This is a very reprehensible comment made by El-Rufai. Just as reprehensible as the comment made by the PDP chairman, Secondus at a recent campaign, to the effect that the PDP would go to "War" if the elections are rigged by APC.
Politicians need to be a lot more circumspect in their public comments going into the elections to avoid a repeat of the 2011 post-election crisis.
If anyone feels hard done by the results, let them explore the legal option to seek redress rather than inciting violence that will end up consuming lives and property.
Any politician that wants to perpetrate violence must be forced to put themselves and their families in the forefront of the lynch mob.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has weighed in on the recent suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Nkanu Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dogara, in a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, raised alarm that Nigeria's democracy was 'on fire'. The Statement read;
"With the unconstitutional suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Muhammadu Buhari, the world has been served with notice that Nigeria is now a full-blown dictatorship. This did not come as a rude shock except to those that have been blind to the gradual but progressive erosion of democratic values in the polity as President Buhari’s Government has never hidden its disdain for the rule of law."
"We have watched in disbelief as the Government recklessly deploys institutional prerogatives; routinely flouts the rule of law; subverts and assaults democratic Institutions; refuses to accept opponents as legitimate; suppresses citizens civil liberties(especially those of opponents) and trample underfoot the media. In short, the Government’s tyrannical and authoritarian credentials are loathsomely legendary."
"No provision in Sections 157 and 292 of the 1999 Constitution as amended supports the President in purporting to suspend the CJN or swearing in an acting CJN. The whole idea of a limited government is that the President’s powers is limited by law and it is ultra vires his powers to act in the absence of explicit legislative authorization. That is representative democracy at its best which our 1999 Constitution as amended guarantees."
"It is instructive to note that our Constitution does not contemplate or presupposes a situation whereby the Judiciary will have a suspended CJN and an acting CJN at the same time. Therefore, it is right to posit, as some have done that the President now has his own Chief Judge to do his bidding while Nigeria has a sitting CJN until he is removed in line with the provisions of the Constitution."
"The awfully crude annexation of the judiciary by the President in violation of his oath of office and the Constitution cannot be for any other reason except, as alleged by so many, to prepare the judiciary ahead of time for the purpose of conferring some aura of legitimacy to the contraption that the 2019 general elections may after all become."
"I therefore call on the President to remember that he has no better legacy to bequeath other than a good name: which cannot be achieved without honour, character and integrity. Honour and integrity demand that he upholds his oath of office by reversing this assault on our Constitution and following the manifestly clear and unambiguous constitutional procedure for the removal of the CJN if he must be removed. Anything short of this demeans all of us."
"To our citizens, we must now head the warning of the Irish lawyer cum orator, John Philpot Curran who said, “the condition upon which God had given liberty to man is eternal vigilance: which condition if he breaks, servitude is at once the consequences of his crime, and the punishment of his guilt”. Despotism can only prosper in Nigeria if good men and women do nothing."
"I also call on all lovers of freedom and democracy all over the world to rise to the occasion and demand of this Government and the President to halt the march to anarchy and bedlam: which dictatorship promotes. The world has an experience in this and it must not allow this unmitigated disaster on Nigeria before it acts to restore sanity."
"As of today, Nigeria is now Germany in the wake of the 1933 Reichstag fire. Our democracy is on fire; ignited by the very people who swore to protect and defend it. That this fire must not convert the Chancellor to Fuhrer as it happened in Germany in 1933 depends on our collective response and that of the international community. We must not bow our knees to dictatorship: not now, not ever again."
sgd: “The Embassy of the United States is deeply concerned by the impact of the executive branch’s decision to suspend and replace the Chief Justice and head of the judicial branch without the support of the legislative branch on the eve of national and state elections.
We note widespread Nigerian criticism that this decision is unconstitutional and that it undermines the independence of the judicial branch. That undercuts the stated determination of government, candidates, and political party leaders to ensure that the elections proceed in a way that is free, fair, transparent, and peaceful – leading to a credible result.
