If the office of the President has been devalued by the House, it did not start with this regime and the APC has played a big part in that in the past. I hope things can be reversed some day.

Tinubu and much of the SW had begged for return of fiscal federalism and regional govt system to Nigeria.

Last presidential election, GEJ begged the SW to have patience and vote him so that the prescriptions of the last CONFAB could be implemented in the next NASS, because the outgoing NASS legislators were hostile to the CONFAB.

If the resolutions of the last CONFAB are implemented, it makes it easiest for any form of political reforms desired by south of Nigeria.

"Sophisticated"huh? huh SW instead voted Buhari who would have nothing to do with political reforms or return of fiscal federalism or regional government system to Nigeria.
Hmmm. Talk for another day. We don't know the extent of damage we had done to our future by the outcome of the last election. That topic is for superior thinkers.

The same thing happened in Rivers State. At a time one didn't know who was contesting for governor, Amaechi or Peterside. The public sort of hates this kind of thing, naked godfatherism. Is Tinubu now the party? The statement by Lai that APC 'has MANY leaders' will haunt that party. This evening someone rolled out the various leaders Lai may have activated by his gaffe. Leaders of: ACN - APC, CPC - APC, ANPP - APC, PDP - APC then you wonder where the likes of John Oyegun fit in. What exactly is his portfolio and where does he stand in all this. What we may be seeing in the APC could be likened to the delamination of a composite material Instead of the effeciencies gained by individual capacities and competencies.

Let's also award all absent votets vote to jonathan and be fair . . . Learn to make sense in your post, if saraki was so sure of his votes he should have allowed his colleagues to honourably loss, this is common decency that seems lost to pdp minions. I rest my post.
Oga. What they are simply saying is that though the APC has a majority does it mean the party representatives can simply walk-out of the chamber, attend other functions and keep the rest of the House waiting. To you, does party programs superceed national programs. It is not like APC has 108 senators and the PDP just 1. You left a potential quorum running in the House and went for a meeting when you have just about a dozen more votes.

APC were changing a flat tyre with the engine on and the gear engaged. Even a fly could be elected Senate President with that unprecedented error.

I know in private, even PDP members would find what he did despicable.
Despicable?? The PDP will be rubbing their hands in glee wishing, just wishing the APC makes the wrong move and escalates the situation. What makes you think the PDP is interested in the peace and success of the APC. It is only those PDP ranking officers who thought of defecting to the APC that will be aghast.

Even if she is doing it on the surface because of the affront on Tinubu, it must be stated clearly that mrs Tinubu's has always stood on the part of principle, even if she is emotional and guided by family bonds.
I doff my hat to her and Gbajamiala for their stance.
The party's position reigns supreme and you cannot win an election under a party and decide to hand power to the party you defeated.
If Saraki felt he was that strong,he should have contested under PDP.
Many are conveniently forgetting that some of the new APC members today won their elections because of the Buhari phenomenon and the APC onslaught.
Let's assume that at worse, kwara had been won by PDP with Saraki still in party,PDP would have got 52 and APC 57 senators. APC would still have had d majority and had produced the senate president and Saraki would have been an ordinary floor member. So Saraki 's just acted treacherous and mrs Tinubu has acted like a hard core pity woman, because without apc ,no sp for Saraki.
I just hope Saraki gets impeached.
You want the Senate President to be impeached because the Tinubus didn't have their way. What sort of thinking is that. Just like the Amaechi Peterside Wike drama. If the Tinubus wanted the position so badly they should have contested for it. It is so clear from reports I've read and people I have spoken to that the whole drama ensued because of the north's fear of the overbearing influence of Tinubu within the party. If the message of the day is not received loud and clear in Lagos then APC west is in for it. The north will simply form new alliances. To them Bukola Saraki was the bridge between the west and the north simply because he is a yoruba speaking northerner. If APC West cannot match that balance, too bad. Power has shifted to the north, period.

Everybody talking about Tinubus influence, but between Dagora and Femi, who was the better candidate? Did anyone honestly hear about Dagora before this elections? Same with Saraki and Lawal. Saraki is only popular cos he's a former governor. He had zero contribution to the senate when he was there last term. Plus he's also popular because he looted his state and his family bank duped people.
You really need to understand what democracy is all about. How many times will I say that when the structure is bad you can never produce the best hands. For goodness sake is Buhari or was Goodluck the best. If not how will ayou expect the Vice President, Senate President and Rep. Leader to be top shots. If the system was that good Nigeria will not be where is. Change the game not the players.

