^^^^^ Agribusiness alone can earn more than oil. Let me just state some interesting facts for you: Nigeria is the largest producer of Sorghum in the world. We produce over 20% of the world's output despite having some of the worst yields per hectare in the world Sorghum is beginning to be seen as a very cool alternative to corn and barley for animal feed and beer production respectively. That alone can earn us over $2 Billion yearly. Nigeria is the second largest producer of citrus fruits worldwide but we import 99% of all the concentrate we use in manufacturing fruit juice in the country. Nigeria is the largest producer of cassava in the world. We make less than $100 million exporting cassava yearly. Thailand on the other hand makes $5 Billion yearly despite producing much less quantity. Nigeria produces 65% of all the Tomato output for west and central Africa. 40% ends up wasted. And yet we are the largest importers of tomato paste in the world. We are one of the largest producers of banana in the world. We earn $0 in foreign exchange. The Caribbeans earn upwards of $4 billion yearly. The list is endless. The story is same for a whole lot other crops. We are tops despite zero mechanized farming. Imagine we mechanize our farming. Imagine all that land mass in Northern Nigeria was farmed. We could feed the world and earn 10 times what we earn from oil. |
Obiagelli: Seconded but I would prefer if we just click the like button without posting comments. (my opinion)And the post will travelk from the first page to the second page and on and on until it vanishes from our view. Likes to bump it. If you want people to see the thread, it must have comments as thats whayt will keep it active. Jonathan is leading. |
Another paid sycophant. Nigeria is only hot for exploiters willing to maximise their profits within a short period of time. I still don't know how an economy with no manufacturing/industrial base can be hot loool. Useless country. All this nonsense is just a freaking bubble!
Who is a paid psychophant? Myself that sees opportunities and is taking advantage or the McKinsey Boss that has all the fortune 500 companies in his kitty? Create the base and you'll be in for the money. Stop being a hungry pessimist. If you understood the thinking of great entrepreneurs, you'll see opportunity in the fact that there is no manufacturing/industrial base and yet there there is a population of 170 million people who must consume products. You'll seek to establish that base and earn tonnes of money. And, that there is the thinking of those people you call exploiters. Since you choose to blind your eyes to opportunity and see only problems, they convert those problems you see to opportunities and make tonnes of money by maximizing their profits. Get wise and stop being foolish, If the exploiters can see the opportunities why cant you see it. Except all you seek is for government to put food on your table. |
Aliko Dangote Is Africa's First $20 Billion Man Nigerian billionaire and Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has become the first African entrepreneur to lay claim to a $20 billion fortune as the stock value of his largest holding, Dangote Cement, leaped just about three-fourths since March when Forbes released its annual ranking of the world’s richest people. Aliko Dangote’s 93% stake in the cement company is now worth $19.5 billion. Add this to his controlling stakes in other publicly-listed companies like Dangote Sugar and National Salt Company of Nigeria and his significant shareholdings in other blue-chips like Zenith Bank, UBA Group and Dangote Flour; his extensive real estate portfolio, jets, yachts and current cash position, which includes more than $300 million in recently awarded Dangote Cement dividends, Dangote is now worth more than $20 billion. Put into context, the Nigerian billionaire is now among the top 25 richest people in the world, richer than Russia’s richest man, Alisher Usmanov, richer than India’s Lakshmi Mittal and running neck and neck with India’s Mukesh Ambani. He is catching up to such Americans as Google’s billionaire founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The unprecedented surge in Dangote Cement’s share price is largely a market response to the company’s impressive 2013 Q1 results. The cement manufacturer’s unaudited results for the three months ending March 31 showed that the company’s pre-tax profit rose to $339 million, representing an 80.6% increase from last year and a strong indicator of the company’s future earning potential. The results also indicate a 79.5 % rise in its earnings per share over the corresponding period last year. Explaining the company’s share price boost in an email to Forbes, Carl Franklin, Dangote Cement’s Head of Investor Relations in the U.K said that in the first quarter of 2013, the company had a huge increase in demand across Nigeria, gas supply improved considerably and the capacity was much more ramped up. “So Q1 was the first sign of just how profitable we can be in Nigeria. The amazing thing is that 66% of our gas-fired production in Q1 was done at 84% gas. Imagine what would happen to margins if we did the same amount at 95%. This has given investors a good sense of what we can really do when everything goes in the right direction,” Franklin said. With a current market cap of $20.5 billion, Dangote Cement becomes the first Nigerian company to achieve a market capitalization of over $20 