I like the banter on this thread, its great. This is what nairaland should be like.devoid of ethnic sentiments and great on collating diverse views That said.I think serap only instituted that case as an academic excercise. In truth we need to get to stage were we pit National good above self. Nigeria put a demand on twitter for accountability,as the accountability champions I dont see why serap should have a problem with that except of course that to sue the FG is their knee jerk response to every perceived problem real or imagined. But then serap ought to know when National interest is at stake. The real question then is how patrotic is serap and her board. |
That said that does not stop those with positions on any unresolved issues from the end sars protest to still engage Goverment constructively and find a way to establish, confirm and resolve such matters. But not through a call to total anarchy |
Aarenaija [quote author=OlowoJustice:Anybody with tactical sense will get it was a cordinated attack on the city. In times of war what soft targets to you go for to make a political statement. Structures that deal with representation of power (obas palace and Governors mums house) transportation (Major road of commerce blocked,280 BRT buses and terminal of Oyingbo line) radio and TV (they were going to burn channels) ,amongst others. They want us to belive hoodlums randomly sat down ,selected and burnt these strategic locations many km apart and not a whole street. All this is clearly aimed at disparaging the State and its leadership (which by the way is the best in the country on all sectors save perhaps agriculture) .Let them continue. We too we get sense. Let the real lagosians hear and learn. Protect your home with positive words and actions.Lagos must not fall to enemies of the State in our time |
Lagos is a city of 25 million persons. Any attempts at disturbing the Peace of the city must not be handled lightly. Imagine the implication of complete anarchy in Lagos? Imagine what it takes to prevent that. The peace walk is one of such.Greiviancrs in Lagos MUST not be addressed through protests that blockade an area area or any road for that matter. The city cannot afford it That protest led to loss of lives all over Lagos.hoodlums entered peoples homes in braod day lights and shot many, police men were killed, prisoners were set loose on the streets and still the so called protest organizers felt no big deal in those loses ,let anarchy be the order of the day and the protest continued. The save Nigeria group protest they modelled after called everyone in the momment a curfew was declared, when will end sars organizers take responsibility for the protesters been at that venue when they should have been on their way home. Why would the Govt wait till the last few hrs before the curfew was about to begin to harm the citizens it deliberately avoided despite showing great restraint for a longer period. The protesters in response burnt down Lagos.Arsonists burnt down an entire new terminal and over 280 buses, burnt down the Governors mothers house, burnt down peoples properties, went on a killing and looting spree on the streets of Lagos, still in the name of protests...yet Lagos did not give a shoot at site order."Awon boys" on the side on Lagos held their peace..... we did not hear shim in retalitaion At what stage do we all take responsibilty for the fragile peace of lagos that we met there and take for granted.... Who rembers Lagos in the 80's when robbers used to move in gangs of 30's and rob entire streets. When Oshodi was a place you were sure to be robbed and where your bag will definately be slashed.Where apapa was certain of car robbery amd highway robbery of commuters, and mile 2 and mile 12 was a whole cesspool of criminality That is not the Lagos of today and it has taken a loooot of effort to keep the wild city under control, the agberos and lagos boys on payroll are still there but they are in check.why would anyone who claims to be for the city want to change that narrative? How are the youths making it better for their time |
May his soul rest in peace. Why has there been no mention of the other biys narrative? Abi they dint have mouth? Why is the school speaking for them. Where are the persons he accused? |
Omode gbon, agba gbon, lafi da ile ife. Those are the principles of the yoruba people LASU SUG has done the right thing. The day your people come calling for you to stand with them. You must never be found wanting.LASU SUG must also position itself as the middle ground for presenting matters as relates to youths and propose solutions in recomendations for the State.Take that mantle since they all refused it.And yes you have the locus. Lagos must note and reward these ones. Do it silently ,note it down for a 10 year period. That is how soceities from ancient times have been buildt by the codes they uphold. As for the ones amongst us that burnt Lagos and those that stood bye edging them on,and those that laughed and called it a joke. The ones that foolishly deride its peoples leadership and attempts at harmony and social cohesion all for cheap pop culture clout.we see you.Im sure majority of you don't even pay any tax of any sort to the state.we also have a saying for you. K'osi bi omo se l'aso to...... if you are yoruba you know the rest The true leaders of Lagos must also note these ones and ensure that when there are priviledges and honour associated with its patronageand State status they must not partake in it. Please ensure a desk makes them file thwir tax returns regularly, this is to ensure they are contributing somehow to the assets that were burnt down.Even it takes 100 years. Lastly ,This post is a rallying call for all yoruba sons and daughers,(the ones that are not bastards). The day that you are all called for that peace walk,if you are available and ifs convienient turn up for Lagos. If you are not , send chin chin.Thats how we roll. Eko o ni baje o! |
