Health › Re: Why Nigerian Dentists Always Suggest Extraction by professore(m): 2:33pm On Jan 11, 2021 |
Damian457: Good morning, This is a counter thread to this topic:
https://www.nairaland.com/6354106/why-nigerian-dentists-always-suggest
There are basically 3 reasons why Nigerian Dentists will rather do extraction than a root canal treatment and they include;
1. Cost: The average cost of an anterior teeth root canal is 22k + 35k for crowning and 28k + 35k for posterior teeth in a GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL, Private clinics should be x2 or x3 of the quoted price. For those that don’t know the meaning of crowning it’s a procedure to reenforce the tooth structure after a root canal procedure. So the question is how many persons can afford to part with over 57k to treat only one tooth when the minimum wage is 33k?? No Government Health Insurance for citizens, The so called NHIS is in shambles, the last time I checked some HMOs in NHIS don’t cover RCT. Payment for Dental care is out of pocket. Sometimes when you tell patients about the whole root canal procedure they are excited till it gets to money part, some will even be like 57k for just one tooth? Please just remove it.
2. Deteriorated Condition: The first source of help for Nigerian Dental Patients anytime they feel pain is the “Chemist” , some even go to extent of getting dental formulas, powders and concoctions (Mama Agness Dental Formula) to alleviate their pain. Pain is a symptom not a pathology, when you apply those formulas and concoction, the pain may subside but the disease process will continue. Sometimes patient delay in seeking treatment and when they eventually come the tooth is already grossly compromised and are even Retained Roots.
3. Availability of Equipments: We all know healthcare is not a priority in Nigeria. Our hospitals are in shambles and in bad conditions. I will say this without any apology, the only way to get quality medical treatment in Nigeria is via private hospitals if you can afford their fees. Government hospitals are Jokes. How many governments hospitals have OPG machines? Digital Xray machines or Even functioning dental chairs? How many Nigerians can afford to pay 90-114k per tooth in a Private Clinic to get quality dental care?
The question should be directed to the Government who have kept the citizens in perpetual poverty, with no health care insurance and has made it impossible for them to afford basic life needs.
Let me know If you think otherwise. Number one which is cost is to me invalid. You goahead to first tell the patient that their tooth can be repaired and let them decide if they can afford it or not rather than just telling them the tooth shoud be removed. |

HigherEd: Lol what is this
English proficiency isn't education. It is just one out of many very useful languages. If you aren't a journalist, editor or an english academic, it is perfectly understandable that your knowledge of the language is common and not exceptionally professional. Just be able to write and communicate effectively without gaffing.
If I am not wrong, folks studying language still study adjectives, adverbs into their postgraduate levels.
As for geography. Perhaps I was taught about tropics of cancer, capricorn in secondary school, and my brain has simply relegated that information or it wasn't relatable enough to remember. But I find it funny the suggestion that inability to remember some topic in geography makes my entire education 'dangerous'.
If I rolled out an on the spot test in SSCE Biology, many of today's lecturers (including the OP) who aren't within the sciences would fail it woefully. And accessors would still agree I never crossed into higher education biology with the test.
E je ki awa guided o. You are truly educated. You spoke my mind. I am disappointed in the person who said all what is in this post, it is as if to say he wants us all to either study English or Geography. |

CalliDora1: Capital NO!
Only wordly men and sinners practice premarital sex. Take it or leave it!
Spirituality asides. Sex does not keep a man or determine a successful relationship or marriage.
Morally speaking, it is not good. Keep your chastity. It pays. you have said it all sister. I'm a man and I find it extremely attractive to meet a lady that will tell me she is keeping herself for marriage. However, if that is your stance, you must be practicing abstinence, because you will be treated like a criminal if it is found out that you are secretly sleeping with other guys, period. |

Thank your God he no even disappear with your company...na just bike My advice to u right now as an experienced Verification Officer, pls all other staff should be going through reverification every 6 months together with their guarantors too, with this, it will enable u to know when they hv relocated to another area and also to know if their guarantors is still standing for them. Then one other poster said, go to the address he provided and verify from his neighbors if he stays there and not squatting and ensure he has an office guarantor. All these made great sense. |

So, it doesn't cross my mind to ask cos I do feel for him. evethough their salary was constant that period and mine was halted cos it's a private sector, It never crossed my mind to ask. Even when he promised to send me airtime, I didn't remind him and quickly subscribed just to keep up with our chats. So... I don't get it.
