GloriousGbola:lol will totally depend on context tho. I absolutely loved Gran Torino but i will easily put this for a Family's movie night before Gran Torino. |
abduleez1:Probably because, Netflix is the only one among them truly available worldwide IMO. |
"Living" 2022 Live...Just Live! This British remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1952 cult classic "Ikiru", is a heart felt and emotionally poignant effort. Armed with delicate cast delivery and a sombre score, it takes an existential look at life in the face of assured death. Bill Nighy as lead was so profound with a performance of substance and perfectly weighted melancholy that will just shatter your heart. More than deserved that Oscar Best Actor norm.

A Man called OTTO "2022" O.T.T.O.! This strip down version of Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino (2008) sees Tom Hanks play the titular character, a grumpy and solitary man whose grumpiness is explained through a side by side back story, with Tom Hanks actual real life son playing his younger version. His life is seemingly turned upside down when a new family moves in next to him. Despite his initial reluctance, Otto is drawn into their lives and learns the value of love, family, and community. Hanks is really solid as Otto and brings his warmth and humor to the role, while still maintaining plenty of grumpiness. But Mariana Treviño was the standout as Marisol one of the new neighbors. She brought an immense amount of charm to the role and makes her disarming of Otto's gruff exterior completely believable. The film has a warm hearted message along with some deeper themes of loss and longing, but at the same time it plays out quite predictably making the overall drama feel more generic than it is emotionally moving. It's a cute film nonetheless, and a pretty easy recommendation.

Kaycee7:Sad Sad...Hoping and wishing your Dad continue to find rest,my man. She "did" act and it was good. it was a lot less than her usual "eccentric" persona. |
The Farewell (2019) Heartwarming... Emotional.... Heartbreaking! Lulu Wang's second directorial feature is a peak tragi-comedy that has made A24 a unicorn in the Indie movie lore. A tale of love and loss about a Chinese family that learns that their grandmother has less time to live after a terminal cancer diagnosis, with the family keeping it from her and planning a hastily wedding for the whole family to spend the last few moments with her, with grandma in the dark all through. Balli played by Awkwafina, who held a special bond with her grandmother is not so down with the idea, seeing her grandmother happy to see the whole family but totally in the dark that her days are numbered. The Farewell broke me, as it progressed to it's inevitable ending, i related with it more heavily, it got me reminiscing about when my dad passed on, after the doctors seemingly gave him a clean bill of health, i was glad i had more time with the man, only for me to be planning his funeral less than 2 months later...things left undone....words left unspoken...him gone in the cold abyss of death. An A24 classic through and through. It is incredible how heartbreaking and emotional this movie was whilst been ridiculously heartwarming... Hold your loved ones , you never want to lose them.

abduleez1:lol...Word on the street is that with 80% of the show done, "The Weeknd" decided that the show was too "female centric" and differs from his idea about the show as co-creator, so he approached Sam Levinson with his idea, that the show's sexual content meter should be raised to the max, Sam Levinson, who was already on the same wavelength with "Euphoria", was more than happy to be on board with the idea. Feminist agendist will have a field day when the show airs, I'm sure. 🙃🙃 |

