineke help us.

Say whatever you like, do whatever you want to do. I don't believe in OBJ administration. It's full of evil and good. Too much rubber stamp works, evil doers on the prowl. Corruption in high places. Cheating, gangsterism, ghana-must-go bagism, ethnic bigotory etc etc etc.

And there's this third term thing looming larger than life to butress my points!!

Just watch out, this Taylor capture is a short-term relief news. He will escape again. Trust me. And when he does, Sirleaf will be worse for it.

PoliticsRe: Has Charles Taylor Escaped? by ono(m): 8:05am On Mar 29, 2006
Much as I agree with GL and Vongauche's ''total picture'' analysis, I believe this Taylor's escape should teach Nigeria a lesson. Viewing the whole matter from a different perspective entirely, I believe Nigeria should, indeed, have focused more on tackling local problems rather than interfering in other countries' internal affair.

We've had quite a number of very gory ratings recently; from being amongst the poorest countries in the world, to the most corrupt and then to the country with the highest number of happy people in the world! So, when we set out to send innocent people out into other country in the name of peace keeping efforts, we should at times remember that we ought to remove the log in our eyes first before trying to remove other people's own.

Many young Nigerians are unemployed. They cannot feed thrice a day. The harsh economic situation in the country calls for serious concern, but our all-knowing Presido would rather globetrot the whole world from Chile to Russia and China to Canada looking for what only he knows. We like playing the ''big country'' a lot. And that has led us to where we are today. If OBJ had allowed Charles Taylor to stay this long in Calabar, without escaping, why is it now that the heat is on the guy that security details to this man would be withdrawn, some 24hours to when he's supposed to be handed over? This is from intelligence reports. Besides, I heard Taylor is somehow an inlaw to OBJ, - I don't know how true that is, but if it is, then I would not doubt OBJ having fore knowledge of the man's escape.

At a time when the Niger Delta people are lacking basic amenities of life, and oil is taken daily to grease FG's purse, OBJ prefers looking outside to help other countries of the world. I think whatever insult we receive as a nation on this Taylor's escape serves us right.
PoliticsRe: Has Charles Taylor Escaped? by ono(m): 5:50pm On Mar 28, 2006
No doubt, OBJ has a hand in that mans escape. He will be caught, whether OBJ likes it or not. Stupid man.

Taylor missing from Calabar home
Liberian warlord and war crimes suspect Charles Taylor is reported to have disappeared from the haven Nigeria had granted him just as he was to have been handed over to face trial. Reports say Taylor disappeared Monday night from his villa in the southern town of Calabar. Last week, Nigeria agreed to surrender him to stand before a U.N. tribunal on charges related to civil war in his homeland and its neighbour Sierra Leone, but the logistics of his handover had not been worked out. A government statement said that President Olusegun Obasanjo was creating a panel to investigate "the disappearance on Monday night , of Mr. Charles Taylor, former Liberian leader, from his residence in Calabar." The statement raised the possibility he might have been abducted, but did not elaborate on that. A presidential spokeswoman said members of Taylor's Nigerian security detail had been arrested. The presidential statement offered no details on how Taylor's disappearance was discovered or whether he was being hunted. Dozens of people who had been living with Taylor in the villa in a walled government compound had left Monday and were flying to Lagos en route to an unknown destination.

PoliticsRe: Niger Delta: What Is The Problem? by ono(m): 5:35pm On Mar 28, 2006
demmy:
Excerpt from Shagari's interview in Vanguard that shed light on Niger Delta crisis.

Q - One other contentious issue concerns revenue allocation, especially on the issue of derivation. Incidentally, it was during your administration that another 20 percent was shaved off the derivation. Now we have a major crisis in the Niger Delta; how can we share our resources so that there can be equity and justice, and everybody is satisfied?

Well, it is not easy. My own point of view is that what caused the problem is oil money. Without oil, we would have gone a long way as far as running the government is concerned, and particularly in the case of revenue allocation. It was a military government, not my own, that reduced the shares of the states, particularly, the oil-producing states, in the belief that the offshore oil should belong to the federation. In some way, they were right. But that caused a lot of complaints. Secondly, even if the Federal government did not take that which accrues from the offshore, the nature of the oil-producing area, that is the Delta, is a very difficult situation. With all the money in the world, development there is very, very difficult, because of the nature of the environment there. And you can spend the whole money accruing from oil without bringing the Delta people to the position of, say Lagos state or Oyo state, because of the geographical and environmental situation.

And without people really trying to play politics in the case of oil, the share (of oil revenue), which was given to the people in the Delta before was not enough. Still, it has been reviewed from time to time, and the people have received a bit more, each time. I think, that is much better progress than trying to cause trouble in order to starve non oil-producing states. It is always my belief that you can do things in a civilised way, and achieve what you want.

All we can do is to tell the people of the Niger Delta to be a little more patient. And with each increase they get, the more progress they make. But they should also remember that the mineral wealth is a federal matter. Although every state has its own share, the federal government is in control. So this is the problem, and it will continue like this until people really begin to think, not just of the small area they inhabit, but of the entire country. The interest of the country is paramount to everybody else's. But it is difficult for our people to realise that. Even so, on the sharing of oil revenue -- despite all the increases they have been getting of recent -- there is hardly any development going on there! You want to see what they have achieved with what has already been given to them. But you can't see much when you go there. That is the problem!

Q - The people of that area believe, especially from what happened at the National Political Reforms Conference, that the North has not shown sufficient sympathy to their cause, given that that area usually supported the NPN and the North.

Yes I agree! That is the impression that they got. But unfortunately, in my opinion, it was due to the way they approached the whole issue. Both sides were wrong, in my opinion. Each side tried to be very selfish, and not accommodate the other. And it does not augur well for our country, at all. It is a matter of give and take, and of tolerance. That is why I have taken the initiative after this quarrel between the South-South and the North, to bring them back together.
And you think someone like Ono will swallow all these craps from Shagari? Think again demmy, think very well o, before you get misled by some old and outdated politician like Shagari.
