Bonga oil field is one of the interesting mysteries of Nigeria. Bonga started production in Nov 2005 and was built at the cost of $3.6 Billion. I remember wondering at the time how long it would take them to get a return on investment. Boy I was beyond shocked. In less than three months, Bonga had produced enough oil worth more than the $3.6 Billion that was invested. The facility produces about 250,000 barrels daily. At an average of $100 per barrel, that equates to $25 Million dollars daily. I saw an advert Shell put up recently that showed that Bonga, till the end of 2012 had produced 400 million barrels of crude oil. At an average of $100 per barrel over the period, this single facility has coughed out $40 Billion worth of oil, which is over ten times its investment in less than 7 years. Some crazy ish, man. Crazzzzeee! About its proximity to Lagos vs other states, the map below exposes that fallacy. Bonga is Niger Delta property, probably shared between rivers and bayelsa. https://www.rigzone.com/images/news/library/maps/3/4883_250x250.jpg https://www.rigzone.com/images/news/library/maps/3/3159_250x250.jpg |
Some of the details here are exaggerated. However they paint a good picture. |
ive been to Dubai. it is just like a bit modernize version of Hausaland.
No sir, you went to Deira. That's where the poor of the poor in Dubai hang out and sadly, that's where the chunk of NIgerians go. It's like visiting Oshodi and saying you've been to Lagos. Dubai is crazy, cool. Do the Marina, JBR, Burj Downtown and you'll love the city. Too many places to be at. Too many crazy stuff to see. And I've been in all continents except Australia so I'm not just tripping. I know what I'm talking about. Dubai is world class especially when you consider that 20yrs ago, much of it was just flatland. |
Actually, not bad leadership but bad followership. The question is why are we always having bad leadership. Leadership at anytime is a reflection of the society that lives within. Nigeria produces bad leadership because the society at large is corrupt. Yes politicians rig elections, but students also cheat in exams. Yes commissioners steal public funds, but workers also pilfer company funds. Yes contractors overinflate jobs, but traders also seek over profiteer. What we need is a complete paradigm shift with regards to our culture. We should seek to deemphasize accumulation and rather engage in productivity. If we had a culture of productivity, it wouldnt matter if we have horrible leaders. First they wouldn't last and secondly they would have no space to act horribly. If people stole money and rather than accumulate, they sought productivity, society would be better off for it. |
I have only one question for Buhari and I'm begging for answers. Asides elections and going to mosque, what else does this man do? A sensible politician would take all this time before the elections to build strong links across the country. Atiku is doing that already. Sanusi is donating monies where necessary. The governors can rely on their governor friends. The list goes on. Buhari sits in Katsina and expects to win elections. Sad and very unintelligent general |
There's no wisdom in announcing your presidential ambition early. You will suffer plenty calamities for until the election. |
The best business to engage in by any count has to be one that takes advantage of Nigeria's huge population. From experience, I have concluded that the best businesses to engage in has to do with anything that NIgerians consume on a daily basis. The three things NIgerians use on a daily are Food, Fuel and Telecom Products. These three are Nigerias big money earners. Now, for Fuel and Telecoms, you have to be really big to play in that league. Food on the other hand which I think is actually bigger than both Fuel and Telecoms combined, allows for small players like us to reap big returns. Food covers everything from Fast Food and Restuarants, Drinks and Beverage manufacture, Bakery and Catering, and a huge host of other areas. Of all these areas, Food Packaging is actually the most interesting because it requires much less capital and expertise and yet gives by far the most interesting returns on investment. To put things in better perspective, the biggest companies in Nigeria have discovered the goldmine that this is and are beginning to take advantage aggressively. Dangote, Nestle, Honeywell, Golden Penny and the rest of the bigs are now packaging everything from water to salt to spices to rice and a host of other commodities. Let me just do a quick run analysis to give you a better perspective: Golden Penny owned by Flour MIlls of NIgeria, one of Nigeria's Largest companies, has just started packaging rice in smaller more attractive retail packs of 400g and they sell for 150 naira. Normally a 50kg bag of rice sells for 9500 Naira retail. 50kg bag will give you 125 packs of 400g. When sold at 150 naira each, you get 125 packs x N150 = N18750 for the same 50kg. Let's assume N10 each for packaging(usually less). 10 x 125 = 1250 naira. 9500 + 1250= 10,750.