Government has privatised. They have become umpires. Why don jerseys again. All they need to do is to identify key, competent private players and incentify them. Government has no business in business and until electricity production is considered a business by all it cannot succeed. |
Omooba77:You're not even reading what I'm writing at all. |
When I read a lot of posts here I shudder at the thought of what lies ahead but somewhat hopeful that it cannot get worse than this. People still cannot understand that the quality of a country isin the quality of its peoples. This is what right minded people look out for. You will think social media is a platform for the expression of the 'enlightened'. So when its 'bad' here you can expect worse, far worse from the peons, the peasants, the mass masses, the real people who decide. I repeat again. Leadership is an aggregate. It is dividing 170 million 170 million times. You simply cannot expect individual 'ideals' to prevail. The role of the average Nigeria is critical in the success or otherwise of any leader. That is why when the numbers increase performance appears to fall away. It will always be easier to govern a state that it will be a nation. When things are over simplified and expectations are sky high at coming change what we are saying is that we too are ready to change our ways as Nigerians. That is what will make leadership succeed. I am not seeing this yet. What I am seeing is, this candidate will do this, that candidate will do that. What are 'we' the people going to do. You will say vote and I will say we have voted before. That is not enough. If we want to play chicks in a nest waiting for mama eagle to bring food then we are in a problem. Like I often say, it is not enough for a young girl to adorn nice clothes and stand by the road side to snag a husband. It is not enough. She must develop wholistically and begin to practice the things she wants to see in marraige. It is similar to the electoral process and governance. Let us begin to see in the average Nigerian what he expects to see in government. From all these posts I must admit the situation is just....depressing. Not one single issue based discourse. |
zheroes:Very interesting piece. And I will say to you with all conviction that prior to 2003 where were you in the scheme of things in Nigeria, what were your views about good governance, about 'cluelessness', about sentiments. What were your views about power in Nigeria. Where did the average Niger-Deltan stand before 1999. Did it not take gross injustice to awaken interest in power. Did it not take murder of its citizens right at their door steps by the owners of Nigeria ala 'the status quo' to trigger things. Does the south-south, the niger-delta have a political class, does it have a power base, does it have any experience whatsoever in governance at high levels, is it a natural breeding ground for political juggernauts....answer. So where will it get these and from where do you think such competencies will be found. This is the problem Nigeria has and I have continued to emphasise it. Nigeria has serious structural imbalances, serious power shortages in many areas that make the engine of development impossible to work properly. It is in the attempt to supply power to the south-south that we have all seen that the equipment there is old, faulty, dangerous and cannot serve purpose. So what do we do. We shut it down and upgrade, renovate, repair. That is why I often say the GEJ administration remains the best thing to happen to Nigeria so far and the south-south and indeed Nigeria should be grateful for this expose'. The south-south has seen that power in the centre is grossly overrated and so self determination is the only viable way out and Nigeria has seen that its so called V6 engine is really a ruse because in truth not more than 2 or 3 cylinders are really working. This engine called Nigeria is misfiring. You my friend mr niger-delta have just woken up. Its a good day. |
PAnaceA7:Hmmm. I wonder if there is some affinity with the he-goats you see nibbling, trampling and pissing all over the lot as it dries on the sun baked country side roads giving us the distinctive 'akuya flavouring'. |
mekaboy:Sir, do you know that the elephant can live as long if not longer than man. Do you know what shortens its lifespan. Its teeth. Like man's they do not regenerate and once they get worn down by chomping on stone filled vegetation for decades the elephant simply starves to death. Ofada rice had better raise its game. |
osile2012:Nigerians are not generally given to excellence that's why. It doesn't have good competitive quality. |
I will still blame parents. They still will not inculcate sound values in their children. There are too many grey zones where predators roam but these are hardly discussed or willfully ignored. I am sure the parents of the girl will say. Its fine to 'go out' but don't 'get laid'. What is the meaning of that. So she goes about, struts like a peacock, fires off mixed signals and hopes for safety while sifting for 'some benefits'. What has placed that young girl in proximity to such a monster. No one will ever know that. For me it is either all or none. You either place yourself in harm's way and be a hardened girl yourself or just find other paths in life. It is so simple. Many, many, many are caught in between and the naive are often victims. |
kilokeys:And what is the size of the American economy compared to ours to make sense of your reply. If that is what the proprietor can afford that is it. |
Thread of the personal assistants on personal attacks and they are all here in their full glory. I hail oh. I hope the austerity regime will reduce your numbers this new year so that proper politics and issue based discourse prevails. |
