This CBN still hasn't learnt how to talk, of what benefit is this information to the general populace? How about doing its job without announcing to the world that some banks are more healthy than others? I hope this news wouldn't create unnecessary panic in the system. |
patrickmuf: bro why are you acting as if the case was left to lie low? from what you wrote, can't you see the effc are handling the matter or what else do you want? Can you see the hypocrisy everyone is crying about, so it is ok for Punch to allow the EFCC do their job when it concerns Oyo but wrong to allow same EFCC do their job when it concerns Oduah? No sensible man will support corruption but only a fool will keep quiet when he sees double standard in reporting by Punch and its likes. |
InvertedHammer:Why not ask google to tell you the difference between Economic growth and Economic development instead of insulting someone who is very much on point. Nigeria is not overtaking SA in economic development but in economic growth, the two terms are not the same. Brazil is the 6th largest economy in the world but it is not a developed country. |
Gbawe: Thank you. Many here are indeed 'political amateurs' and I blame that on the relative lack of political sophistication of many Nigerians. In so far as democracy remains a game of number then bright, balanced and pragmatic folks do not have to be told the meaning of the PDP losing 7 or more Governors, and lord know how many legislators, to it's number one rival. Does the APC not already have 11 Governors? If this seven or more join the APC then how many does that become and what is the significance of that development for those who are aware that Nigeria has 36 States? Some should ponder that reality before we even begin talking of legislators. Can you tell us how this intended move will be of benefit to the masses and the fight against corruption? |
I don't care if I will start getting banned after this comment but the level of political hypocricy by moderators of Nairaland these days is mind blowing. How can we explain how flimsy threads hit front page such as Oduah's pictures in Isreal but threads like this are hidden from the public. If I may ask, has nairaland been bought over? Whose interest is this forum representing, the ruling party, the opposition or the masses? Let those hidding threads like this be reminded that selective justice will kill the reputation of this much loved forum. If you want to expose corruption be bold at it or you overlook all of them altogether. It is better that ten guilty persons escape than one innocent suffer... William Blackstone (1723 - 1780) |
Rather than pulling these women down a reasonable group of people should form a coalition to ensure that women are rightly educated across the country. This misguided curiosity should make the OP direct his anger against Yerima and co that have made it possible for only a section of the country to produce the kind of women that he termed "more powerful than the president". Direct your writeup against the people and socio-economics factors that threaten the economic emancipation of women across the country. Run from hate before it ruins you. |
This woman must be an Iron lady to survive all these attacks from all direction. If I may ask, is it the same Oduah that is currently in Isreal that signed? According to all these peppersoup joint gossip, Kwankwaso complained yesterday and Oduah signed today, I wonder where the people that believe this kept their brain. |
I was taught not to throw away the baby with the birth water. No matter how grave the allegation against Stella is I will always choose her above all the past Ministers of Aviation I have known in this country. It's unfortunate her enemies have seen a rope they want to use to hang their dog but she has written her name in gold and they can't deny it. She dared to challenge the cabals in the aviation sector and am not surprised that they are fighting back. When Okonjo Iweala took on the mischief makers in the oil sector, they tried all they could to get her sacked. They even cooked up several fraud allegation but she survived, let's see how this pans out. |
With the way the nation was agog over purchase of 2 cars by the Aviation Minister you will think her accusers are so saintly. Checkout the difference between the cost of Lagos Ibadan expressway and Lekki Expressway you will wonder where those accusers who are so eager to cast their stone at stella are hidding. Those that come to equity must come with clean hands else, we will all be playing hide and seek game in the name of exposing corruption. The north protected Almustapha, the west is shielding Tinubu and co but they want Stella sacked based on trumped up charges. |
I expect APC to come and tell us that this is diversionary tactice by the FG just like they said about national conference. FG rejected this proposal before but has rescinded its decision, how is it different from the proposed national conference? This is how govts and political parties should play politics. Focus on development when it is necessary and don't play politics with the yeanings of the masses. |
When is it coming to 9ja? |
Nigeria is never in short supply of Accidental Activists. Watchout for Farouk Lawan and Dimeji Bankole, they will turn activists before 2015 and as long as they are against the ruling party they shall find supporters on nairaland. If Dino wants to protest against wastage and looting of the treasury he should go and occupy the National Assembly. But he wouldn't because he was numbered among the 109 Senators and 360 House of Rep cabals who are holding our treasury to ransome. |
anonimi: If supposed graduates are forced to pay a "voluntary" dubious deduction without protest, that says a lot about our VALUES.Bros, the name "NYSC Foundation" confuses every Corper, it makes it look very official. |
I don't know where or how it started but to claim that it's voluntary is a fat lie. We were all forced to pay, infact I paid mine before they gave me my certificate. |