There is a serious battle of supremacy in APC between the Tinubu camp and the Atiku(N-PDP) camp. The atiku camp felt they are being sidelined as the tinubu camp produced the VP and the party chairman. The choice of the senate president and house of reps was a time for the atiku camp to strike and they were successful by subduing the tinubu camp. They will always reach out to the PDP when the need arises.

Its all a game of politics you know! At the end, they are still APC members.
For how long?

Cool. For the good of the country in the spirit of democracy. But I'm sure secretly you will be relieved. Your party has played into your hands. The statement by Lai Mihammed was the clincher. 'The party has many leadershuh??' Who makes that kind of dumb statement in a democracy such as ours. The President assuming leadership of his party is a no brainer. I think Buhari sucked them in by his 'I belong to no one...' . The party simply misread this.

Very correct!

The man who came second to Buhari at the APC primaries!

The three strands of APC (CPC-Buhari, ACN-Tinubu, nPDP-Saraki) do dey show face!

Kwankwaso went with Saraki- Governor's Forum/New PDP Ties.

Will Amaechi go with Saraki? I think he will!

If GEJ remains powerful in PDP, Saraki and his new PDP people will form a new party. Mark my words!

The days of an overbearing Obasanjo are over!

Tinubu is being checked!

Buhari will have to confront both the Tinubu and Saraki groups if he does not politic (which is the CHANGE some voted for).

Buhari will have to confront the same people who drafted him into the race to get rid of GEJ. He would not find it easy. I hope he has learnt from GEJ's errors of trusting and trying to pacify these people.

Now, people will see what GEJ suffered in the hands of these people.

As long as they all are not able to gang up against the masses, I am happy.

I'm so loving this!

PS

I suspect a major fall out between Tinubu and Fashola.

I will explain when the time comes.

Yeah. I can imagine Fashola raising a glass of Dom Perignon 53 with a wry smile. Politics 007.

And i can see a supreme court judgment underway....suspending the Senate until further notice.

The illegality in the action of the so called clerk of the house will not stand. Having inaugurated 57senators only out of 109, that is not even up to a quorum (quorum is 1/3rd for normal plenary...but for extraordinary plenary such as this and constitution amendment among others specified by law, it is 2/3rd).

And this was also without the requisite formal declaration by Mr President, signalling the launching of the new assembly.
That said, APC needs to checkmate the activities of certain people. Saraki has only confirmed that he is far from "change" as he is neck deep in romance with the PdP gang. Shame to kwankwaso also, for being no different...now I know never to trust the so called N-PDP boys who ought to have been left to rot in political oblivion like Lamido and Muazu.

First, he called the VP a mere commissioner.
Secondly, he damned the meeting with mr president.
Thirdly, he paired with pdp imps.

My advicr to Buhari, this guy still has 4 heavy corruption baggages....it is either you immediately recruit Nuhu Ribadu into the EFCC, or you consult OBJ on how to deal ruthlessly with Senate Presidents.

Wabara knows what I'm talking about
Kai, kai, kai. Cool down. Your blood too hot. I warned the APC to make the whole thing open, level and transparent but they sowed into factionalisation for sordid personal interests and are reaping betrayal big time. How can a party walk with its two eyes open into pit its predecessor fell into, two weeks, just two weeks after assuming power. Haba APC.

Politics › Re: Ike Ekweremadu Emerges Deputy-Senate President Of 8th Senate by Reference(m): 12:41pm On Jun 09, 2015
If they are making David Mark Majority Leader then it means the Legislature has almost totally disengaged from their respective party lineages and have closed ranks across the polity to perhaps found a power bloc on their own. This is bad. I hate gang-ug-ups. I hate consensus. Now there will not be any debates, no inter-party battles, just agreements, back scratching and Nigeria loses.

its so shocking that the APC could fall into such an obvious trap. The nemesis of the PDP began with 'imposition' of candidates. Didnt they learn from that?
How do you try to FORCE a leader on 'equals'? They
should have just let the legislators canvass their colleagues and let the most accepted emerge. If the party was particular about zoning, they had two months to sort that out within their ranks. I expect the same thing to play out in the House of reps.
moreover, PMB is focussed on what he came to do, and was wise not to be distracted and rubbished by the legislators internal affairs. The Assembly did a lot in the 7th assembly to break away from 'Executive Interference'. It would have
been foolish of PMB to want to draw them back there.
Na Jagaban no dey hear word or smell the coffee say

Exactly. And how the APC reacts to this will determine whether it will get better or worse. To remove the powers of the legislature to elect their leaders will take bi-partisan action

I don't really have a problem with Saraki as the new Senate president but this singular act is not reasonable enough, im so sure its the price he has to pay to get the endorsement from the PDP Senators.

The only sensible thing to do is for him to defect back to the PDP so we know we have opposition leaders as the Senate and Deputy senate president .