Peace is the duty and responsibility of all, Justice is the responsibility of strong institutions held accountable by laws and legal frameworks It is everyones responsibility to keep the peace. The over 60 age bracket you all complain about form only about 5% of our population now and the ones less than 20 years over 50% of our population. All those young persons inciting the youths to turn against the leaders should know its a very dangerous trend.Rather let us all collectively call for and maintain the peace of our land while we clamour for stronger institutions (not with protests) but withconstructive engagement. example of the year is the group that engaged with police and got them to sign up for a missing persons data base. They did not get that by protest. We need the youths ,we need the fresh ideas, lets find a peaceful way to make this happen. We have only one Lagos. Its taken a lot over the years to keep the city peacefull, its our generations turn,Lets keep the peace. |
Which taxes? Definayely not VAT though.Education is exempt from significant taxation. Someone should please clarify what kind of tax That said education should be exempt from taxes in educationally disadvantaged states such as Zamfara. They should go and create an enabling enviroment for real taxes and stop disturbing schools they did not support in anyway. So the parents that are managing ro put meagre school fees together should be subsidizing their bad bussiness enviroment with their taxes. Ko make sense . |
TuFab:I have had a rethink o...naming pawns abobaku may be promoting and endorsing electoral violence. I think its beyter we all go with the iranse suggestion for this reason |
Many thanks to this great ambasaddor of the yoruba culture. A culture dies when its not written. Note not when its not spoken, but when its not written. The names of the pieces are actually hilarious.Pawns are the real MVP in chess.their not just the iranse but the abobakus. Excellent description, although the secret is they can become anything they choose to be as long as they make it to the other side. That said heres a funfact. The yoruba language in its correct use is mastery of the act of description. Talk of how things are named in yoruba and you'll know the language is creative and encourages descriptive expression Ask for he translation of Telephone- Radio- And my favourite, the phrase gudugudumeje yahyah mefa translated excellent. It was a whole story summarized by the yorubas.they asked what was the white mans feedback and they replied he said good 7 Times, " gudugudu meje, and yeah yeah 6 times "yahyah mefa" And that ladies and gentle men is how the cute phrase gudugudu meje yahyah mefa came to be. So here on the pages of nairaland as a son of the soil, I support abobaku for the naming of the pawn.(e.g this describes aptly the agberos of Lagos). We need someone to second this so it becomes endorsed. Modified. I have had a change of thought on this nomination. So as not to promote or endorse electoral violence I propose supporting the adoption of iranse instead of abobaku as the yoruba nomenclature for the pawns |
I have held my comments as well on this till the final report is out.this is a sensitive matter for all concerned and the country at large But i must provide this advice to lagos state.the report dwelt more on its proceedings than actual forensic analysis and Lagos state must correct that gap with its review and a follow up shadow report The lagos shadow report must be balanced and the opportunity must be used to demonstrate the real impact of the end sars protest. Who was mudered and who was injured in the whole of lagos during the whole period in question ,what kind of injury led to their demise and where.all morgues in Lagos must be visited. Also invite external corroborating team on that report process.cnn and local media is good only then will the process be deemed true and fair This is very important for posterity and the failure to set clear narratives must not be allowed ,this is to ensure the full scale and effects of the protest is documented and sanctions on the response of state ,its agencies and everyone trully culpable in the mayhem is trully guided |
What if they were accussed wrongly. What if others use it to accuse people wrongly.Theres no way this is right in any sane soceity. this is retarded behavioir by the community |
More news like this is good. The agency should promote themselves and their achievements if true.forget all this bad mouth people |
AntiBMC:This is creatively cruel. You should consider creative writing. |
post=107314517:I saw that too. Those words should be on marble. Well crafted words that reaffirm themselves at a trying time in their history. |
post=107295041:This post is irresponsible. Why does seun not moderate threads like this. This is a serious matter not a joke |
