The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has weighed in on the recent suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Nkanu Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dogara, in a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, raised alarm that Nigeria's democracy was 'on fire'. The Statement read;

"With the unconstitutional suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Muhammadu Buhari, the world has been served with notice that Nigeria is now a full-blown dictatorship. This did not come as a rude shock except to those that have been blind to the gradual but progressive erosion of democratic values in the polity as President Buhari’s Government has never hidden its disdain for the rule of law."

"We have watched in disbelief as the Government recklessly deploys institutional prerogatives; routinely flouts the rule of law; subverts and assaults democratic Institutions; refuses to accept opponents as legitimate; suppresses citizens civil liberties(especially those of opponents) and trample underfoot the media. In short, the Government’s tyrannical and authoritarian credentials are loathsomely legendary."

"No provision in Sections 157 and 292 of the 1999 Constitution as amended supports the President in purporting to suspend the CJN or swearing in an acting CJN. The whole idea of a limited government is that the President’s powers is limited by law and it is ultra vires his powers to act in the absence of explicit legislative authorization. That is representative democracy at its best which our 1999 Constitution as amended guarantees."

"It is instructive to note that our Constitution does not contemplate or presupposes a situation whereby the Judiciary will have a suspended CJN and an acting CJN at the same time. Following the release of a leak audio yesterday where Rotimi Amachi was heard telling someone that the president does not listen to anybody and does not even read, Former Presidential aide and a strong critic of the Buhari administration who released the now viral audio has advised the minister of transport and agents ofbthe government not to waste their time denying anything as they are in possession of many other secret recordings of the minister.

Amaechi who is known to throw tantrums at short notice is the current Director General of the Buhari campaign council . Historically Amechi has never hidden his disdain for the villa cabal especially after the media reported news that they were the brain behind the cancellation of some of the major projects including a security contract fronted by Amaechi but cancelled by Buhari.

Reno who took to his facebook page , where he wrote " We have more of the secretly recorded audios of Amaechi saying terrible things about Buhari’s govt. I hear Amaechi wants to lie that he was referring to GEJ. Let him do that and I will release part 2 which will clearly show he referred to Buhari.


On his Twitter handle , Reno went further to state that "If Nigerians hear the audio of Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s conversation, they may weep. The man has no iota of respect for Buhari. In fact the worshipped former President Obasanjo in the tape and said he is the only worthy Nigerian leader. They know the truth, but hide it!

These shocking revelation has already thrown the APC campaign council into confusion with many openly calling for Amaechis immidiate Sack both as Minister and DG of the campaign council.

The Peoples Redemption Party member representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has challenged the management of the communications giant, Etisalat, and Keystone bank to publish the list of their shareholders without further delay.

The senator through his verified Twitter handle on Friday said such action by the management of the two organisations would put a stop to the controversies surrounding their ownership.


The Atiku Campaign Organisation had through one of their spokespersons, Buba Galadima, alleged on Wednesday that families, associates, and cronies of President Muhammadu Buhari, were the largest shareholders in the two firms.

But Sani said the immediate publication of the firms’ owners, would also save the President, whose integrity was already being called to question, from ridicule.

Sani tweeted, “In view of the moral dust raised by the questions on the shares of the two firms now on the scale of integrity, Etisalat & Keystone should publish the full names of their shareholders, to exhale the billows of smoke and clear the dark clouds hanging over the landscape of our nation.”


In another tweet, the senator urged any Nigerian with concrete evidence of corruption against the family of President Muhammadu Buhari to send such to the relevant anti-corruption agencies in the country for necessary investigations.

He also challenged those accusing the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, to write a petition to the anti-graft agencies instead of making a noise about it in the media.

He said, “If you have any concrete case of corruption against the ex-VP, forward it to the relevant anti-corruption agency; If you have any concrete case of corruption against the family of Mr. President, forward it to the relevant anti-corruption agency. Else, it’s all about ghosts and shadows.”

You're so correct but the effect isn't on just the president and those who spread this news...it'll hunt us all one day when we travel out of this country.

Call it Satire or whatever you like, my first impression, reading Olatunji Oludare's piece was not of laughter or comedy. What i read was a supposed "well laid, investigative" reportage. Till now i do not see the sattire or sarcasm in that post and i would easily be misled by that article myself.

The only dissonance that gave the post out for me was the supposedly unwarranted tirade against Nnamdi Kanu. But without that i could easily have attempted to 'dig' further.

I understand now that the majority of folks immediately termed the article sattire based on the antecedents of the writer. However, we need to ask the impact of a credible news outlet like The Nation irresponsibly mixing sattire and real journalism together.

Knowing fully well that the general public is fully aware that the Nation Newspaper is a credible journalistic outlet then it should be imperative to label or designate sattirical, sarcastic publications under the comedy section of the newspaper - whether online or offline.

The fact here is this, a leading religious influencer in Bishop Oyedepo was misled by the carelessness of The Nation newspaper and the clarity he sought for from the presidency has professed doubt that may have cascaded into the 5,000 church network of the Winners Chapel ministeries in Nigeria. Citizens and church members in Ogbomoso, Umunede, Ede and other rural hinterlands without access to Twitter, Nairaland have now heard from their revered pastor that their president may be a Jubril from Sudan.

Do we need this in a nation where distrust for the Federal Government is so rife that citizens would readily believe the worst from them? Worse even when such accusations are peddled by leading religious voices.

I have in numerous times called for sober reflection from Nigeria's media houses and bloggers to ensure news dissemination is done with utmost respect. A news made by Vanguard, Linda Ikeji during the last election which cited Bishop Oyedepo claiming to open the gates of hell is another typical example of how poor journalism continue o divide us and threaten our peaceful existence. Till today, that news report is still being circulated and reechoed in social media circles despite the recall made by the various news outlet. We thank God there was no violence in reaction to that particular fake news, but make no mistake that particular fake news could have put the lives of many Christians in jeopardy.

To the clergy, i humbly plead that our pastors, priests, bishops should cease from meddling in political issues. Let us imbibe the character of Pastor Adeboye who has been a father to all and a bridge builder who refuses to make political statements. Let the Nigerian people make their decisions and live with the consequences! You are Nigerians and entitled to your opinions on the political situation of the Country but in respect of Christ and the safety of Christians
all over Nigeria please speak your opinions in the comfort of your rooms and not on the pulpit to avoid needless controversies.

Bishop Oyedepo today at his church suggested that President Buhari might have died a while ago and the person that we all assume to be the president might be an impersonator reading an article from the Nation Newspaper dated 27th November 2018, it was revealed that President Buhar might have died in London and a body double by the name Jubrin from Sudan who is the the look alike of President Buhari is the one occupying the sit of power.

The Bishop has therefore mandated the President of Nigeria to address the nation to disputes or refute this weighty allegations.

Atiku Abubakar, former Vice- President and presidential flgabearer of the Peoples Democratic has told the presidency and the Federal Government to leave him alone and focus their attention on addressing the concerns over the identity of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Atiku who spoke through Segun Sowunmi, spokesman of his campaign organisation said the nations of the world are at liberty to give or refuse visas to anyone they deem fit and do not need the federal government’s opinion on the issue.

"The countries of the world are free and are at liberty to give visa or not to. We are advising them that should go and concern themselves with the allegations of duplicity and multiple personality sitting in Aso Villa" he said.