(production costs) That leaves them with a healthy profit of N18,750 ~ N10,750 = N8000 per bag of rice. That's almost 100% in profits. Now in a country with 150 million people, you know you can count on selling loads upon loads daily. Sell 10 bags and you make 80k daily. Sell 100 bags and you make 800k daily. Now that's just rice as Golden penny has chosen. There's lots of other areas crying for attractive retail packaging that can be engaged in. Lots upon lots. If you will want more info on this sector, feel free to ask questions here and I'll answer. On the other hand, if you need more specific details you can reach me on email Uyi@strategy200.com and I'll assist in anyway I can freely. The FG has just banned the importation of Table Sugar. Interestingly, 95% of the sugar consumed at home in Nigeria is imported from just one company in France- St Louis. The company will lose tens of billions because of this ban. This opens a huge opportunity for packaging of Sugar in retail packs. I'm working on a project in this light. And the Research we've conducted shows very promising signs. All in all, if you must engage in any business, you must understand the terrain or engage those that have adequate understanding. Nigeria is a massive market. Despite the challenges, the returns are always quite impressive. Food Packaging is the best I can advise you to get into with the capital you have. |
The problem with NIgerians. We fixate every problem on the FG in Abuja. Now Fashola looks like a hero for getting FERMA to patch the road. But the last I checked there are many LAgos state government roads that are in a pathetically deplorable situation. Shouldn't LG chose en be writing letters to Fashola to do something also. Lest we forget, the roads in Abuja are excellent. |
And it came to pass in the Year 2015 that her highness OLuremi Tinubu was fielded as Lagos State governorship candidate on the ACN platform, and almighty PDP finally took the reigns Of power and the catastrophic looting of Lagos state was finally transferred from the hands of King BOla TInubu to the great mafia that was the PDP. |
What a frame of thinking. This kind of mindset would work in maybe North Korea and Cuba, not in a capitalist society like Nigeria and worse still in a field ( internet)that is the champion of .FREEdom. Emphasis on FREE. If you think web design of 50k is what you want to do in 2013' think again. When you have world class Wordpress templates you can customize yourself and host for $17 per year. Why would I want to pay anybody 50k when I can do a better job than most of the nonsense I see many Nigerian designers showcase in their gallery. If you want to charge good money, focus on web development and not web design. Build codes that would make things easier for society instead of this your lazy approach that seeks to protect mediocrity. |
Maxymilliano: So, among all the various ills plaguing the country at the mo, it is Sanusi salary and emolument that is causing headache to some peopleThis is where you citizens keep failing. Someone has finally chosen to use the FOI effectively and you are talking nonsense. Every public officer should be made accountable to the public he serves. The FOI bill Is the citizens tool to fight corruption. It's only very sad that the we the citizens and the opposition particularly only love talking loudly so we can be heard. We should take this FOI bill and request information about everything from the exact cost components of contracts, to the salaries and allowances of public officers. It's called accountability. We fail as citizens wihen we fail to use this bill effectively. More than anything, this bill was one of Jonathans big achievements. |
Where are all the cars gone? Is there some kind of driving strike in the city? Cars are a sign of a burstling economy. It might just be that the roads are excellent because they are hardly ver used. The economy of the city looks stale. Lovely pics sha. |
When your goal from the outset is simply to upstage PDP, you're already on a wrong thing. How about a goal that is centered on correcting the failure that Nigeria is and returning us to a glorious state. That would involve more than just discussing who would be fielded to run against Jonathan and what not. It would involve discussions on who would be in the Senate & house. How the wrongs can be corrected. How infrastructure can be developed. How jobs can be created. How security can be provided et al. Building a party on the basis of upstaging PDP is like going to school so that you can wear uniform. We must come to the realization that PDP, despite an obvious dismal performance is a very popular party amongst the masses and that's why they keep winning elections. Go to the villages, motor parks and markets across the country and you will see why PDP is popular. If the new party must tick, then it must focus on building structures for itself and not lamenting on the pages of newspapers about PDP this, PDP that. After all 90% of opposition members were all once PDP . Check El Rufai,(CPC) Okorocha,(APGA) Ribadu,(ACN) Mimiko(Labour) et all. We the masses see all the parties as the same. |