Children should not be kidnapped anywhere.Children should not be made to walk endurance treks through bushes at gun point wih terrorists.Thats terror.Thats evil.Children should not be a target. Everyone should not quietly tolerate this as normal. Anyone ,everyone with any authority, influence or power should speak up on this. Teams should be out finding and recovering them .The terrorists team that tried that crap MUST be caught and dealt with appropriately These are children how can a Nation, state, people, fail it's children like this, how? If this doesn't move the right authorities and the people then something is wrong. Even animals defend their young against predators. All the sponsors and perpetuators must be fished out. AEveryone should be speaking up.if not the Nation ,all those that stayed silent despite the power to address this and all its leaders are a shame to humanity |
The perpetrators and sponsors of this menace must be identified and held accountable. No citizen ,No leader should be silent to the killing of 1 person not to talk of whole communities. This is wrong very wrong and must be addressed.Even kids are not left out, If these evil doers have sponsors why has the country not fished them out And brought them to justice |
If he really said this he needs to be called to order. This is very careless speech for a so called leader. How? Ordinary NYSC cannot account for the safety of these kids you want to send them to face hardened terrorists whatbsane country does that? Perhaps we should make it a criteria to run for Senate,Governorship or electoral office,he should tell us how that sounds to him, Meanwhile did they throw recruitment open and people refused to join the army? How many applications did they get this year? What happened to all the ex boys already trained in warfare and who collected salaries for years without any srrvice, they are supposed stand by and last resort for the military? But then they are all sons and daughtters of the polticians ,now you need poor corpers to clean up the mess This man must apologize for this statement and such ideas so no one repeats it again,if not,any youth that campaigns for him is an embarrassment to Nigeria and themselves |
Humans have turned themselves to gatekeepers of the kingdom, vain attempts to personally supervise and select who enters heaven or not according to their own rules and doctrines as if it is their blood that was shed. For Christians ,The person who died said he died for all,you are there selecting for him and in the process actually turning people away, why not let God and his Son decide? Abi is it your blood that was shed. All God asked from you is to love Him and love others. For the one who wants to wear make up and whatever, wear, for the one who doesn't want to don't wear, same goes for clothes, leave everyman to his /her God, you just walk in love as best as you can. However your decision to be a people please is a personal life decision,an appalling weakness best addressed and can only be addressed by oneself. The priority again is Love and fear God,love yourself, love others. |
Coldshisha:Nice one.these are the kind of posts I pray to see here, you all will be surprised at how far suggestions and discussions from these pages go when it comes to decision making in and on Nigeria Dangote actually trained a 1000 graduate trailer drivers some have PHD self |
Such vitriol aimed at just one man (who is not a northerner) trying to do good for his country. Emefiele is right on this one,and may God protect him Did anyone notice the prices from the 3 locations are different? As opposed to a flat parrallel rate in all locations in the country, as was the former practice? the same flat everywhere and it changes morning afternoon and night, but the same in all locations. That's the first win for emefiele on this one,I pray God gives him the strength and support he needs to hold on with this direction |
PlanktonX:Your GST is better than all the PHD s in the CBN and the internationals they consult? Everyone, whether PDP,APC,APGN and others should support emefiele on this one,it's not an easy task for him,its possibly him against a strong cartel, every one should drop their differences and be on board this one.The future of the Nation will need this |
danowena:Sorry ehn, just see it as your patriotic duty. Have you heard the phrase concerning a certain place "may those that love her prosper" so long as you sow good, wish good ,do good and speak good for the land you live on,leave the earth to do the rest" |
adonainana:Are you in Nigeria? If so you will know Abokifx is the unofficial reference point for the parrallel market by abokis and bureau the change as well as the public. How come all abokis have the same rate everywhere in the country morning, afternoon and night, all of them reporting the same variation nationwide? Ask them they why they will tell you abokifx.... It has far reaching implications too because they also carry retrospective data.so they becone the unofficial source for transactions that should not even be ,audits for 5 years ago are done with abokifx, why must ending the parallel market and their first representative spokesperson be an arguement if we really want progress? What we all should be discussing Is how to make dollar more available to the layman and if you know Nigeria well it's a little better at the banks now, banks are begging people to apply for dollars with their visas same way they started begging people to apply for loans, these were the same bankers selling visa dollar to just themselves, but theres still more that needs to be done, faster processing time for form M,direct access to the yuan ,official pay routes for china made easy, these are the conversations we should be having. If there are 10 steps to strengthening the naira, shutting down the parallel market and making dollars available easily to all will be at least the first 5, hoarders will let go when they know no abokifx to change the value of their money in 3 weeks ,thats Nigerias own context based solution, you don't need to be an economist to see that |
