Romance › Re: Make Una See Me See White Maga. by Outstrip(f): 6:35am On Feb 15, 2010
I think the guy actually likes you. I honestly believe that he talked to some Nigerians and they told him that Nigerian girls will prefer money to a gift. A white guy will not give money to a girl that they like. It is against everything their culture stands for. You did the right thing by refusing it. The fact that he asked around before he bought a gift is thoughtful. if you like him hang around and see how he came to the conclusion that money was an appropriate gift to give
Family › Re: Bathing A New Born Baby. . . by Outstrip(f): 10:02pm On Feb 14, 2010
I actually saw my friend go through this whole ritual of bathing her baby "the nigerian way". I did not want to shout that that was stupid but when it got to the point that she would leave the baby exposed for almost 30 minutes at a time pressing him here and there, poking in his ears, molding his head and facial features and the baby eventually started breathing funny from exposure I was convinced that she was mentally unstable. LOL. In all seriousness there is absolutely no medical benefit to using baby oil or any kind of oil versus good ol soap and water. The baby does not develop and odor or all the other stories that have been passed down.

What would I do. Hmm. For his own good that slap would have to knock me out long enough for him to get a visa and move to an unknown destination. Honestly it will be worse for him than if someone stole from me. I would not even tell my family because then he would be dead but he will definitely get a chance to use his muscles that day
Family › Re: Troubled Marriage by Outstrip(f): 9:55pm On Feb 14, 2010
I wonder who the man is sending to spy on the woman and why the man believes this to be true. While she is supposedly out galavanting around who is watching the kids? My friend is here now with her husband but she will be the first to tell you that she was gone most days till 9pm. She lived with her parents with her boys and her husband more than took care of them financially but she is not the idle type. She was getting her degree in dentistry, she volunteered at her church and she also ran a business that kept her out a lot. If he came from a family that were nosy and out for trouble she would no doubt have been labelled a LovePeddler. Just my opinion. Nobody really knows what's going on
Family › Re: Do You Actually Need A Househelp? by Outstrip(f): 9:33pm On Feb 12, 2010
Tsiya:
It is not a question of affordability, rather it is about cheap labour. Despite all your numerous household chores, if the living standard in Nigeria is better than what we have today, and we have good labour laws such that there is minimum wage, then only very few people will afford housemaids. People are just using the excuse of cheap labour to subject other people to untold hardship.

I do not mind employing an elderly woman as a househelp or nanny. But we all know that in Nigeria, in many cases, the housemaids, mostly girls, are minors. Some are even our relatives. And it is not new that these girls are subjected to hardship. You employ only one house girl. Pay her 3000 a month. She will do cooking, cleaning, ironing, taking care of kids and going on errands. Some are just slavery and in some cases these poor souls get a bitten of their lives.
My cousin pays between 10 and 15 grand a month and I thought that was not even enough. I think at the end of the day it is still a want and not a need. My mother never had any. She and my dad pretty much raised us by themselves and we grew up for the most part in Nigeria. I think that is part of the reason why we are independent and very opinionated lol. We have always made decisions for ourselves.

The one with the Nigerian guy is very touching but it makes more sense to me than the other guy. I hope they both find peace

I think he is manic depressive and going through an episode or something. He can have the money invested somewhere and still live like he makes only $50,000 a year. I don't get it

^^^ i dont think you're getting the point here. how do you expect the career woman to juggle all that responsibility? most of those british women are probably full time housewives, those working amongst them have reliable and housekeeping services. i personally dont advocate the use of househelp, but there are times that it becomes necessary.
Not true. That's just the way of life. You work your full time job and raise your kids with zero help and that is why the men tend to be more involved here in the west becasue it will be almost impossible to do it and remain sane. If the help is needed I say go for it but we all do it outside of Nigeria and it is not really the best arrangement especially for the kids.

PS there is a bini woman here that has 5 children and she is a school teacher. A few evenings a week she also teaches in a local college. I don't know how she manages but she does. She's married to an American and her older son is very helpful too

Greener pastures in Yemen? Ojigbi! jigbi!! jigbi!!! What is green about Yemen?
Please abeg I just coughed milk into my nose laughing at this

Certainly for many, Yemen will be better for them than what they have back home. There are many Nigerians everywhere even in Somalia. And certainly. Despite all the Negative news of Yemen, their economy is certainly better than many African countries

It's the same thing. I have seen our prints made in Nigeria and I am sorry to say the quality from Akosombo is so much better. They simply need to step up. They cannot force people to wear that crap.
Fashion › Re: Na Wa O: 85% Of Textiles Sold In Nigeria Are Smuggled Into Country ! by Outstrip(f): 6:43am On Feb 11, 2010
I have seen the prints that come out of Nigeria. I will not even touch them. Maybe they have improved significantly but I doubt it since we are talking about Nigeria. It is against the law to bring any kind of fabric to sell in Nigeria but all the politicians wives have the recent most expensive laces. Puhlese. Leave people alone
Celebrities › Re: Nigerian Women Please Pray For Stella Damasus by Outstrip(f): 6:29am On Feb 11, 2010
Well I feel that God has a special punishment for people who say things like they did about her. The affairs is one thing but to insinuate that she killed her husband is beyond reason. People please remember that you reap what you sow and people who do not even believe in God will tell you Karma is a bitch or what goes around comes around. You can't say sh-i-t like this and think you will just go on your merry way. This woman has been through hell in the last couple of years and I think her dad just passed away recently and while she is trying to pick up the pieces of her life people start to say these sort of things about her. How much can one person take really

These are movie actresses are quite outstanding in their careers. They have contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood. Though some of them are naturally light in complexion, they have in one way or the other boosted their natural complexion by using skin-toning creams. NollywoodReel writes about some of these talents who have toned their skins.

This is actually a ghanaian website but they are just as bad if not worse when it comes with the obsession with light skin

There is need and there is want. Technically you don't need a car. You can wake up at 5 am and start walking and get to work by 9am. So does she really need a maid to survive probably not. Does she need a maid to make things run more smoothly most likely

So he does not spend his money and yet he wants to make you lose your job so that you guys will live off of what? You need to start putting money aside for yourself and I don't necessarily think it is an issue to let your husband know how much you make as long as he is completely open with his own money. You are still young in the marriage anyway so you are probably still learning how to deal with each other. I just feel like you are starting a behavior that you will not be able to keep up. Just because he says it does not make it right. I have never heard of where a man makes money but puts nothing towards anything. You need to wake up

The story sounds like there is a huge space in the middle to be filled in before it makes complete sense. Why after 13 years is this now eating at you. The first mistake you made was telling him to have sex with other women because you were a virgin. What the heck? That was over 13 years ago though. What is the real issue. You are holding back something
I really hate it when people elect to wash their dirty linens in public! Aha for goodness sake what on earth are you hoping to gain by bringing what is obviously a private affair into the public domain? At the end of the day NL people will wipe the floor with your dad, is the counsel they are going to give really worth the public disgrace you are going to be getting as well? How many of the people you are soliciting advice from are posting their own private malaise on NL?
I'm sure there are more experienced people in your family you can relate to without bringing shame on your dad and ultimately a curse on yourself! At the end of the day he is still your dad, none of the people on here are your friends or loved ones
You see how slow you are? Do you know her? Does anybody here know her?
