Circle 2015 "Survival of the fittest...or perhaps, of the most selfish" I don't know who recommended this movie some pages back but i say thank you! The movie started of with people of various demographic in a "circle" and each seemly dying randomly but they soon realise that they can actually vote for the next person to die, the innate racist, ignorant, heartless, homophobic, selfish and manipulative trait of humans is laid bare in a daring cat and mouse game to survive. This might be the laziest movie to make because it was basically one scene but a good watch with dialogues lacied with dark humour.

"Manchester By the Sea" (2016) Grim..gloomy... grisly...macabre...bleak A man dealing with a personal tragedy and grief that upends his life, is suddenly tasked with being the legal guardian of his dead brother's son. The subject matter is so so heavy that it has taken me this long to re-see it, it just turns my stomach on previous attempts. Cassey Affleck with a voice barely above whisper and gloomy mannerism perfectly depicts a grief stricken man tired of the world and ready to lash out at every turn, it particularly hits close to home because it encapsulates how i felt dealing with a family grief recently. A performance for the ages and that Oscar Best Actor win was the least he deserved. A well crafted movie on how grief changes one's outlook on life that i recommend you see just once...just too bleak for a rewatch.

Baddestguyp:Yeah i figured it out, that the end was set up to lead to a supposed sequel but it's a perfect one off story, we have gotten the message. This is my problem with these people, they can't just eat the Netflix money once, clean mouth and get it moving to another project and story. From previous sequels in this Nollywood/Netflix era, I am pretty sure any sequel they are thinking of cooking can't top this so they should just give it a rest. |
FergieRaww:Hollywood and other movie industries use double all the time, you won't hear pim about it except there's an absolute need to. Well that her "nude scene" made it's way to WhatsApp since yesterday and it is driving interest in the show despite her silly disclaimer ![]() |
abduleez1:The plan was always for a short theatrical run before VOD, besides the budget was $12m and they have more than $100m at the BO already meaning they have recouped almost x10 of the budget. A win win situation here. |
Shanty Town 2022 Not quite... but We are getting there! I decided to continue my love/hate relationship with nollywood this year, seeing this and i wasn't disappointed that much for the first time in a long while! Dialogue The dialogue was mainly in pidgin english with a little intertwine of Yoruba, Ibo and Ibio-bio and it was so so good. The pidgin English was so raw, punchy, poignant and drove the narrative of the entire story so well that a native speaker will appreciate it more and the subtitles by netflix won't do it justice ...so stellar. Cast. The casting was A1 OMG. I have never seen a mix of cast this good in a nollywood flick for so long. From the OG's RMD, Sôla Sobowalè, Ini Edo to the youngins Nancy Isime, Lilian Afegbai, Zubby Michael to the amateur Peter Okoye and Mercy Eke all gave impressive performance that i couldn't even fault, but special praise goes to Nse Ikpe-Etim, this woman is a dame and her range in nollywood might be unmatched but the overall crown goes to Chidi Mokeme! Mannn..His performance was blindly good, his mannerism alone was so in sync with his titular character. Nudity. I saw the faux outrage about the nudity in the flick and i was expecting some hardcore material like we use to have in those low budget Ghanian movies from yester years and it was nothing like that. How were they going to tell a story about a "town" filled with pimps, thugs, and prostitutes without some form of nudity? Smh...Nigeria is a deeply religious non-religious state filled with "Sunday Christians" and "Friday Muslims", we might rank among the most perverse nations in the world but our faux morality meter is off the charts. organized religion might be the major thing holding us back and keeping us firmly in the trenches. Morality police were over Nancy Isime's case on her show of flesh and she cowered and quickly put out a disclaimer that it was infact a double and not her in that scene, smh...as a professional, how are you allowing charlatans question your art? and she put this out inside 24hours of the show premiering and doing mad numbers, if i was the producer, i will find a contractual clause and sue her because her disclaimer might reduce the stock of the show. Writing This is still my biggest problem nollywood. The writing for this was good in the first 3 episodes and then it just lost gas and went pear shaped. The usual problem of chasing so many side plots without any plan of landing any, was still on show with the writing here. The end was so ambiguous to say the least with the last scene leaving an unnecessary confusion that was clearly not needed. Overall..A better watch than the rest nollywood flicks on Netflix's clime before it. A strong cast performance and excellent dialogue that ensured that the message and narrative the flick tried to tell wasn't lost in translation.