philip0906:There are entire analytic reports on policies that have been enacted in the last 30 years in this country .If you are not lazy and you really care to know you will search for them and read up. It's not my job in any way to ensure you are educated on the matters you choose to comment on. If you must speak on public issues, get enlightened, and make it a lifetime commitment. |
philip0906:The real effect of a policy is not always short term,it's long term.eg the real effecnt of BVN was not in the first 3 months. Plus you expect the parallel market not to fight back with its rate fixing? What is the explanation of over 30% increase above the Official rate? Like someone mentioned above when there is no war or natural disaster then something is wrong somewhere.before you all shout demand and supply, when economists talk demand and supply in relation to forex the don't mean your middle men abokis, you all made the abokis and their spokesman the defacto CBN in Nigeria, thats very abnormal In Nigeria its simply a middle man problem in buying and selling matters. The solution, remove the middleman and their enablers.Thats whats done everywhere in the world, thats common sense. |
Premium times, and you too? What demand and supply is controlling the naira please? Is it the sum of our imports versus exports? Or an aboki association doing price fixing for its members on What the dollar price should be through a common platform? If premium times can tell us of 1 developed country that allows a website publish the rates indivuals agree to part with their currency separate from its validated National rate then we will agree that it may be an acceptable practice. However if you can't name 1,then ask yourself are they stupid to not let that happen? Or can we do better? Is this not trying to do better, the final question what side are you on PT |
Minjim:You guys know nothing about naija parallel market, it's a cartel.a well controlled one. Some persons are rumoured to sometimes buy all the dollar available on the streets at a certain period to deliberately create scarcity. At such times to get ordinary 2000 dollars you have to book ahead with aboki who starts looking for dollar for you in bits and pieces. Imagine companies who need to complete transactions worth millions at a time like that, any action to cut off the parallel market is long overdue.cut of the head first, then the creative means to survive without it will evolve over time |
FreeIgboho:We have lots of acts to address that, sebi the owner of the site is Nigerian? |
Reforms that bring development don't happen overnight. When the finance sector stated it needed to consolidate banks with higher reserves everyone screamed blue murder,it was done and today we are no longer afraid of banks closing shop with depositors funds, (yes that used to happen in Nigeria) Then the finance sector came out with plans to identify and record every client and transaction in a traceable database..BVN every Nigerian home and abroad must be registered to use an account.everyone screamed impossible again.today its been done The finance sector has come again with plans to clamp down on a parallel market thats dangerous to the finance ,economy and security of he country,it's a process ,it's possible but the stone throwers association have come with their its impossible speech,we hear you.But the real question is what do you really stand for? The unpatroitic destroyers or the builders... That said those that stand for the growth of the country and her future must all support these steps to make the future better. It starts with our voices . To the CBN I'll say in addition make the yuan easily available in every Nigerian banks.Theres no option for dorm account with the yuan, create it.let yuan transactions be made easy with a yuan card and watch the demand for the dollar reduce significantly There will still be speculators and hoarders, the treasonous few whose sole strategy is to make profit by creating artificial scarcity. Those few must be sought and made examples of under the treasonous felony act or any another act with stiff penalties Every action to strengthen the naira must be promoted, supported and celebrated.better late than never |
grandstar:Where in the world do you see a parallel market dictating a country's exchange rate? Some countries might see it and treat it as espionage or acts against the State. Why is it okay in Nigeria when the CBN says it isn't? It's foreign currency thats been sold like second hand clothes on the street and the aboki man determining the value of a country's currency based on What? |
