Okay will watch when I return from my outing to Ikeja. Lagos traffic is not allowing me to enjoy my holidays in Lagos. Getting round to places is hectic. It appears tourism is for the Islanders only. Everything else is just.... mediocre. |
BiafraBushBoy:Honestly troubling this whole scenario. The run up to the 2015 polls though seriously flawed and short on quality was a lot better than what we are seeing in the run up to the 2019 polls just weeks away. I cannot for the life of me imagine that a country with do much leadership challenges cannot query its leadership at such an opportuned time like this when by law and nature they are at the weakest and most vulnerable. Nigerians should not blame anyone but themselves if whoever is elected does not deliver because it is clear the electorate is not ready to order, but give these leaders a free pass to power while they squabble over mundane issues. |
Abuheekmat:So what do you demand of this government that you defend with every fiber in you like you are the Minister of Labour & Productivity. What ideas do they have to help folks like you... I mean solid ideas, not giving you 10,000 and expecting you to make a living hawking imported knockoff Chinese goods. I mean the elections are here and you have six weeks or so to define how the next four years will be. What are your demands from them for the effort in getring them back into office....? |
puretayo:They are not reacting to anything. They have always given. It is you that is just taking notice because of the recent media spotlight on the church. |
Looks like Liverpool's season to lose. |
City currently losing. If they cannot keep in touch with Pool before the New Year then its curtains for their ambition to retain their crown. The Premiership title is notoriously difficult to defend. |
That is why I say democracy can never grow in the south-west with this godfatherism attitude and it was all started by Tinubu. No leader in that region since him has been elected by popular mandate. They are all appointed to power and rubber stamped by a phantom process. In years to come you will have power brokers all over the place justling to become 'a Jagaban' type godfather with the attendant effect of less service to the prople and more loyalty to the master. With time the interests of the people will fade as can be seen in Lagos and the decline in the quality of supossedly elected officials. |
As you all know, the sum of two wrongs does not make a right. This kind of narrative feeds into the popular thought that in Nigeria things are doomed to regression.... that we simply cannot have a better future. If not why can't we simply ignore people, plaves and platonic events and reach out to progressive ways. Yes, the APC is in power and are complaining about certain things they formented, but if this course continues don't we expect that the next time the PDP is in power the situation will be much, much worse. Then who does all these eye for an eye skirmishes profit, no one. Most nations I know of use the lessons of conflict to progress the space vacated by the combatants. We donot just seem mentally able to rise above sentiments. From the civil war fought almost half a century ago till the politics of bitterness just a couple of years ago, we are stuck as a society in this mental prison of distrust, revenge and bitterness.... the typical mentality behind lynching on the streets... the kind that is swift to act without consideration and results in a society that is scant better nor wiser about the reasons behind its problems. It is so disappointing to see members of the PDP and their supporters doing this. |
Hmmm.... mammy market, the antithesis of military professionalism.... the harbinger of the political soldier and the crucible where many a coups were distilled....how the history of Nigeria will have taken such a different course if the infamous mammy market was never concieved. |
1miccza:Of course anything you don't know defies your explanation. It is just a matter of seeking better knowledge. In Africa the knowledge threshold is very low so the vacuum is filled with spiritist ideology. |
unohbethel:Honestly. Thought the man is under investigation for contractual fraud to the tune of a few hundred million. These are mixed signals this government is sending.... or is he under immunity as well. It appears this fight against corruption is as arbitrary, random and spontaneous as an early morning, wake up sneeze in the harmattan season. |
You cannot see a single argument for or against programs, policies or principles, just a kindergarten 'I'm better than you' butter brawl and a whole lot of sick racial expletives by the youth and so called leaders of tomorrow.... And they sit there hoping things can get better. Even the ignorant, visceral red necks of middle America, the butt of untold jokes do far better than this in proper political awareness. |
Passed through early this morning on my way for the Christmas holidays. Vehicular access is still not done and will remain a nightmare. |
sanusikebbe:So, so ignorant.Typical Nigerian. When something cannot be fixed, like a baby....destroy!!! destroy!!! But if you destroy the national assembly how will your Oga rule Nigeria. Note the word rule because that is what it is... government by rules... laws. The National Assembly makes the laws that enable the Executive to rule. Without laws no one is under obligation to obey government or any of its agencies, i.e without laws the government is illegitimate. So be careful what you wish for. Nigerians really need to know how this car of democracy works, if not when it breaks down it will be mere guess work in fixing it. Oga, gain knowledge. Please don't ask for anarchy. |
That bakery must have bred rats the size of cats for a snake to get that big. |
