PoliticsRe: North Shops For Vice-Presidential Candidate by PapaBrowne(m): 2:58pm On Mar 10, 2013
The beginning of failure. Again, they have started the exact same thing.

The word Northern Muslim Candidate is anathema in the Southern and middle belt Nigeria!!
One of the reasons Jonathan won the last elections with ease was the entitlement mentality that the northerners displayed!

Which southerner or middle beltan is going to vote Northern Muslim Candidates who have totally refused to condenm Boko Haram, tell their subjugates that Boko Haram is a US/FG/Christian attempt at frustrating Islam and at the same time ask the FG to grant this same Boko Haram amnesty.

Yes we are scared of Nothern Muslim Candidates. What we want is Nigerian candidates! People who can transcend cultures and tribes! We dont care what state he is from, we just want him to be Nigerian. Ribadu is a Nigerian. Dangote is a Nigerian. Marwa is a Nigerian. Buhari on the other hand is a Northern Muslim Candidate. We will refuse him for the forth time since he is trying to prove to us that he is insane by living up the phrase: Doing the same thing with the same method and expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity!
PoliticsRe: Will Our Generation Ever Witness Constant Power Supply? by PapaBrowne(m): 2:23pm On Mar 10, 2013
I remember back in the days when if you want to make or receive a call, you would go to NITEL office and wait in line for hrs. After the long wait, the call you went to make or receive would not connect.
When I left Nigeria, anytime I wanted to call home, somebody would have to go to Shell Office to go and wait for my call. And that was a serious privilege because you didn't have to wait on any line.

But alas the system was privatized and we now all have mobile phones and Internet at ridiculously cheap prices

The FG has just done for the power sector the same thing that was done for the telecoms sector. Don't despair, light is coming!!
PoliticsRe: Have Anyone Noticed The City Wide CCTV Cameras In Lagos?? by PapaBrowne(m): 1:17pm On Mar 10, 2013
Reptyle: The above still does not change the fact that the LASG had conceptualized and began to execute a city wide CCTV coverage project before the advent of the federal government's intervention. It also does not change the fact that while the state government successfully installed and is operating some of the said cameras, the FG project is fast devolving into another moribund project for which the country is worse off for as it represents an increase in her external debt profile.

I am not out to join issues with anyone on the merits or demerits of installing cameras in Lagos or anywhere else. I only seek to set the records straight.
You guys are becoming sooooo pathetic. You said the FG under Jonathan is not performing so you were insulting him. Now his projects are materializing and we can see that he is performing, you are now saying he should stop performing!! This has to be a new form of insanity.

Why are you angry with the FG who has supplied 1000 cctvs in Lagos in an on going project and yet you are satisfied with LASG who promised to supply 10,000 CCTVs in 2011 but supplied only 100.

Fashola bought Helicopters to improve security in the Lagos but these helicopters ended up with an oil company in Port Harcourt. ACN tribalists think its alright.
http://saharareporters.com/news-page/scam-lagos-state-helicopters-purchased-crime-fighting-are-converted-private-commercial-use

Fashola bought a boat for 8 Billion Naira claiming they wanted to use as a Hotel. The yacht is rotting away at the Marina. ACN tribalists think that is alright.
https://vml1.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Sunburn.jpg?cb5e28

But the FG installs security cameras in Lagos that would improve your security, you are here making noise!

I am a big Fan of Fashola and his works at putting in place systems that would make Lagos work both now and long time into the future.
What I dont get though is the huge tribal bias ACN followers display when good works come from outside of the ACN region!!

omonnakoda: guy why not try and be objective. It is NOT CLEAR who is going to pay the loan. I do not know and you certainly do not because we are not provided that information anywhere. The whole idea started with GEJ. That is VERY FUNNY indeed. The damn thing is a scam whoever started it LASG or the FG. although I believe LASG initiated a different scheme which I believe was also a white elephant project and a way of stealing money about 3 years ago

Why because it needs trained staff to use the data. Just like you need trained staff to read an X-ray. We do not have the staff or a plan to train them. Here in the UK which is the most CCTV'd place on earth it is useful but marginally and almost always AFTER a crime rarely as a PREVENTIVE tool.