kaka22:Of course he may be the agent of change but one will vote for Buhari not because of Buhari but because of what might be achieved. The latter doesn't depend on him alone. Its still the same thing. The problems we have in Nigeria are deep rooted, fundamental. They go way past an individual or regime in terms of time and capacity. That famous line in one of Fela's songs refering to one of the duo saying '....Nigerians are useless, Nigerians are senseless, Nigerians are indisciplined....' expresses their frustrations then as it is today. It was not the ruling class, or Shagari-era politicians they were talking about but Nigerians. The biggest challenge leadership faces anyday, anytime in actualising its programs is the brick wall called the Nigerian. If Buhari thinks he can tackle us alone in 2015 with much less powers then someone must be high on controlled substances. It won't happen. He should just go ahead and rule. Nigerians will fix Nigeria when they and they alone are ready. |
kaka22:So if he 'tackled' corruption why is there corruption today thirty years later. That is the spine of the article. That things were personalised, superficial and not engrained and institutionalised. The article shows the inadequacies, the limitations of individuals or 'regimes'. And I repeat yet again, the success of democratic leadership lies also in the quality of followership and so far no grouping has come out to admit let alone openly declare that it will renounce corruption so expect the regime to battle on for its four years term chasing up the corrupt and accomplishing little else. (as it happened in 1983-4). Very little else was done. The question is and remains. Are Nigerians tired of corruption. |
See Ramirez head like anvil. |
Aha, aha, english commentators have started inflating egos. Just one match and the Kane boy is being compared to the greats of the game. Tomorrow gullible club managers will be asked to bring out one gazzilion dollars to buy him. |
Don't you just love the premiership. Best in the world by far. |
Very well said. Optimism is good but realism is better. Nigeria is the way it is because of Nigerians and like he said they have not been taken along in that manifesto. Ultimately they will decide whether Nigeria changes not necessarily Buhari. If they have suffered enough to engage one another and leadership to change Nigeria, fine but my take is that Buhari will have to drag Nigerians kicking and screaming to the promised land....and knowing us....we will not go. |
The more I look at Koeman the more I feel Arsenal directors should talk to him before returning to London. |
mukina2:Hi dear, happy new year. |
Mediocre players. I just pity Sanchez, running around everywhere like his team mates care to win anything. Gibbs as a wing back cannot even put a descent ball in the box. Lubbish. |
Okay I will waste more bandwidth. What did I say seven years ago. ? |
Any comment about Arsenal is just a waste of bandwidth. Its all in the archives dating some good 7 years now. Same ol, same ol. |
I wish you will take the new job so that you can set the timer to your aspirations or career decay. The fact that you donot have a course in life to chart means its time for a memory reboot which MTN will offer. I believe it is the duty of the youth in Nigeria to embrace creativity and enterprise. There is just too much lacking in this country and too many potential players on the bench blaming government and one another. Remember, they are all employed team members. Your choice should be towards your ultimate goal. Liberty, creativity and enterprise. Period. |
OtunbaJega:This is just...a shameful, unnecessary knee jerk reaction to the equally useless war about qualifications. You fellows have absolutely nothing to do. Please just enlighten the electorate on what Buhari will do differently from the top leadership of this present administration rather than shoot yourselves in the foot by beating the drums of his past military life because if he (Buhari) dances to that I don't think you will enjoy this democracy thing. Remember it is the APC not Buhari contesting the election and it is the APC that aspires to win the Presidency. A tiger can be the star attraction in a zoo but if you accentuate its beauty enough to unlock its cage na you sabi. Build institutions not men. Let us focus on deliverables. Elections is 6 weeks away. Please. |
Annstar:I concur but folks must wash their hands with soap thereafter and maintain trimmed nails. |
2tek:It is the structural imbalances of Nigeria and the north wants more. Now tell me why other regions should agree to this. One reason. |
raumdeuter:So the south-west wants to take their power back. Really. First it was the Langtang Mafia, then the Hausa-Fulani born-to-rule, now its the Yoruba....whatever. Let's create a new expression here. |
Demdem:Hmmm. Pie in the sky. 90% of your income comes from an area you want to further militarize. I just laugh. |
Macelliot:I can understand where you are coming from and know where you are going but this is just absurd and you've got to let it go. The fellow died a patriot. It has happened. It is bound to continue. In finding our feet sacrifices will be made and at every point we will be confronted with a choice of whether to turn back or move forwards. For the death of the young man (and others) not to be in vain let us move on to a stable, multi-party democracy your late friend envisioned and paid the ultimate price. Look not to the past and present but onto the future. The CPC as a party is gone. The Buharis and Goodlucks of the now time will go but the institutions we all struggle to establish hopefully will remain forever. |
MuguliciousMUGU:Inciteful, hate filled message mister. You guys had better emerge from this political mud bath and attain tolerance or better still change nationality if you cannot stand your fellow Nigerian. Buhari has every right to contest. Leadership is not proportional to academics nor even literacy for that matter. He may not be to everyone's taste but as a strong force in politics in this dispensation Buhari has played his part in our democratic development and he will be credited for shaping and elevating the quality of the polity win or lose. A one party state or continuous, unbroken rule can never guarantee development and we should all be bold to say this even if it goes against our personal interests. |
gratiaeo:With 1 goat and 10 bags of rice. That one cannot even build culvert from the stomach to the small intestine. Lubbish. |
blemon44:Can't you read. She was promised gifts from the wise man this yuletide. Her star is really shinning. |
