CsRockefeller:That is the responsibility of MOT. The FMW should liaise with them and open a new desk or establish a joint taskforce for articulated and heavy duty vehicles to nip this cancer in the bud. And I mean not just chasing them around the streets but starting from the point if importation and registration of these trucks to certification for repairs and maintenance in designated auto shops before they can enter the premises of ports and depots. |
What sort of barriers were used. Those flimsy rubber bollards or serious concrete blocks. Drop half a dozen interlinked, ten ton concrete blocks and no one will get through without a huge crane or forklift. You guys are jokers, pretending not to know the country you work in. |
Just preoaring his people for post-oil realities. It is up to the people to respond with demands for accountability. When government asks for your books, ask for theirs in return. Democracy works when everyone is held accountable and made responsible. The governor has merely fired the first shots in the battle for fiscal liberty. |
Here we go again...nna eh...but a near dead citizenry cannot expect better. |
..China is watching with keen interest...meanwhile if the case is overturned by a higher court Ecobank will just print posters and the boys from Kaduna will settle the matter. |
Another distraction. Who is bringing all these stories from America that absolutely do not concern us. Who is turning our heads away from our own raging inferno. They surely want the house burnt to the ground. |
Great news if true, about an absolutely fantastic professional whose off field conduct has complemented his great exploits on the turf in recent years. His consistency, though strange for a Nigerian professional has obviously turned his stats into recognition. He will be sensational for a PSG team competing in a league that is not as demanding as the Premiership and will ensure his longevity. Next stop after that....Juventus to round up a classy career. Are the younger ones watching how to build a career through focus, hard work and fidelity. |
Hmmm....You all need El-Rufai and his morality police complete eith bulldozers and dump trucks to clean up your lives... ...what is my business... |
Minjim:Your last paragraph says it all. And this is what happens when individuals grow bigger than institutions. Where laws are personalised and where the Constitution is interpreted to the whims of whosoever holds the reins of power. But I do warn again as I do again and again. Those who desecrate the law and destroy institutions will SURELY fall victim to impunity when they least expect it and when they can so nothing to right the institutions they so undermined. The Nigerian Hall of Shame is filled with the names of those who today live in regret at their actions while in power and try as they may posterity just cannot give them the opportunity to make restitution. |
Scum of the earth. The police should it on this case for a very long time. There is something about 'hanging around with friends' that speaks to me of a gang or a syndicate. This thing may be wider and deeper than his immediate involvement. And this is why we stand firmly against lynchings and extra judicial killings. Let us be cerebral about crime prevention by nipping them in the bud. He should not be rushed into prosecution. |
Your worth is on the pitch, performing. That is all you are known for. As long as you are not playing you are worth a lot less to your team, your club, your fans and down the line it will impact your wallet. Nothing else matters. The career of a sportsman is like a mist. Let us see what matters to you. |
And who will second guess that.the kidnappers association of Nigeria has bought thousands of identities. |
illicit:That is Nigeria for you..in ither climes people are known for what they do. Here they are known for what they have. So the good is mixed up with bad and the ugly. |
Stewart883:Exactly. The driver is likely to have never formally learned how to drive and was likely impaired ast this time of the year., perhaps overworked as well. It takes 9 months to a year to learn how to become a train driver. In India that can last as long as 5 years. Same for pilots and boat captains. 24 hours before each journey/flight they ate tested for alcohol and drugs and have regular psychological examinations which they must pass or are removed from service. There is no alternative to mass transit when it comes to safety. If any country is serious about preserving lives, it invests in no other form of transportation. Let us grow out of this primitivism. |
Raph82:Alcohol, drugs, ignorance and all other mental impairments are global phenomena so are auto accidents. Its just a factor of population and the wealth that puts the number of vehicle accidents into play. Ultimately if you want to save lives you will have to invest in infrastructure and I do not mean the roads that will attract more carts but in mass transportation infrastructure which will drove down the number of deaths per miles travelled as you reduce the number of people masking critical operational decisions. The 18 seater bus has one driver, that is a ratio of 1:18. As you increase this ratio by adopting rail transport to say 1: 500, the risk of death or injury falls as well. Mass transit is the ultimate answer to safety issues in transport. No matter how good a deliver you are your biggest chance of dying on the roads is in your personal car. |
PARADIZEPRIEST:Mister. You really need to.expand your knowledge on this matter. Missionary schools offered very 'basic' education back then akin to literacy or adult education classes today to a people largely illiterate to educational standards not universally accepted or regulated. My mum was a product of a missionary school. She still had to go to a government institution for recognizable qualifications in teacher training. The purpose of those missionary schools back then was to enhance church outreaches and activities not necessarily education leading to professional products in diverse fields of endeavor as you have today. That is why when missionary schools began to get regulated, when their products were subject to external examinations and the candidates themselves aspired for non church professions they had to employ teaching professionals, build proper facilities, obtain proper teaching aids and thus they required funding. This is where most churches pulled out or struggled to raise funding and in the late 70's government had to step in. Today some church educational outreaches offer degrees in medicine, law and engineering at the college level. At grade school level students are expected to be competent to sit for NECO, JAMB, SAT, TOEFL, etc. These require high quality preparations. How do you offer all these free in a boarding set up for hundreds and thousands of people each year. From teaching locals to read so they can study the Bible, preach in English and do simple accounting to producing doctorate degree holders in medicine and engineering is a long way off. How people can compare such scenarios when the basic purposes are not the same befuddles me. If someone told me he could prepare my child for JAMB today for next to nothing or qualify him for a degree in law for N50,000 naira per semester, not only should I suspect foul play but I should be thoroughly ashamed if my child was not going to be a pastor or priest, doing God's benevolent work in future. |
