EzegeNG: Some internet users are having mixed feelings about the arrest and freedom of El-Zakzaky after EndSARs convener, Segalink, shared a throwback video of the leader of IMN preaching against killings and violence by Muslim faithfuls, stating what the punishment of any who kills should be.
Segalink on sharing the video, wrote;
However the video which is somewhat trending on social media, shattered Nigerians of what to believe of the sect after their recent activities in the capital territory and other parts of the country.
Watch the video https://zenithnaija.com/segalink-shares-video-of-el-zakzaky-preaching-against-killings-nigerians-react/ It is one thing for the preacher to preach a message. It is another thing for the devotees to adhere to the teachings. Christian preachers preach against killings and other vices too. But do "Christians" commit murder and other vices? You bet they do!!! IMN Shiites have displayed violent tendencies by making themselves a nuisance in Zaria and clashing with virtually every government in power since the military days. I grew up in Zaria so I have experienced their nuisance value first hand. They aren't the only Shiite group in Nigeria so why are they the only ones always clashing with the government? I share the opinion that successive governments, including the current one, have mishandled the IMN threat. But for anyone to come and be preaching that the IMN we have known over the years is a "peaceful" one is utter nonsense. |

OEPHIUS: Xenophobic attack: MTN moves to frustrate Glo •NCC calls for caution
With the increasing volume of protests from Nigerian youths over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, it appears that South African telco MTN may have decided to take out its frustrations on Globacom, Nigeria’s 100% home-grown telco.
Many Globacom subscribers over the weekend expressed difficulties in completing calls to MTN subscribers in the last few days, suggesting that the South African company may have constricted some pipes delivering Globacom calls to its network. Glo Subscribers have to try several times before their calls are connected to MTN subscribers.
The new development comes after protests organised by the National Association of Nigerian Association on MTN premises in Kaduna and Benue on Thursday, last week. A few other protests planned for Anambra State and other locations in the country were aborted by the police.
MTN and Globacom have periodically had disputes over the details of their interconnection obligations to each other. It is not uncommon for telecommunications operators to disagree on interconnection obligations from time to time.
However, in order to ensure optimum experience for telecom consumers, the regulator of the industry, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has always advised caution in the area of disconnecting each other as a way of forcing a resolution of interconnect disputes.
Globacom has maintained a steady growth since inception on the strength of its innovative offerings and affordable plans. It is currently the second largest telecommunications operator, next to MTN, and MTN may be afraid that its recent woes, including imposition of a series of fines on account of SIM card registration infractions, among others, might make it possible for an unhindered Globacom to catch up with it at its current rate of growth. Efforts to get the top officials of both MTN and Glo proved abortive.
https://thepunditng.com/xenophobic-attack-mtn-moves-to-frustrate-glo/ What kind of nonsense conspiracy theory is this one now? Glo can't make calls to MTN and suddenly it is MTN's fault? How about it could be Glo having an issue with their network? So when Airtel can't make calls to MTN, it is MTN trying to get back at India? Do you know that MTN as a business loss good money when you can't terminate calls on their network? Let's stop this senselessness! |