What does collaborate mean? I am scratching my head at you guys. It means =NON_PAYING ?
You would almost think the guy making the bolded comment works at the Presidency in Abuja considering how he is 100% sure that we do not have the staff or plan to train them! To think that he lives in the UK.
The stupidity displayed by many Nigerians just stinks!! How do you know there are no trained staff or no plan to train them?? So before any recruitment or training commences, the Government will go to your house in the UK to inform you first before you will agree abi? The UK embassy should screen people first before giving them visas!! You should be deported to East Timor for displaying so much unintelligence confidently!
PoliticsRe: Oshiomhole Commissions Remodelled Benin Airport by PapaBrowne(m): 10:59pm On Mar 09, 2013
bloggernaija: Waste of money for a government that is absolutely clueless .while there are more pressing issues like healthcare, pipe borne water ,agriculture etc. this government is busy wasting money on unviable airports.
A good administrator would have probably shut these glorified landing strips down baring in mind that most of them are not commercially viable . The government has to continue to fund these loss making airports from the already small capital vote.
There lies the difference between good manager and bad ones. While millions are nigerians are dying of hunger, the elites are eager to look for more space to park their toys.
A bloated federal government with too much money in her pocket without a clue of what to do with it.apart from Lagos ,port harcourt, ibadan,Enugu,Kano and Abuja.no other state has the critical mass of upper class and middle class people that would make any of this airports viable. Even some of the listed states have question mark on them?
I clap not. For this is just a further proof or lack of capability of the president and his team to lift the country out of its current doldrums and set it's priorities straight. Borrowing money to pay salaries at a time of high oil prices and spending money like a drunken sailor. The same thing shagari did which crashed the nigerian economy when the credit ran out.
in the past , they mortgaged your children, now they are mortgaging your country.IDIOTS.
Crass unintelligence!!
So because we dont have pipe borne water, all other forms of development should cease?? So until we raise the healthcare standards completely we shouldn't touch infrastructure? Absolute nonsense. Maybe you didn't realize that there is a reason there are different ministries covering different sectors. Maybe you didn't realise that the Aviation Ministry isn't suppose to fix healthcare or pipeborne water.

I dont understand what you mean when you say Benin airport is not commercially viable.
Have you ever been there? Do you have any figures to buttress your claim that the airport is not commercially viable?? Nonsense!!

An airport that had over 400,000 passengers last year and generated ticket sales of over 10 billion Naira and grew by 8% is not viable?? You mentioned 5 cities that you feel have a viable middle class and hence deserve airports. That has simply given you away as someone that is depending on his 1980 secondary school text book to understand the topography of current day Nigeria.
FYI Benin Airport is the 5th most viable airport in the country after Lagos, Abuja, PHC and Warri. The Ibadan Airport you mentioned had less than forty thousand passengers compared to Benin's over 400,000 passengers.

I think you are not a viable person and should not be listened to.

Nigeria would make progress whether you like it or not.

Her are statistics on passenger numbers for Nigeria airports. You can see the viable and unviable.

Plus, the hope factor is critical. This airport is seriously improved.
The nature of my job sees me welcoming business/investment type foreigners into Nigeria and boy, was it seriously painstaking whenever you meet them up at the airport and they ask you why the place is this horrible. These are people that have read that Nigeria is an excellent investment opportunity. You Start stammering immediately. Jonathan is eliminating that embarrassment and I am so glad about that!!

Pretty obvious you are one of them folks that love it when you watch CNN and hear there was a bomb blast. There's been only one blast this year and I know you aren't happy at the improved security scenario. You desperately want Boko Haram to continue bombing till 2015.
But sorry, they've been spent out and thier numbers have dwindled. There are no more bombs and the security situation has improved.
For many families that lived in fear, that is good news. For many GEJ haters, that is bad news.

koruji: Before you guys kill yourself bragging about "commissioning" these terminals can we see the BEFORE & AFTER.
That is how Fashola does it, and it is especially important because GEJ commissioned the Enugu "Airport" when no aircraft could land mooons ago.
The FG is going around town selling dummy projects & stealing state govt. project.
The man promised airports in every state and is "commissioning" re-modeled terminals.
Yet the true sons of incompetence are here singing hallelujah.

