At various times, Tambuwal has been a member of several committees including the House Committees on Rules & Business, Communications, Judiciary, Inter-Parliamentary and Water Resources. He was also a member of the House Ad hoc Committee on Constitution Review.

He was chairman of the ad hoc committee that reviewed the report of the controversial power probe committee headed by Ndudi Elumelu; chairman, House Sub-Committee on the Bill for an Act to Amend the Land Use Act, and acting chairman, House Committee on Power.

He was leader of the Nigerian delegation to African,Caribbean, Pacific & European Union Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU) and served as Vice-Chairman, Economic Committee ACP-EU, held in Prague,Czech Republic in April 2009.

just to mention a few of the "basic provisions for survival" that your governor should attend to instead of pulling useless stunts for photo-ops!

Those statistics are only a reflection of the general reality for millions of Nigerians across the country. We are talking about a rebirth, a change, from mediocrity to excellence through the progressive Barrister. The nation testifies of his sterling stewardship as the Speaker of the HoR.

You are so mediocre. Those are basic neccesities for survival, we are talking about propelling massive development through the efficient harnessing of the state's many resources in agriculture, leather, limestone, non-wood forest products (NWFP) like neem, Gum Arabic e.t.c. to mention a few. Its a pity years of misrule by the mishap called the PDP has reduced your expectations to spartan levels.

I agree with the other parts of your post except this one above. Let's leave political sentiments out of this, PMB was not in order by appointing Sylva. No one is debating the fact that Sylva is innocent until proven and pronounced guilty but it is not right that he was appointed while a corruption charge was pending against him.

Why is it that companies and organizations often suspend their staffs whenever there is a serious allegation against them pending when the allegations would be investigated and decided one way or the other. For a man with a much vaunted anti-corruption stance that appointment was in my opinion ill-thought. What would it have cost Buhari to appoint someone without any baggage hanging over him? Is Sylva the only person who could have discharged the functions of the post to which he was appointed?

It's just like when FFK was working for GEJ and went for his court appearance with presidential escort. Gej was widely condemned then despite d fact that FFK is also innocent until proven guilty. Buhari came in with a 'change' and 'zero-tolerance-for-corruption' mantra yet Sylva's appointment belied all that.

This same Buhari said he would not appoint corrupt persons. Let's now assume that Sylva is finally convicted. It means that Buhari appointed a corrupt person to kick start the process of forming his govt. Not only that, he is now being accused whether rightly or wrongly of nfluencing Sylva's case. He could have avoided all that by simply steering clear of sylva.

Your words are worth every kilo of their weight, however it is noteworthy that the appointment in question was that of a transition committee, which by its very nature, requires liaison with several organs of the outgoing government and as such, Sylva must have been of strategic value to the APC hence his appointment. The transient nature of the now expired appointment quite significant.

Stop trying to be clever by half, we are not speaking of 2007 VP Jonathan that was coerced and practically forced to declare by Late Yar'adua, but the immediate past President, except you want to tell us Jonathan subverted the constitution by refusing to declare his assets along with Sambo as constitutionally required upon assumption of the office of the President. If you want to prove a point, state the past Presidents assets and networth upon assumption of office of the President, and when he stepped down.

Again the focus is on urging PMB, not blaming Jonathan, it has already been established that his lack of commitment to the whole declaration process is why we are just discovering the constitutional challenges of TRULY publicly declaring assets.

But what is President Jonathan’s worth? That question still needs to be answered.

Since the president will not just tell us and save us and save himself the headache, we will calculate it for him.

But before we do so, lets look at what the law about declaration of assets says.

The Nigerian constitution requires that top government officials declare their assets before they are sworn into office. President Jonathan did not do so when he was sworn in on May 29, 2011. Nigerians had to huff and puff for months. During one media chat when the question was put to him that Nigerians were worried that he was disobeying the constitution by not declaring his assets as at when due, the president said he did not give a damn.

Eighteen months after, while nobody was looking, President Goodluck Jonathan declared his assets. We know this because on September 24th, 2012, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) Dr. Sam Saba, speaking through Alhaji Ibrahim Manzo, the Federal Commissioner representing North West in the Bureau, brought the good news to the media.

At that event, Saba reiterated that no law said that the President should declare his assets publicly. Saba also added, “What is important is that he has declared his assets and when we go through his form and we discover any area that is questionable, then we will take him to court.”

This was on September 24th, 2012. At that time the Code of Conduct Bureau was yet to go through President Jonathan’s form. Which was how we determined that it was sent to them around that time. And since we have not heard from Mr. Saba, over two years after, we can safely assume that he went through the forms and found nothing questionable that would require him to take the president to court as he promised in that speech at a Compliance Training Workshop for Public Officers in Abuja.

What President Jonathan declared is secret, sealed and locked away in the office of Code of Conduct Bureau. The presidency insists that the constitution did not require that he makes his declaration public. The chairman of Code of Conduct Bureau on his part asked those who want to know what is in the president’s declaration form to invoke the Freedom of Information Act.