We urge that the issues raised by this decision be resolved swiftly and peacefully in accordance with due process, full respect for the rule of law, and the spirit of the Constitution of Nigeria. Such action is needed urgently now to ensure that this decision does not cast a pall over the electoral process.”
I said it at another form that by refusing to heed the summons of the CCT, the chief judge was inadvertently playing into the hands of the politicians. He allowed what could have been handled and dispensed of within the legal space to become a political matter.
Rather than obey the summons of a court, the CJN chose to disregard the summons on the instruction of Wike and his fellow south South governors. Now that it has become a political issue, the courts have become pay as you go. Exparte motions upon exparte motions flying all over the place.
What is the worse that would have happened if he had gone to the CCT? He may have had to quit office. But he would do so with honor and the judiciary will keep it's honor and reputation.
Now with his pig headed action, the CJN has set in motion a series of wrong reactions that could lead to a constitutional crises that will augur well for no one in the end.
The beauty of democracy is that it is all about numbers.
If the people of Senator Melaye's constituency want to be represented by someone bearing around the burden of a court case, so be it.
The system even makes provision for a process of recall, if at any point they become disatisfied with the performance of the senator. That one na their headache.
Buhari might be sick. But Obasanjo wants to play God. He thinks he is the only one that knosws what's good for Nigeria.
He fancies himself to be some sort of "Mandela of Nigeria" and envies what the latter achieved in his lifetime.
He has meddled in every government since Shagari yet he had his own stint of 8 years filled with imperfections. Yet,no one meddled or wrote any Epistles.
Well, this I the last one he will do. He has set himself up for disgrace and he will be disgraced thoroughly....and it doesn't matter who wins.
If Buhari wins, he would have done so without the backing of Obasanjo and the cabal of retired generals. The Buhari we all know will avenge their betrayals. The Generals and their supposed influence will be demystefied.
If Atiku wins, he will come after Obasanjo to pay him back for all of the pains of previous years. Atiku might look gentle but he is a ruthless business man. He knows that as long as Obasanjo casts a shadow over his government, he will never be his own man so he will do all he can to clip his wings.
Obasanjo's chickens are coming home to roost. These elections will be an interesting one.
OBJ ruled Naija for 8 years and even attempted to subvert the constitution to go himself a third term in office.
OBJ's tenure was characterised by the intimidation of both members of his party and the opposition alike. He rendered his own VP useless and got him blacklisted across the world.
OBJ used the army to obliterate 2 communities from the map till this day and national elections in his government were one of the most rigged anywhere in the world.
This same bloody hypocrite called OBJ now has the guts to stand on his shaky moral platform and pontificate about who is efficient, who is using the military anyhow and who is planning to rig elections?
OBJ is suffering from what is called a god-complex and I pray he gets his comeuppance soon.

The man has achieved his aim...he has got everyone talking about Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The man's campaign strategy will be a case study in universities very soon. How he turned a hitherto unknown name to a household name in just about 4 months.
ochejoseph: Following the release of a leak audio yesterday where Rotimi Amachi was heard telling someone that the president does not listen to anybody and does not even read, Former Presidential aide and a strong critic of the Buhari administration who released the now viral audio has advised the minister of transport and agents ofbthe government not to waste their time denying anything as they are in possession of many other secret recordings of the minister.
Amaechi who is known to throw tantrums at short notice is the current Director General of the Buhari campaign council . Historically Amechi has never hidden his disdain for the villa cabal especially after the media reported news that they were the brain behind the cancellation of some of the major projects including a security contract fronted by Amaechi but cancelled by Buhari.
Reno who took to his facebook page , where he wrote " We have more of the secretly recorded audios of Amaechi saying terrible things about Buhari’s govt. I hear Amaechi wants to lie that he was referring to GEJ. Let him do that and I will release part 2 which will clearly show he referred to Buhari.