Before and after pictures from those who know, NOW!!!

Incidentally, Mr. Maku was just in Benin and failed to provide us with a picture of this "gloriously" re-modeled terminal.
Now it is before and after pictures they want to see!! Hehe, finally we are making progress!! That's a graduation!

So Fashola shows before and after pictures?? Thats interesting oh. We will copy him and do just that so as to cure your irreparable pessimism!

And please, I was asking on another thread why Fashola has failed to complete any major project in the 6 years since he became Governor. Even bad Governors like Uduaghan can boast of a completed airport. 6 years after, no new BRT lanes. 6 years after, the phase one of the light rail is less than 20% complete. 6 years after Lagos-Badagry Expressway- less than 10% complete. Lekki Epe Expressway(52km) is taking 10 years already. Lekki Free Trade Zone is empty. We used to hear of deep sea port, greenfield refinery and one airport like that they want to build in Lekki--- all of them na inside paper them dey! 6 years and $30 Billion after??

Aviation minister has been here for just 2 years and 11 airports are almost completely remodelled, with plans to complete another 11 and build 5 new terminals.

Some before and during pictures for you. I am sure the after would be provided after the commissioning.

PoliticsRe: Oil Blocs Revelation: Northern Senators Caged As PIB Sails Through by PapaBrowne(m): 2:08am On Mar 08, 2013
karl max: By HENRY UMORU & JOSEPH ERUNKE

ABUJA- AFTER three days of intense debates and contributions on the controversial Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, northern Senators were Thursday caged by their Southern colleagues and the bill unanimously scaled the second reading.

The resolution by the Senators to pass the bill was contrary to fears from some quarters especially with the initial stiff opposition from the lawmakers from the North that it will not see the light of the day.

The passage also came barely twenty four hours after the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang, PDP, Akwa Ibom North/East called on President Goodluck Jonathan to revoke and re-allocate oil blocs where he raised alarm that the Northerners control 83 percent of oil blocs in the country, leaving a negligible 27 percent for the South where the oil comes from.

Notable names like Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero; late President Umaru Yar’adua; former vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma; Sanusi Lamido; Rilwanu Lukman, among others as the owners of oil blocs in Nigeria.

The bill which passed through second reading at the upper legislative chamber, had all together 81 out of the 109 senators that spoke on it for the three days, was however referred to the Committees on Petroleum( Upstream and Downstream), Gas and Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters with a period of six weeks to organise public hearings and report back to the entire house.

The Committee on Petroleum(Upstream) has Senator Emmanuel Paulker, PDP, Bayelsa Central as Chairman; Committee on Petroleum(Downstream) has Senator Magnus Abe, PDP, Rivers South/East as Chairman; Gas Committee has Senator Nkechi Justina Nwaogu, PDP, Abia Central as Chairman, while the Chairman, Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters is Senator Umaru Dahiru, PDP, Sokoto South.

Speaking after discussions on the Bill by the Senators, Senate President David Mark who presided at the Plenary said that the PIB belongs to all Nigerians and not a part of the country Senate President, just as he said that the Bill was not the North versus the south, adding that what was good for the North was equally good for the South.

More details soon

83% + 27% is 110%. That 27% should read: leaving 17% for southerners!
PoliticsRe: Benin Airport For Commissioning Tomorrow by PapaBrowne(m):
There is trouble in the air. Some people will piss everyday in their panties because of these commissionings.

Jonathan's projects are coming on stream in droves and the haters are scampering for safety in wonderment.

Thier fear understandable. If Jonathan performs excellently, their hopes would be dashed. They want Nigeria to baraje and pafuka under Jonathan so they can lay claim to power. If he makes Nigeria great, there will be sadness in their hearts and homes!

For them, the saddest part is the fact that the daily bombings have vanished. "Why can't Boko Haram just keep bombing till 2015", they retort in thier hearts!

