olapluto: I have been pausing and replaying that highlight. Honestly, Nnadozie did no wrong. She moved as soon as the French player made to kick the ball. She was behind the line then and only moved when Renard moved to kick. Anyone can pause play at any time, but VAR chose to pause it after Nnadozie's feet had landed on the ground. Such minor details can be interpreted in any way. The moment the VAR paused to show Nnadozie off the line, the ball was already in the air.
I am 100% sure if a good video editor pauses the frame when Renard actually touched the ball, Nnadozie will be behind the line. She did no wrong!
Damn I cant sleep, just having flashbacks to this VAR goon Danny MAKKELIE. VAR should be for clear and obvious miss. The referee was well positioned for the pen, and she did not give it. It is easier to see contact when things are slowed down. Our mumu NFF all have figureheads. They should have rejected an European VAR ref when playing an European team. You’re correct on the bolded. If a referee has an unobstructed view of an incident, and decides it’s not a penalty, then it shouldn’t be a penalty. VAR should ONLY be used when a referee has missed an incident, or where his/her view was obstructed. Now, the rule about keepers keeping only one foot on the line is one of the most ridiculous I’ve ever see in any sport. The rule unfairly hurts female goalkeepers due to their physiology. If you want the rule to stay in place, you’re better off telling goalkeepers to leave the post and allow the taker to kick the ball into an empty net. |

olapluto: The first yellow Ebere got was not a yellow, the 2nd yellow was double punishment for a cheap cheap pen. Everything about officiating stinks. The same VAR guy who didnt give us anything against Norway was drafted to this match. Surely that should never happen. You cannot have a VAR ref from same confederation as one of the teams playing. They could NEVER have an Malawian VAR ref if Nigeria plays Portugal for example. Only Africans are treated this way.
Personally, I doubt we will qualify. The whole thing has been fixed. New Zealand will likely get a dodgy penalty too just to keep the 2nd round white. If anything, the Ebere “penalty” should not have resulted in another yellow card. It’s not every foul that leads to a booking. The ref could have just gone on with it. Even BBC said it was quadruple punishment for Nigeria. With regards to the VAR, why couldn’t FIFA choose one from, say, Asia or South America? Or they trying to tell us that it was only Makkelie that was competent enough to head the VAR team? BTW, with the way Cameroon plays, it won’t be difficult for them to concede penalties or concede through a set piece |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 12:10am On Jun 18, 2019 |
olapluto: Everything about that 2nd pen is a farce. 1. The new IFAB rule says encroachment or keeper off the line should not be reviewed by VAR. It is a decision for the ref, same way VAR does not check yellow cards. 2. You rightly pointed out. Nnadozie did not influence the miskick. She was doubly punished for the French poor play.
FIFA really stinks to high heavens of corruption. Damn!! Im really pissed. I dont think this team is strong enough to go on. I heard in the press conference from French Journalists that Nnadozie was crying unconsolably in the hallway and saying we were cheated. Dennerby was very angry and only answered 2 questions before throwing down the mic at the press conference. Even if we qualify, we are really broken by the way the match turned out. You’re spot on about the mental part of the game. If Nigeria eventually qualifies, the girls may be too scared to even attempt to touch the ball when it’s between her and the opponent, fearing that the referee will issue her a yellow card. It’s truly sickening!! |

Somewhere in the world, Platini and Blatter are laughing their heads off.. They warned us that too much technology in football would eventually ruin the game, and today’s match, in addition to some other games in the World Cup have vindicated them |

You know what, the longer this farce goes on, the longer I’ll begin to side with people who believe that VAR was only implemented to favor FIFA/UEFA’s favorite team |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 9:57pm On Jun 17, 2019 |
Well, the ladies fought a good fight. How the Referee would consult VAR when she was like 4 feet away from the incident, beats my imagination.
I’m 100% sure VAR checked whether French players encroached in the penalty box |

olapluto: Analysts in the house....can we stay disciplined till last minute? Or the 9ja madness will enter for 1 minute and we ruin things? Any subs? I'll bring Ajibade in 65 mins just in hope she can find one through ball. Otherwise, we've been solid defensively. Yes. We need Ajibade in this game. She’s the one player that can spring those through-passes to both Oshoala and Oparanozie. I’d take off Okobi, who has been ineffective so far |

Icon4s: Those ones. None of their national teams ever makes it out of the group stage of any world cup.
The only time was the 2009 WYC. That's the Erasmus and Maluleka's set. It must be painful for them, despite their organizational prowess when it comes to preparing for tournaments. Their plight just goes to show you that you need BOTH organization AND individual talent to succeed on the global stage |

semid4lyfe: Best approach in my opinion. There's no way we're gonna boss the midfield and control possession.
The players don't play close enough to each other, press high enough and their marking is poor as they leave pockets of spaces for opposing players to run into.
Containment should be our first priority with counter attacks being used with Ordega and Oshaola serving as the outlets.
If we can be defensively solid, we can get a draw or a shock victory. Well said. A 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 formation would suit the team right. Any attempt to try to out-possess the French would be fatal (football-wise of course). |

olapluto: How Nigeria can qualify for next round: 1. Beat France by 4 goals or more and we could top the group. 2. Beat France by 1 goal or so and we finish 2nd if South Korea beat or draw Norway. 3. Draw against France and we finish oh 4 points. 90% chance of qualifying as 3rd best team. We could also finish 2nd if we draw France and Korea beat France. 4. Lose to France by reasonable margin, 1 goal or 2 goals, and we finish with 3 points and -3 goals difference. That might mean we are out of the tournament. It is expected that around 5 teams will finish 3rd with 3 points. 5. Lose to France by 1 goal, and Korea beat Norway by 4 goals, then we finish 2nd.
Best chance of qualifying: Play France with sense, we can lose but must not lose by more than 1 goal. If we make it to next round, we face Germany. #s 2,3, and 4 are the most likely scenarios. TBH, I don’t see Korea beating Norway, going by their inept displays so far. |

The only way the Super Falcons can get a draw on Monday is if the French take it easy on us.
After all, France only needs a draw to win the group; and they would be mindful of avoiding unnecessary injuries and/or yellow cards. So, there is an incentive for them to not go full-throttle on Monday.
I think Dennerby could deploy the 3-5-2 formation in the match as follows:
——-—-Ohale——Nwabuoku——Ebi——
—-Ordega——Ayinde—Chikwelu—C. Okeke—Ebere—-
————————-Oshoala——Oparanozie———-
Yes, I believe Chidinma Okeke can do a job for the Falcons in the midfield. She can’t be worse than Okobi - the supposed AMF - who can barely string a through pass. |

Icon79: Our first goal - I looked at it from different angles and it looks like the ball struck Oparanozie's hand. I don't know the angle the VAR folks used but all the angles shown on the TV here (Fox Soccer Channel) looks like the ball touched her hand.
The Korean equalizer - the Korean player was onside. They even put a line through the field and it shows that she was on. Lucky for us, the ref decided not to check the VAR on that one.
O pari I also watched the Fox Sports angle, and the replays were, at best, inconclusive on whether Oparanozie handled the ball. The motion of her fist towards the ball could deceive someone to come to a definite conclusion that it hit her hand. But watching closely, the pace and direction of the ball did not change after the Korean player volleyed it towards her goal. On the disallowed Korean goal, VAR clearly showed that the right shoulder of the Korean player was ahead of the 2nd to last Nigerian player. So, she was clearly (even if by millimeters) offside there. |
