All these politicians are Edo people and none of all these concern Tinubu in anyway. OkpaAkuEriEri: |
Point of correction, Igbos don't dominate the S/West in any area. There are Igbos, Urhobos, Hausa, Ijaws, Igede doing different economic activities in the S/west. Arrewa: |
This is what we should be discussing on this forum now but because it is not Afonja Vs Igbos/Osus the thread is scanty. |
Let me tell you one naked truth ; If you have the basic requirements and put in basic efforts ,you will attract basic treatment and basic results. Those that make it to the top have EXTRA requirements with extra efforts . It is true for Professional Associations, Politics, Sports , Business, Academics and of course, Trade Unionism! effty: |
You are making a grave error sir . If you show this post to a DPO in the Nigeria Police, a School Principal, a Bank Director or any reasonable man that is about 50 years of age, they will point out the errors in this post. In life, it is NOT easy to get to the top in any profession or organization, if it were to be easy everybody will get to the top. In addition to the general requirements to be a member of an organization, trade union, association, profession or any human community, there are extra requirements needed to get to the top. These requirements may be written or unwritten, explicit or implicit , formal or informal. It is not every lecturer that can become Vice-Chancellors, it is not every doctor that can become the CMD, it is not every police officer that can become IG, it is not every soldier that can become a General, it is not every civil servant that can become a Permanent Secretary, it is not every priest that can become the Archbishop and it is NOT every citizen that can become the President! We may not like Oshiomole as a person but the 21 year old Oshiomole attending adult course in Trade Unionism at the Ahmadu Bello University in 1973 is NOT the same Oshiomole of 2020. In 1973, he was a disadvantaged 21 year old labourer in the Arewa Textile Factory, Kaduna who saw the future and decided to upgrade the limitations imposed on him by his poor background by studying further at a time many of his overpampered or more fortunate mates were crusising their fathers cars around or sleeping on three seater sofa in their parents' sitting room. Apart from that adult classes, he aquired other qualifications including an undergraduate study at Ruskin College, Oxford and the Prestigious Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (reserved for the top management levels in Nigieria ) to emerged as the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) the umbrella body of workers in the country. His colleagues who didn't upgrade themselves remained mere labourers and retrenched after some years. effty: |
Anybody can praise Jonathan ma. However this does not mean Jonathan contribute to their career. I once supported Jonathan in 2009-2012 for certain reasons. He had an uncommon grace with sympathy of most Nigerians. He had been a Deputy Governor, Governor of an oil rich State in the Niger-Delta, a Vice President, Acting President and President. I expected him to at least build functional refineries in 3 States of the S/South and correct certain anomalies in the country. He didn't do what I expected, so I withdrew my support for his administration. Even though I used to criticize his administration, I also praised him in 2015 with the maturity he handled the outcome of the 2015 elections. He was on on my Blackberry DP for days immediately after the election. Gandollar: |
MC Olumo is a person. Being MC Oluomo is not necessarily a PERMANENT deficiency in Education, Exposure or Character which can be aquired or remolded over time. I know a former Director of Town Planning in Osun State who told me he was able to retired in 2012 at the age of 56 years after spending 35 years in service. Then I asked how managed sir? He said he started work at the age of 21 years with O/L but through the opportunity of in-service training, he was able to go to university and aquired many professional certificates along the line of civil service and rose to become a Director. My former pastor in 2004 once told us a story about himself. He said in 1987, he was a messenger in the office of Director of Medical Services in the Ministry of Health of old Oyo State. He said the exposure and contact he had with many doctors coming to their office inspired him that he too can become like them and he started attending extra mural evening classes for A-Levels. He eventually got admitted to Medical School and became a Medical Doctor! Summary: Don't assume everybody stay at their entry level qualifications. As a matter of fact, those who rose to the top have improved themselves in education, exposure and expertise. effty: |
Oshiomole is not the same thing asthe National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC. Heavensent01: |
This is obviously a fake news |
Do you know what it means to be elected as the National President of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)? Do you think a Labourer can represent Nigeria in the International Labour Organization for two terms? So a Labourer can study at the Prestigious National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru? Think deeply sir effty: |
Just like calling dog a bad name just to hang him Kiddo01: |
In which year? The court declared the ACN/Oshiomole winner of the 2007 election based on the evidence tendered by the legal team of the ACN led by the infatigable legal luminary, Wole Olanipekun (SAN) in 2008. Attributing this landmark Judiciary victory to Dr Goodluck Jonathan who was the incumbent Vice President on the platform of the PDP at that time is a disservice to Jonathan. Oshiomole only thanked President Yar'Adua for not interfering in the Judicial process. Gandollar: |
