If you feel you don't like the taxes, better leave the market for the association. In as much as you still stick around, then you would have to pay all levies proposed for the proper management of the market.

Let anybody willing to protest go ahead to participate in the one ongoing in their respective states of origins. Enough of non indigenes capitalizing on LAGOS cosmopolitan structure to constitute nuisance, creating avenue for the perpetration of their hate against their host state, pretending to be south westerners because of the privilege of being able to speak the language.

GOD BLESS LAGOS

PoliticsRe: Santiago Stocker Makes Case For Seaport & Infrastructures In South East by PHAYOL81:
SmartyPants:
Well, I don't know too much about the 60s but the reality is that as of today the Lagos - Ibadan axis is probably by far the largest population centre in Nigeria today, and with good spending power! Is this a bad thing?

It is not as though it was designed this way to spite the Igbos. In fact, the Igbos have taken advantage of this to establish large trading networks. So I think, really, there is no marginalization in the sense that everyone enjoys the fruit of Lagos - Ibadan commercial viability.

Was there any marginalisation involved in how this viability came about? I don't think so at all. Historically, Lagos has always been a nerve centre because of its strategic location, leading both the Portuguese and the British, and even the Benins before them to make Lagos their central port and for the British, their Nigerian colonial capital. Lagos then developed naturally as a capital city, the same way Abuja is doing. None of this was done to spite anybody.

So when you look at the situation of Lagos as a major population centre you should understand that it was already a major hub long before independence, with considerable colonial resources already devoted to it. Naturally, those Nigerians seeking to make a success of themselves gravitated towards the colonial centre, which then became the first national capital. What that meant was that the best and brightest of Nigerians were drawn to Lagos leading to further innovation and development such as in the growth of the indigenous financial sector.

Similarly, before you talk about establishing a seaport in the East, you have to first ensure that it will be economically viable either for import or for export. If it is for import as is done in Lagos, then the question is, where is the population?

Secondly, what will be the economic impact of situating a seaport in Igboland as of today, when Igboland is already a hub of manufacturing but still in its growth phase? The significance of Igbo industries being in a growth phase is that:

1. If you say you want to increase imports without first increasing population, then you're saying you want to drown those growing industries

2. If you say you want to increase exports, then you are saying you want to compete in a global market that you are not yet ready for.

The conditions for a seaport are simply not there - not economically, not geographically, and even in terms of security.

We are focusing on the wrong things as a nation out of greed and rivalry.

As I've said so many times, what we should be doing is harnessing our respective competitive advantages, not competing. Igbos are good at manufacturing and trade - why not manufacture and distribute to the rest of Nigeria? A seaport will not give you any advantages at this time, and not having one is not evidence of marginalization!
YOU honestly don't have to give this long sermon for them. If they believe they need seaport, let them invest in it. Nigeria didn't build Apapa for Lagos. They inherited and expanded it, owing to its unarguable viability. And when LAGOS GOVERNMENT felt like they needed another, they looked for investors to partner for its realization. Lekki seaport got approval same way the proposed IBAKA/IBOM got approval from the BUHARI led FG, but while LAGOS went ahead to make it happen, the AKWA IBOM government instead was merely playing around, building a mega church project that has little economic benefit for the state (waiting on either FG or imaginary investors that they hardly sought for). If any SE government believe in the viability of the port project, they can seek approval for it and start. It's that simple.

Greenback:
Shut up ya mouth if you don't know anything.
The federal government thru noa and NNPC have ports in Lagos, port Harcourt,Calabar, warri before those privately owned ports all over Lagos and the deltas. So which port belongs to the federal government in the east to open up the place?!
THE guy you quoted was right. All the ports you mentioned were inherited by FG from the colonial era, not built by FG. When the serious state wanted another, they sought approval and investors to get it done. A mere DANGOTE too has a mini seaport in LEKKI to facilitate his refinery logistics services easily. If Dangote can do it, what stops a state governor from doing same if the state believes they need one like DANGOTE? You've heard of LEKKI DEEP SEAPORT too, it's an investment of LASG under PPP in hope to improve the IGR. If SOUTH EAST governors believe in ports, seek investors too or borrow loan to do it. Or must FG go out of their way to build yours?

Greenback:
Was there NNPC when the colonialists were still around?
All federal government ports in Lagos and the deltas are established and operated by the NNPC. There's one run by npa in Calabar. These weren't in existence or operation in the colonial era. They belong to the federal government. I know all these cos I'm a seaman and I sail these places and don't ever assume that everyone else is Igbo cos I am not.
Fisrt of, you ain't seaman else you'd have seen years of establishment of some facilities at the seaport. Tell me, which other Apapa port was the LAGOS colony using to transport palm oil, groundnut, timber, cocoa, rubber, et all before amalgamation? What year was Apapa port established and which FG government established it?
Secondly you're IGBO. DON'T sweat it, you are. A yoruba man knows APAPA predated NIGERIA and NNPC. And an ignorant YORUBA guy would rather not try hard to debunk information he has no knowledge about, especially against his tribe. He would rather go ahead to research if the information is true if he's adamant not to be bias. Besides, your stance perfectly reflected the IGBOs as handed down to them by their begrudging forefathers and then, parents.
FG inherited Lagos air and seaport. LAGOS AIRPORT too was before NIGERIA, no FAAN, no NNPC, no NPA when they all started. Like telecommunication, power generation facilities, television transmission network that were acquired and expanded by NITEL, NEPA, and NTA respectively when NIGERIA acquired LAGOS, same way FAAN and NPA got the ports too. Nigeria merely changed and expanded them till some of them interconnect to newly built facilities nationwide.

You minding the LP apologists and cyber mobs? They reason in a very unique way hence I wasn't surprised when a couple of them attributed the construction of the LRMT red line rail to President TINUBU embezzling the national fund on the development of the Lagos rail. Under one year? Sometimes, you wonder why some of them must have misplaced their brains before coming to the public space to denote senselessness. God help us.

Onanuga said people forget easily, no they hardly do, they merely pretend some certain things hadn't ever happen to push a propaganda or political unrest. They know what they're doing. Tell them certain things (which they've been making them look like new problems)had always been happening pre-Tinubu administration and they'll quickly tell you it wasn't in this tough degree. They know what they're doing but pushing the propaganda in hope to put their failed candidate in good light but more woes await them if only they know.
