Heard a lot spoken about this matter. My take is simple. It is clear that the interest of individuals has become the order of the day at the expense of institutional building. This is against the backdrop of folks who have asserted that the appointment doesn't undermine the functions of INEC in any way. Then why did Mr. President not sign the electoral bill to make this assertion valid. You cannot avoid an action that will strengthen an institution then later watch as another action which weakens the same institution is made without wondering if indeed the interest of individuals supercedes that of the institution. And what makes an institution if not the interests of the stakeholders, the owners of such an institution. In black Africa and Nigeria in particular we seem to have this understanding that institutions are mere appendages of those in charge and they exist only to project the wills of those who happen to have the controlling power. We find it strange to believe for instance that if you run a bank that almost the entire worth of the business belongs to the very folks that come through the doors everyday some in flip flops. Not until they trigger a walk out are they taken serious. The policeman acts as if he is answerable only to his police superiors. Only when the tax dollars wane and his unit is cut in half does he realise his boss only exists because of the tax payer. Same with the entertainer or sportsman and his fans, and so on. The institution called INEC only exists to organize a means by which the people of Nigeria elect their leaders, period. It does not belong to Mr. President, his political party or his government. It belongs to the people whose views matter and when they have no confidence that they truly own it because it gravitates to the sole ownership of a certain individual or group then it loses credibility and this begins to implode as an institution. How many people today have the confidence to call INEC really INDEPENDENT.... This government is killing our institutions. If there is any legacy that is most important, this is it. Because roads will eventually develop potholes, airports will eventually become obsolete, hospitals will become outdated and ineffective, schools will grow and outsource, even investors will come in and cash out.... but institutions remain forever and are expected to outlive regime after regime, government after government. We know it is extremely hard for Nigerians to be visionaires and to plant the trees their unborn children will sit under but if this cycle of suffering has to end one day in the future then we must start the battle here, to fight for the establishment of these institutions and to take them back from these folks who have no serious intentions of making a future beyond themselves. In any sane society passing through the rough seas we find ourselves, the society will collective rise and simply say, No. We cannot accept this. |
Driggs:You're just silly. There is no advice for your type. Putting it mildly. |
Mizwisdom:I will fly with them if around the area. I too am tired by the wanton debauchery and criminal indecency openly advertised in public these days. I also hope the halal flight experience it is extended to the airport terminals where you see and hear all manner of animals calling themselves human. |
DREAMZZZ:It is not Nigerians praising him alone. Most of the vibes are coming from Spain itself and you must know that they know football in Spain intoto. The league that has produced the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Figo, Iniesta must surely know quality when they see it. |
Watched the chap yesterday. He was that good. His close control is marquee, has pace, passing is good and has a fantastic shot. What actually impresses me about him is his fearlessness and his ability to mix up his techniques in knowing when to pass and when to run, this factor lost on most Nigerian footballers. My worry is that Villareal is desperately seeking to raise his buyout from the current 40 million dollars. This will put his movement and potential growth path in the hands of only the biggest clubs where he may be truncated...ala Iheanacho. His stock is rising too fast for proper, solid career development. |
maberry:See this man. Which government is the victim here. You order for lunch and say the chef is the victim of the heat in the kitchen when you are the one paying the bill and he making the profit. Pally, wake up. You are the victim of all this. It is you who pays, it is you who is getting poorer. Their homes and offices are electrified 24/7 at tax payers expense while you scamper all over the place for 3 hours of power a day. |
SalamRushdie:Losing an engine is a big deal mister. In standard aviation practice the pilot will declare an emergency and locate the nearest airfield for landing simply because the cause of such failure is not likely to be determinate or rectifiable in all cases. So don't make it look as if it is not a big deal. It is not a comfortable nor a secure ride. It is just possible, no more, period. In the history of aviation engine loss incidents have resulted in a 50:50 disaster scenario. Some have escaped, others have not. The key here is what caused the loss of the engine and the quality of aircraft and aircrew in question. Today aircraft engine development and advancements has enabled ETOPS for twin engined aircrafts flying intercontinental, i.e over water but these are aircrafts and engines we certainly cannot afford in Nigeria for now. So any loss of engine in flight in Nigeria right now is a very big deal. |
Blackpromise:It depends on what type of engine loss and what is the cause of the loss.... and which of the two engines is lost and which model of aircraft, age of aircraft, etc. All these factors will ultimately determine if it will be survivable. In Nigeria the famous DANA flight incident started with a midflight single engine failure. The rest is history. |
Lordjb:Kai but Modric is a baller. His distribution is superb. |
Benzema has equalized. This game is super hot. |
This is nonsense. Turn to Villareal NOW and see our man Chukwueze dazzle and razzle Real Madrid's backline for an assist for Santi Cazorla's opener. This guy is bad. |
By 2019 everyone will be demystified... oops... we are already in 2019...the year of scandals.... so folks strap yourselves in for some real shockers to come. |
Mr Obi please cut out this talk. The time is at hand. The elections are almost upon us. We want issue based comments and commitments not rhetoric. We are tired of hearing phony idealism from both sides of the political divide. It simply cannot put food on the table, cut into the dreary unemployment statistics or end the Boko Haram insurgency. |