With all the almajiris waiting in the wings, Somalia is an understatement. Imagine a country where Boko Haram would be used to maintain law and order. On a more serious note, before we start dreaming of a CPC government in Abuja, let's go to Nasarawa state where they have Governor and find out what's happening there.Absolutely nothing. Zero. At least PDP has produced AKpabio, Amaechi, Chime and the likes.ACn has produced Fashola and Oshiomole. Labour has produced Mimiko. APGA has given us Okorocha. The only thing we know about CPC is Buhari and election losses, Buhari and election violence.Buhari and the death of corpers. CPC is a northern Muslim party and they do not hide their outlook. They currently do not have a single serving Christian politician and in the last election ensured that 90% of their fielded candidates were Muslims. Somalia is an understatement. Imagine Somalia, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq all in one country. |
Desola: We need to learn to consider others in all that we do.The funny thing you failed to realize is that the areas of Lagos being decorated belong to Igbos and other tribes. Non indigenes populate the Island by a massive 80/20 ratio. You should go to you Governors office and check the C of O and Governors consent data. You would be amazed to see how much of Lagos you actually do own. Igbos and other non indigenes would be super excited because their niegbourhoods are lighted up. |
The thing I dont understand is how they keep talking about hoiw these things would affect the North. Wouldn't it also affect the South West(minus Ondo) and the South East minus(Imo & Abia)?? It is just disheartening when you see people try to destroy the nations progress for selfish reasons. One thing is funny that these northern leaders haven't realized.' While they are fighting over oil, the South South states are investing heavily in non oil sectors. While the parasites are worrying over how to suck more oil from other peoples backyard, the South South is looking beyond oil. Cross Rivers investment in Tourism is yielding good fruit.'In a few years, the state would earn more from tourism than it ever gets from oil. Its a pity Tinapa didn't kick for this same 'lets develop equally reason" that Northerners always present. Rivers state has just started the construction of a massive $150 Million dollars farm complex in partnership with the Isrealis. Very soon, the Northern leaders would ask to share the money from farm proceeds from Rivers. Delta State is positioning itself as a Logistics Hub. With two very standard & functioning airports, Seaport, adequate inter city road linkages, the Warri Industrial Business Park and a couple others. Akwa Ibom is doing excellenty. Edo state is a magnet for Tourism & Agriculture and hopefully Bayelsa would come up with something soon. Let them keep struggling over oil. The owners of the oil are looking beyond oil. Its only a matter of time. The south south wouldn't give a hoot anymore about oil. |
otokx: How many hours did the train take to reach Offa from Lagos? How many weeks will the train take to reach Kano from Lagos? How many hours does it take a trailer to move from Offa to Lgaos?? Have you ever travelled on the highway to see the strain these heavy vehicles place on our roads?? Anything to take haulage out of our highways would be good jare even if it takes one week from Offa to Lagos! |
Dasuki wass the former Aide De Camp to IBB. That says it all. How Jonathan kicked out his own man and appointed his enemy to take care of his security is still a mystery to me. His wife was poisoned. His closest Brother died strangely. Taraba Governor PLANE Crash Now Azazi and Yakowa. |
Business Class?? Na today?? When he starts flying First and then PJs, he can upload!! |
serialeco: I lost the system that memorized my wife's youwin password. Can their support system resend her password? As long as you still have the email that was used to open it, you can ask for a pasword reset. Its instant and automatic. |
I worked together with someone on her project and her name is on the list!! Very very glad. There's is nothing as nice as when you see merit taking its place over cronyism. We just simply put together an excellent project, submitted online on the 28th of October and checked yesterday and her name is on the list for a 9 million Naira project. In previous times, only those that had connections in high places would've had their names shortlisted. Nigeria is surely changing. The president's hands might be a little wobbly, but its surely having impact in very many places. Excited! Excited. Excited!! |
Imagine Christians in Lagos celebrating Fashola's(God Forbid) demise! |
There is so much potential in this country if we can get some of the basics (electricity, good roads) right. I am happy to hear this news for personal reasons...developments like this mean a higher chance of me being able to move back to Nigeria some day.