Politics › Re: I Won't Issue Fresh Proclamation For Edo Assembly, Obaseki Tells APC, Reps by Reptyle(m): 10:37am On Jul 23, 2019 |
nairavsdollars: Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Monday insisted that he will not issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of Edo State House of Assembly as demanded by the House of Representatives and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The House of Representatives last week urged the governor to issue a fresh proclamation within one week in line with section 105(3) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) for a proper inauguration of the state’s 7th Assembly.
It also ordered the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to seal off the House of Assembly until a proper inauguration is done. Also, the ruling APC had on Sunday called on the governor to obey the resolution of the House of Representatives and issue fresh proclamation.
However, speaking with Daily Independent on Monday the governor, who spoke through Crusoe Osagie, his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, said his responsibility as regards the inauguration of Edo State House of Assembly has ended with the first proclamation.
He said, “It is unconstitutional for the governor to issue any other proclamation. The constitution says that the governor shall issue a proclamation letter.
“That is where the governor’s responsibility begins and ends in the constitution of the House of Assembly. So, after doing that, the governor cannot issue another proclamation because the constitution does not allow him to do so”. The Edo State chapter of the APC on Monday also said the House of Representatives lacks the power to order the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to seal off the House of Assembly until a proper inauguration is done. In an interview with journalists, Anselm Ojezua, the state chairman of the party, also assured the people of the state that no invasion will take place in the state as Edo is not a colony of the National Assembly but a sovereign part of Nigeria.
While restating his earlier statement that the leadership of the party is comfortable with the development in the House of Assembly as its preferred candidates are the ones occupying leadership positions, Ojezua said the intervention of the National Assembly has worsened the political situation in the state rather than resolve it.
According to him, “The people of Edo should continue to live in peace and not to be worried by the so-called threat of an invasion. There will be no invasion against the people of Edo. Edo State remains a sovereign part of Nigeria. We are what we call federating partners.
“We are not anybody’s houseboys. Edo is not a colony of the National Assembly or of anybody or any entity. So, the people of Edo shouldn’t worry at all. All what is playing out now is just politics and it will be resolved politically”.
While accusing the leadership of the House of Reps of acting out a script, Ojezua said having sent its committee to the state on a fact-finding mission and the state chapter of the party has said it is not against the present leadership of the House led by the Speaker, Frank Okiye, what the National Assembly should have done is to recommend a political solution instead of threatening to take over the House.
“We don’t believe that the National Assembly has a right to intervene in this matter. We know that we are obliged to be polite to them when they come calling for very obvious reasons. So, we’ve made all the facts known. If we had resisted them, the tendency would have been that we have something to hide.
“They have come and they have all the facts. The fact is that the House was inaugurated, that a leadership is in place and they are actually functioning and that the matter is in court. With all that knowledge, what we expected to report and recommend is that in the light of all these facts, they should seek political solutions and watch the judicial pronouncements. They didn’t do that.
“They couldn’t even wait for the National Assembly process to be completed before they went to town. In doing that, they justify the speculation in town arising from audio recording where one of the House of Assembly member was boasting that the matter has been resolved and that the Senate President and the Speaker have already been told what to do and three days later, they did that which the voice said, even though prematurely of their own processes. That to my mind has compounded our problem rather than help to resolve”. https://www.independent.ng/obaseki-to-apc-i-wont-issue-fresh-proclamation-for-edo-assembly/ Issokay! Please whenever the House of Reps gives the order for the Police and DSS to seal off the Edo State House of Assembly, feel free to send officers of the "Edo State Armed Forces" or the "Edo State Police Force" to resist them...since we all want to be mad! Edo is a "sovereign state" my big black butt!!! |

I just hope that the government isn't using propaganda to justify this killings of the shites ? Time and Time again we have seen these shiites hide under the "peaceful protest" toga to unleash mayhem on the public. When they are resisted, they flood the internet with gory pictures playing victim. While I believe that the FG can better handle this impasse, I also think the Shiites can toe the line of peace by been more civil in their protests. Hurling rocks and destroying public property is by no means a Hallmark of a peaceful protest anywhere in the world. It isn't only about not carrying guns. No government anywhere in the world will fold their arms and watch you do that. Peaceful protest is people gathered at one location and holding placards or even sitting down. Where marching must be done, it is done in an orderly fashion usually with police escorts to prevent hoodlums hijacking it. To the FG, I think itis time to explore other options. If I were the President, I would "free" Zakzaky but keep him under very strict security surveillance. The case can continue from his house. Once he is in his house among his people, these needless conflicts will cease. Frankly this daily riots in the nation's capital is becoming an international embarrassment. |

