12ema: Or, they are not just disciplined enough to wear it/their supervisors are not enforcing the uniform standards/probably there are no uniform standards. For where they are and what they are doing they don't need it. Helmets are not exactly fashion accessories. Helmets are not comfortable. And those two need comfort to handle their tasks which is very, very important. Generally the helmet goes with the rifle which means infantry operations or engagements. There is no evidence these are infantry men or they are in harm's way. |

LRNZH: Echo...Roger that. You just echoed my thoughts.
Helmet money has gone into GEJ campaigns Which army did you serve in that you gives you such abilities to comment on things you obviously know nothing about. Without looking at the picture twice I can tell you these officers are conducting recconaisance operations and reporting their mission. They are under cover, in an elevated position and well away from the positions of confrontation. The Lieutenant is obviously reading a map and and the other fellow is likely relaying the co.ordinates. If they are TANA's I won't be surprised. They will be calling in artillery support or if they are infantry they may be calling in air support, armoured support or simply directing infantry movements. Their work is meticulous (you know the result of errors) tedious, the weather is hot, they need to focus, they are not under threat. They donot need gaddem helmets which are probably somewhere out of screen shot. Why didn't you ask whether they have donated their rifles to the enemy as that is your next line. Once again. Which unit did you serve that makes you so sure of the errors you constantly depoy here. |

The said house forgot so easily that the said brand of commuter bus is predominantly use in Nigeria in commuting its citizens to and fro therefore is more likely to be the model to involve in an eccident
The said law makers forgot so easily like my mentor living in London do say if he visit Nigeria "you don't speed with Belgium and obsolete autos" whenever he sees old vehicle speeding ; that 80% percent of those hiace buses are pretty much old, a law is needed to pull them off our road Instead of banning them
Prominency playing a role why a whole house will start now to investigate cum ban such a menace
I cry for my country I will speculate that it is the Press that engineered the ban aspect of the report. Investigations by the legislature into consumer goods gone wrong has a long and chequered history worldwide and Toyota appearing before legislature is no new thing. Committees usually handle these matters so it doesn't bog the Houses' down and yes personal bills and consumer protection oversight is important. |

We hear these sort of things all the time, one minute they say fat is not good for you, the next, they say it is.. Which are we to follow?
They fact is, if you choose to heed lots of these advices, you're going to live a very stressful & paranoid life.
I drink cold water all day, in summer or winter as a matter of fact, tap water is cold water. The human body is engineered to regulate itself based on both internal & external factors, thereby ensuring there's a constant state of metabolic equilibrium (this is called homeostasis)
So I trust my body to take care of itself, if the water I ingest is too cold, then warm it!! Abi oh. If I'm hot and thirsty and my head feels like a blown gasket it is my brain that tells me boy you need to sink your body temperature fast or go into shock. It is the body that sends the signals and not some wierd desire. In those days as kids when we run temperature the doctor gives an ice bath before treatment to bring down the body temperature to avoid brain damage. Lowering core body temperature is therapeutic. Michael Schumacher body was cooled to allow his brain recover after the skiing accident. It preserves many organs from degeneration. Abeg science like the bible should always be viewed in context. The body and brain can't be wrong all the time. If they demand cooling better cool them down or else.... |

agabusta: Beautiful explanation. This is what I like about nairaland before political jobbers took over. Intelligent responses to questions. I was among the folks canvassing for scrapping of one of the arms.
But with this your superb explanation, I have changed my mind. I think it is better we retain both. I like the explanation you used about Bayelsa and Kano. Bayelsa has lesser population than Kano but the same number of Senators. But the house of rep corrects this anomaly with Kano having more Reps than Bayelsa. Also Bayelsa has already being compensated for this by having an equal number of senators with Kano. This is beautiful. My friend it is not pretty. A good paint job on a defective structure is useless. It will all come down one day. What you see in the House is the crucible of corruption. The melting pot of compromises. The Lower House is founded on the fraud called census (Boko Haram insurgency has proven the sheer number of aliens bolstering the north's population), the Upper House is founded on the lie called 'equal number of federating units (when the South-East has fewer states in its zone). My friend can you see how socio-political imbalances and injustice is costing us dearly in cash and kind and how it leads to corruptive compromises to seek rebalances like an adult and kid on opposite sides of a see-saw. Have you ever asked yourself why there is barely any debate there and arguments are always on personal grounds and benefits and why the opposition and ruling party members appear the same in attitude, approach, disposition, morality, etc. No difference. In other countries the greatest divides in ideologies and approach between political parties occur amongst law makers. Worldwide legislature is always fractured, heated. Here it is padi-padi all the time. The system is not working well. It is structurally deficient. The Nigerian state is. It is not beautiful. It is draped in black mourning apparel. |