I'm glad to see the commisionings of these projects. That is an airport I use frequently. To think that the road to Lagos and the Airports in both Benin and Lagos are been revamped. To think that 11 other airports would also be commisioned. To think that they would build 5 new world class terminals. To think that all these are happening within such a short period(less than 2 years) just gives you even more hope!!

I am happy!! In the Nigeria I knew previously, things like these take decades or never come to fruition!! Today things are changing!

PoliticsRe: Omotosho Power Plant Ready For Commissioning by PapaBrowne(m): 10:18pm On Mar 07, 2013
When you see some comments, its pretty obvious that some folks would rather Nigeria stays in darkness than have GEJ fix power for the simple reason that they don't want him to get any credits.

GEJ haters are afraid of electricity being fixed. Left to them, Jonathan should not fix Nigeria because their bitterness and hatred would have no more channels.

When Jonathan commissions power plants, they say noooo, its OBJ or there is still no light!
When Jonathan fixes roads, they ask how much was spent on it or how long did it take or cant we get 12 lanes.
When Jonathan supports entrepreneurship through excellent programs like YOUWIN, they say where is the power to run the business.
When Jonathan revamps the rail network, they say the trains are outdated or we need high speed rails.
When Jonathan is expanding the economy through agriculture, they are asking whether na Cassava bread we go chop?
When Jonathan is fixing all the airports, they refer us to European and American airports saying why are they not as good??

The same OBJ who had 8 years to fix power but didn't add 1 MW to the grid should now take credit when GEJ with just 2 years has added more than 3000MW.
The same OBJ who had 8 years but didn't as little as paint the toilets in any airport is now better than GEJ who in 2 yrs has revamped 11 airports.
I don't want to compare OBJ with Jonathan, because it would make OBJ look like a total failure which I don't think he was. So let me stop here.

Fashola has had six years to revamp Lagos infrastructure and yet till today he hasn't completed one single mega project. One, Just one. Even bad Governors like Uduaghan have completed whole airports, but I can't credit Fashola with any single project above say N10 billion. All the large projects he has taken upon are still in their infancy or out-rightly abandoned with no hope in sight. The Lagos Badagry expressway- nothing! The light rail project- nothing! Lekki Epe expressway- incomplete! Lekki free trade zone- empty! Eko Atlantic- sand! Fourth mainland bridge- Dreamland! Tejuosho market- abandoned! One single major porojeeect- I can't find any!! Yet the man has had 6 good years! Six yeaearrrs!!! Yet ACN/APC fellas want us to believe that he is some kind of infallible creature!

These folks want Jonathan's trains to look like the ones in Dubai and Japan yet its OK when Fashola's BRT buses look like dinghis from Bangladesh.
They want Jonathan's airports to look like Schipol, but Fashola is performing when he builds schools looking like the prisons of Brazil!
When LASU students protest, they students are bad. When UNIABUJA students protest, the government is bad.

I like Fashola and I respect him because he is building good institutions and systems that would make Lagos function. But if you ask me, his 6 years and $30 billion dollars in budgets are not seen anywhere in Lagos! The city is still a dumpsite and one of the most uninhabitable enclaves on the face of the planet!

Whether we like it or not, Jonathan would fix power! Nigerians would appreciate it. If 24hrs light comes to your neigbourhood before 2015 and you feel angry at the progress Nigeria has made, you can as well disconnect from the grid and make use of generators. If you don't like the remodelled airpots, go by road. If the roads are too smooth for you, please buy Cortina and trekk to your destination.
Nigeria would progress whether you like it or hate it and the transformation has started albeit slowly!!!!

There is no more Okada in the rest of the south south. All states in the South South have moved beyond Okada and adopted better means of transport except Edo State. It's time for our comrade Governor to take a cue from the rest and join the move towards advancement. From what I've seen, Okada actually impedes the growth of better transport modes.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Economy Rated Above Ghana, UK - Fashola by PapaBrowne(m): 10:29am On Mar 06, 2013
He said, "The question I asked then was of what purpose is the tour? Do the people of Nigeria need a tour to know that they are being well governed? What is the tour supposed to achieve? Are they resolving problems at project sites? Where are their projects? What is the value of tour when you can't implement a budget? I can go on tour of projects because my budget performed 89 per cent last year.