Things are picking up quite impressively. The interesting thing is that these companies are making tonnes of money despite the decrepit infrastructure. Imagine the impact when roads get better, power supply rises and human capital improves. |
dayokanu: Port Harcourt is the Oil capital of Nigeria so lets exclude it from the South southPort Harcourt had no Federal designation of sort. The only major Federal presence there is the refinery. But Warri and Kaduna also have refineries. There was no special infrastructure built in Port Harcourt that made it rise above other cities.Infact Warri was better positioned as an oil capital than Port Harcourt, but Port Harcourt still outpaced Warri in development by a long short. If you mentioned Calabar, it would have made more sense. Lagos thrives on Federal Infrastructure, same as Abuja. Build a functional seaport in Port Harcourt and watch as the relevance of Apapa would slide significantly. And don't get me wrong. I love the SW, thats why I speak this way. I schooled briefly in Ife before leaving Nigeria, so I know the quality of South Westerners. No region is as united and organised as the SW.But for too long it has gloried in its past and celebrated the legacies of Awo. While this was being done, other regions were rising. The SE has taken over Education & Industry. The SS has taken over Wealth and Media. The glory must be restored and the DAWN agenda is an excellent starting point. |
@papaBrownie Well if Lagos isn't part of the SW, then Onitsha also isn't part of the SE, neither is Rivers part of the SS. The SW was the most progressive region before we were all bunched under a federating unit and this is what we have chosen to re-establish. The Western region was a minimum of 50yrs ahead of other regions and if we had continued at that pace, SA would currently be Africa's number two I know a lot of people will be pained by this move but no force in the world can stop an idea whose time has come. Yorubaland o no baje
Lagos is the commercial capital of Nigeria and it served as our Federal capital for ages. Lagos, just like Abuja, are melting pots for the whole country. Lagos got the infrastructure it has because it was and still is the centre of our collective institutions. Monies from other regions including the SW were used to develop the Bridges, the Airport, the roads and the myraid of infrastructure that dots the city. It wasn't the ingenious of indigenous Lagosians that made the city what it is, it is the design of british colonial masters and the input of people from every part of the country. We all built Lagos. It belongs to all of us. We live in it.We love it. The SW was the most progressive region in the country. Everything was working right under Awo. I love Tinubus renaissance move. Let the south west rise again. The DAWN agenda must work. The current statistics are not interesting at all. Anytime you check what new thing has happened in the SW over the years, you shudder. Nothing! Absolutely Nothing. Cross River Built Tinapa. Uyo is building major projects. Delta has two of the best airports in the country. Edo is experiencing a renaissance. Rivers is building a monorail, a new city and many major projects. Enugu has tried with the polopark.I heear a lot about Imo these days. Lagos is building tonnes of major projects including the Eko Atlantic. A whole lot across the south and nothing in the SW. I want to see a beautiful Osogbo. I want Ibadan to take its rightful place. I grew up hearing that Ibadan was the largest city in Africa. How about Ile-Ife, what of Abeokuta. All these places have potential. They should wake up jare. See how Onitsha and Aba, decrepit as they are, both bustling in commerce. The SW need the DAWN to succeed. |
truth4meal: @papaBrownieMaybe you didn't get my point. The potential of the south west is underutilized. The southwest should be far better than it is today for two reasons 1)it had a headstart way beyond other parts of the country and 2) its proximity to Lagos. Everything I stated is a matter of fact. You can check the statistics. They are available to the public. The whole of the SW has two airports- Ibadan and Akure- Both of them have considerably less passenger traffic than Uyo. The south south has 7 very functional airports with more than 20 times the passenger traffic of the SW despite a much larger population. I am trying to say, the DAWN agenda is excellent. The south west has suffered enough. Other regions have left it behind despite its potential. We dont want the south west looking like the North while the rest of the south including Lagos makes considerable progress. Thats my point. |
Mercies oh Mercies! What nonsense. Who on earth put together this piece of crap! So Ije grossed 60 Million in the box office that means the two major actresses would share that equally. Mercies oh Mercies. What nonsense. How about the Executive producer, the Director and the rest of the cast? How about the technical crew and all the cameos that appear. What about the equipments hired. And the venues rented. And the Editing. And the costumes. And the marketing company. And the distribution company. And the cinema that showed the movie. And the list goes on. What nonsense. Who put this piece of crap together and how come whoever put it on the frontpage couldn't see the anomalies. This got to be the most well written piece of crap I've seen in ages! Mercies! |
