aboyaji: to each, his opinion yes, opinion not fact. If you state opinions like they are facts, the least you can do is back them up. There are more introverts in the top 10 richest list, yet extroverts are the ones that make it in the world. Well done sir. |
Christianity Etc › Re: When A Bright Intelligent Child Becomes A Struggling Adult by Ozkar: 7:56pm On Jan 06, 2019 |
aboyaji: Spiritual attribution to some natural happenings can't be much emphasized. I am a victim of all these aforementioned and a lot of friends I have are too.
Inhibition itself should not be ignored in this regard. Fear of the unknown, self constraints, very spiritual family background. All the listed play a very big role in a child's disposition.
Almost 3 of my friends are facing this same fate. Very brilliant, highly knowledgeable. I'm not exaggerating. They are all graduates with 2.1, 2.2 and all but nothing much on their side.
Is it English or laws of physics and mathematics and all Albert Einstein's notations we come this world for?
Is it watching other people's car zoom pass us or looking at big mansions and salivating that we come to see?
Is it solving university problems for undergraduates and correcting every m]stakes and impressions and following the main Oga behind like dog in a bid to get daily chopins like 1k or 2 we come for?
Most times, it's the extroverts that make it in this world. Parents should balance the weighing scale they use while raising a child.
Thanks. wrong, man. Name 3 extroverts in the top 10 richest list. If you can provide a solution for the needs of many and charge them for it, you'd get rich. Simple as that. Many intelligent persons do not solve any real world problems, or some provide solutions no one needs. |

Why would any sensible man utd fan want our noisy neighbours (Man City) to win. Man City has been our biggest threat in the last 4 years while we are struggling. anyways what I know is that Man City will still lose some games I'm sure of that.
LIVERPOOL must win this League if not Tottenham should win it. don't bother... City would win the league. |

Au79: a child intelligence is dependent on 2 factors: environmental and genetic.. mothers care and teachings are environmental factors that help nuture the the intelligence of the child..but wen a child is genetically unintelligent, no matter the role the mother plays in his life, nothing much will change. e.g a child with down syndrome... in the same vein wen a child as the traits of intelligence and he is not notured properly by the mum( no matter how inteligent is the mum) or maybe if the child is nutured by a househelp which happen to be his first contact, there is every tendency that that child's intelligence will b dampened. that's d psych behind it this is totally different from what those articles claim. Your focus is on environment, which also has a huge influence on intelligence in its diverse forms. They say intelligence is genetically transmitted in the X-chromosome and so it comes from the mother (that's funny considering that everyone has an X, and so men contibute an X to their daughters). The original article even went on to state that men are 30% more likely to develop mental/learning disorders and then attributed it the fact that they have just one X-chromosome. There's so much pseudo-science BS in it. |

Daeylar: How old is the daughter? If she is less than 18 I just hope & pray his daughter grows up knowing that her father is preaching trash and no matter how much a man spent on a woman's bride price, it doesn't mean she was a slave which was bought and has to do whatever her buyer says. Neither does it mean she is not equal to her husband or any man.
Stupid man. he isn't stupid. Tactless maybe, but not stupid. If you pay money to have anything with you indefinitely, you are buying it and would then own it. The simple fact that ladies change their last name after they get married proves this. It is not speech like this that demean women, it is our tradition of trading them for money and yams that is demeaning. You don't have to worry about his daughter, he said he wouldn't be selling her. If I have a daughter, I wouldn't exchange her for money either. Stop barking up the wrong tree. |

Watch them flood the thread with emotions and sentiment. The guy's opinion is unpopular and might appear sexist, but that's only because we live in a world of political correctness. Anyone who dares to say uncomfortable truth is branded the devil.
We should stop selling women in the name of bride price and dowry. A man who pays for his wife has bought her, and you can't fault his sense of entitlement if he chooses to cultivate one.
Stop selling women. |

Focusmind: Not just reading, you have to read books that will impact your intellectual ability. It is not about reading James' Hardy chase or all these make believe romantic novels.
Watch good TV documentaries, read news article and journals. Be current in the world affairs.
Watch good TV interviews of influential people, discovery channel, NATGEO and intelligent debates.
These are the totality of things that enriches one's knowledge. oga there's nothing wrong with reading Chase novels or other works of fiction. Clearly you aren't exactly the reading type. The fact that you think works of fiction worthless doesn't make them so. They are mostly brilliant and help stimulate the mind. They also help enrich your vocabulary with words you wouldn't hear/read in documentaries, talk shows, news articles and journals. One can learn something from reading nearly anything. Even silly Nairaland comments can help shed insight into how people think. |