Totally agree. |
Prompto:Stop this nonsense abeg. If to be in power makes you belong then why doesn't this government appoint a high ranking shiite into government to be a go between. At least you will get an ear on both sides. What will it cost us to forment peace. Why can't we as a people demand for peace. Why are we so content at killing eveyone that has a different view. I was not from the Niger Delta when I opposed the militarisation of the agitation for resource control, I am no Shiite and I am not from the east but I was very vocal when civilians were gunned down randomly under the so called Operation Python dance because as a responsible citizen those are standards that are not acceptable in a modern society. You have a Vice President who is learned and should be conversant with international law and best practices. But what I am saying is that knowledge is not enough. You have to rise as a people to force the standards of society you wish to live in. And I simply donot agree with your standards. Remember Boko Haram started as a DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW. You can see what it has become today at the hands of the citizens of Nigeria who have no standards for humanity and goad their leaders to continue to do the wrong thing. |
prela:It is beyond all that. Don't simplify issues. Before 2014 he was nowhere near any sort of power influenced decision making. What we are talking about goes beyond any single individual. It is about us, the people. We are the ones that give them the power to do these unspeakable things and prove it by supporting them after the acts. It is us that need sorting out About the maverick President Trump and the migrant caravan that got to the southern US border there was a press interview with a serving soldier and he was asked to define what was lawful and what wasn't in his actiins and he was very clear that the President was the C in C but they were very conscious of what a lawful order was and what an unlawful order was and if they were asked to conduct and unlawful order they will simply disobey it. They knew the rules of engagement. Now what happens when a few 'patriots' go overboard and carry out an unlawful order. That is when society will gather, condemn it and seek punishment for the offender as inthe case of the murdered Saudi journalist. The President doesn't care but the people do so the President will suffer retribution for erring. That is a society that works. That is a society that has values. That is a society 'owned' by no one man, grouping, tribe, religion, etc. And that is why it progresses, it is loved and everyone wants a part of it. We know what will hapoen if Trump had the powers we accord our leaders here. It is about the people folks. |
bilms:What can I say. What can I add to this. The country is a reflection of its leaders. The leaders are a reflection of its people. Failed people begets a failed nation and Nigeria is seriously letting a lot of us down. That's why we keep on saying these things. We need to come together to discuss how we live in relation with one another and to agree the standards for our humanity. We have very few things in common. The truth is that presently you can barely find two Nigerians that can agree on what it means to be Nigerian. How we have existed to this point is one big, false miracle. |
Didn't watch but if the reports that I heard are true that is very reprehensible on the part of those PDP lawmakers. Totally disgusting and unwarranted. I keep on saying this. We must as sensible people learn where the line between politics and government is, the lines between the individual and the instiution, the edge beyond which personalities end and processes begin. Yes the Legislature is an independent arm but an equal arm of government to the Executive not superior. They must accord every respect to the Executive and the institution of the Presidency because whoever occupies it was elected by a far greater number of citizens than any other elected offical in all of Nigeria. He is the most popular Nigeria politician by a long way. To denigrate his person then will be to destroy themselves absolutely and well meaning Nigerians must roundly condemn this as setting a very, very bad precedence. This toxicity brewing in the polity must end. All interaction and discourse must be conducted in civility and with due respect for the individuals and offices they occupy. Only then can the people of this country benefit from this democratic experiment. Very shameful. For what. |
To be honest things are really bad out there economically. No only that jobs are being lost, real wages are edging downwards including contractual rates. I was amazed what a competing firm was paying its contract staff when I paid a visit to them some two weeks ago. Rates I was paying some 8 or 9 years ago and the workers were at it.... without much fuss... I just donot know what will happen to them by 2019. This government must do something about it. If it cannot liberalise the economy then I think it should revisit the TSA and get more money into commercial banks. If stagflation hits us.... then the mother of all crises will have berthed. |
Kogi state is the hub of all traffic from the east, west and south going through the centre corridor to the north yet it has the worst roads in Nigeria. What will it cost the state government to declare a state of emergency on all the roads in its territory and make them motorable with a solid business plan while making a killing by tolling all of them. Afterall the governor is from the ruling party and is always chasing Mr. President around for the press. What stops him from ending this hardship and carnage. The structure of this country is just hopelless. We can never develop in a thousand years like this. |
