majesticguy:Maan..The $1m most likely went to the color grading and serènrèn cinematography 😄, "Brotherhood" was marginally better than this, but even that also suffered from the same fundamental flaw of repeated or haphazard script writing. Brotherhood followed the tout/agbero/omonilè template, you wouldn't believe what happened next!, The same filmmaker took the same exact template and basically repeated it a mere few months later, and here is where it gets annoying, she sold the rights to the same streaming platform, and this time called it "Gangs of Lagos" 😩, and that's not even the kicker, she went further to use the same lead, "Tobi Bakre" in both 😩. I basically can't tell these movies apart. My friend that is a sound engineer worked on the score of both, told me that the "Gangs of Lagos" project, was the easiest money he has made, he basically just tweaked the score from "Brotherhood" a little and pasted it in "Gangs of Lagos and called it a day 😩. Imagine my "shock" Africa Magic announced a new IP show weeks back, and named it "Slum King", no prizes for guessing that it is still the Agberó/Omonilè template 😄 and you wouldn't believe who is still the lead in this, our very own Tobi Bakre again 😭. Them wan use this template wound us, 😩😩. So you see, the industry here have a serious problem with originality and proper scripting. It is so sad that Nigeria actually has a rich history of literary work work just waiting to be adapted into movies and these filmmakers aren't ready to pay to get these rights, at least when Hollywood writers hit a scripting mental block issue, they turned to this option. I'm still waiting for a proper adaptation of the classic, "The Last days at Forcados high" 😩😩. I respect your opinion Sir, the fact is that we encourage mediocrity a lot, that's why the industry is stagnant. Asides the locations, and the few veteran actors that did justice to their roles, the whole thing was just horrendous. Maan..You called this right, but we live in a society were if you hate mediocrity, it will seem as if you are doing the wrong thing. In Uni, I can't even lie, i didn't use to bother with new gen 9ja songs because of how sub-par they were but they took the criticism personal, rebranded Afro-beat, and now like 50% of my daily songs driver is Afro beat, and basically the whole world is vibing to our sound now. But the movie industry is the direct opposite, it is like a cult, you are the opps if you criticize. Well for starters RMD acts were just horrible and unbelievable, you could see him struggling with the action scenes all through the movie. To run or move from one place to another was a huge task for him.Maan...You called this rightly again. I knew there was something totally off about his portrayal of the role, man was basically fighting for his life in it,😩..The RMD i know is not the "Action guy", in his younger days, he was a lover boy type cast, then as he grew older, he became a sugar daddy/ family man type cast, he can also pull off an "Egbon" role that wouldn't require all the stunts he was desperately trying to do in this, You see as Sam Dede was comfortable in his role, because that's what he is used to. RMD, i am afraid doesn't have that range, and the casting crew are actually mad. Secondly, notwithstanding that the plot was cliche, the most annoying part of it all was that it was all over the place. One minute it was John Wick, but rather a dog, it was a human being, next it moved to John Rambo Last blood, before you say jack, it's now Taken.Ha!!! Oga writer copy one movie na.. lol. Yeah.,The writing was a big big problem no proper flow, no proper character design, everything was just happening haphazardly with near zero coordination. If they had sticked a proper script, they might have be on to something special with the very fine production set they had, shame it all seems like a waste as the flick has a near zero replay value. They seriously do need to buckle up and the Korean project should be their inspiration. Some 15 years ago, The Koreans were not even at the level they are now, but they did serious work and they now they are churning out top shelf shows and movies almost on a weekly basis and having major streaming platforms jostling for rights to these Korean content. Nollywood has come so far to still be at this level and i seriously do hope they improve because for some reason i am in a love/hate relationship with them so i am rooting for the industry to succeed, if for anything, i have people in the industry that get thier daily bread from it, and it would do them a whole lot of good to their pockets 😄 and thier career trajectory if the Industry goes to the very top by making quality media that the whole world would want to see. |

Kamalgod:Mercenaries actually need to leave social media for the next one month, e no go funny. |
CallTheCops:Mercy 4th. Deks is 3rd |
KingOKON:Pere Una. He is the next to leave. |
