Don't mind them. According to their logic, all the people from other parts of Nigeria murdered by Ifeajuana, Nzeogwu, Okafar, Nwaoboshi & Co deserved to be killed but political and military leaders from the Eastern Region were saints who said no evil, saw no evil and did no evil. Hmn, Akintola would have survived! Just like Okotie-Eboh and Tafawa-Balewa who didn't fight back the soldiers? Akintola would have survived just like Ahmadu Bello and his youngest wife survived, abi? If you listen to the narratives of the wives and children of the politicians and Military officers from the Northern , Western and Mid-Western Region that were killed in the presence of their families, you will that they will tell different stories. kingzizzy: I dont like coups but it happend a lot back 8n the day, almost every country in Africa went through multiple coups and attempted coups. Most coups are ked by people from a particular section of a country, that is the nature of coups. Captain Nwobosi is 81 and still alive. He was even interviewed not up to two weeks ago. Captain Nwobosi led Soldiers to arrest Fani-Kayode, he gave himself up without incident. When Captain Nwobosi moved to arrest Akintola, he chose to grab a gun and open fire. According to to what I have read, Akintola died in the crossfire.
It is what it is. Military officers get up and decide for whatever reason to change the leadership of a country through the barrel of the gun, often with casualties. Akintola was just one of the many casualties of the seven coups that were conducted in Nigeria. I believe Akintola would have survived had he not chose to open fire. Fani-Kayode who gave himself up survived without a scratch |

I am not taking about the evils of the Nigerian Army officers but YOUR stand on the matter. What goes around, comes around. No doubts the whole Igbo tribe never planned a coup but a section of the military officers, inspited by tribal loyalty more than any other thing tried to hijacked the political leadership of the country without thinking deeply about the consequences, however it backfired and the rest is History! kingzizzy: If you can understand that Nigerian Soldiers have shot and killed hundreds of unarmed IPOB members who were just protesting on the streets, then you should have no problem understanding why the same Nigerian Soldiers would kill Akintola who was armed and open fire on them first.

All politics is local! You don't understand the politics of Lagos. There are several political groups in Lagos but the Tinubu's group is the most formidable. They have members, loyalists, sympathizers, fans and supporters in every Street in Lagos. Tinubu by himself didn't pick all those people, rather they belong to a group. Tinubu is just like the Class captain of that political group. This Tinubu's group can sometimes work with their enemies to achieve a greater goal or even turn a former enemy to an ally. Some of the top shots in Lagos PDP are in this categories (The Tinubu's group allow them to 'chop' along the way) Bode George godfatherism in Lagos PDP is one the reasons why the party is always having crisis and can't unite to fight a common cause. In 2011, some PDP stalwarts blamed Bode George for picking the PDP Governorship candidate even when he was in prison. SLAP44: Do you know who is Remi tinubu, Fashola, Ambode, Sanyo Olu, Fayemi and more than 100 other politicians have been installed by just one godfather in Lagos ?

You have raised a point shared by some people. It is better to wait for the election and see how this theory will be tested. This is one of the ways that democracy can be further entrenched in the country, by testing and retesting different permutations and combinations. kingzizzy: Of course, but it wont matter how many people contest for the Presidency of Nigeria, only the two contestants of the two main political parties, APC and PDP have any realistic chances of winning. The two main political parties are already plotting their moves towards 2023 and they know that the North will be the decider. That is why both will select presidential candidates from the North
Between APC and PDP, the party that chooses its presidential candidate from the South will lose to the one that chooses from the North. The only way power can rotate back to the South after Buhari has completed his 8 years in 2023 is if APC and PDP field Southern candidates, and PDP is not likely to do so because it will most likely lose to APC |

How old are you sir? In a democratic election, only party can win at a time and those who don't win today can win tommorow . This has been established in many Countries, including Nigeria. Why are you taking as if the 2023 election is the end of all elections with a death or life outcome? Ogonimilitant: Dont worry, 2023 is coming and you will see how the whole Northerners abandon APC for SW and join their brother Atiku to take the presidency. SW will be left in the cold and you will see them start shouting Oduduwa republic.
Be rest assured that APC will loose SE/SS if they dare present any SW candidate. Betrayal and treachery does not pay. Things have since changed. You dont seem to understand. There is a movement currently going in the North for the North to retain power beyond 2023. ACF and the Northern Elders Forum have already backed that move. There no single Northerner or Northern group that has backed any power shift to the South come 2023. It is only a blind man that cannot see that the North wants to retain power beyond 2023 and PDP can see it too. That is why PDP is most likely going to field Atiku. Should APC field a Southerner, you will witness the North desert APC for PDP that allows them to keep power. |