I am happy that the south west is waking up and this should happen faster than it has. If you remove Lagos, which I usually don't classify as South West(It is the Center of Nigeria), the rest of the south west hasn't moved an inch since the demise of Awolowo. No Southwest state can be described as making real progress. The infrstructure is horrible. The cities are stuck in the 40s. There is virtually no industrial or commercial base. Absolutely nothing happening. Ibadan is a sad place. Abeokuta is the same forever. Osogbo & Ogbomosho- God have mercy on these places. Ado Ekiti- a sad example of Zero progress. Ile Ife with all the academics should have been a center of yoruba civilization, but it is still a very rural town. Its only Akure that has some semblance of progress. You would have taught these state would take advantage of thier proximity to Lagos, but no its the other way round. Compare these to the South South or even the South East. The south south we understand has oil but even places without oil have made progress. See what happened to Calabar. It leapfrogged from a sleepy place to one of the most attractivee Urbans in the country without oil revenues. South south cities like Port Harcourt, Calabar, Uyo, Benin City, Warri, Asaba have made a more remarkably better progress than all the South West cities. To put things in perspective, all the cities I mentioned have very functional Airports, the smallest of which(Uyo) has more passenger traffic than all the five states of the southwest combined. The South East has an industrial and commercial base which is born naturally out of the entrepreneurial spirit of the South Easterners. Infact, Onitsha which is about 500km away trades with Lagos more than 5 times the volumes that Ibadan, a larger city and just 150km away does. Also more passengers fly out of Enugu than all the airports in the south west combined. These statistics are not good. The south west has to wake up and go back to its glorious days. I'm happy with the new dawn. It has potential if it is implemented properly. But I think south westerners should harness the opportunities that come with their proximity to Lagos, Nigeria's center and power house. Other states are doing this excellently. A good example is the media sector. South Southerners have taken advantage of the excellent business environment that Lagos provides and establiushed the best media houses the country has. A little rundown: AIT- Raymond Dokpesi (Edo) Channels- John Momoh (Edo) SilverBird- Ben Bruce (Bayelsa) Thisday - Nduka Obiagbena(Delta) Guardian- Alex Ibru(Delta) Vanguard- Sam Amuka(Delta) Ovation- Dele Momodu(Edo) The list is endless. And my point is simple. The south west states should take advantage of the benefit Lagos provides and develop a base for themselves as against the current situation where Lagoss virtually sucks life out of all these states. |
JomoGbomo2: I listened to this prayer from begining to the end and i realized something....` This is where we always get it wrong. We think the President should be blamed for all the failures. Truth is everyone has a responsibility towards Nigeria. If the President fails to perform, then he takes responsibility for his failure to act right. If his ministers fail, they take responsibility too. If the House of Reps believe he is not performing, they fail in not starting an impeachment proceeding. And the list goes on. If you as an individual believes he has failed, why haven't you done anything about it. Who are you waiting for. Why cant you organize rallies that would snowball into a revolution that would kick him out. Are you not Human like him? Or does he or the other folks around him have two brains or four hands. Isn't it humans like you that started change in their fellow countries across the world? If you are not doing anything besides talking about what you believe is a bad situation, what moral justification do you then have to critique someone else(GEJ), just like you, has has the advantage of doing something about a bad situation and has done nothing in your opinion. Responsibility is a two way street. And don't get me wrong. I dont disagree with you point. |
JomoGbomo2: I listened to this prayer from begining to the end and i realized something....` This is where we always get it wrong. We think the P |
alj harem: My brother, you know after having a deep think about all this issues facing Nigeria. I have come to realise that it is not really the "President" that can change this country but his subordinates ie ministers, governors etc.I have also come to this realization Alhaji. But I think more than just Ministers and Governors, the civil service and the Local Governments have to have the right attitude. Anytime I'm in Lagos I always wonder that with all Fashola is said to have done, much of Lagos still holds some of the most horrid human abodes on the face of the planet. These places will experience change only when those directly responsible actually implement their tasks. |
Hehe!! Its all about a billion dollars these days! So much money! |