What I find funny is that the report did not accuse her of fraud but that the purchase was made when the Agency had little fund in its account. But some people are twisting the report to suit their wishful thinking. These people don't care to remember that the vehicles were budgetted for as we were told. See the list of our past minister of Aviation since 1999 and judge them on performance. 1 Olusegun Agagu 2 Kema Chikwe 3 Babalola Borishade 4 Femi Fani Kayode 5.Felix Hyatt 6.Babatunde Omotosho 7 Fidelia Njeze 8 Stella Odua A section of the media chased Bath Nnaji (who was performing wonders) out of govt like this because of sentiment and we all regreted after he resigned, they are at it again with Stella Odua. |
Why can't one of the pastors of these churches say/do exactly what John the Baptist said/did "Christ must increase while I decrease". How come none of them has enough love to look for another location considering that they all could constitute environmental nuisance on sunday morning? Am sorry to say but this is a clear case of business competitors, everyone trying to outsmart the other. |
Somethings is wrong somewhere, isn't this news good enough for frontpage? |
ogmask: You surely need deliverance. Ask jim for help.If Sahara Reporters had said exactly what you are saying nobody would have taken them serious but they came up with an evidence and won their case. If you think her remodeling contracts were inflated you are expected to prove it with an evidence else you forever hold your peace. It is myopic to think that just coming online to cry fraud will make every govt official to resign otherwise Obama would have resigned long ago. My point is, while pressing for improvement in the Aviation sector, don't pretend not to notice the current stride in the sector. If it was that easy to come by in a country like ours past ministers would have done it. |
Nigerians and Nairalanders specifically can be unnecessarily sentimental. This woman needs to step up her oversight function in safety related issues of our airspace. But the level of political witch hunting some people exude against this minister is legendary. There is nothing we can point out as an achievement of the past 4 ministers of Aviation in this country. They controlled thesame budget, they all had the same agencies and Parastatals but they were only interested in payment of salaries and nothing else. Here comes a woman doing excellently well and giving us something to cheer and remember her for yet some people are more interested in pulling her down. Can anyone remember the achievements of these past ministers of Aviation 1 Femi fani Kayode 2.Felix Hyatt 3. Babatunde Omotosho 4 Fidelia Njeze |
Egypt is parading men who should be collecting their pension. See how old their captain is, Ghana must take full advantage now. |
Am not trying to turn this to ethnic contest but one thing am very sure of is that the attraction Lagos has for virtually all citizens of this country has a negative effect on the economy of every other state in the country. The best from these states especially South Western states, South-East, and South-South migrate to Lagos and their individual states are almost left to grow at a very slow pace. This could explain why every Yoruba man claims Lagos while Igbos residing in Lagos still lay claim to part-ownership of Lagos. The only saviour of the South East (I haven't been to much of South south) is that their wealth in the city is in direct proportion to the development of their rural areas (it's rare to see an Igbo who owns a good house in Lagos without having another good house in the village), this can not be said of Ekiti. In doing this, the 'villages' of South-East easily compare with some towns in the country, maybe this is because they travel regularly to the East. If the professors from Ekiti who most likely have left their state could endeavor to put up structures in their rural area where they come from and lay less emphases on the development of Lagos, the story of Ekiti could change sooner than we think. |

Africa has 55 billionaires, far more than previously thought, Nigeria-based Ventures financial magazine says. They include three women - the mother of Kenya's president, a daughter of Angola's president and a Nigerian oil tycoon and fashion designer. The richest man is Nigeria's Aliko Dangote, with a fortune of $20.2bn (£12.5bn), Ventures said. The list is likely to reignite debate about inequality between rich and poor people in Africa, correspondents say. In April, the World Bank said the number of people living in extreme poverty in Africa had risen in the past three decades from 205 million to 414 million. 'Conservative estimate' A report earlier this month by research group Afrobarometer suggested that economic growth in Africa was primarily benefiting a small elite. Continue reading the main story “Start Quote If you have a lot of money, there are a lot of people that you have to support so we think people may be a little reluctant to be all splashy about what they have and what their assets are” Uzo Iweala Ventures editor-in-chief This is the first time the respected Ventures magazine has published a list of rich Africans, reports the BBC's Tomi Oladipo reports from Nigeria's main city Lagos. The 55 billionaires it has identified are more numerous than the 16 super rich Africans listed by US financial magazine Forbes last year. It was able to identify dozens more billionaires by using "on-the-ground knowledge" to overcome hurdles that may have "hampered" other researchers, Ventures said. The magazine estimated the 55 billionaires' combined fortunes at $143.88bn, an average of a $2.6bn per person. Of the 55, 20 are Nigerian, nine are South African and eight are Egyptian, Ventures said. The richest woman is Nigeria's Folorunsho Alakija, who made her $7.3bn fortune mainly in the country's oil industry, it added. She also studied fashion in London and made dresses for Maryam Babangida, the late wife of Nigerian military ruler Ibrahim Babangida, Ventures said. Isabel Dos Santos, an Angolan investor and the eldest daughter of Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, together with Ngina Kenyatta, the mother of Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta, also made the cut, it added. Ventures listed Harvard-trained businessman Allan Gray as South Africa's richest man, with a fortune of $8.5bn. "This media-shy South African moneyman controls two investment companies that collectively manage over $50bn in assets," Ventures said. Nathan Kirsh, a property tycoon in the tiny kingdom of Swaziland, also made it on the list. He is worth $3.6bn, and has business interests in London and New York, Ventures said. Ventures editor-in-chief Uzo Iweala told the BBC's Focus on Africa radio programme that its estimate of 50 billionaires was probably conservative. "There is this culture of you don't necessarily want to show your wealth, considering the gap between rich and poor," he said. "If you have a lot of money, there are a lot of people that you have to support so we think people may be a little reluctant to be all splashy about what they have and what their assets are." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-24433996 http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/report-africa-has-55-billionaires-worth-14388-billion-worlds-richest-black-woman-nigerian/2013/10/08/ca5c3b30-3035-11e3-9ddd-bdd3022f66ee_story.html |
ULQUIORRA: hebrews 9:12 says CHRIST JESUS has given us eternal redemption by his blood once and for all. the word ETERNAL means forever saved. even if a christian backslides, that doesnt change the fact that he is a child of GOD. John 10:28:29 says that *nobody can pluck us out of the fathers hand* . So our salvation is perfect and complete. Even if we sin, the Bible says Christ Jesus forever lives to make intercession for us. The Bible also says that the Holy Spirit is a seal of our salvation (ephesians 1:12-13) a seal that is eternal and cannot be broken again. Even 1 Peter 1:5 says that we are kept by the power of GOD and that means more than protection or provision, it also means that we are kept as children, as sons of GOD and we remain saved even when we sin. Though this should not be seen as an excuse to sin because we should remember that we are the seeds of GOD and we dont sin (1john 3:9) and that we have crucified the lusts and affections of the flesh since we have put off the old self and its sinful ways (ephesians4:22-24, colossians 3:9, galatians 5:24). PRAISE BE TO GOD.So in otherwords, a christian can become a native doctor and still retain his salvation right? That is not right according to the following scriptures. Matthew 3:8-10 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: John 15 2-6 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. |
2 Peter 2:20-22 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. If Judas lost his salvation, so will any Christian who departs from the truth. |
Imagine if all the Presidents before GEJ added about 500MW to the national grid in their individual tenures, imagine where Nigeria would have been by now? It's funny we don't even have any past president we can compare GEJ with in term of development of the power sector, maybe that is why some people are comparing him to Iraq. . So how many Mega watts is Nigeria producing now? |
While the South celebrate its young students, the North is murdering their young students in their sleep; what an Irony of a nation. Nice pics, nice memory. |
Sloan: See question! For starters, I don't hate Buhari, in fact I like him in some ways and open minded in to some of his other shortcomings - everyone has them! I will give you a straight forward answer on why some Nigerians and parts of Nigeria hate Buhari:First, the question says "Why do YOU hate Buhari", therefore I don't understand why you should answer for other people. It is also dangerous when you say that an entire ethnic group hate an individual, it doesn't make sense. Rochas and other notable Igbo leaders were with him in ANPP, some moved with him to CPC and many are still with him in APC, that should prove your theory wrong. To also say that he's hated because he faught against Igbos in the civil war is not true because Obasanjo was a Civil war General yet Igbos voted for him massively. To claim that Buhari is hated because he is Hausa Fulani is another false claim because the late Yaradua came from same state as Buhari yet Yaradua won all the states in the South east during the 2007 election. He should find what is wrong with himself and stop blaming Nigerians for his woes. For want of time I will allow your other baseless theories go unreplied. I as a person don't hate Buhari but I will not vote him and my reasons are: 1. He was among the actors that ruined Nigeria's fate since 1960, he should go and rest. 2. He ruled over my grandfather in the 1960s, ruled my father in the 1980s and I can't allow him rule over me in 2015. 3. Am yet to find or hear any developmental project he instituted during his reign as the Military ruler of Nigeria, theories of being disciplined can not give a jobless graduate job nor rescue people from poverty. self discipline is not enough to be Nigeria's president. 4. He sounds intellectually empty to me, I have not heard him make any reasonable intellectual contribution towards the salvaging of the fate Nigeria they helped destroy. 5. I don't believe in recycling leaders, we tried it with Obasanjo and failed, i don't believe we will succeed with Buhari. 6. he is more of an ethnic leaders than an elder stateman for the country, a presidential aspirant who wanted the vote of the South-easterners in 2011 but could not afford to campaign in the east is not worthy of being our country's president. a man who said Moslems should vote only moslems is only qualified to be an Imam. 7. I can not trust a man who said on National TV that he will NEVER contest again after 2011 election yet is scheming for another presidential contest in 2015. |
debostar: The nigeria stock exchange will be migrating officially to a new trading platform. What is the implication of the new platform for investors? |
kabba7: Well I have the Akure 20110 campaign video where he said he is only asking to complete the Yar Adua mandate he co~owned should the video be made public? Is that the agreement in question? Oya let's see what you've got |