billion. “It’s certainly a landmark for a Nigerian company and we’re proud to be the first to achieve it. Obviously we are focusing on building long-term and sustainable value for shareholders through our investments in Nigeria and Africa. Nigeria is a very entrepreneurial country and I can assure you that other companies will follow us in achieving this.” Other companies might eventually achieve this, but it’s going to take a bit of time. Dangote Cement currently accounts for more than a quarter of the total market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The second largest company on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) is currently Nigerian Breweries, West Africa’s largest manufacturer of Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The company has a market cap of $8.5 billion. Dangote debuted on the FORBES billionaires list in 2008 with a fortune we pegged at $3.3 billion. His fortune dropped to $2.5 billion in 2009 and plunged further to $2.1 billion in 2010. His fortune surged 557% in 2011 to $13.8 billion after he took Dangote Cement public. He dropped to $11.2 billion in last year’s rankings, but rebounded at $16.1 billion this year. Since March, his fortune has jumped another 30%. Dangote was destined to shine in business. At age 8, he apparently gave packets of sweets he had made to the house servants to sell for him. His father Mohammed Dangote was a successful businessman and an associate of his maternal uncle Alhaji Sanusi Dantata. Dantata and his brother controlled the trade in kola nuts and livestock conducted by 200 agents. Dangote started building his fortune over three decades ago after taking a loan from Sanusi Dantata. He started trading in commodities like flour, sugar and cement. He became a billionaire by later manufacturing these items. He started making pasta, salt, sugar and flour in 1997. But he found his gold mine in cement, when he was awarded a government’s state owned cement business in 2000 and began building his own plant in 2003. He listed Dangote Cement in 2010. Today, it is Africa’s largest cement company providing cement to Nigeria and other African countries that otherwise would likely have to pay to import much of the materials. Dangote still likely has bigger ambitions. He told Forbes Wealth Editor Luisa Kroll at Davos in 2011 that he expected his firm to have a market cap of $60 billion within five years. At $20.5 billion, Dangote Cement still has a long way to go to live up to that dream, and while it is quite unlikely that Dangote Cement could hit a $60 billion Market Cap by 2016, don’t write it off as ‘impossible’. With Dangote, you never know. https://b-i.forbesimg.com/mfonobongnsehe/files/2013/06/Aliko-Dangote1-300x168.jpg http://www.forbes.com/sites/mfonobongnsehe/2013/06/01/aliko-dangote-is-africas-first-20-billion-man/ |
As per Terrorism No be by mouth. America, despite being the world strongest Army is trying so hard for the last 10 years to stop insurgency in Afghanistan and its finding it so difficult. Except APC themselves are the terrorists, in which case all they need to do is tell their boys to lay down arms, then there is no way they would convince us with this crap. Better still can they please show us how exactly they want to achieve this and stop leaking their buccal cavity. As per corruption: APC currently runs 11 states in the country. Can we do a check to see if corruption has ended in these states? The last I checked Emperor Tinubu is as corrupt if not more corrupt than Ibori so I don't understand why Fashola has not yet set up a probe to look into his activities and send him to Kirikiri. While Fashola complains of lack of funds to complete his projects, Tinubu's multi billion naira private projects9A la Oriental II, Ikeja Mall, various estates in Lekki et al) get completed even before the completion date. One question please: Is there any law preventing state governors from fighting corruption in their states? Or is that also an exclusive preserve of the Federal Government. To the best of my Knowledge, even a simple market women association leader is empowered to fight corruption in her association, so I wonder why the state Governors of the opposition are not interested in fighting corruption in thier abode. |
Nchara: Good things are happening in Nigeria that every sane person should appreciate. Thanks for the video. But Harvard- one of the best- is not a member of the ivy league, even though it is in the East of USA.Great things are happening truly and the wise would seek to take advantage. Harvard is an Ivy League. Stanford isnt but its better than many of the Ivy Leagues. But for better understanding and for the benefit of those that unknowingly assume Ivy league signifies the best Universities in the US, I referred to Stanford as Ivy League. Many people do use the same classification also especially for MIT and Stanford. Hear Wikipedia: The eight institutions are Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. The term Ivy League also has connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_League |
But to think about it, its true sha. In six year, the only project over 10 billion Naira that Fashola has completed is the new bridge he just commissioned and we all know that the one is going to earn its money back now now because of the toll. Every other major project is yet to be completed and still looks like a decade from completion. But Fashola is a great administrator sha. While Labaran Maku I think is somewhat of a bum especially as he is doing a pretty bad job at properly disseminating the extraordinary success that his boss has accomplished in just two years. His speech is an indictment of his own job. |