On his Twitter handle , Reno went further to state that "If Nigerians hear the audio of Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s conversation, they may weep. The man has no iota of respect for Buhari. In fact the worshipped former President Obasanjo in the tape and said he is the only worthy Nigerian leader. They know the truth, but hide it!
These shocking revelation has already thrown the APC campaign council into confusion with many openly calling for Amaechis immidiate Sack both as Minister and DG of the campaign council.
Esseite: The Peoples Redemption Party member representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has challenged the management of the communications giant, Etisalat, and Keystone bank to publish the list of their shareholders without further delay.
The senator through his verified Twitter handle on Friday said such action by the management of the two organisations would put a stop to the controversies surrounding their ownership.
The Atiku Campaign Organisation had through one of their spokespersons, Buba Galadima, alleged on Wednesday that families, associates, and cronies of President Muhammadu Buhari, were the largest shareholders in the two firms.
But Sani said the immediate publication of the firms’ owners, would also save the President, whose integrity was already being called to question, from ridicule.
Sani tweeted, “In view of the moral dust raised by the questions on the shares of the two firms now on the scale of integrity, Etisalat & Keystone should publish the full names of their shareholders, to exhale the billows of smoke and clear the dark clouds hanging over the landscape of our nation.”
In another tweet, the senator urged any Nigerian with concrete evidence of corruption against the family of President Muhammadu Buhari to send such to the relevant anti-corruption agencies in the country for necessary investigations.
He also challenged those accusing the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, to write a petition to the anti-graft agencies instead of making a noise about it in the media.
He said, “If you have any concrete case of corruption against the ex-VP, forward it to the relevant anti-corruption agency; If you have any concrete case of corruption against the family of Mr. President, forward it to the relevant anti-corruption agency. Else, it’s all about ghosts and shadows.”
luluosas: Oh! So, you are experiencing such a Lagos, the same thing I am experiencing in Benin City? Wow, all these Discos should be brought back by the government abeg
Naaah. The guy is out. Media agencies don't play like that.
Do you know how much the careless fellow could have cost them if Guinness decides to take that account from them?
I used to work in that industry and I know the sheer amount of work that goes into bagging one account, not to talk of a big one like Guinness. If one silly handler puts that in jeopardy, they won't blink twice before they kick him outta the door.
Awol1: Of course Enenche is Christian. Why won't he go for him?
Please cut out all those religious sentiments!
GOD DID NOT SEND PASTOR ENENCHE TO BE TELLING TALES AND WHIPPING UP RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS IN AN ALREADY TENSE STATE.
Pastor Enenche should know better.
Do you know how far that story about the Agom Adara's unfortunate kidnap and murder and claiming it was El-Rufai that invited him to government house and then had him ambushed and killed went? Do you know what damage it could have caused if not that the Governor proactively stepped in to paint the true picture and clear things up with the family? Like the governor said, 22 people had already lost their lives before the damage was curtailed.
Please lose me with all that crap. Let religious leaders stand up and defend themselves when they are found to have breached the law and stop hiding behind these vacuous claims of persecution. If all religious leaders preach incendiary messages like Pastor Enenche and his ilk, will they have a relatively peaceful country in which to build their "record-breaking" cathedrals?
You want to show you are fiery and fearless in speaking "truth" to power? Go to China, Saudi Arabia, etc. How many of them have you heard going to those places to hold crusades and win souls for God? Are the millions of non-Christians in those countries not worth saving?
80% of the conflicts and crises we have in this country stem from religion. This is because nowadays, we have followers with milk for brains. Followers who believe anything they are told without bothering to run a fact check. Most of the charlatans we have spewing hate from the pulpit in the name of God know this and abuse the privileges they have been given. They set fire to the country with their foul heresies.
We like comparing ourselves to Rwanda a lot. Well, why don't you google Rwanda and see what their government has and is still doing to religion...especially to churches, in a country that is predominantly Christian.