RE:Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Your Optimism is misplaced, Asgardian! Needed to cleanse my eyes off that quantum hullabaloo i saw last week and remind myself how good MCU used to be, so i decided to see this again for the upteenth time. This was the peak of the MCU brand, they will never rise as high as this ever again i am afraid. A perfect CBM in every sense of the notion. The buildup from previous MCU movies leading up to it was unprecedented, it was like a puzzle, each piece from each preceding movie completing a Jigsaw that paid off hugely in the end , whilst introducing the Villian... unknown in the shadows but you could sense the fear. I am a firm believer that a good CBM movie is only as good as its Villian and Boy did The mad titan deliver. Josh Brolin as Thanos, was some of the best villainous persona in movies across genres i have ever set my eyes on, He was fully up to what he was hyped up to be and as a good side bonus, he was dropping gem quotes like a careless jeweller, I was totally aligned with his goals ngl, albeit he went about it in the crudest way possible. To put it plainly, the performance was epic, made for the darkest and grittiest MCU movie till date, no time for that pulpy hero save the day shii we were used to before then in previous MCU instalment, simply went about his business of turning half of the world to dust, so the other half can smile 🙃, to buttress this point forward, After Thanos, seemingly achieved his goal at the end, a macabre score played out during the end credit scene...dark...cold....gloomy personified. No wonder it was hugely successful critically and financially. A perfect motion picture true and true, and I can't sufficiently put into words how much i adore it. Perhaps it set too high a standard for the brand and i fear no movie in the MCU in the nearest future can rival it. I don't even care anymore, i will just hold on to the fond memory that this movie exists.

abduleez1:Hmmm... The ratings for this has been so unstable since last night, it was 100% on RT critics score.and 4/10 on IMDB only for it to be 71% and 6.8/10 on IMDB. Classic VOD movie for me so na to just chill 🙃 |
abduleez1:Zaslav should look elsewhere and not milk this. HBO and WB have a reputable brand and heritage in TV serial making, and as such a plethora of good tv serial makers and writers will go to them to be picked up...just see thier line up for this year alone.. their success rate is so so high. As for "Sucession", yeah, it's best you wait till S4 airs, so you can be served the whole meal 👌👍...a certified banger show, i tell you. |
abduleez1:It's best they end it and end it on bang. Seeing S3, I was convinced that there is no writer in the world no matter how good that could spin it beyond S4 without it becoming bland. |
"Cunk on Earth" (2023) Brilliantly idiotic🙃... Stupidly Elightening💡⚡ This brilliant mockumentary from the brilliant mind of Charlie Brooker the maker of "Black Mirror", deals with human history with a satirical flair that will leave you largely laughing whilst informing you as well. Comedienne Diane Morgan reprises her role as "Philomena Cunk" from her BBC Escapades, chews through virtually all the facet of human history so far, from cavemen, to middle ages, religion, renaissance period, to slavery, to great inventions even to social media. Putting questions to actual experts of these fields in the most awkward and hilarious way possible. So so brilliant....a solid 10/10✔️💯

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody (2022) I am Whitney Elizabeth Houston! Bio-pics i think are one of the hardest genre of motion picture to make, This had it's flaws but still it was a big, lavish and grand ode to the most awarded female vocalist of all time. The movie took some surprising turns and the music direction was A1, it was the driving force of the movie. Naomi Ackie whilst looking nothing like Whitney Houston totally ate and delivered a performance for the ages, She was the anchor, at times too oscar-baity but good overall. she gave a very convincing Whitney Houston regen. Still behind "Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)" for me as far as musical bio-pics go but i totally loved it all the same, i am now waiting for that long over due Micheal Jackson's bio-pic. A fine tribute movie to "The Voice"..."Whitney Elizabeth Houston"