Fashola also revealed that the agency had received applications from many Ph.D, M.sc holders and graduates in the course of recruiting registration officers. If this statement came from Jonathan, many ACN haters would ask why the president hasn't created jobs for them in his 2 years as president. So my question to my amiable Governor Fashola, why are there still many qualified Lagosians without jobs such that PHD holders want to work as registration officers. Why hasn't Lagos and ACN been able to create dignifying jobs for these people after 14 years in power?? |
Nice one. Registration of the citizenry is a neccesary part of governance. If you dont know who you citizens are, how can you know how to provide services for them. Once again Nice one. |
Fashola also revealed that the agency had received applications from many Ph.D, M.sc holders and graduates in the course of recruiting registration officers. "The position was initially planned for only school certificate holders and people with OND who would be a paid N25, 000 monthly but 85 per cent of people that applied have degrees, masters, PhD or even some other higher levels. "We have them coming from all walks of life; accountants, biochemists, micro-genetics, applying for a job that does not pay that much," she said. Fashola added that LASRRA had brought this to the notice of the Ministry of Establishment and Training to help find a way of helping them. She said, "I do not believe that we should turn them back to the community without giving them some necessary skills that can move them forward in life. We haven't come up with an exact plan, but we are on it. "Candidates have been given an assessment test and only those who passed were allowed to go through the training." If this statement came from Jonathan, many ACN haters would ask why the president hasn't created jobs for them in his 2 years as president. So my question to my amiable Governor Fashola, why are there still many qualified lagosians without jobs such that PHD holders want to work as registration officers. Why hasn't Lagos and ACN been able to create dignifying jobs for the people after 14 years in power?? |
adejoro75: MIT, Stanford and Caltech are not among the ivy league unis, but course-for-course no ivy league uni is better than them.Totally agree. Except maybe for Harvard. Stanford's location as in Bay area and Silicon valley helps make it the leading institution for entrepreneurship and start up companies. Topic: The Mckinsey CEO says, : If you want to succeed in tommorow's business world, you must know a Chinese , A brazilian, an Indonesian and a Nigeria Business Executive. He puts Nigeria at the top of the league. Some of the highlights of the speech: There is a tectonic shift in global economics with power shifting from the traditional west to the global south. 3 Billion new middle class would be created from Emerging markets. Nigeria would have more newborns this year than all of Europe combined. Implication: Make toys, Start a baby clothing line, Ecommerce in baby products, Open a creche,Make Napkin, Wipes and Diapers and you'll make a hell of money. Nigerians are starting some of the most amazing companies in the globe. Implications: Serve as a consultant. Provide services for companies in accounting, logistics& distribution, Human Resource, Digital arts, Media/Communications, Outsourcing. IT. And a whole lot more. One Example: E commerce is gaining tremendous grounds in Nigeria. But there is no organized distribution channel to get products across the country. Huge opportunity for a company that would engage in nationwide door to door delivery.. I tell my new executive directors, in the first 2 months of operations, they must have either met a Chinese, Brazilian or Nigerian executive. Implication: Companies are seeking to come to Nigeria in droves. Those Stanford students are going to leave that hall thinking, I got to do some more research about Nigeria. The opportunities there must be crazy! They are gonna want to start up new companies here. Its already happening. Procter and Gamble is opening a new manufacturing plant in Nigeria focusing on Diaper production. 350 million dollars investment. And it is happening on the strength of the number of middle class newborns that would enter the market. Opportunities would exist for individuals who can partner with all these companies looking to set foot in Nigeria. Immense opportunities. A positive outlook is the first step to taking advantage of these opportunities. In the next 15 years, the world is going to need 76 new Procter and Gambles to cater for the 3 billion new middle class. Procter and gamble sold $84 Billion in 2012. You could actually be the owner of one of them instead of one of those Stanford grads! Lets take advantage! |
HNosegbe: PapaBrowne,I wouldn't want to expose my identity here on Nairaland, so I wouldn't state my exact job and company. But I'm doing pretty well. My goal now is to promote entrepreneurship through collaboration, cooperation, innovation and creative thinking. The internet has broken the strongest barrier to progress and that is access to information. Now that we have all the info we need, lets make use of it to start some amazing businesses. The opportunities here are like fishes in an ocean..endless!! Big hurdles, but if you overcome, you ROI would be crazy! Everywhere you see a problem is an opportunity in the waiting. As per company registration process, pretty easy these days. Takes about 24hrs in Abuja and Lagos. About job creation, hmmm. How do you quantify that? |