Baddestguyp:it was an American Show on an American network (AMC) in the era of no VOD and just primetime tv and the rest of the world got to see it via third party so the readily and accurate stat to measure how good the show was, is the US records!. Clearly you might not be the brightest tool in the shade to argue these matters with, I apologize. |
Baddestguyp:Smh...The average non-american hasn't seen breaking bad? I actually have a migraine trying to process that fallacy. Tons of people hasn't seen it and yet it's one of the most critically acclaimed show of all time? And yes, the finale did break the internet, and saying this with all politeness, don't cook stats from thin air, actually do some research and live outside your bubble and touch grass once in a while.
|
Baddestguyp:If you agree Enjoyment is subjective that settles it. On the major contrary, Breaking Bad is in most people's all time best show!. I don't know how you watched it, but i actually followed it whilst it was airing and each day of a new episode was like a carnival!. The day Hank discovered Walter White was a drug dealer "broke the internet" and the finale day had the whole world on a chokehold, even Barrack Obama was live tweeting about it!. It entered the 2013 Guinness book of world records as the most "critically acclaimed show" of all time. GOT had more pop culture effect because it began at the beginning of the craze of the era of social media whilst BB was already at it's twilight when social media became a thing, but brahhh "Breaking Bad" was that show! |
abduleez1:The time gap between S2 and S3 was so much that the kids are now looking like teenagers....I have kept it in the cooler for a later time jare. |
Baddestguyp:In what context is "Vikings" more enjoyable than "BB" because in general logic, Enjoyment is subjective. Some people detest Vikings whilst the same people liked and adored the slow burn and eventual unraveling of "BB". I for one totally "enjoyed" "BB" and i am totally game for a rewatch any day any time. And their's a fallacy you push that seems of the mark, which is a show or movie that is "well written" might still not be "enjoyable"...i think this is a gross oxymoron. |

Atrocious Plot...gutter quality dialogue...severe deviation from the source material and too woke for it's own good....so this backlash is thoroughly deserved. Rare L for HBOmax

seankafor:I shouldn't bother with a flick that is 100% on RT? ![]()

abduleez1: Don't mind me, I think i was a tad too harsh on Netflix...lemme allow them cook ![]() |
toluxe0075:The "pop corn" flicks shouldn't just be all they have to offer in an entire year movie slate, it is not a sustainable model and they will loose relevance really fast. Thier earnings are entirely based on streaming and that's why they should have a good mix of solid flicks and pop corn flicks. Their competition is quite stiff now with HBO max , Disney plus, AMC+ and Paramount+ in the game now. They should have the most "subscribers sharing passwords" among the streaming platform and this thier model is why, people aren't willing to pay to see pop corn flicks that aren't worthwhile week in, week out and so they rather lease passwords. Funny enough, some of the best movies i have seen, Private Lives (2018), The Ballads of Buster Scruggs (2018), and Marriage Story (2019), were all from Netflix...i pray they go back to this era. |
abduleez1:I don't think it has made any difference as none of the movies, taking 2022 as a case study, was really "stellar", so saying they have be making "smart decisions" in the last 4 years might be a stretch. I don't think any of thier movies is in the running for any major awards in this award season. I saw a demo of thier 2023 movies slate, and it's only "Rebel Moon" that really got me excited. They were even bold enough for make sequels for "Murder Mystery" and "Extraction" which are clearly 'one off movies", they way the plots went. A clear recipe for failure if you ask me, but we wait. |
IbrahimMav:Why is the "Black Adam" poster in the back drop? Does it tie to Shazam 2? Thought everything concerning "Black Adam" moving forward in the DCU has gone cold? |
Illusioneffect:I thought it was all just a satirical evening with a celebrity chef and some rich folks but as the evening and they began to chow through "The Menu", it started to become weirder, horror issh and even claustrophobic at some point |
pu7pl3:Yes...but i want a series that is set After Puss in Boots (2011) that will involve Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek. |
abduleez1:"The Menu" is an absolute scrumptious delight ! (pun intended ), give it a watch soonest.Mannn.... Knowing poverty is the ultimate enemy, is why i am up each morning to grind |
Seen three movies on a spin that have taken satirical digs at the "Wealthy" Triangle Of Sadness (2022) Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) The Menu (2022) These movies tow the line of thought that make it seem like been "Wealthy" is a crime and you are invariably destroying the planet by just by been rich when the biggest crime here imo is abject bone crushing poverty. |
abduleez1:Disney have been flexing the animation game recently too hard and the acquisition of Pixar strengthened thier position on the market further. Glad DreamWorks is back giving them a run for thier money lol. An healthy competition will always mean better quality animations to come although Disney tends to want to be overly woke these days. |
Puss in boots: The Last Wish 2022. Witty.. emotional.... Heartwarming and ridiculously good. PS: The cricket had one of the best running gag i have seen in a comic picture in a while. DreamWorks back to the top tier form of Shrek 1 and 2. I wouldn't mind if this get serialised.
|
abduleez1:Was it the one that he was a sex addict and needed therapy? |
IbrahimMav:It was decent quite alright but i felt it wasn't as "groundbreaking" as Netflix tout it to be and the build up to the heist was more profound than the heist itself....what do you think? |
abduleez1:Reminds me of this meme ![]()
|
Baddestguyp:Yet "Big mouth" that has become worse with each passing season is at S6 and further seasons planned. Netflix have people vested in good shows and just scrap it out of the blue... it's sickening. |
