A long review.....pardon 🙏🏿

I have been feeling quite overwhelmed lately that i have basically just mentally tapped out off seeing movies/series and i think i barely scraped through just about 3 movies all October, Terrible terrible form 😩, but when i saw this popular urban legend coming to the big screen i had to obliged.
Billed as a 2 part affair or episodes if you will, so i am hoping this review falls within the purview of this thread.

This first part/episode was really really good as a pace setter and i am quite surprised how well put together the writing and character development was, it clearly showed, some really serious people were in charge.

Madam Koi Koi mythology is not a new tale, if you were born in the 70s, 80s, 90s and even to some extent, Gen Z, will totally be able to relate to it. This retelling had our central character, Amanda, changed school, to a Catholic boarding school in the fictional town of Malomo in the 90s, as she begins her sojourn in this new school, she keeps being jolted by a nightmare, of a certain unnamed horror with "a red koi koi" shoe, lurking in the shadows , and we are quickly reminded, why we are here and things are definitely not as they seem in this school and indeed the town.

I know i have praised the writing, but the acting and delivery was equally top notch, only a few known faces, but the newbies stole the show!. There was a rape scene, that was so well acted that i had to actually fast forward it at the time, because of how true to life and grossly disturbing it was! Impeccable acting!

As with Nollywood movies set in the olden times, continuity error always seems to rear it's ugly head, and i was on the look out for one, and they almost didn't disappoint, the setting, props, Clothing style fit the era it was set, being 70' to 90's. The pulled out a fresh "tortoise" car and i was wondering were they got one, so pristine lol. The students especially the girls, on first look, looked over age to play teenagers in sec school, but then again these are, how mature, girls used to look in sec school back then, i have my mum's sec school photos to confirm 😃, so props to the casting crew. The little blot, was when one character used a popular phrase that only came out in real life about 2 years ago, so there's no way it is been said in a movie supposedly set in the 90s, i voiced out my concerns to the lead actress on X (formerly known as Twitter) and she duly replied and said it was rather anachronism and not a continuity error, it seemed a rather convenient answer but i allowed it because of how good the other continuity props were.
And, also it was billed as horror, and one of the new genres Nollywood is exploring, but they are still piss poor at it, the jump scares in this were so minimal and scaled to zero, it rather made the whole thing look like a drama, but then again, horror movie makers here are still relying heavily on make up to bring that horror flair because VFX use is still alien here, and i know horror make up can be quite expensive and only few make up/costume studios offer such services, but i would really love them to up the horror ante in the next part .

Even though they already promised that it was a 2 part affair, i was kicking myself when it ended abruptly as things were kicking into proper gear.
Thank goodness the next part isn't too far away.

For now, this is a great intro that seems to stick a decent landing in what they were trying to do, so on to the next one.

I can't help you with that mann. The movie is a television movie and as such it didn't have a big screen wide release so meaning it is an extremely rare find, seeing this first part alone is even difficult. I guess you would have to go on YouTube and search for it, if you really want it, it will be buried deep within there.

The deal Roderick and the sister made with Verna was that, They can have all the money they want, but the day they die, the rest of the Usher bloodline is wiped out with them. Now whilst the granddaughter didn't really do anything or have any bad habits per say, she is a bloodline of the Usher, hence, besides it's in the Bible i think, "The iniquities of the father will be passed down even to the 3rd and 4th generations".


As for the Verna been real or not, like i have stated in my previous post, Mike Flanagan will explicitly not call a "Spade, a Spade" in It's works and open certain elements of them to debate, so if you y'all think she was real, it is okay and there are points that allude to the fact.

As at beginning of Episode 5, where I was when I made that post, they were unsure of what she was.

It's all about perspective. They thought she was a relative of the woman they met 40 years ago. It was at episode 6 they were sure that it's the same person when they saw pictures dating back on 1901

We the viewers know that sending out her pictures wouldn't change anything...
But as at then, the characters did not know that...

This is the part that for some reason you refuse to comprehend...
It is called perspective


At the time of 2 and even 3 deaths, they thought she was someone simply trying to destroy them and they put out a hit for her. I'm talking episode 4 and early episode 5

At that time the rational thing to do was send her pictures to warn them...but they did not and it made absolutely no sense

Your problem is that you are looking at it only from your perspective as a viewer and not as characters...


When watching a movie or a show you are meant to look it things from two perspectives...

1. An independent viewer who has overall knowledge
2. The perspective of characters...

How can you evaluate a character or their choices if you don't look at issues from their perspective?

I'm tired of explaining basic things to you...

The fact is that their actions as characters make no sense...

Yes we as viewers know that there was nothing to be done that would have stopped this...but the characters do not know that...

And that is why the characters have been making awful decisions...

The decision making of these characters have been nothing but utterly stûpid...

Again and Again, "The woman appearing in all those places where the children died or just as they are about to die" is a figment of imagination!, a physical representation of "karma", The woman wasn't really there!. It's their conscience and the deeds their father committed that is toturing them just before they die!. Roderick and Madeleine seeing the woman been the same through the years looking exactly the same, is a play on the audience to decipher if Verna was real or not, and they clearly fooled you. They both knew what was happening, and why it was happening, and they knew warning the kid's wouldn't help, they only thing they could do was to try to "fix" karma and that's what got Pym involved.