Hmmmm. Cybercafe at a time people can put thier hand in their hand in thier pocket, bring out thier blackberry and use the internet. I think the days of internet cafe is over. 300,000 can even buy you three good computers. And three computers can give you good income. Maybe each computer would bring about 1000 naira daily. I would rather recommend you look for a business that people would surely patronise. Sellling recharge card on the road side would even earn more money than a cafe. I would suggest you make it a business centre with a few computers attached rather than an internet cafe. |
YoungMinds: LAUNDARY STARCH MAKING BUSINESS (Please advice)Start off. Nobody will disturb you. Just go out there and sell your products. When you have enough money, you can register. Its like asking if the man selling meat by the road side is registered. Just start your businesss. Nobody would harrass you. I wish you success. Make sure your packaging is on point. |
Dis Guy: it should appear by just pasting the youtube link, dont know why yours didnt show up thoughThanks a million. You've taught me what i tried to learn 4ever. Thanks disguy. |
TheBookWorm: Interesting...I know it is not Ivy League in the real context of those 7 elite East Coast schools. But for better understanding, I'd always refer to it as Ivy League considering it towers above the rest except maybe for Harvard. On tthe topic, someone please tell me how to embed a video, I never ever get it right, so just before I quit trying, someone please help! |

The CEO of McKinsey Global( one of the world's top consulting firms) is speaking to a group of Stanford University(Ivy League in US)students. He tells them, if they must succeed in the coming world, Nigeria is one of the destinations they must look at! He goes on to address the misconception about Nigeria and describes it as one place in the world where some of the most amazing businesses are being launched. Nigeria is growing my people. We need to be positive about this country. The opportunities are immense!! Agriculture, IT, FMCGs, Finance, and a host of other sectors are awash with opportunities. Stop looking for a job. Start a business. Create solutions. Lets take advantage of our opportunities before all these oyibo swallow it all up. We need to get wise and be positive. Forget the electricity situation. Console yourself with the fact that we have the best return on investment in the whole wide world. |

ballabriggs: All these talk about the NGF being 'unconstitutional' is totally stupid. The constitution guarantees the freedom of association and nobody can take this right away from us.The NGF is as constitutional as OPC, MASSOB and your Neighborhood association as well as the Association of retired Prostitutes. They all have a right to freedom of association. NGF is unconstitutional as a body of governance with regard to jurisdiction of state functions. In that light any utilization of taxpayers money for the funding of the activities of the NGF is totally illegal. |
For these 3 reasons: Jonathan is the winner in all of these and Fashola's suit helps the President's intent even more. 1) All Jonathan wanted was the destruction of the unity of the NGF. He has gotten it on a platter of gold. The NGF,an unconstitutional body has been used from the beginning as a tool to oppress the office of the President. From OBJ kneeling down to beg Atiku to the delay in allowing Jonathan to act as President when Yar Adua was Sick to the blocking of the Sovereign Wealth Fund to the determining of Election calender, the Governors have used the united front of NGF to oppress the office of the Executive. All Jonathan wanted was to destroy that Unity and make them fight themselves. That way, they would no longer have power over the executive. 2)The NGF elections showed Amaechi as an opposition apologist. It benefits Jonathan because PDP members who would have had sympathy for one of their own(Amaechi) would have a rethink when they see the way the opposition is pushing his case. I am still wondering why Amaechi is not willing to leave the PDP since the opposition is showing him so much love. 3)His Enemies have been exposed. The division of the NGF has pretty clearly defined for Jonathan who is with him and who is against him amongst the Governors. My own personal opinion: State Corruption would be cut in half since those against the President would have to be more meticulous in thier utilization of funds allocated from Abuja as the EFCC would soon be opening offices in front of the Government house of each of his enemies. Thats good news to all of us. |
Interesting read. Someone has obviously monitored Sanusi and hacked his telephone for a good number of months. Nobody makes these kind of allegations replete with specific dates, time, location and content the way its done here without been privy to some quality info. To bankroll this kind of project, millions of dollars would have gone in. Obviously,Moles are planted in all the hotels he visited. A telecom staff who has access to Sanusi's or perhaps the lady's number is involved. And his movements are been followed. I hope these guys don't have videos or pictures of escapades. That would be damaging to the man. Might be a gross violation of his privacy but a deserving one considering what he did to people's hard earned companies. Its called Karma. |
