SeanT21 would not be on Nairaland this much if she hates Nigerians that much.

I've been laughing for the last 5 Mins mainly because of the comments many people have posted.

On a serious note. I believe there are people after Becomerich.
Many of the things becomerich posts here on nairaland are actually treasonable. The constant reference to and promotion of slicing Nigeria to join Benin Repubic is a treasonable offence in Nigeria.

What I wonder is why any security agency would take it seriously.

Nnenna1:
I was also going to add - private universities could also place emphasis on entrepreneurship with relevant classes and such. You don't have to major in business to get that. In honest, the more graduates open private practices  - in business, journalism, accounting, education, catering, etc - the better for everyone.
You said exactly what I was thinking!! I think the curriculum has to change somewhat, such that those that have the courage would dare to take a leap right out of college straight into business!!
There are so many problems in Nigeria and these problems are huge opportunities for entrepreneurs to take on.
Its those entrepreneurs that would create the jobs for the rest of the populace.

POSAKOSA1:
Well said. But what is it with Nigerians and entrepreneurship ? If you ask me, Nigerians are very entrepreneurial,
It is true. Nigerians have entrepreneurial qualities. But most of the entrepreneurial energy is usually geared towards buying and selling(commerce) as against creating of solutions to existing problems. Nigerians lack innovation, creativity and out-of-the box thinking. What we have is determination, tenacity and gusto!
In essence we have one half of the required entrepreneurial qualities and lack the other half. We need the full bleed and that's what the curriculum of these  these private universities should aim to achieve.

@Northern Universities.

I think Northern leaders have to take this lethargic attitude towards education seriously. Reason been that in the nearest future, the disparity btw the human resource in the north and that in the south would be so wide that we would practically have two countries in one.

In a fair and just system and under normal circumstances, this table should read like this:

Rivers- $432 Million
Akwa Ibom- $412 Million
Delta- $344 Million
Bayelsa- $208 Million
Ondo- $120 Million
Imo- $68 Million
Edo- $64 Million
Abia- $60 Million
Cross River- $48 Million

The rest of the country + the FG should share the balance $322 Million!

That way all the Solid mineral & Agriculture, Commerce and Industry potentials lying waste in all those other states would begin to come out.

PoliticsRe: Ngige, Soludo Or Obi: Who Would You Choose As Your Candidate And Why? by PapaBrowne(m): 11:25pm On Oct 19, 2009
This Anambra race is definitely going to be one of the most interesting elections Nigeria has witnessed.
First, it is the first time we see an election where all the contenders are fairly credible and have healthy credentials.
Second, it is the first time a fresh election would be run outside of the political calender (The whole country would focus on Anambra)
And thirdly, all three guys are good friends and accord each other his due respect.

For me, Soludo is the Solution. . . . . And I'll state my reasons. All three contenders have governance experiences we can judge from.
Ngige and Obi ruled Anambra state and their performances is nowhere compared to the likes of Doland Duke, Fashola, Amaechi, Uduaghan et al.

Soludo on the other hand created a banking industry that became the fastest growing in the world. During his tenure as CBN Governor, Nigerian banks soared internationally. The employment rate in banks increased dramatically from less than 30,000 in 2003 to above 100,000 in 2007.
His credentials are outstanding and the list is endless.

When Soludo becomes Governor, Fashola would have a new contender. Soludo's performance would outshine Fashola in so short a period that Fashola would no longer get the accolades he is getting now.

And you wonder why that place is bleeped up. It's really sad to know that the region's future leaders are toeing the same flawed and deadly lines, just like the ones wrecking the place today.

The region can do better,
Wait ooooh! Which region is bleeped up? Lets face facts here. I have the statistics. Of all the six regions in Nigeria, the Niger Delta is by far the most developed in the country. By a wiiiiiiide stretch!
Don't be deceived by the media attention on the creeks.

Yes. Niger delta leaders have explanations to make concerning funds allocated, but not as bad as leaders from the many other parts of the country. Ibori might have the face of a corrupt Governor, but to be fair to him, he was one of the best performers in the 99-2007 period.

Talking about future leaders, Have you ever asked yourself this question? Why is it that in all the national examinations in the country, the best results come from Edo/Delta state??
The Niger Delta produces all the nations income, contributes by far the most in Sports, produces the best students, has some of the best entrepreneurs and yet is the most deprived of FG infrastructure.

The region will prevail somehow someway, no matter the barriers.

PoliticsRe: How Come Northern Men Can Marry Southern Women But Never The Other Way Round by PapaBrowne(m): 12:06pm On Oct 17, 2009
My answer might be stereotypical, but it is correct.

Northern women do not have the freedom to chose whom to marry. Their husbands are usually chosen for them.

Even the daughter of a man as powerful as the president had to be traded off for political reasons. Yar Adua traded off all his daughters for his own selfish political purposes.

Southern women on the other hand because they have a certain degree of autonomy can chose a husband from any tribe, race, religion or creed!
PoliticsRe: MEND Say No More Ceasefire: by PapaBrowne(m): 10:36am On Oct 17, 2009
Bariga1:
Beaf,

Firstly I am from Lagos state and we do not produce oil but rather have our head screwed-on right and we are constantly looking for ways of improving and selling services to the world. I am happy to give you a free ticket to come over to Lagos for one day to see how things have started to change for the better (please adopt the same policy –stop waiting for government and do something for yourself).

Beaf, I have already started to educate my immediate family about asking questions from their political leaders and it is yielding results, as we can all see Lagos is changing for the better and I pray one day that you can discard this perverse idea that Mend will help you “live the dream”. Otherwise the suffering in ND has just start and it will get worse.