Okay, good luck. I wish Atiku well in the pursuit of his presidential ambition. He is a dogged fighter and appears to have been preparing to be president for some time. Above all, we Humanbeings are just trying, God has the final say. The Glorious Quran 3:26 'Oh Allah, you give power to whom you will' 'Once has God spoken, twice have I heard that: Power belongs to God'- Psalm 62:11. OfoIgbo: I don't think you fully grasp how these things work.
FIrstly, Atiku only rejoined the party a few years ago. When he was out of PDP, PDP was still an attractive party, which was why he rejoined, when APC started to piss him off. Truth be told, there are now greater interests within PDP, who remained in PDP when the going wasn't very rosy. One of such interest groups was the SE/SS alliance. In 2019, this alliance that has a huge moral authority within PDP still stood down for northern candidates. Atiku benefited from this.
If PDP were to dish out its presidential slot to the SE, Atiku will have no option but to stand down, afterall the SE/SS alliance did the same for him in 2019, and also the SE/SS alliance are probably the greatest shareholders in the PDP enterprise currently.
The alliance will not need to beg anybody, after all they have made their sacrifices, ranging from giving northerners the slot last time, to remaining in the party and nurturing it, when every other person left for perceived greener political pastures in other parties, principally APC.
We knew a day like this was gonna come, which was why we were all surprised that Tinubu pushed his people into an alliance with people generally known to want to dominate everything, without paying attention to the letters of an alliance agreement |

There is no big political party that doesn't experience a phase of crisis. Your assertion that the PDP will delare that they have zoned their ticket to the S/East Geo-Political zone after the APC primaries shows you don't fully understand the issues at stake. Such delaration will lead to crisis that can tear the party apart because those who have been investing in the party with an eye for the ticket will become disgruntled which will undermine the party. Elections in Nigeria often bring rancour and divisions. Tinubu should decide for himself whether he is doing well or not based on how well he is able to achieve his set out goals. However, Tinubu running for the Presidency doesn't mean El-Rufai, Peter Obi, Ngige, Kwankwanso or Dave Umahi shouldn't run for the same office. It's a contest not a coronation. Tinubu or any candidate doesn't need to win in ALL the States or Geopolitical zones or even win at all but the right of a candidate to aspire for the highest office in the land should not be overtly or covertly abrogated. If there's a cabal that must determine who must aspire or who shouldn't aspire for the Presidency, it portray grave dangers for the country. If they can do it to Tinubu ,then they can do it or worse things to any body in the future. It will enbolden future cabals The loss of Tinubu's ambition is nothing but the loss of an opportunity to ethrone and deepen democracy is everything OfoIgbo: Tinubu that is a politician, ain't doing really well at the moment..
You don't necessarily have to ask him to step down, but if PDP zones it's ticket to the SE, he will have no choice but to step down. In 2019, southerners stepped down for northerners. Igbos have made enough sacrifices for other regions. If the other regions refuse to reciprocate, then we will not play ball which such regions in the future.
At the moment, only the SS seems to be playing ball with us. All it means is that we will reciprocate accordingly when it is their turn.
As I wrote earlier on, Tinubu will never get any alliance from the SE/SS alliance if his aim is to be the president come 2023. The SW has had more than its fair share |

You obviously aren't a politician. So you think after spending a lot of money, energy and time running for president, you will tell Atiku to step down in Feb,2023 for a SE candidate because a SW politician has won the APC ticket and he will gladly comply to your order? This is part of what I am saying. Certain things need to happen to define and refine our perceptions of how we think our democracy should be. If we have been practicing democracy since 1960 without the Military interregnum, most of the issues we are debating wouldn't have risen. OfoIgbo: Atiku is not even an issue in this discussion. Atiku needs the SE/SS alliance more than the alliance needs him.
It has always been said that if APC chooses an SE man as it's presidential candidate, that automatically, the PDP candidate will be Igbo. The implication is that the alliance will ensure an Igbo man becomes the PDP candidate.
Atiku only comes into play if a SWner is the APC candidate, which in effect means zoning is suspended, thus opening the door for Atiku and others

As many heavy duty politicians as possible need to join the presidential race (including yours sincerely in no distant future). This is how the influence of the any cabals can be reduced. In advanced democracies, any citizen can go to a political party and pick form to run for office. By the way, you haven't answered my question on Atiku. It has it's merits and demerits. If 50% of Nigerians leave their ancestrial lands to go and settle in other parts of Nigeria, in the next 70years Tribalism would have been reduced drastically and we would have been closer to becoming a Nation. Because of the substantial numbers of Igbos living in the S/West, i know many people that are Yoruba-Igbo hybrid (Some are even my relatives). fergie001: Igbos are extremely curious individuals who like to explore and move. Even if you bring UI & UNILAG to the SE.....they will still leave.
Again, we don't make our Universities attractive enough for anyone to stay, tbh.
Another is: there are really no jobs in the SE.
So the Igbo man wants to get out of his Zone, go to Maiduguri, Kano, Kaduna, Ibadan, whilst schooling, he is "shining his eye", making friends who might help him rather than go back to the East and start running Provisions Stores, or teaching WAEC Chemistry with BSc in Biochemistry.
They don't even know here isn't even a bed of roses but they can apply for jobs, go for interviews and keep hopes alive.
Correct me if I am wrong, majority of the jobs you see are mainly teaching or @ most State Govt jobs where you wouldn't even be paid for months.
When I wanted to run one of my degrees, I opted for ZIK..as the 1st son I wanted to be closer home, since all my family members were born and resident in Lagos. 2 weeks before I will complete my registration, I got same admission with a Fed Univ in the SW..
I enquired from my fellow Igbo friends, not one, even there in Abia or Anambra told me to remain in ZIK. They all said; LEAVE, I was shocked. I abandoned even the little payments I had made and left.
Until our Govts begin to let the massive crowd that get out of our SE Institutions do something .....the migration would not STOP.
Ironically, most of the jobs they run to or apply in Lagos and co...are owned by same Igbos who didn't put it in the SE. The first question we should ask is WHY!? |