TITOPE: http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/07/busola-dakolo-vs-biodun-fatoyinbo-can.html
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has given the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, two weeks to submit report of its probe on the rape allegation against the Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA, Biodun Fatoyinbo.
PFN had set up a panel to probe the rape allegation against Fatoyinbo by celebrity photographer, Busola Dakolo.
Busola, who is the wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo had few weeks ago disclosed details of how Fatoyinbo allegedly raped her when she was young.
Fatoyinbo, however, denied the allegation, saying he has never forced himself on any woman in his life.
However, President of CAN, Dr Samson Ayokunle, at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday, explained that the body had taken it stands in the alleged rape case against Fatoyinbo.
He stated that the allegation, no matter how bad it might be, remained an allegation until proven otherwise.
According to Ayokunle: ”We have told you without mincing words that we will never support immorality in whatever form, it is alien to the culture of the church, to the teachings of Christ.
”And there is no pulpit that I know in Nigeria that the members are taught immorality, but we will not condemn until we have reasons to condemn, let the panel come out with the result let’s know what the truth is.
”I told you in the press release we issued that we have given the right to Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), because we don’t deal with individual churches, we deal with blocs.
”We have directed PFN, an arm of a bloc, which is also large enough to investigate that matter. I am telling you under God that PFN has set up that panel and that panel had been given two weeks within which to submit its report,
”Not only that, the two individuals involved have been invited by the committee and we are assuring them that nothing will be covered.”
lalasticlala, mynd44, seun Utter nonsense. First off, PFN doesn't report to CAN and thus can't instruct PFN to submit a report in 2 weeks. Secondly, I doubt very much if Fatoyinbo is an active member of PFN so their sanctions most likely will have no bearing on him...except he chooses to submit to them. The sad truth is that both CAN and PFN are basically toothless bulldogs as far as regulating Christendom in Nigeria is concerned. Both organisations were only formed as vehicles for gaining political leverage within the body of the churches. That is why you notice that they enjoy a lot of government patronage during election time. The real regulators that can regulate and take any far-reaching decision regarding indiscipline within the church are the board of trustees or council of elders found in most churches. Most churches, orthodox and pentecostal, have inbuilt regulatory mechanisms that can take action where necessary. CAN and PFN are just blowing hot air as far as this COZA matter is concerned. |

If I didn't ask them similar question to understand why I wouldn't know why they pray that way. The scriptures daddy freeze mentioned talks about physical enemies. People who were once your friends now enemies as a result of quarrel. The ones MFM deal with is the spiritual enemies which is Satan. Makes it even more ridiculous if you ask me. The so-called "spiritual enemies" are exactly that...spirits. Meaning they are immortal and cannot die until the judgment day when they will be cast into the lake of fire along with their master the devil. Even Jesus Christ throughout his ministry never pronounced death on evil spirits. He only cast them out so they stop tormenting their victims. Frankly, I think praying for death upon "spiritual enemies" is a pointless spiritual exercise. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Daddy Freeze To MFM: Praying For Your Enemies To Die Is Anti-christ Doctrine by Reptyle(m): 10:32am On Jul 18, 2019 |
Nwaforj44: Critic, Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze has attacked Mountain of Fire Ministries, MFM, for praying that their enemies should die, saying such prayer is Anti-Christ doctrine.
Daddy Freeze, on his Instagram page on Wednesday said the prayer being prayed by MFM members for their enemies to die was unscriptural.
He wrote: “Dear MFM, kindly consider the following scriptures before your next prayer session. Please if you pray for your member’s enemies to die, STOP IT!
“Instead, teach your congregation to pray for their enemies to prosper and encourage them to lend their enemies money whenever they need it, expecting nothing in return, as Christ instructed us to.
“Anything outside this is an Antichrist doctrine!”
Daddy Freeze quoted several Bible passages to buttress his points, one of which was Luke 6:27,28, which read: “But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.”
He added Luke 6:35, which reads: “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”
https://www.akelicious.net/2019/07/daddy-freeze-to-mfm-praying-for-your.html On this claim, I agree with Freeze. It is a no-brainer really. Hear the words of Jesus Christ: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matt. 5:43-45)
He also said: “But I say to you, do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also” (Matt. 5:38–39).Jesus Christ himself lived this value by forgiving even those who crucified him and mocked him while he was dying on the Cross. It is thus an aberration to pray for the destruction or death of our "enemies" in the name of this same Christ. |