dein77: Good evening, my able people. I initially wanted to post this thread on RELIGION section, but on a second thought, I considered it will make more sense to post it here. The issues to be discussed cut across FAMILY and RELIGION, hence my confusion over which section it should be posted.
My wife's been having recurrent nightmares. Seriously, she hardly have a smooth night. Its all screams and screams, and incessant dreams of death hovering around us. We have prayed and fasted, but the dreams keep coming. Whenever I'm on night shift, I'm also worried about her safety back home. Its either she dreams of our kids having serious attacks or herself being under attacks. Its really challenging.
A few weeks ago, we visited a pastor, and after some discussions he suggested we should relocate to another apartment/place. I pretended like I didnt hear him. When we got home, my wife brought the issue up again and I told her we werent going anywhere. I told her we should continue praying and believe God to see us through. We've been in our current apartment for a little over 5 years. Now she says shes no longer comfortable with the house and that we must relocate. Honestly, she hardly enjoys the place. Whether or not it got anything to do with what our pastor told us, I couldnt tell.
Today, she brought it up again. She had gone to see her business colleague, and according to her they zoomed off into religious stuff, and the issue of our house and the bad dreams came up. Of course, her pastor friend also suggested we relocate. A little argument came up and i had to leave the house. I'm typing from the office; night duty things.
My stand is this: being a Christian over a decade, plus knowing the fact relocating to a new place may not necessarily stop the attacks, I still believe we should ask some of our pastors to come over to our house and join us in prayer. I believe a Christian shouldnt run from demonic attacks, but should instead fight back and withstand these foes. Its my belief shaa!
I just renewed our rent for the year a few days ago. But my wife is still insisting we relocate. Her health and happiness, needless to say, is very important to the both of us, and I dont want to appear insensitive and selfish. What should I do? What if she is right? Should I stand my ground? What if I'm wrong? Too many thoughts crossing my mind. That will be the third place we will be relocating to within our axis.
Whats the best way to handle this situation? Please, I will appreciate all meaningful suggestions and advice....
Thanks, in advance. Look mister. Get her a job, work that will task her body and mind so badly that she will be asleep before she hits the bed and alarmed when the bell wakes her in the morning. It is only lazy people that dream and lazy plus indolent minds that have nightmares. Even though I'm a light sleeper my alarm is not my friend due to sheer exhaustion. All these so called 'businesses' that involve putting one's leg up all day 'waiting for customers', that give enough time for stray thoughts and idle talk are fertile grounds for corruption. Be advised. Occupation is the key to positive mental growth. |

No, I don't think the French government is involved. French citizens were taken hostage remember. And it is a huge, huge gamble. To prosecute a war against a country of 170million people is just, quite frankly economically suicidal. Even the US cannot take and hold Nigeria by force of arms alone. |

Adminisher: Weapons that he ordered for Shagari government as GOC third armoured division. Most tanks in the NA were ordered by Buhari when he was GOD. Buhari was in power for barely two years anyway so any weapins received by the succeeding IBB regime must have been ordered by him. See ignorance. You don't even know the structure of the army so you just talk rubbish. A GOC cannot order for tanks simple. The army is structured into corps. These are specialised parts that make it a fighting force. The teeth arms are the infantry, the armoured corps, the artillery corps, signals and the engineers. Then the 'supporting corps' medics, S/T, etc. Training, equiping, kitting, is done at corps level. You will not see a medic colonel instructing or training an infantry major. Major weapons and ammunition depots are at corps level. If you want to know where the bulk of the tank or artillery shells are kept, it is there. The bulk of army formations around the country are corps units and you know them. They are administrative units. Like in a hospital you have units. Perhaps surgery, haematology, dentistry, imaging, pharmacy, etc. These units have heads that report directly to the CMD. In the army the Corps Directors have a direct route to the COAS. Then you have the operational structure of the army which is divided into 5 divisions now (I think)。It is these divisions that go to war. The corps come together in times of conflict under this structure to prosecute operations because each corps cannot stand alone effectively. Once again, like in a hospital when a case comes in the Emrgency unit puts a call out to the 'team of specialists' to handle the case. It is not the resposibility of emergency to order for scanners or dental tools but the dental department's. Similarly it is not the job of the GOC to order tanks or cotton wool and bandages but to place a demand for the use of tanks and the need for updated medics on the armoured divisions at his disposal. His job is to prosecute war. |

When a whole Battalion flees its base because they dont have the right weapons to confront the well-armed BH terrorists, how do you not expect the armoury of the terrorists to increase?
Now that you took back just one of the Toys they stole from you.... it is NOISE worthy?
Question is: You mean if Jonathan was not allowed this "Election Extension", he would not release ADEQUATE weapons to prosecute Boko Haram? What is the role of Jonathan's Govt in prolonging this terrorist activities... in the last two years .... for selfish "election manipulation" reasons (a.k.a GBAGBO Style)?
She-Cow should have been wiped out a long time ago ...and our kidnapped children recovered.... if not for the deliberate dilly-dallying of those who want to use it as an excuse to postpone elections and try to prolong their election doomsday clearout.
A thousand "Saamu" Jonathan cannot escape the inevitable on March 28.
Lastpage! And see how you twist yourself. A Battalion flees (which one, when) because it hasn't the weaponry to fight. Then the insurgents capture the 'sopisticated - as many will call them' to retool themselves. What hogwash. In broad terms if the army has none what are the insurgents capturing. And I tell you here and now. It is extremely difficult and highly unlikely for an operational armoured corps tank to be taken whole without incident. If you understand the way armoured forces operate you will understand. To further think that one can be captured from a base and driven off is just wishful thinking no matter how much you lovethe insurgents and hate the army. Sorry it won't happen. |

The people need education, especially the girl child: when you educate a boy, you educate an individual; but when you educate a girl, you educate the society. And this brings me to the main issue: If the Chibok girls and other kidnapped girls are being radicalised and used as suicide bombers, then terrorism in Nigeria isn't going anywhere soon. I'm very angry with the Nigerian government for acting so slow. This is definitely not a forward-thinking government if they failed to recognize the dangers of girls being brainwashed earlier. Now these girls will likely teach radical Islam to their children unless something is done really fast. Nigeria is in more trouble than most people realize.