"I am not on a good governance tour. I am on a project inspection tour trying to solve problems at project sites."

Fashola argued that the yardstick for measuring good governance could only be done by those who know, adding that the economy of Lagos is now rated ahead of Ghana and the United Kingdom.

The governor said, "Currently, the Lagos State economy is being upgraded from stable to positive, that's good governance, you don't need any campaign to do that."
So much hypocrisy going on. I respect Fashola, but seriously these guys need to know that we aren't fools.

You use a rating agency's report to say that Lagos is performing excellently. So you say Lagos is doing good.
That same report says Nigeria is performing outstandingly and has even been rated above the BRICS(excluding China) and has been placed under a new classification called MINTs and yet your party opens its mouth to say Nigeria's economy is on the brink of collapse.

The last I checked, Lagos constitutes the bulk and the base of the Nigerian economy with all the economic head offices situated here. So if as the ACN wants us to believe, our economy is on the brink of collapse, how come Fashola says Lagos performance rating is excellent!!

Its like saying, your body is about to collapse but you head is doing excellently! Hypocrisy.

I am big fan of Fashola and I don't want him to go the way of El Rufai, who has become so directionless in his baseless attack. Fashola is too intelligent for this crap!

How would it happen. These two men are potentially the best and most strategic presidential candidates the APC can have. They are the only ones that can by virtue of both charisma, geography and performance credit combined actually displace the PDP. But APC, the regional party that it is would only want to have any Northern or South Western candidates on the top ticket. These two men would be edged out when the balls are down!

Gbawe: You are not correct here. It is not about high speed trains alone. It cannot be. It is all about an efficient, flexible and varied transport mix developed through optimal cost efficiency. There are several ways I can travel to France and the Netherlands from the UK. Road, Ferry, the Euro-tunnel trains are all options facilitated by a flexible transport mix.

I fully support this effort because I believe in efficient transportation of goods and services across the West African hub to stimulate SME business growth, economic development and increase inter-continental trading between African nations. Very good development if it is not another 'lip service' exercise.

This is the best program the Government has engaged in forever. All the ladies at the training section confirmed that they didnt have to know anybody in Abuja to be selected. They simply filled out their business plans online and 6,000 applcants out of about 66,000 applications were selected.

Many of the applicants boldly requested for the highest sum possible which is 10 million Naira.
How dumb! Going to the airport with all your family cos you're traveling? What culture is that? It indicates that there are countless jobless people sitting around with nothing better to do! 4 million passengers for an international airport is a very small number. There are class B airports in the US with 50 million passengers a year. If they have nothing better to do with money at the aviation ministry, they should build a modern airport then. Last time I was there (last year), it was still crap.
And building parking spaces while the road to the airport is in a sorry state is still putting the cart before the horse. It is still the same government, no?
You sound more like one of the contractors for the parking lot grin
Not only do I dislike confident ignorance, I detest it!!"Class B airports with 50 million passengers in the U.S".Like thats news. Except perhaps you live in North Korea and are blocked off Google & Wiki.
First, most of the busiest Airports in US are all class B airport. Atlanta Hatfield which is obviously the busiest in the world is a Class B Airport. The top 15 busiest airports in the USA are all class B airports. Very few class A airports exist and they are not determined by passenger traffic.

And by the way, 4 million International passengers a year is big for Africa, at least it ranks in top 5. About fixing the road, the works ministry has a bigger priority to use its scarce resources on death traps like Benin Ore, Enugu Onitsha, Benin Lokoja road before thinking of beautifying the MMA road. That should not stop the Aviation Ministry from prioritizing a parking lot. Its like telling a Chemistry teacher to stop teaching chemistry because the biology teacher is sick and cant come to school.

Last time I was there (last year), it was still crap.
Last time I was at Dallas Fort Worth, the airport was undergoing remodelling just like the MMA.It looked like crap to me too. I saw somewhere that it would take 7 years to complete and wondered why so long?? Your mouth like crap. Improvements are being made instead of you to appreciate you are running your mouth. Nothing wrong with critiquing, but let it be constructive. Once again, I dont just dislike confident ignorance, I detest it!!