abduleez1:It was a fun watch back then, like a "Superman Origin" story with other DC comic characters introduced along the way mixed with drama.i used to own DVDs of it. I doubt if i will have the time for a rerun at this point, it had a whopping 217 episodes spread across 10 seasons!. |
Holav:Smallville was is a GOAT series. It held good sway in the days were series was 22 episodes and you sure of a new season every year, not this time around, where series will do 10 episodes max and disappear for 2 years. I share your sentiment about the Lana Lang character, hated it with passion, so boring and uninterested. Kristin Kruek the actress that played the character is actually like that in other roles, that's why her career didn't go far. Michael Rosenbaum totally killed the role of Lex Luthor, his demeanor and dialogues were so so perfect. Journalism in any form whether investigative or broadcast will need some form of permission from the source the journalist is getting the info from, they might choose to name the source or not according to the arrangement. Funny enough, the actress that played the Chloe character, "Alisson Mack" was investigated in real life to be running a Sex trafficking cult and she's currently in Jail 😀. The show began to deep after Season 7 because they didn't know how to end it but great show all round. One of my all time fave. Jealous of you just seeing it now, as i myself would have loved a re-run 🙃 |
abduleez1:Netflix dey mad gan? Expensive show to make?? I am wondering in what context. The show had a relatively good following. Netflix too dey gbà, wished it was HBO that picked it up. |
Blatantly obvious..Good grief...Kevin Feige is a dictator at this point fgs ![]()
|
abduleez1:It's somewhat their production through and through just as it is Appletv+'s too. It's like a collabo, since they are an Indie company without a wide reach, they handled the movie's limited theatre run why Apple TV handled the VOD release. A24 seems to be doing this with thier releases recently. |
Finally....a closure 😔😔. David Fincher uninterested in moving forward with this masterpiece of a show is beyond me. Talmbout, "he wants to focus on other projects"..This man has had like just 2 project since then fgs 😭😭

"Sharper" (2023). You can't cheat a honest man, right? For a second, "Sharper" was giving me all i needed in a crime neo-thriller about con artistes and scammers trying to make a honest living. Fabulous mix of cast, engaging and fun story told in a non-linear manner, like peeling an onion, with each layer told in the POV of the characters, it was all going brilliantly. Unfortunately, they dealt their trump card too early, crossing every line of logic and overdoing the concept to make it look like the biggest plot twist of all on paper, but in reality was painfully obvious and predictable. It didn't look like a proper A24 movie, didn't have that spark and charm thier movies have become accustomed to but are you really gonna skip a movie with Julianne Moore bringing out her cougar claws akin to her Don Jon (2013) performance and Sebastien Stan, in his new menacingly dangerous persona, scamming People? I think not. These two raised the movie to a respectable B+

abduleez1:The man sabi die!...proper auteur filmmaker. Always dropping bangers 💣. "The Social Network" is my favorite movie of his, i detest Jesse Eisenberg acting style, but i couldn't even fault his performance in that flick, flawless biopic. Yeah, totally check out "Still Alice", depressing as hell but a gem still, a proper Oscar bait but Julianne Moore did some very fine acting in it. |
abduleez1:David Fincher Supremacy 🙌🙌..Glad he has a movie out this year. Rosamund Pike fully bodied the role, save for Julianne Moore's excellent familial Alzheimer's disease portrayal in Still Alice (2014), she could have gotten the Oscar Best actress nod that year. So sad she doesn't seem to take up more roles since then. |
Baddestguyp:You clearly don't know me on these streets, if you have the time, check my last 3 reviews MCU movies on this thread, heck that is too far, check my review on the Antman movie we have been banging about and let me know if it's the writings of a fanboy. |
Baddestguyp:You are going in circles...so let me leave you be, cuz there's clearly no pov that will make you understand. Peace and light ✌️. |
Baddestguyp:Lifted this of a fan site. The ancient one sent Dr. Strange's consciousness to various verse including the Quantum Realm, it wasn't the bane of the movie. Now your argument was Quantum Realm used to cover up bad plot and i still stand that only Ant-man and Endgame has had it as the bane of thier plot. Next. |
Baddestguyp:Now, post your reply to this post, let see if it made sense or in the tiny bit coherent. |
Baddestguyp:He didn't admit anything wrong, he was trying to expose your ineptitude which flew past your head. Not crying.... just here with the enough time to expose your fraudulence ✌️. |
Baddestguyp:Dr. Strange dealt with the Multi-verse and not the Quantum Realm. The Quantum Realm is a portion of the Multiverse which Dr. Strange hasn't been to. Next? |
Baddestguyp:You didn't mistake shii, you are only trying to spin like exposed DM after a brisk counter attack.....point still stands that your theory is that of a nut case ✌️ |
Baddestguyp:I only admitted to your theory been a nut case theory man. |