I see this kind of fate befalling the church in Nigeria soon, if we keep allowing these interlopers abuse the relative freedom of worship we enjoy here in Nigeria. CAN needs to stop paying useless trips to Aso Rock, endorsing politicians and crying wolf over some phantom Islamisation agenda THAT CAN NEVER HAPPEN IN A COUNTRY LIKE NIGERIA!!!
CAN needs to focus on regulating the activities of its members; calling them to order where they derail, and meting out sanctions where necessary. Religious institutions like the Catholic Church have remained relevant for centuries because of its very solid internal regulation framework.
If CAN fails to self regulate, very soon Nigeria will have a leader who will take that privilege away...and then Christians will know the true definition of persecution.
seighapaul: You're so correct but the effect isn't on just the president and those who spread this news...it'll hunt us all one day when we travel out of this country.
Exactly!
That is why we must always be careful about washing our dirty linen publicly.
If comedians don't troll politicians, who will they troll?
There are shows on American TV built almost 100% on trolling Donald Trump so PMB is fair game.
Besides, PMB didn't cause this. It is the mumu Nigerians spreading the insane tale about there being a clone in Aso Rock that caused it. The comedians aren't really mocking PMB, they are mocking those Nigerians that believe the stupid idea.
The President is being trolled on international TV because we first dragged him on Naija social and mainstream media. We are being laughed at for our ignorance.
Prior to the 2015 elections, the PDP did all they could to demonise Buhari calling him a Fulani jihadist and other such names.
He wins the elections and the better part of his administration, he is accused of sponsoring Fulani Herdsman to further his Islamic agenda. They did all they could to fuel the media hype by attributing every communal clash anywhere within the country to "Fulani" herdsmen".
Now this same PDP has a Muslim Fulani candidate and suddenly, the "Fulani Herdsmen" scourge has been lifted. The attacks virtually stopped overnight and where they happen, the media now attributes the attacks to "herdsmen"...the "Fulani" description has been lost. Afterall, who wants a Presidential candidate bogged down with that unwanted narrative.
Now the argument is now who is more Fulani between Buhari and Atiku and the way to know this is that one speaks Fulani (whatever that is) and the other doesn't?
It is now apparent that Atiku has a team of half-wits and utter buffoons running his campaign.
HigherEd: Call it Satire or whatever you like, my first impression, reading Olatunji Oludare's piece was not of laughter or comedy. What i read was a supposed "well laid, investigative" reportage. Till now i do not see the sattire or sarcasm in that post and i would easily be misled by that article myself.
The only dissonance that gave the post out for me was the supposedly unwarranted tirade against Nnamdi Kanu. But without that i could easily have attempted to 'dig' further.
I understand now that the majority of folks immediately termed the article sattire based on the antecedents of the writer. However, we need to ask the impact of a credible news outlet like The Nation irresponsibly mixing sattire and real journalism together.
Knowing fully well that the general public is fully aware that the Nation Newspaper is a credible journalistic outlet then it should be imperative to label or designate sattirical, sarcastic publications under the comedy section of the newspaper - whether online or offline.
The fact here is this, a leading religious influencer in Bishop Oyedepo was misled by the carelessness of The Nation newspaper and the clarity he sought for from the presidency has professed doubt that may have cascaded into the 5,000 church network of the Winners Chapel ministeries in Nigeria. Citizens and church members in Ogbomoso, Umunede, Ede and other rural hinterlands without access to Twitter, Nairaland have now heard from their revered pastor that their president may be a Jubril from Sudan.
Do we need this in a nation where distrust for the Federal Government is so rife that citizens would readily believe the worst from them? Worse even when such accusations are peddled by leading religious voices.
I have in numerous times called for sober reflection from Nigeria's media houses and bloggers to ensure news dissemination is done with utmost respect. A news made by Vanguard, Linda Ikeji during the last election which cited Bishop Oyedepo claiming to open the gates of hell is another typical example of how poor journalism continue o divide us and threaten our peaceful existence. Till today, that news report is still being circulated and reechoed in social media circles despite the recall made by the various news outlet. We thank God there was no violence in reaction to that particular fake news, but make no mistake that particular fake news could have put the lives of many Christians in jeopardy.