It's not actually Oshiomole per se but the APC already have strategies and contingency plans for all these factional chairman remaining or not remaining in the party. Oshiomole has been in the Nigerian political space since 1982 when he was elected General Secretary of a Major Trade Union in this Country and eventually became National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress about 20years ago at a time almost nobody knew Jonathan and he became the Governor of Edo State in 2008 and National Chairman of the APC in 2017, so what did Jonathan contribute to his political career? Jonathan was in the PDP while Oshiomole was in the ACN/APC, so what's the benevolence of Jonathan in his political career? Gandollar: |
It's because Nigerian democracy is not yet matured. LukasPodolski: |
Is the North not part of Nigeria? Let whoever wants to contest, be it Atiku, Kwankwanso or El-Rufai contest and build whatever bridge that suit your fancy. The debates about 2023 election should not be reduced to Tinubu's affairs. Tinubu is a private citizen, let him test him exercise his constitutional right to aspire for the highest post in the land. If you don't like his candidacy, start campaigning for your candidate that's in the same class of morality with Angel Gabriel. Macphenson: |
Even Atiku doesn't have this level of confidence. However, the numbers matters in an election. The S/East gave Atiku the second least votes in 2019. SLAP44: |
When did you start caring about Tinubu? Every Nigerian has a right to contest, this will help Nigerian democracy. It is not compulsory to win in any election but we can't say some one should not contest because of the fear of being defeated. Macphenson: |
And Tinubu became Treasurer of Mobile without attending any school? ThatFairGuy: |
An asute Politician like Oshiomole already knows and plan for all these moves. Meninmen: |
Constitutionally, he will cease to be but the party may not challenge it in court before of the time frame and certain technicalities. Swtbabyvee: |
Very good observation. After the defeat of Alh Atiku Abubakar, the North's consesus candidate in the PDP primaries of 2011, a journalist interviewed the then Gov Sule Lamido and asked why he didn't support the 'North's consesus candidate. Lamido replied that 'in established constitutional democracies, it's unthinkable that an incumbent President comes to the convention of his party and the party votes him out. If the party should do that, it means that the party has passed a vote of no confidence on itself'

|
Igbos, Bini and Yorubas used to be one people who practiced similar cultures and spoke the same language in the distant past (like a thousand years ago). |
I think his nephew, Dr John Momoh is the Chairman of Channels T.V and it not affiliated to the APC the way AIT is affiliated to the PDP. frankwandy: |
But this hatred can cause you to have stroke o. rowland545: |
Many Nigerians don't really understand party politics. In Nigeria, it's the Political parties that contest for elections, the candidates are actually like captains of their parties' teams in the elections. The party has a right to determine who should be the captain of their team before going into the electoral contests. Swtbabyvee: |
Many of you just comment based on emotion without fully understanding the peculiarities of each situation. 1) No two elections are exactly alike. The Time ,The Place (States) and The Persons (the political actors) are different. 2) If Obaseki had decamped like Ortom about 6 months before the Primaries, his case would have been different. Who decamp to a major political party four days to the Primaries and is rewarded with a Governorship ticket? 3) The PDP are also studying the situations and it's implications both political and LEGAL implications. 4) You don't understand politics , especially Lagos State politics like Ambode, neither do you have his level of exposure, expertise or experience. You don't have access to the information he had and i seriously doubt it if you are wiser than him. goaldynboy: |
Okay, you may be right bro. However, you need to improve on your grammar sir. Confirmedzombie: |
Buhari was an incumbent President and the candidate of his party, he didn't decamp to APC few days before the Primaries. In established democracy, incumbent Presidents don't even go through primaries before their party give them tickets for re-election. Do you see anyone contesting against Trump for Republican ticket in the upcoming US Presidential election? How many incumbent Presidents in USA or India undergoes primaries before re-election? apokan200: |
These situations are different ma. The purchase of Governorship forms in the PDP has closed and the Primaries is already fixed for Saturday. Are you saying the winner of the primary should step down for Obaseki? If Obaseki is serious about ending godfatherism, the most appropriate thing for him is to join and support whoever wins the PDP ticket and not to seek to be the PDP candidate. It is a potential pit fall for the PDP. Depending on his desires, another alternative is to reconcile with the APC, withdraw from the APC Primaries and he can be compensated within the party. He has still contest for Governorship in the APC and stand a good chance to emerge as a consesus candidate because he will only stay for 4 years ( like the Fayemi's case in Ekiti). bright007: |
The electoral act had been amended to make this almost impossible. fyneguy: |
This tribal bashing is unnecessary sir. I have tried to study them and their perspectives on many political issues , including the reasons they accuse other of certain actions and I think their backgrounds and cultural worldviews project equality of everybody. My grouse with some of them is when they assume every Nigerian must operate according to these backgrounds and cultural worldviews as exemplified by their difficulties in accommodating dissenting opinions.