NaijaMemes:You might think you are antagonising my point but you are actually buttressing it further. The huge money is actually showing in every other part of the production bar the most important part of movie, which is actually the script, and it is probably the cheapest part compared to acquiring props, location and costumes to make the script happen. The problem is that the film makers are greedy and overlooking it and don't wanna pay for a good script, and these "good scripts" aren't in Canada or the USA!, They are here!. I know this much is true, about my people in the script writing industry here and i know what they face in the hands of movie makers. Good scripts are left to rot here because of this. So case in point is that, I know the government are inept and can actually do better, but it is not their lack of investment that is making the movies here poor. I have followed Iranian and Pakistani cinema for a while, the governments in these two countries are ultra religious and totally detest the stories their movies tell so they don't support the industry as much, but movies from these 2 countries have been in the running for foreign language Oscar awards constantly in recent times. Bubu's tenure set us back decades but before him, i remember GEJ did support the industry even with incentives and funding, their are actually many film schools here that graduate excellent film makers yearly. This might sound to good to be true, i don't have the recent data, but as at 2021, Nollywood was the 2nd movie industry in the World in terms of brand value and yet it doesn't translate well to good movies in terms of quality script and this is not because of lack of Government investment as you postulated and if the investors lacked incentives as you claim, Netflix wouldn't have spent close to $25m in the industry in 2 years and Amazon Prime laying a 5 year plan for Movies and series from here! |
GloriousGbola:The huge money backing should mean better movie making all round but sadly it's not. They actually have a huge platform and reach know, people from remote part of the globe are now seeing our movies. We should do better. |
The Black Book (2023). Again, if only Nollywood could hack this good script writing thingy, they might be in business! According to reports, this has the highest budget for a Nollywood flick ever, at an impressive $1M!, and i just had to see it, if the budget was put to good use, and the Simple answer is Yes and No, Yes been that this probably has the highest production value of any flick made here in a while and i can clearly see why it is doing so well internationally, and No, been that every other thing is below average and we shouldn't be having these problems any more. Pros As i mentioned earlier, the production is so high quality that i was actually amazed, the cinematography and the color grading was so good, and could rub shoulders from those from other well established movie industries. The direction was fantastic, i follow Editi Effiòng on X, and i know when he was looking for an "established director for this" and the search was futile, that eventually had to step into the director's chair and he did a mighty fine job. The casting was A1, majorly veterans of the game, and that cast will move me any day. Cons. It was like these people just finished production, and when editing they just threw anything at it and called it the plot and just ran with it because what the hell was that?. The plot was running into different directions and asking so many questions that they simply had no answers for. I have tracked Editi Effiòng's trajectory and he has been doing well but he should allow another person into that writers room!. The plot paths became so ambiguous that you would simply just abandon trying to follow any of them. The character development was basically next to zero. If they had just followed one of the plot and saw it through well, they might have had a fantastic flick that would have left an indelible mark in this clime. One other thing i noticed, that is not peculiar to this flick alone but to other flicks here in recent times that have had a big streaming outfits backing them, The acting tends to be "unnatural", especially from the leads, who are actually fantastic actors with exceptional range that fit the stories we tell here. They tend to want to mimick the lingua and mannerisms of "Hollywood" for a flick in similar genre, and that makes their delivery seem out of place and plagiarized, they probably think it will help them sell it more internationally. it is worse in this because they actually copied the John Wick Template a bit. That's why i continue to praise Chidi Mokeme's "Scar" gangster delivery in Shanty Town (2023), He clearly understood the assignment. All in all, they lost me with the plot but I stuck it out because of the unusually fine production on display, albeit the experience was enhanced because i saw it in FHD. Good for a first watch but a second watch might be a beautiful torment. 6/10.