Paragraph 3, Part I of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, provides that the Code of Conduct Bureau shall have power to: (a) receive declarations by public officers made under paragraph 12 of Part I of the Fifth Schedule to this Constitution; (b) examine the declarations in accordance with the requirements of the Code of Conduct or any law; (c) retain custody of such declarations and make them available for inspection by any citizen of Nigeria on such terms and conditions as the National Assembly may prescribe.

The next option left for Nigerians who wish to know the content of the president’s declaration forms was to invoke Schedule (c) which says that the Code of Conduct Bureau retains custody of such declarations and make them available for inspection by any citizen of Nigeria on such terms and conditions as the National Assembly may prescribe.

In October of 2011, the African Center for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL) dragged the Code of Conduct Bureau to court for failing to release to the public the asset declaration of the president. AFRICMIL had in July of 2011 sent a Freedom of Information request “to be allowed to inspect and obtain copies of the 2007 asset declaration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan; the asset declaration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan after the end of his tenure on May 28, 2011; and the current asset declaration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan when he assumed office on May 29, 2011.”

As expected, nothing has come out of it.

Whatever the constitution says, and whatever interpretation President Jonathan’s men give it, the gold standard has always been for government officials to make their asset declaration public on taking over office.

This is my last response to you. Until you can tell us the value of Jonathan's assets when he 'publicly' declared AND when he stepped down, then everything up there is tripe. The focus is on urging PMB to declare as early as possible amidst his now tight schedule, Jonathan has been relegated to Otuoke.

He never announced his assets like we want PMB to do now since the benchmark for governance has been elevated from Jonathan's mediocrity. He only submitted his declaration, same as what PMB/PYO have done, if he publicly announced please correct me and state his worth when he entered and when he left office.

No, PMB is not setting example... Yar'adua, a PDP president had done the same, even GEJ had previously declared his assets public... The constitution was there when Yar'adua declared his assets ( even though he didn't promise to do so like PMB).

If you had carefully read my comment, you'd see I specifically mentioned the past administration because it enacted the FOI Act which suffers the lacuna that is the basis of the current conflict.

Furthermore, GEJ never publicly declared his assets as President, he only did the constitutional minimum of submitting his declaration.

Clearly the past PDP administration was not committed to transparency, accountability and the whole asset declaration process, which is why we are just discovering these constitutional challenges now, an issue that would have been long resolved through making the required amendments which will force the CCB to publish submitted asset declarations in the newspapers.

Regardless of these hiccups, it would be great if President Buhari sets an example and ignores the usual long process, and publicly announces his declared assets so we can concentrate on other issues of national importance.

A former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, who was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, has been released.

Mr. Nyako was held after he turned in himself to the anti-graft agency.
Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for the EFCC said Mr. Nyako was released on what he called “administrative basis”.
Mr. Uwujaren said the former governor who is 73 years old, was also released based on his age and health concerns.
He said Mr. Nyako was allowed to go home at about 7p.m. but asked to report frequently at the commission.

Mr. Nyako was impeached as the Adamawa State governor on July 16, 2014 and later declared wanted by the anti-graft agency alongside his son Abdul Aziz Murtala Nyako, a retired naval officer in February.

They were both wanted for criminal conspiracy, stealing, abuse of office and money laundering.
The EFCC had alleged massive looting by top officials in Mr. Nyako’s government.
This led to the arrest of key officials in the state including, the then Secretary to the State Government, the State Commissioner for Finance, the Commissioner for Higher Education, the Accountant General of the State and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government.

The EFCC at the time said that its investigation was triggered by petitions alleging massive looting of the treasury by the governor and his cronies through an illegal department called Special Programme and Project Units, SPPU, which engaged in over invoicing and inflation of contract.
At the commencement of the EFCC’s investigations, Mr. Nyako left the country. He returned on Saturday nearly a year later.

Justice delayed is often said to have been denied, however the families of the victim will definitely gain some closure and feel a sense of justice if Ige's murderers are brought to book, especially considering the gruesome nature of the crime.

It will be recalled that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State and a former Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Chief Iyiola Omisore, the immediate past Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Jelili Adesiyan, and the current National Secretary of the PDP, Prof. Wale Oladipo, were arrested and charged for the murder.

Take a look at the characters and the party involved and it's no longer surprising why the case was abandoned for 14 years. The era of willfully subverting the delivery of justice for political expediency (Kashamu et al.) is over. Never again, change is here.

You have no proof of any corruption conviction on Sylva so PMB is in order by appointing him, anything else would be prejudice and pre-empting the courts.

There is no rational link, or evidence that the case which was withdrawn by the Director of Public Prosecution, O.J Nnadi (SAN), was initiated, sponsored, or supported by the Presidency. Don't give us the tripe about 'inside sources' so we do not reduce the level of this discourse. Remember that the judiciary and executive are separate and distinct arms of government and are in fact functionally designed to check each other, not collaborate.

Furthermore, it has emerged that the charges were dropped to allow a consolidation of the charges against the former governor, pending before two Federal High Courts in Abuja.

This issue is over-flogged to be honest. Even President Buhari's core loyalists will call him to question if he fails to publicly announce his declaration within 100 days as promised. If we expect integrity, we should also possess integrity.

If he has fulfilled the minimum constitutional requirements for asset declaration, and we want him to fulfill his promise as an indicator of our democratic progress, then we must abide to the terms of his promise in all fairness.