The government has their own share of the blame about some of the problems in ND, but the major share of the problems falls on your traditional leaders and political leaders (also people like you who preach hate words among Nigerians)

You might have a point about the fact that ND produces oil which sustains some other states, but what is the argument here:

is it that producing states should keep the revenue they make from oil or that producing states are not developed?

If the question is the first, then the answer is that ND will never have control over resources (and even if you were given you can not manage the resources with people like you, rather your country will become Somalia. Even it will be a free for all fight). If the argument is about development then speak to your political leaders/elders who have failed you and your family.

Beaf what have you ever done to help ND grow? Apart from talking about the problems and castigating government – young man go back home and put your house in order before you start to talking.

I am sorry to say it, but you are part of the problem and not the solution. You have nothing constructive to offer your people rather the easy exist of war/Mend.

Development comes from within not from destruction!!!!
This is the most myopic write up I've read in a while. First, you sound like Lagos is not in Nigeria and most folks in ND have not been to Lagos. By any  count please, Lagos is the worst state in Nigeria in terms of Human standards of Living. I can't even believe you are talking about Lagos.

Asides, Lagos has more or less enjoyed in the past, massive infrastructural development from oil revenues. Imagine Lagos without all those bridges and freeways, Imagine how impossible it would have been to reside in Lagos. Lagos for crying out loud is the greatest beneficiary of the oil that is pumped from the Niger Delta. If for one day,  the crude oil taps are closed, Lagos more than any other part of Nigeria would be the most impacted.

Futhermore, Lagos is run mainly by the Easterners and the Niger Deltans. Indigenous Lagosians are mainly blue collar workers building bricks, selling Akara and hawking orange. Easterners run the entire commercial landscape in Lagos. Niger Deltans run the banks and the Media. Just one state in the Niger Delta(Delta State) had six  out of 24 of the Bank MDs Before Sanusi's palaver.
Infact half of all the banks in the country were run by Niger Deltans. The remaining half are shared amongst the the remaining southern regions with the easterners taking the bulk.

The three main media houses in the country, Guardian, Vanguard and Thisday all belong to people from just Delta State alone. Channels TV, Silverbird TV and AIT all belong to people from the Niger Delta. The list is endless.

Also, who told you that Fashola is the only performing Governor. Please do take a trip to Delta state or Rivers State and see for yourself services the residents enjoy that Lagosians can only dream about. You cannot compare the standard of living in Lagos to that of say Delta state. The only place in Nigeria(outside the ND) that compares favorably is Abuja.

My point is simple. Corruption is endemic in every part of Nigeria. Attributing poor leadership strictly to the Niger Deltans is extremely absurd, myopic, biased and can come only from someone with pathological narrowmindedness.

Nigeria has a problem and that problem is mainly structural. Implement true federalism and everybody benefits. Infact, Lagos benefits more. MEND is advocating this and it understands that  the only language politicians in Abuja understand is sabotage on oil installation. Thats why they aren't hoodwinked by the nonsense called amnesty.

I
know if I ask you the allocation received by your local government you will go silent on me, you will not know and do not bother because you have no interest. Rather people will blame government.

Help your people in the little way you can: advice them to ask questions from their political leaders in the community abstain from greed and the future will be brighter for you and me.

Do you think that Mend is fighting for your future development or that of ND?

Youngman wakeup from your slumber and start being proactive by educating your family back home:  asking  questions is the key. That is the little you can do and it will go a long way.
I really don't get your ranting! You sound like Bariga(I suppose that's where you are from) is some highly developed area where the leaders are accountable for allocations given to them.
Please oooh, the last time I checked, corruption was endemic in all parts of Nigeria from the ND to the Fulani highlands, from Awo's backyard to Ojukwu's bedroom. There is corruption everywhere in Nigeria hence I don't understand why you have chosen to single out the Niger Delta.

We are all aware of what is going on in the Anambra PDP governorship primaries. After this plot to install Soludo as Governor succeeds, the next plan is to foist him on Nigeria come 2015. As we know, the ruling party ceded the Presidency slot to the East after Mr. Yar'Adua, so Soludo is best possible candidate from the East, but we Nigerians must resist this plot & insist on a proper democratic process.
I PRAY THIS HAPPENS! SOLUDO WOULD DEFINITELY BE THE BEST PRESIDENT NIGERIA EVER HAD!

PoliticsRe: What If You Were In Charge Of All Spending In Nigeria? by PapaBrowne(m): 9:03pm On Sep 30, 2009
@Blackspade
I read thru your plans and I find it interesting.
But there is a big question you failed to address!Funding.
The things you've outlined would cost nothing less than 1 Trillion dollars to accomplish.
Now given that all the oil Nigeria has ever sold since 1956 is somewhere in the region of $500 billion, how would you raise the funds for the projects you've mentioned.

The highlighted part is exactly what I would direct my goals and achievements toward, if I were in charge of all our income!
How do I raise the resources to accomplish these enormous development plans?

If you search for understanding on the theory of development, you'd find out how resources, not finance was used to develop nations. The moment Africa understands this fact, they would stop shipping out precious resources and start using such to directly develop their societies.

The rightest road to block is either the road leading to Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos or any Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

While I don't think it is the wisest use, it is a much better use than 90% of what Governments in Nigeria utilizes finances on .

It is a much better use than all that hotel money spent on public servants, all those cars purchased for political officers and the attendant fuel costs. It is a much better use than providing wasteful estacodes for government officials and their families. It is surely a much better use than more than 90% of all what government expends our meagre resources.
I surely do prefer the street lights run by expensive generators. At least in that one, we all benefit.