Django Unchained (2012) “Kill white folks and they pay you for it? What’s not to like?” I had the pleasure of seeing this spaghetti revisionist western classic again and it might even be better than i remember it. The 8th film by a certain Quentin Taratino offers more than it advertised and quite possibly might be his best work imo, and it was everything you would expect from a film in his filmography as a filmmaker who is true to his materials and methods that work, buckets loads of blood and more than half of the dialogue having an insane use of the N word, and maximum fun guaranteed. The story itself is a simple revenge tale but what makes it really thick is the supreme performances of the surprisingly ensemble cast. Christopher Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio are my clear standouts, the former duly won an Oscar, his second i might add, the first been for another Quentin Taratino flick, thier combo is clearly magical. Not to take anything away from Jamie Foxx's performance tho, it was mightly fine, and he is probably one of the best black actor of this generation. In usual QT style, the film is filled with twisted humour that i was practically just laughing most of it, but there was still some serious racial undrtone that kept me in check, the height of the humour was Samuel L Jackson basically re-enacting a live version of "Uncle Ruckus" 😂😂 It's like QT made Inglourious Basterds (2009) to highlight the horrors of the Holocaust and made this to highlight the horrors of slavery just to balance it up. A very good watch with very high replay value. 8/10.

Baddestguyp:The Apple updates slows down thingy, is a "good thing" in hindsight but on paper it looks as if they want you to buy a newer device. The simple reason is that, they offer the longest OS support for devices currently compared to other brands and it has become somewhat of thier undoing. Take for Example the iPhone x lunched with IOS 11 but got updates up to IOS 16, that's like 5 years OS support!, Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 lunched with IOS 16 out of the box but with a much newer and better chip. So a task might be performed with a single instruction to the CPU on the iPhone 14, but it will take 5 intrsuctions to the CPU to perform the same task! on the Iphone x because of much older chip, thereby stressing it, causing shutdowns and overworking an already older battery and chip, so what they do to avoid this, is to under clock the CPU to perform the tasks much more slowly hence "the slow down", and preserve the life of the old iPhone x for a little bit and if you are tired of the slow downs, you basically just have to upgrade 😀 and that's probably why Apple are a $3 TRN company 😩. Funny enough, many tech products do this also especially computers, but the difference is that they have many alternative products to choose from that are not premium unlike Apple who have a very limited lineup of products to choose from and they are all premium. But that's not even what is happening with Redmi. Redmi run on MIUI which is a custom rom bundled with Android, hence it's the custom part that is buggy and it very difficult to keep a custom rom bug free, and the best thing to do to your Redmi device is to most likely just leave it with the OS with came it out of the box and only update when is very necessary to. Only Samsung has been able to bundled thier One UI with Android with very little bugs, hence One UI is the best custom Android experience. Pixels and Nokia more recently rarely face these issues because they are running pure Android devoid of any customization by third parties |
GloriousGbola:Chief i bust out laughing with you mentioning JiJi 😂😂. The ratio on there is like 9 scammers to 1 legit out of 10 sellers. There deals are always too good to be true which is a huge red flag. The terrible experiences are too frequent and he his better off dealing with sellers on NL like you suggested, who have built verifiable reputation on here like you suggested. I have use some myself without hitches. |
pu7pl3:I saw last week actually , albeit not in bulk, but rather a one off deal. |
Hakeem12:A used S23 base model is around 500k! and it is not a fair to compare it with a Used Poco F5 which will most likely cost under 200k or slightly above since one of his main consideration is a low price. The S10 plus, S20 and S21FE will be a fair comparison |
abduleez1:I am 90% certain the culprit here is Battery, so do a battery change. The Poco F5 is decent and waiting to get it next year will pay off for you. |