PrimadonnaO: They are really just deceiving him, when in actual fact they do otherwise in their own relationship. The girl in the OP's story is quite annoying...her matter-of-factly entitlement.
The truth is that the things that happen in a relationship are all unwritten codes, but we operate by them. Y'all are deceiving yourselves if you feel you can be in a relationship and not spend money... It's nothing about a woman being lazy, far from it, because even working class ladies and business women have expectations of their man, too. It's one of the ways women feel cared for. We've from time immemorial come to see men as primary providers. While women, on the other hand, are primary caregivers. But it doesn't mean that a woman doesn't assist, too. As a matter of fact, a woman usually goes the extra mile for a man she loves and who in return makes her feel loved. Trust me on this one.
All of these guys whining, they are either broke or badly bruised... not anybody's business, neither does it change the fact.
What I do have an issue with is a woman who won't do anything for herself... and would in fact, be in a pathetic state without a man giving her money.
I work and I earn, and can sort out my basic needs and a bit of indulgences for myself, but no, I won't be with a man who's tight-fisted, a man who doesn't understand that he should be supportive and occasionally do random stuff for his woman whether or not such was requested.
I mean, that would stifle my natural inclinations of goodwill. I'd feel stupid if I cooked such a man a sumptuous dish as a treat with my money...I'd feel silly if I saw that nice shirt and got it for him because I felt it would look great on him. I'd feel overzealous if I arranged a surprise for his birthday. Nahh...can't be with a man like that.
What I won't do however, is tell a man I expect a portion of his salary. Lol. It's actually laughable... Neither would I ourightly be slamming him with bills. I'm a lil too proud to do that.
For y'all vile men all over Nairaland, slamming ladies and selling out wack ideologies, I hope you find a solution to your problems pretty soon. wow... Several paragraphs of undiluted waffling. You don't get the point, do you? There are basically only two real issues here... 1) Is it okay to spend extravagantly on a lady one isn't even in a relationship with? According to the OP, he is a "To be boyfriend", and after he stated his stance, she said she doesn't think they can be in a relationship. 2) Is a lady entitled to a part of a man's salary as pocket money because they are dating? This is the part that gets the most backlash. You said you found her matter-of-fact entitlement annoying, yet went ahead to explain how it is a natural expectation that women have of their man. So what exactly makes her entitlement annoying to you? The fact that you wouldn't say it outright? I found it interesting that you noted you would not want to spend your money to do stuff for your partner. He has to give you money from time to time, for you to spend money on him. It is known that many ladies are tightfisted with their money. So what would encourage a man's natural inclination of good will? Why shouldn't guys who spend on these ladies (that only receive and never give) feel stupid too? Women from time immemorial were relegated to domestic duties in our part of the world. Many used to think (many still do) that women are incapable of any logical thought or of managing positions of leadership. Does the fact that many have thought so for long justify it? You are viewing the world with colored lens, and expect others using colored lens too to have the same color as yours. |

That’s the pervading spirit here for me.- being little in spirit (I am glad for the small bursts of humour, positivity and goodness I have to say) Well I hope I am being hormonal and imagining things. If not, we have a huge problem on our collective hands. Cos we need minds focused on bringing freedom, development and wealth to Africa, not expending energy on gender warring! anty, you are just being unnecessarily sentimental. Nonsense political correctness - never call a spade a spade because someone's feelings would get hurt. You sound like the type that would always take sides with the female in any issue. If the man is wrong, then men are scum, but if the woman is wrong, people are overreacting and fueling misogynistic wars. You don't have the right to call anyone stingy unless they have a responsibility towards you. Stop the psychological manipulation. If it's not your husband, he isn't responsible for your upkeep. Oga don't let any girl manipulate you with labels, all that 'stingy' and 'real man' nonsense. Anyone that tries to manipulate you like this, doesn't care about you at all. She'd always be available for the highest bidder, or whoever is ready to validate her entitlement mentality.
You don't owe any lady anything, just as she doesn't owe you anything. It's okay to spend, but only if you want to, and not because you are supposed to. Save your money for your family, current and future. They are the ones you are responsible for.
Avoid toxic relationships, and it's better you breakup now than to be called 'shameless man' later by the same woman you have given the best part of your sweat and blood. |

These people shouting PWAs upandan, it's like you dunno what a PWA is. Is a freaking web app with ability to manage network disruption well because it uses a service worker.
It's funny anyone would think that PWAs can replace all native apps. In this age of security, you think any good OS would give full hardware API functionality reserved for trusted native apps to PWAs that can easily be manipulated remotely?
Quit the PWA noise. A web app is a web app, progressive or not. |