PraisePiano:You are very silly and your corrosive attitude will never inspire others to keep this country a living hell. |
Good. You added N1.52 kobo to your savings. Then what. It is a means to prosperity. It is not an end so it cannot be counted as an achievement. It does not immediately address our problems which I continue to emphasize is the patent lack of productivity. As a nation we are just not earning enough to progress, to keep up with the pace of our population growth. I reminded some folks just yesterday. Oil which remains our mainstay gold laying goose has been stuck around dropping 2 million eggs for some two decades or so from when our family had 120 million bellies to fill till now when we have added another third, 60 million empty plates. So to be at or to return the poverty levels of the Abacha era we need a daily oil output of some 3 million barrels per day which is not even on the cards, so where is this shortfal some 5 trillion coming from... The fact is that Nigerians are poorer by the year by default simply because our economy is not generating new cash. We are not prepared by structure to find the new oil reserves. This is the mandate of government and the barometer by which its economic programs, successes and failures should be judged, not foreign reserves that are pitifully meagre compared to its massive debt counterpart. |

Koolking:Bad eggs as in the Guards Brigade? Do you know what the Guards Brigade is and what their responsibilities are? .. Are you serious. My friend. This is a democracy. And the way things are done to uphold a nation run in a democracy are to exhaust ALL avenues of civil dialogue before the use of deadly force and this is when those opposed use equally deadly force in scenarios that cannot be de escalated. What we are witnessing is a government and leadership that appears to dislike (to put it mildly) a particular set of citizens to the point of desiring to exterminate them. Why this is happening I cannot understand completely but what the government should realise is that creating unnecessary instability in the quest for peace is not going to make it easier for it to govern in the long run. Remember this is a democracy and the articles of a democracy are rules and laws. Where are the laws and rules of engagement that permitted them to kill those people like that. If the government had at its disposal 30,000 police officers for one weekend of elections in just a state why couldn't it have deployed same to Abuja with well delivered intelligence about such a march going to happen. The Guards Brigade were obviously used because of loyalty to the very top. There are many more rings of protection the Federal Capital Territory has before you get to the GB who for all intents are the military protectors of the seat of power. That check point was on the outskirts of Abuja and several kilometres from the Villa. It is like a protest happening in down town Washington DC and fighter jets are scrambled from Andrews Airfore base to straff them together with missiles launched from the White House defense battery. Just ridiculous. Using a GPMG in town with innocent civilians all around is just insane. A single round from that things can travel a kilometer and half and kill someone in his office who isn't even aware of what is happening. Those are battle field weapons used in town for heavens sake...in the capital... come on. |
Yes, everyine is saluting his fellow soldier until the guns are turned inward. Politics.... |
NaijaTalkTown:Please not everyone shares your sentiments abeg. Not everyone else is a pained United fan. Out there they live and breathe stats and facts. With the exception of Zidane which top coach has not been sacked or relieved of his duties before. The football world for coaches is a revolving door and is very 'in the now business'. You retain you job based on your performance yesterday but you get future jobs based on your entire CV and Manchester United will be no more than a snapshot of his elaborate CV and he made that clear a while ago when he said he won 3 premiership titles. Only retired Sir Alex has done better so as far as the Premiership is concerned or any of the top european clubs his CV will decide his earnings, his image rights will determine his earnings and the competence of his negotiating team will dertermine his future earnings... not Nigerian type sentiment. |
Lagos as the former capital of Nigeria and the defacto crucible of modern Nigeria politics should do better than this. MKO will be turning in his grave as to what the state has become.... a one party totalitarian entity completely at odds with modern day pluralism and multi party democracy. |
United's problems are deeper than coaching. |
Auskas:They have no purpose. They subdidize our inability to gel as a society and are the main bulwarks of tribalism throughout the country. Educate our people and watch as these little emperors lose all relevance. All tradition is anti-development and will have to give way if we are to move forward. Nations are busy crystallising ideals while we are stuck with the burden of over 450 tribes. How can we move forward that way. |
G menzino:You folks are too many in that family. Imagine if the 90 million or so women of Nigeria multiply 7 fold in the next generation our population could easily top 1 billion in 50 years. Can we multiply the number of maternity homes 7 fold in that time. Can we multiply 7 fold the number of schools to take care of their offspring. Can we increase power generation to 35,000 megawatts from 5,000 in that time. What about roads, budgets, taxes, etc... because if we can't the only thing sure to rise will be poverty. Yoi owe it a duty to keep within the 2.5 children limit for sustainability. |