deanoffaculty:Free...Good. BUT, How will the teachers be paid. How will the pupils be fed and housed. Hiw will electricity and water be provided. How will security, educational materials and statutory obligations be handled if the school is free. People say tithes and offerings. What they fail to understand is that there unlike taxes and levies of government, church offerings are not mandatory, are not enforceable and have no fixed rate so income for planning and budgetary purposes is impossible. Will you have a school open one week when offerings are adequate and closed the next when receipts are paltry.... No institution can successfully run that way. Then you have the issues of equity. If you make it free for one then it will have to be free for all. Who then will be a church member...the whole world of course. For no man will pay for what he can get free.... Just think about it for a minute and reason out reality. That is why the world has come to an ingenious decision called a scholarship. That enables the inadequate while maintaining equity and reality through set criteria. |
If you are not an American, please face your country and the daunting issues here. We have far, far, far bigger problems. For every negativity there, ours is on steroids. I cannot imagine how anyone will have time to put out fires in his neighborhood when his property is involved. |
sonnie10:It has been signed into law. Which means passed by your Representatives. Ask yourself when you permitted them to do that on your behalf. Our democracy in Nigeria is to insult one another in stupid ethnic superiority battles then go cast useless sentimental votes to empower failed individuals who have no single iota of knowledge of how to develop a nation...or move a people forward. ....and we so naively leave them to lead us by the nose ring like cattle into perdition without a shred of resistance. The water is not yet hot enough to skin the people of Nigeria alive. Let us continue being ignorant, sentimental and docile.... |
Is there anything left that this government will do and not ignite an inferno of civil unrest. The citizens of this country are regrettably docile. Look at the laws they permit. Taking their meagre savings, breaking into their piggy banks at pen point in exchange for what please.... |
What about China. Those ones are only concerned about business, deal making and what they stand to gain. Imagine, liberal capitalists being supportive while conservative socialists are looking the other way. Funny world. |
Fredmatic:2 Peter 3:8 makes it clear that God does not have a concept of, neither is He governed by the dimensions of time and space. He is immortal and omni present. Time and space is of mortality that man acquired when he sinned and lost his 'God-likeness'. Now man is desperately trying to regain the knowledge and immortality he sold to the devil through science and technology. |
Airplanes, airlines are not what government should be soending noney on. I cannot see how govermwnt wipl suceed in an induatry whete private operators are struggling. This venture will become a drain on its funds once new begins to age. We have been down this road several times before. Macro economics wil always be a great leveller as to what succeeds and fails in Nigeria. The responsibility of government is to create and secure opportunity. That's what its resources are for. Not business. Infrastructure, security, jurisprudence, legislation, etc. Organize society properly and let the people care for the services money exchanges hands for. |
Train versus sanity... What we said in 2015. Roads and rail lines will be built but Nigeria will not fundamentally improve. We still donot understand the difference between a real, living, mango tree and an artificial, dead, 'christmas tree' no matter the pleasures the later provides in our quest for development. They are just not the same. |
What a match. Ralph in tears. This is what the Premiership is all about. A real competition. They wore their hearts on their sleeves, rode their luck and came away with everything. Congrats to them. |
Liverpool opening the door for close rivals. The Premiership is such a hard, hard competition to defend. |
Southy adopting some Atletico Madrid DNA. Those ones can defend a one goal lead for six months. |
Pool shaky at the back.... |
A time is coming when folks will beg to restructure this country but alas it will be too broken to be salvageable. |
Exc2000:In your 'superior' wisdom how do you better the country without activism. I really like to know which country on earth you have seen improve without 'stimulus'. Speak up. |
pdppower:Vicious cycle of ignorance you dwell in. Those kidnappers/assasins are worth 100 times more alive than dead to those who know what to do to halt crime. If the deceased woman had information, she will be alive today. You learn nothing from simplicity. You will always be a step behind living a life of fatalism, guessing...and losing. |
The summary of Nigeria. A people that cannot make government work for their good. Most of the negatives he experienced are common throughout the world. The big difference however is that 'good derives power to overcome evil' by the quantum of citizen advocacy. Here however the people are weakened by ignorance, sentiment and selfishness. Serially failing to recognize the big picture of corporate prosperity as a key to development. Without restructuring the average citizen will never be shown how his actions (or inactions) affect his experience(s). The only difference between the rest of the world and here is RESPONSIBILITY. That is the one and only purpose of restructuring. If Nigeria is restructured it will be easy to govern, the good will naturally rise to power. But for now the citizen says typically... 'it is not my business...' |