Why hasn't Femi gone to court to sue Reno for this so called slander ?
One thing I know fully well as someone who works in Tech , you cannot erase a server digital footprint and infact all works and refreshes and deletions leave traceable digital footmarks which is why Femi will never ever sue Reno Why is Reno looking for someone to sue him? Isn't that diversionary and detracting from Atiku's case before the tribunal? What is the aim of presenting his "evidence" on social media when he can simply share them with Atiku's legal team to bolster Atiku's chances of overturning the election results at the tribunal? Ok lets agree with Reno that "Femi" is complicit in INEC's attempt to obstruct justice by "deleting a server". How does Reno's evidence on Twitter and his decision to wait to be sued help Atiku's case? Let's also stretch further and pretend that we agree that the chap's decision not to sue Reno means Reno is right. Hurrah!!! I take it that means that Atiku will now be sworn in as President tomorrow right? My brother, the truth is that Reno has nothing that looks like hard evidence anywhere. Politics › Re: Femi Taiwo Responds To Reno Omokri's Allegation About Election Results Server by Reptyle(m): 12:26pm On Jul 16, 2019 |
Reno is been clever by half. That tweet that started with "For the avoidance of doubt...." is a technical play seeking to indemnify himself from possible legal implications of his lie. The INITS guy was clear: I NEVER HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH ANY SERVER USED FOR COLLATING RESULTS BY INEC.What Reno is failing to tell us is exactly what the server he highlighted in his tweet was used for. Was it the server used to collate results by INEC? If yes, then I doubt Reno will be presenting such evidence to fuel a media trial/campaign to sway public opinion. It would be presented in court to buttress Mr. Atiku's case that has been floundering so far. If the so-called server highlighted on the tweets wasn't used by INEC to collate results, (and I suspect this is the case) then what is the point of Reno's "expose" Mr. Atiku's entire case rests on one leg: which is that INEC had a server that recorded him as winner of the 2019 elections. INEC concedes that there was an initial plan to adopt electronic transfer of results which fell through at the end of the day. Bottomline: INEC doesn't have any server anywhere housing any election results. The onus is on Mr. Atiku to prove with concrete facts that INEC has a server...in court and not on social media like Reno and the rest of Mr. Atiku's army of "e-nfluenzas" have been trying to do since the elections were concluded. Mr. Atiku made a sentimental appeal to the judiciary a few weeks ago, that they should feel and reflect the pulse of the nation in their judicial pronouncements. If he thinks this appeal is enough to sway the judges at the tribunal to overturn a presidential election, then he has another think coming. Judicial pronouncements are made on the basis of hard facts...not on the basis of the pulse of the nation. People like Reno thrive in selling hot air and false hope. If Atiku isn't wise, people like Reno will keep riding on his ignorance and desperation to fleece him of his money and end up ridiculing him before the rest of the world. |

