careytommy: Azikiwe's protege. No wonder the Brits were able to hoodwink him!Zik was his protege, not the other way around, though. And I don't know if there's any evidence that Macaulay ever said that although I get the point. |
Significant US support only followed the end of the war with Ethiopia. And here is a proper account of what went down between Somalia and the USSR: http://books.google.com/books?id=a-iQ6JN_PsAC&pg=PA17&dq=Soviets+dropped+Somalia&hl=en&sa=X&ei=dmS5T4m2AYGC2wXS46SpCQ&ved=0CDQQ6AEwAA Note how the Russians completely fvcking played Barre, even though every single thing they did for Ethiopia, they could have easily done for Somalia. The Russians are well known opportunists and your guy Barre let them make a fool of him instead of using them to his advantage. Note that Somalia lost significant military support and got mostly 'soft' support when it had to opt for the US. |
Ayanle of "call now and donate 11 cents" fame, you are living in a world of utter delusion. The Russians dropped you faster than a sack of flaming sh1t in the late 70s and the sponsorship of America that followed was never utilized properly and instead became worthless when you descended into anarchy. I wonder how anyone can claim that they're the pimps when the Russians delivered a financial and military bitchslap that you never recovered from and the USA gave you guys a battle of Mogadishu bitchslap and a sniper-bullet-through-the-head-of-a-pirate bitchslap that disgraced you internationally. Do pimps get bitchslapped by those that they're using, or is it the other way around? And post one source that shows that actual Somali soldiers (not Ottoman Turkish soldiers actually physically present in Somalia to defend their investment) fired cannon before the late 1200s when it was used in North Africa or before 1514 when cannon were commandeered by soldiers from a West African kingdom from those that refused (on account of religion) to sell to them. |
PhysicsQED: Somalia is East Africa's urinal.^^^ "Somalia: East Africa's latrine" That should be their national motto. |
I see that the Somali wikipediaists have started claiming that the cannon was first used on the African continent by al Ghazi of the Adal Sultanate in 1529. This is idiotic. Cannon had been used in North Africa before then - for example in Melilla almost 300 years earlier. (The Moors introduced cannon to Europeans in Iberia after it was introduced to the Islamic world from east Asia, by the way.) And the king of Benin seized cannon from a Portuguese ship in 1514 (the Portuguese were very averse to selling firearms to non-Christians): http://books.google.com/books?id=AVZDHeVEeywC&pg=PA114 |
I don't understand how this is even a thread, or on the front page. Buhari is talking about dogs, baboons, lions, tigers and bears like a parable giver, but GEJ is addressing reality and talking like a human being in plain English yet sophists are straining to make his words have whatever meaning they want them to. Ridiculous. |
The point of this thread is that it's foolish and embarrassing to name a university after a known rogue, even if he's one of your people. I don't understand why they can't grasp that. @Ejine, how did he 'ghost-build' it? Did he provide the funds, and if so, with what money from what occupation? Roguery? |
The Ajuraan state never singlehandedly defeated the Portuguese in battle and it is false to even so much as imply that. Their Turkish pimps contributed hugely to their defense. By contrast, the kingdom of Kongo (a 'Bantu' people) defeated the Portuguese at Mbanda Kasi, without the help of Turkish pimps. They defeated the Portuguese in 1622 after initially losing to them at Mbumbi as historians have shown. Standing up to the Portuguese without Turkish help may be unheard of in your country, but the thing is, there are actually some people with balls in that part of Africa. Don't think I can say the same for Somalia where the men have no bass in their voices. |
Did this brain dead goat actually claim that Somalis introduced myrrh to the world? The same myrrh that is native to the middle east in a distinct tree from that found in the part of east Africa where Somalia is? Did you people also force the myrrh tree to mutate into a distinct species? Myrrh in the Arabian peninsula was obtained from the local tree, not from the kind found in somalia so you people played no part in introducing it to them. And I have to laugh at the thought of claiming that as an achievement. |