superior1: FOR those who think that President Goodluck Jonathan is bothered about the public criticism of his administration’s policies, the president has told them not to lose sleep, as he is no longer bothered about their activitiesHe doesnt lose sleep over your type. Bitterness rules in your world and it is not his making so why should he lose sleep over your comment. |
Aregbeshola is a thug and should never be put in the same book with Fashola. If your definition of smart is agbero, then fine, give it to Aregbeshola. But if your definition of smart is AKA harvardish....then Fashola is you go to guy. Oshiomole is very very smart. So is Akpabio. And I like Fayemi too. |
^^^^^^ I wouldn't mind. He is a very good administrator. A good visioneer. But to be fair and truthful, First, he cannot win in APC. The mathematics don't work in his favour. Second, administering Lagos is different from administering Nigeria. Thirdly, if you question was about 2019, fine. If it is about 2015, I don't think there is a vacancy in Aso Rock. |
Nice bridge!! Excellente!! Fashola just knows how to do it right! |
APC! An Association of PDP Rejects!! |
Abagworo: You've still not given any instance of Amaechi being disrespectful to Jonathan or even declaring interest in 2015 Presidency. He doesnt have to declare interest neither does he have to be disrespectful on the pages of newspapers. There are many nocturnal meetings that go on in different locations across the country and surely the incumbents camp is aware of many of Amaechi's hobnobbing. If all my enemies are your friends, then surely you are an enemy. |
Abagworo: Show me any link of where Amaechi insulted the office of the President or declared he is contesting against the President in 2015. Those that know Amaechi well will tell you that he is going for Rivers East senatorial elections in 2015. Or is it because of the fake posters?Ok. So let me ask you a very simple question. Why does Amaechi want the NGF Chairmanship so bad. Why did he hustle it in the face of the immense opposition against him. Why did the opposition choose to take side with Amaechi? If all he wants is a senatorial seat, why then is the NGF position so important to him. I have never seen a desire for powerless power(NGF doesnt convey any real powers)like Amaechi has displayed in the last few months. JONATHAN wanted only one thing with regards to NGF. Split them. And he got it. A united NGF under Amaechi or Jang is a threat to the President like it has always been from the days of OBJ. Remember how the Governors drafted Atiku to run against OBJ in 2003 and how OBJ had to literally kneel down and beg Atiku?? |
Abagworo: If you know of any other reason can you please share with me. Amaechi also made exact same Aliyu's statements with regards to Jonathan. Abagworo: True words. Jonathan should learn that those criticisms are the truth and is nothing personal. His problem with Amaechi is because Amaechi criticized the spate of work on East/West Road. Is that not too childish for a man of his age and a President for that matter? And you seriously believe that the reason for all this is his east-west road criticism of Orubebe?? Are you seriously serious? Abagworo, you should know better. You are too smart to have that conclusion. In case you don't know, Amaechi is working with the opposition to undermine every effort the president makes. Check Sovereign wealth fund. Check PDP politicking since 2011. Check 2015 politics. Amaechi is a traitor and that is the feeling of most people in Port Harcourt. In this battle, he is a lone wolf. All his percieved supporters would back pedal one by one then he will understand the true meaning of the word traitor! |
maclatunji: Rotimi Amaechi is trending on Twitter. Good work GEJ! All Amaechi needs to do right now is release an album and the sales figures would put Tuface, Dbanj and P-square as a combined unit to shame. This is what I call riding the crest of your enemies' hatred to higher heights.Micheal Adebolaja, the Islamaist British soldier beheader is also trending on twitter. |
Gbawe:The most effective administrators in Nigeria?? Fashola we know. Oshiomole we kno Chime we know. Akpabio we know. Who on earth is Aregbeshola and do we have any pictures of his works. I await your pictures of improvements in Osogbo, Ife and the likes. |
Imagine this scenario. The scene is a school with Primary and secondary school students. A primary school bully is lord over his Primary school pupils and bullies all of them to submission. One day he begins to feel so powerful and decides that he can take his bullying to the secondary school. Of all the classes in the school, he chooses to take his fight to the SS3 class and runs his mouth on not just the regular members of the class but on the most powerful member of the class. All the SS3 students(excluding the most powerful) pull their belts and start flogging him and he screams running out of the class that they want to kill him. Ha, a bully crying because they are flogging him with belt?? My big question to Amaechi: What was he thinking!! That Jonathan would just bow down and worship him because he is who? An NGF chairman? Show me NGF in the constitution!! |
