HealthRe: Mayowa Ahmed: LUTH Releases Press Statement On #savemayowa by Rainmaker69(m): 4:07am On Jul 30, 2016
Bjergtrolde:
Lets get a few things straight, LUTH did not break any confidentiality as far as this case is concerned. Medical information is no longer confidential once it is in public domain as in this case. You should note that they did not reveal the information for which they know her for as that was not already in the public domain particularly if made public by the patient or her agents. This can be described as "implied consent" . This is more so as LUTH was linked in the story.

There may have been a scam but then again they were just being emotional. They may have embellished the story so as to get funds to take her abroad , then again they may have done so simply to get as much money as possible from her illness in the short time she has in this world.

If she does have an abdominal malignancy as the chaps in LUTH highly suspected, no hospital in this world would give her the treatment to survive at this stage in her disease. At most it would buy her a few months.

It may be that I feel this way because it is not me but I hope and pray that when death comes to me, I would be brave enough to tell my doctors and my family to let me go home , sort out my affairs and die peacefully . Doctors are not and should not play God.
Generally well said. I guess we will agree to disagree on the issue of Luth's culpability. The hospital has no justification for releasing her medical information while she is still alive. The burden of confidentiality has nothing to do with public domain where the family has not given their permission. In fact, the burden even extends to court proceedings. I wish her all the best.

Where is the disclosure of medical details?
This 31year-old lady came into the Private Wing of LUTH on Monday, 25th July, 2016 with a history and clinical features of an intra-abdominal mass. The family and the patient brought along some results of laboratory investigations ordered and done from outside LUTH. Three different Specialists were invited to review Mayowa.
Did we read the same article?
HealthRe: Mayowa Ahmed: LUTH Releases Press Statement On #savemayowa by Rainmaker69(m): 9:21pm On Jul 29, 2016
Chartey:
LUTH is not a doctor, LUTH is a hospital that didn't swear an oath. Recognise that difference.
Now, that information is not up to 10% of what is at the hospital's disposal. They have a right to protect themselves from unwarranted bad publicity.
With due respect "LUTH is not a doctor" is a very irresponsible statement. Luth is a hospital and as such is bound by the same professional obligations as it's doctors. In saner climes the hospital would be preparing for a medical malpractice suit.

For your information, the disclosure of the girl's diagnosis should be left to her to reveal. The fact that they revealed less than what they have doesn't give them the right to release anything. Whatever gives them the impression that they can decide to weigh in on their interests over a patient's interests is from the pit of hell.
HealthRe: Mayowa Ahmed: LUTH Releases Press Statement On #savemayowa by Rainmaker69(m): 4:55pm On Jul 29, 2016
What the hell? What gives LUTH the right to disclose private medical details and history of a patienthuh? Are these people mad? Can't blame the opportunists who tried to turn the poor girl's matter into a cash cow but I expect more from Luth.

Nigerian journalism is dead. So much fake, speculative and disjointed stories supported by "all efforts to reach Xyz proved abortive as our phone calls and text messages were neither answered nor replied."

This story just feeds off ethnic and party differences. Zero content.

PoliticsRe: Farmers To Pay Fee For Protection – Ogbeh by Rainmaker69(m): 3:35am On Jul 22, 2016
mrkayusfit:
In my opinion i think the farmers are self centered. Remember these herdsmen are Nigerians and they have the right to live and do their businesses any where in Nigeria. What's the big deal in allocating some portion of their farms for cattle grazing? If they were also rearing cattles, won't they graze them? The herdsmen are majorly the source of beef in the country and since everyone patronizes their meat, why can't we support the grazing bill so they can stop moving their cattles in the cities and instead have grazing fields? If every state creates grazing reserves don't you think it will limit clashes between farmers and herdsmen? I know there are bad eggs amongst the herdsmen but we can't throw away the baby and bath water. There has to be a compromise for the sake of peace.

The farmers should be ready to pay for their protection since they are doing their private business. They are not expected to buy guns to protect themselves. The government will provide security if they are ready to pay. The fulanis are not violent people, let's stop the stigmatization of herdsmen sad
Very well written and articulated. My main concern though with the self-funded protection is who the security contractors will be. What good is a government that can't guarantee the safety of its citizens.
PoliticsRe: Something Strange Is Happening In The Southwest - Azuka Onwuka by Rainmaker69(m): 1:26pm On Jul 19, 2016
In this country, ethnic slants and prejudices have become so common from a certain sector. For selfish or other reasons they have promoted a divisive regional agenda over the common Nigerian vision.
Op probably didn't hear anything because he was looking for the wrong things- ethnic and religious interpretations of events.
FYI, many Yorubas spoke out. They just didn't posture as a persecuted people.

Please don't use your phone near a generator, my dad lost his sale boy in the act. He went to power our generator with his Nokia torch light, as he was about switching it on, his phone rang and that was how he was burnt beyond recognition. I don't know about the cooking gas but we got to be careful on where we use our phone.

My 2cent
Pure bollocks. Where is the connection between a ringing phone and petrol burning? Or is the nokia torchlight in your house powered by candle?

Have these attention-seeking idiots given 1 single valid reason for the strike? They should go on strike if they like. Rather than focus on cutting corruption and waste among their members, these fools think they can inflict hardship on the common man. E nor go better for dem.
Some people need to lose their jobs for this country to move forward. These guys are worse than politicians.