Somalia had a large military in the 70s and the 80s because the Russians and later the US were gassing them up and for no other reason. But this is nothing new. The Turks were their pimps in the past. And lol @ the claim of Somalia having an educated diaspora. Educated in what? Arabic? Bombing? |
PAGAN 9JA:Ok. This is funny. |
Wait, IBB has a university named after him? Why? |
Dig deep and find the oil already. Before 2015. |
@ 27 He was wrong on the timing, but a car with foldable wings that can fly did make its debut recently. |
@ 26 Caffeine intoxication is probably what is being referred to there. |
A bird may not be an 'instrument' but I don't see how that claim by da Vinci has been proven wrong. |
What's sad is that in the US you can still occasionally see commercials defending high fructose corn syrup and shilling for big business. These ads claim that they're clearing up "misconceptions" but I was never really convinced. |
Interesting theory. |
jason123: Just to say, if we don't have Southern Nigeria, then Nigeria will break into over 20 countries!!!So what? It doesn't matter either way. If it's going to break, let it break and worry about the outcome when it happens. Pan-Africanism failed even before the 60s and Nigeria is the proof of this. |

"Somalia: a donation of just 11 cents can keep little Ayanle from going hungry. Call now." - oyibos Smh |
Somalia is East Africa's urinal. |
Image123: he sounds deranged already. This are the kind of people you suddenly find in the front begging pastor to forgive them and confess to witchcraft and family generational curses.I don't have anything against the OP but this is funny. ![]() |
The first few responses to this thread are hilarious. |
ayanle456: well looks like for a people who had "empires"...your empires were strong enough to stop your people from being sold as slaves...loool...i guess our puny empires did a better job of protecting somali citizens...loooolNone of the peoples of the empires I mentioned were sold as slaves in any significant amount, if at all, dumbass. And crawl back to your Somalinet refugee support group and you won't have to worry about friend requests. |
ayanle456: Your are very disturbed. Your area of the world is considered the armpit of afriac. Your region is far removed from the hostory of the world where empires rose. The only perpose for your people was to benefit europeans with free labour.Lmao! Is this supposed to be a joke? I already told you that those Somali kingdoms and sultanates are obscure and virtually never mentioned whenever people are discussing great African imperial states of the past. Kush/Nubia and later Makuria, medieval Ghana, Gao, Songhai, Mali, Ashanti, Aksum, Kanem Bornu, Benin, Oyo, are empires that are much more known than your Somali Wikipedia "empires" and that is a harsh reality that cannot be sidestepped. Most of these states are in West Africa and descendants of the Songhai, Oyo, Bornu, and Benin empires can be found in Nigeria to this day. |
Well compared to his later stuff, that early style sounds terrible in my opinion. If you actually like it there's a list of his old stuff here: http://www.thewordisbond.com/28444/freeness-vintage-jay-z-1989-1994 If you compare that old stuff to 'Broken English' (1994) 'Understand Me' (1994) or 'Dead Presidents' (1995) I think there's a huge improvement in style in Dead Presidents. Also I think there were many people rapping better and with a non-corny style in both the 80s and 90s, but I don't want to make this a rap thread so I won't go into that in detail. |
Fulaman198: That's disgusting why do Congolese do that if it is true? A lot of images online can be edited, but that is just downright disgusting.Yeah. Pretty gross. Worse than eating horse or dog by far. But the thing is there are quite a large number of primates in that area and humans would at some point end up killing them. Inevitably, someone would try to cook and eat it. Still revolting though. |
ekt_bear: Lol. Post a link to some of this early Jay-Z.http://www.12ozprophet.com/grotesk/entry/jay-z_as_a_fu-schnickens There are other songs besides these two where he sounds like that. Jay Z only got good around 1995. A year after having his mind blown. By 1996 he put out a classic album. Now that's adaptability - going from rapping terribly to the top ranks in only 2 years. |