abduleez1:Omooo...sorry about that bro. Yeah MIUI tends to reduce in performance over time as the years roll by for older devices. May i even ask which MIUI and Android version you are on? Please and please do not update it any further. The most funny thing is that the cause can range from a very long list of suspects, and it might be pretty difficult to pin down the exact cause but try the following steps. Try and check if you installed any app recently before you noticed the "rebooting" issue , and just uninstall that particular app. Or the safest best is to do backup and do a clean hard factory reset, and just start from scratch. I have also seen a degraded battery cause this issue. Download a battery health app like Accu battery to check your battery health or leave your battery plugged to either a Power bank or power source for a considerable amount of time, if it doesn't reboot, then it means the battery is toast and doesn't have enough juice to power the device and probably needs a change. Lastly, and this is a very last resort option if you have the technical know how, i have found out that running a custom rom on "older" devices seems to prolong thier shelf life. So you will need to unlock the bootloader and run a custom rom, there are tons of tutorials on this, but it is a very risky venture and you should have exhausted all your options before resulting to this. Maaan, the price of devices are at an all time high no thanks to the Naira taking serious beatings against the dollar that it has the same worth as a toilet paper 😭. It was 1k to a dollar yesterday 😩😩. So to even get a Note 9 or 9s equivalent with similar specs of your device in today's money will cost in excess of 150k 😩, but you can actually get good deals on recent mid range devices with decent specs from credible sellers but I don't know how comfortable you will be with that option since you apparently like your devices brand new. My personal tech advice is, the Ember months are not even good months to buy decent new mid range devices, As the new models are already in prod, with upgraded specs and way cheaper, January, February and March is the best month to buy. The Redmi 13 series was released in China yesterday so it will start shipping internationally by January, so it means the Redmi 12 of this year is already old news, and getting it now will be tomfoolery as, you ony have to wait like 3 months, more to January, to get the Redmi 13 that will be considerable better and cheaper. This analogy works for the Poco brand as well since both it and Redmi are produced by the same parent company. So G, the best option is to try to revive your dear old Note 9 series ☺️ and wait it out till next year. I do hope one of these solutions do works for you....All the best ✌️ |

abduleez1:This is none-dialogue right? Does it distract and makes it hard to follow? |
abduleez1:It is the archy type oscar bait maaan. I am hearing Lily Gladstone is believing her own hype on her performance in it, that she's bypassing the studio stance on submitting for best supporting actress, and going for the high ceiling and submitting herself for best actress. |
abduleez1:Vintage and Vignette is where i am at now papi ☺️👌. Like you said, there is a plathora of gems there, waiting to tapped. I'm just glad that the a series of events have aligned properly this year for me to properly be vested in them, no regrets so far 🌱 |
Falling Down (1993) Extreme Anger and Unbridled narcissism is an elixir for total carnage! With actual "really good movies" becoming a rare find these days, it has afforded me the chance to revisit classics that i might have missed over the past eras where making a bad movie was so alien. I coped this semi cult classic and maaan it was so good. The plot sees 2 linear plot lines juxtaposing each other to the finest details and running concurrently but from the get go, you'd just know these 2 plot lines are headed for an epic head on collision course/ showdown. On one hand or plot line if you will, is our main guy, William Foster played by the impeccable Michael Douglas at his absolute peak, a middle aged, out of job and out of luck American man in a white shirt and tie, with severe anger and temperament issues just waiting for the slightest nudge to lit his very short fuse, and like clockwork, this fuse is lit, and that plot line just kinda spiral out of control. Enter our 2nd plot line, At the local police station, enters our 2nd main guy Sergeant Martin Prendergast, played by Robert Duvall, also at his peak, a veteran cop, on his last day before retirement, gets pulled in, to complete one last job before he jets off into retirement haven, the Job is about a series of report coming to the police station, about a "middle aged white guy in a white shirt", seemingly wrecking havoc in town for no apperent reason...need i say more because i think by now you are probably seeing where this intriguing tale and trail is leading to. In-between these 2 plot lines exist well written intricate layers that borders on a "nagging wife" "A Junkie trying to score a fix", A fascist, A Neo-Nazi, the subtle racism of thinking all Asians are from one country and some homophobic servings. These layers properly serenade the plot lines to push a very good narrative the movie was trying to tell. Writing so good that they even twin the 2 plot lines at the beginning, infact the very first frame, but so subtle that blink and you might miss it, but if you do catch it, it properly set the tone of what was to follow. The most profund thing about the movie is that, it doesn't even fit into any genre box, it rather just had a subtle mix of drama, thriller, a little action and even comedy. Need i say that the writing was impeccable, the direction and delivery was top tier, the 2 leads where in a absolute supreme form. This is probably the best flick i have seen all month, albeit, i had really limited free time for flicks this first ember and i didn't see much, but this was definitely top draw, one of the very finest in the WB library. Highly recommended....most especially if you have anger issues 🙃 8/10.