Vanguard should try to be more relevant. What kind of story is this? You don't need the age of Methuselah or the wisdom of Solomon to know that the current economic climate will affect businesses, including phone sellers in computer village and elsewhere.

PropertiesRe: Help Needed. I Was Given A Quit Notice To Vacate Within Seven Days by Rainmaker69(m): 8:18am On Jun 26, 2016
elbukaze:
Good Evening fellow Nairalanders, my
Landlord gave me 7 days quit notice to vacate his
building a day after my house rent expired, I
was hoping to renew the rent on Monday,

Please I want to reply him telling him that I
pay rent annually and therefore can't be given
a week to vacate his building, please can any
lawyer in the house help me to compose such
a letter.

Thank you.
1. The letter is not dated.
2. The letter is issued by the law firm (through the court), but signed by the alleged owner.
3. The term of a tenancy in Nasarawa is approximated to the end of the month. If you pay rent 1st January or 30th January, then you have till 31st January to pay.
4. By asking for arrears from 22 June-30th June, the letter acknowledges that your rent is fully paid up to 22 June, 2016.
5. If (4) above is correct, you are first entitled to 6 months notice before the notice to recover possession.
6...
You should brief a lawyer in person. Don't reply on your own. Get professional advice and services.
Christianity EtcRe: A Song Only People That Attend Nigerian Churches Can Relate To by Rainmaker69(m): 6:27pm On Jun 19, 2016
Many of the songs sung in church don't mean anything. In fact, our ignorance is evidenced by our definition of 'gospel' and 'secular' songs. Any song that mentions the word 'god' is regarded as the former and vicee versa.
That's so simplistic and wrong!

We must critically examine our songs to classify them accordingly. There's no point singing 'me I no go suffer' during a "praise" session. The song is a prayer/declaration and not a praise song.
Christianity EtcRe: Can I Listen To Secular Music/clubbing And Still Be A Devoted Christian? by Rainmaker69(m): 6:12pm On Jun 19, 2016
Naija Christians are so sanctimonious! We are in the world but not of the world. Jesus died for sinners too. Mind you, a sinner isn't defined as someone who clubs or grooves. Sin is a spiritual ailment with physical symptoms but we get stuck focusing on the wrong symptoms!

Develop a relationship with God and there won't be need for all these funny threads.

BusinessRe: Will Nigerian Banks Ever Start Issuing Credit Cards? by Rainmaker69(m): 8:34am On May 13, 2016
The problem isn't giving credit, the problem is the interest rate. The rates are so high that it doesn't make good fiscal sense to issue credit cards. If business people are complaining, what hope is there for consumer-based credit?
The rates need to come down.

RomanceRe: Masturbation Vs Fornication by Rainmaker69(m): 12:44am On Apr 01, 2016
One of the shallowest contributions I've read on NL ever! Wth!
donshady:
None is advisable. but I'll still prefer fornication to masturbation because

1. Masturbation makes you weak, it drains protein and calcium content in the body

2. Masturbation creates nervousness and neurological problems

3. Masturbation is one of the main cause for erectile dysfunction.

4. Masturbation addicts you even if you taste it for one time. Controlling it is a very big menace.

5. Masturbation creates drowsiness; you will be sleeping most of the time after ejaculation of your sperm. You will experience a damn tired.

6. Masturbation causes stress and strain in your mind and soul.

7. Masturbation also affects us psychologically; it creates depression after ejaculation and makes one feeling bad on his own.

8. Getting red hot while masturbating will give a bad name in that environment and it is an indecent activity.

9. Masturbation cannot be done simply, it needs to see, touch, indulge or, at last to think of a sexual practice/ sex organ of the opposite sex. This is more harmful that the image in your memory that you see could not be erased easily. This will lead you to a noxious problem that you cannot see any girl/ lady/ women without a single thought i.e., sex.

10. Masturbation creates an urge to do indefinitely; it doesn’t see the place, people and culture. It makes you digging worse sexual problems if chance knocks the door.

11. Masturbation leads you to illegal contacts because the urge increases day by day and finally will lead to the search of a source for sexual pleasure.

12. Masturbation is the main reason for speedy sperm release during sexual intercourse. It will create dissatisfaction to you and to your wife.

13. Over masturbation reduces your sperm count. Couples who desire to get pregnant should not masturbate.

14. SThe seminal fluid that gets released on masturbation contains proteins that are needed for many metabolic activities and cell formations. Proteins are the building blocks of our body; ejaculation often will create you to be lean and distracts your metabolism of muscle building.

15. Ethically masturbation is wrong; you think of X/Y and do sex of your own. This hinders your values and respect for others. You may be are good in all other regards but will end up in a great problem if not concerned to stop this habit.

16. Masturbation wastes your time and makes you useless.

17. The pleasure of masturbation never lasts for a long time.

18. Masturbation creates more problems as you lose your memory and thought-provoking ability.

19. Masturbation is not the end of your desire; you may be fooled by your own practice. It will never give you a solution or a satisfaction but seems that it gives.

20. It is not needed in any way to your sexual life that it has to be practiced without fail.

21. Guys who masturbate will lose interest in sex with their wife very soon. They can’t feel pleasurable for a long time.

22. Masturbation induces homosexuals in schools, colleges and hostels. Many times the latter creates sexually transmitted diseases like VD, syphilis, AIDS etc.,