But pls believe all you want to believe.

It's not about whether she killed them or not. The deaths appear to be accidental/supernatural but the father and his sister have made a connection to her.

She made contact with all 3 siblings just before their deaths. She posed as a guard to a lab when she was not on the list. She has been snapped, captured by cameras etc.

The father and sister have even put out a hit on her cos they traced her to a bartender they met 40 years ago...

They even specifically asked for her eyes to be plucked out and brought to them.

But somehow they did not think to at least warn their remaining kids alive by sending them her pictures?

Yes, they don't wanna talk about that night in 1980 but they don't have to. Just send her pictures and warn them.

That's super obvious.

That doesn't change the fact that the deaths seem supernatural...
But common sense dictates you warn your children to stay off her first.

The Characters not doing that is pure stûpidity that only exists in TV shows but never in real life

From the Edgar Allan Poe book's it was adapted from, "The Raven" was a like punisher for sins, a retribution for an evil committed, it might take days, months, years or even centuries for it to come, but it will surely come.

The "Woman's name" was "Verna" which Mike Flanagan carefully made as an anagram of "The Raven" from the source material. Simply put, why not explicitly stated, "The woman*, is a supernatural entity that simply only exists within the consciousness of the "The Usher Family" and Pym because he is connected to them and shares from their sin, You didn't seem to wonder why she is the same from the pictures through all those centuries ago and didn't age a bit?. So sum up, "She wouldn't show up any camera", more security won't save them either" because she is "karma" and within the laws of the universe, you can't escape it. How will sending them pictures of her, helped? Now why Roderick and Madeline seem to be so sure, that she was the one, they saw at the bar that faithful night, is their conscience pricking them, saying they can't get get away with such heinous crime, without any repercussions, and they eventually just made a deal with "themselves" to live life to the fullest even Karma comes for them, or their children, and Madeline quickly agrees. They even admit to be fuzzy about the event of that night and claimed it didn't happen. All those apparitions that Roderick was seeing were delusions resulting from inherited dementia fueled by years of Ligadone abuse.

Again the ending would have pretty cleared up your concerns but you like to rant.

I'm at episode 5 and I'm wondering why TF they have not sent the picture of that woman to all members of the family that avoid her.

How can two people die and the only connection is one weird woman that approached them and you still haven't sent the picture to the rest of the family.

The third one has died now...and they have more and more clear pictures and still won't send it.

Instead they simply just added a security guard to stay outside their houses. TF is this?

You most likely don't understand the show yet or aren't familiar with the source material because as at episode 5, has anything she has done so far seem like what a "normal human" would do? If No, how will avoiding her help?. and if you are paying close attention, she hasn't actually "killed" any of them yet, it's Karma and their guilty pleasures doing the work, she is just the harbinger.

Maybe see the entire show to gain some form of perspective and clarity.

Yep. It is small because it is a mini series with about 6 episodes with 36 minute runtime. Each episode is like 400mb.

Of all the four Martin Scorsese films I've watched, "THE WOLF OF WALL STREET" remains my absolute favourite. Funny how they all feature Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead actor.
Other films being: The Departed, The Irishman, Gangs of New York.

THE BLACK BOOK --- 4.5/10

A movie with an in-depth, relatable story that joined its colleagues at the sacrificial altar of poor execution, thanks enormously to;

* Poor emotional weight
* Unappealing musical scores
* Fake or plastic actions
* Fake and laughable explosions
* Sacrilegious gunshots
* Poor actings even for RMD and Sam Dede
* Ridiculous mining scene CGI... everyone knows that was a board behind the insider.
* Lack of tension and curiosity
* Dry and boring storytelling.

In summary, $1M (if the reports are true) --- approximately one billion naira --- was flushed down the toilet. Back in days, I used to state that the problem of Nollywood wasn't lack of funds, but rather lack of creativity in storytelling or execution. I was vehemently opposed, but it seems our Nollywood brethren are making me a prophet.

I have a lot to say, but let me shut the fück up before I will be termed, UNPATRIOTIC. Next on my list, SHE Must Be Obeyed.

The Equalizer 3 2023

Unnecessary three peat

When part one of this came out in 2014, it totally blew me away, with the performance of probably my best black actor and one of my fave actor, in the end, despite how good that was, one particular thing stuck out, that it ended well and it was a classic one off flick. Imagine my shock when they announced a sequel, and i wasn't surprised that it was insipid af! Now imagine my further shock, when they announced a 3rd part!

I gave it a concern barely because of Denzel and maybe i shouldn't have even bothered. All the "lone army" stunt that made the first part hold sway where almost completely gone, it just descended into an unnecessary Italian mob story that frankly no one asked for. For a supposed action flick, the action scenes were like 20%. It doesn't even help that the entire dialogue was 70% in Italian, making me further disconnect from the story or make any logical sense of the story they were trying to cook.

Denzel for just rest fgs😩😩, it doesn't make him any less of a very fantastic actor than he already his, he just needs better materials to work with than this trash. If you have data to waste, and you are probably preparing for an exam in Italian monologue, then you can risk it, other than that, i will suggest you look elsewhere and save yourself the hassle.