Did I not tell you folks that by 2019 everyone will be demystified. Just returned to Abuja from my two week vacation in the much trumpeted and seriously overhyped Lagos (story for another day) and what is the story allover the airwaves. The appointment of a relation of Mr. President to head the panel that will collate election results... and I am like... well if this is not demystification... what is.... What exactly is the meaning of the word INTEGRITY to this government because I am stunned that such a thing can happen in a country like Nigeria and the streeys are not ablaze by now. What exactly is happening in Nigeria. Why this unfortunate turn of events. Why has this President and Presidency gone so sour. Why destroy the very institution that enabled your opportunity at power. Why. |
Except in anticipation of Hazards Madrid's move. Because they play exactly alike. Huff and puff, scant goals. |
GTBank remains the best bank I have used. |
Then you better hope it is not your first and primary heir so it all balances out. |
Invest in Intercity rail and stop wasting money on frivolities mister. |
gratiaeo:That is the problem. Politics has so eaten away at the professionalism of the military that even they know how to 'time tag' events away from this dispensation not minding the damage it is doing to their own institution. Same thing the Babangida regime was doing in the eighties and lots of folks including me simply walked away. If it is propaganda the military is not supposed to react this way but with facts and stats. If it is true, likewise. There is nothing they stand to gain from politicising this war. In all likelihood we will be fighting these insurgents for decades to come through many political administrations. Why destroy your institution for the pleasure of just one passing phase. |
It is against the law. Various police formations repeat this warning every year end and you feel it doesn't bother you or you are not aware. That is what worries me. That at your age, you are not aware of what it entails to live in a decent, law abiding society. How will I trust you to make the right decisions at the next elections just around the corner. You see the serious challenges we face in Nigeria. |
The aspirant is so stupid. He took the woman BACK TO THE MAN TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. What if he brought out a wrapon and finished her off. Shouldn't he be calling the police. Is he a police investigator. What is he 'finding out'. And the silly man is standing for election when he knows nothing of his basic civic responsibilities. For the public and society in general, I repeat. Do more for the girl child. Please build better quality women. Advance their education, their rights. Empower them to make better choices and enable them to recover better from bad ones. It is simply heartbreaking to see unsavoury sights like these. Really sad. |
We should intensify our effort in bringing this evil souls to an abrupt end. We shouldn't focus on how Boko Haram started at this point, but we should talk more about the solution to it... .....and for the Wailers that are happy about this news as usual, thus is for you evil people.... You wake up every morning and rush to social media in search of bad news of this nation,so that you will comment and share it among your friends.......but when you see the good news ,you pretend to be blind. And every night you stay in one corner of your room praying to God to bless anything you lay your hands on in the same country Hmmmm!!! May God forgive and have mercy on you. #May Our President Succeed #When Nigeria become great , you will surely see it
My friend shut it and sit down. You can run this form of government for a thousand years and be guaranteed that it cannot get better. You keep on pouring water into this basket case called Nigeria and you will die of thirst. It is not a curse. The structure of this country is hopelessly defective and Boko Haram is simply the virus that exploits the weakened immunity of this nation. Whether you like it or not the best this government or any other can make are superficial improvements. I said before the last elections and I am saying it again after four years. Your Buhari may win but please leave out Nigeria from your parochial views. It cannot get fundamentally better under this structure. |
TechCapon:Are soldiers not part of government again. What are you saying? When a person swears on oath to defend the integrity of the country, what does he become. Please educate yourslef first. You guys are part of the problem. An ignorant society simply cannot get better that its status quo. Just looking for ways to defend you pet political leadership and absolve them of responsibility. |
MI: Fallout.... and it didn't disappoint. |
And where is the Iphone 4 today.... Apple have since moved on. Entertainers... the country over in sports, music, motion picture, the web, etc Women who dwell on the outside, read this..... The shorter the validity of a 'thing', the less should your earthly resources of time and treasure be spent on them. If I am looking for a phone it is the one that will give me at least ten years of uninterrupted service. For me the longer the better. |
And 35 years later nothing has changed. Every ill that led to the coup is fully in force today. |
Such a gentleman. Will be sorely missed. |
chymevicks:Let us stop about this revenue or income abeg. It belittes the significance of what is happening. Nobody is begging them to reccgnise the benefits. No one is trying to incentify them to accepting that business... it is a matter of civil liberties enshrined in our constitution and where states are permitted to cross certain dangerous lines it goes beyond the business realm into the very stability of the country. Kano state is setting a dangerous precedent that is bound to have serious repercussions down the line. |
Sardauna24:Who asks cattle rearers to take their cattle on foot across various southern and middle belt states when they know open grazing is prohibited. For equity these beer dustributors should not keep silent but threaten the authorities of this state just as herdsmen continue to threaten their host states. Period. This country is not at the service nor at the pleasure of one section alone. That is why we need restructuring. For at least mutual respect. |
So why doesn't the Federal Government set up beer colonies as they want to do for cattle to evade the anti-grazing laws. Why isn't Federal land in Kano not proposed for this alcohol colony. Or should they wait for beer distributors to form their own 'Miyetti' complete with AK47 wielding youths to guard against Kano locals and sack any community that interfers with their liquor business. Will this not be justice. |
And he will still be re elected. |
Yeah, had lunch at the Rhapsody or whatever it is called at Alausa yesterday and all the cards failed. Had to empty my pockets.... just embarassing. |