To the clergy, i humbly plead that our pastors, priests, bishops should cease from meddling in political issues. Let us imbibe the character of Pastor Adeboye who has been a father to all and a bridge builder who refuses to make political statements. Let the Nigerian people make their decisions and live with the consequences! You are Nigerians and entitled to your opinions on the political situation of the Country but in respect of Christ and the safety of Christians all over Nigeria please speak your opinions in the comfort of your rooms and not on the pulpit to avoid needless controversies.
How can a preacher of Bishop Oyedepo's exposure, education, and standing in global society believe that a family from Sudan is in Nigeria, threatening the powers that be and requesting for 50% of Nigeria's wealth
How can the leader of a globally recognized church believe that the President of a country like Nigeria died and was buried secretly abroad, then was replaced by a foreigner that is such a look-alike that even his wife and family would not know
How can Bishop Oyedepo claim he does not know that politicians who can conceive, plan and execute such an intricate plot would not be so careless as to leave any loose strings that would give the plot away
Let us even say this insane plot is even true and indeed we have an impostor in Aso Rock. Does Bishop want to say he doesn't understand the virtue of circumspection given that he is a man of influence whose words are "ye and amen" for teeming members of his congregation across the globe
Please let us call it what it is! Bishop has scarcely hidden his disdain for the person of President Buhari. I originally thought it was a general contempt for Muslims of the Fulani tribe given his numerous speeches where he railed against and even laid curses and spoke against them. But Bishop's recent public hobnobbing with another Fulani man in the person of Alhaji Atiku has made me realize that it isn't hatred for the Hausa/Fulani in general, but disdain for one Fulani in particular...Muhammadu Buhari!
Bishop's recent sermon was fueled by that same disdain and in his blind hate for the President, he missed all of the obvious cues that clearly showed the write-up was a satiric piece and thus embarrassed the body of Christ yet again.
I share your opinion that partisan politics should be kept away from the altar of God. The place of the priest is to lead the people in prayer for the peace of the nation and the wisdom of God upon the leaders of the land. The place of the church is to heal the schisms in the land and not exarcerbate them.
Owambeuk: Bishop Oyedepo today at his church suggested that President Buhari might have died a while ago and the person that we all assume to be the president might be an impersonator reading an article from the Nation Newspaper dated 27th November 2018, it was revealed that President Buhar might have died in London and a body double by the name Jubrin from Sudan who is the the look alike of President Buhari is the one occupying the sit of power.
The Bishop has therefore mandated the President of Nigeria to address the nation to disputes or refute this weighty allegations.
God needs to deliver Nigeria from several sets of slavemasters.
God needs to firstly deliver us from politicians and their lackeys that have sworn that this great country will not make progress because of their selfish reasons.
Secondly, and even more importantly, God needs to deliver us from religious slavemasters who continue to spread fear and divisiveness across the land to the detriment of unity.
May God deliver us from the clutches of these dangerous religious leaders who stand on the altar of God and daily terrorize their followers with stories and tales to stir up their hate rather than lead them along the paths that God would have them go in 2nd Timothy 2 vs 1 - 4
God bless the leadership of this great nation and grant them the wisdom to lead us right. God bless the people of this great land and cause us to find love for one another, without which we can NEVER move forward. God bless Nigeria!
Atiku Abubakar, former Vice- President and presidential flgabearer of the Peoples Democratic has told the presidency and the Federal Government to leave him alone and focus their attention on addressing the concerns over the identity of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Atiku who spoke through Segun Sowunmi, spokesman of his campaign organisation said the nations of the world are at liberty to give or refuse visas to anyone they deem fit and do not need the federal government’s opinion on the issue.