Staro: Fresh facts emerged on Saturday that herdsmen have converted the Ondo Government reserve located in the Odigbo Local Government Area into a militia camp.
This indication buttressed the widespread claim that killers of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, 58-year-old daughter of the leader of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, were herdsmen who sneaked out of the reserve to rain bullets on the vehicle she was travelling in. Olakunrin was killed on Friday as the gunmen ambushed vehicles on the highway and abducted some commuters. Her maid reportedly sustained some gunshot injuries during the attack.
Killers of Fasoranti’s daughter have their base in the forest, say villagers
A former senator who represented Ondo South Senatorial District at the Senate, Boluwaji Kunlere, said hoodlums had been operating around where Olakunrin was killed for a long time.
He said this in an interview with one of our correspondents in Lagos on Saturday.
Kunlere said, “I beefed up security in the area when I was in the Senate. I gave 13 Hilux vans to the police divisions in Ondo South Senatorial District and gave motorcycles to the Department of State Services for surveillance.
“I think the police do not have the manpower to ensure adequate security in the area. The expressway (Benin-Ore-Sagamu Expressway) is where the major problem is. The spot (Kajola) where they killed Baba Fasoranti’s daughter falls between Odigbo and Okitipupa Local Government territory.
“The people living close to the area said Fulani herdsmen had taken over that area and there was a time a bishop was abducted and the police rescued him in that area. Herdsmen are all over the forest. We see them between Omotosho and Igbotako. They graze their cows on the road and strike and they run back to the bush.
“They have been operating there for long but the attack on Baba Fasoranti’s daughter was given a wide publicity because of the man’s influence. The downtrodden have been suffering there for long. There was a time that they exchanged gunfire with the police between Omotosho and Ore in the afternoon and they ran away when they discovered that the police would overpower them. “When they attacked Chief Olu Falae’s farm then, the police said it was bush burning because of the fear of Abuja. They want to attribute this killing to armed robbers but the locals are saying the killers are herdsmen.
Some residents of Kajola town in the Odigbo council area who spoke with SUNDAY PUNCH insisted that some Fulani herdsmen terrorising the area were residing in the forest in the area.
One of the residents identified only as Mr Ola said the herdsmen behaved as if they were above the law, adding that it was not the first time they would perpetrate the act in the area.
He said, “They destroy our farms at will. Their cows always eat up many of our farm produce. We have reported several times to the police but no action was taken. We heard gunshots yesterday (Friday) and it is a common thing in the area. We call on the government to provide adequate security to protect our lives and property.’’
Also, a farmer in Kajola village who gave his name only as Mr Aliu, also said bandits had invaded forests surrounding the village.
He said there had been many criminal activities going on in the forest and nobody stopped them.
Aliu said, “The herdsmen that struck on the expressway yesterday (Friday) stay in the forest around the area. That is not their first time and that is how they operate. We have reported to security agents but nothing has been done about it. We are helpless. Government should come to our aid.”
Another resident who spoke on condition of anonymity also reiterated that the reserve in the Odigbo council area had been inhabited for long by herdsmen.
He said though the reserve belonged to the government, community members now use the place for farming.
The resident, who is a prominent member of the National Association of Odigbo Local Government Students, said herdsmen rampage started in the area at the same time it became rampant in the country.
He said, “Villagers are aware of the activities of herdsmen in the area. There was a time herdsmen cut the wrist of a farmer who confronted them when they took their cows for grazing on his farm.
“The DPO of Ore Police Station intervened in the matter and spoke with members of the community. The vigilantes have had to confront them many times. The vigilantes later constructed a shed in the community and take turns to ensure security in the area. This is a development that is known to people in the community.’’
https://punchng.com/herdsmen-convert-ondo-govt-forest-reserve-into-militia-camp/ Every killing in the south is attributed to "herdsmen". Every killing in the north is attributed to "gunmen". Like every other thing in Nigeria, the media has found a cheap way to sell newspapers: just sit in your newsroom in Lagos or Abuja and cook up the sensational headlines. Push Nigeria to the brink and make a profit. The scam will be completed in a few days when the Nigeria Police will capture and parade a few hapless individuals in the name of "herdsmen". A few pictures, more sensational headlines and then we can all go back to sleep until the next unfortunate victims of "herdsmen" in the south or "gunmen" in the north. Then it is just a case of rewind and replay. No further investigation; case closed! No one is calling out the police or the government to thoroughly investigate the case. All you read are personal attacks and parochial nonsense. God bless Nigeria. |

United Nations’ estimates puts Nigeria’s population at over 201 million.
Mr Sani who used to represent Kaduna Central at the National Assembly tweeted on Wednesday that a new census would help update the nation’s figures.

They do so by weighing the facts and arguments presented by the contending parties and rule according to the law of the land. This erroneous position by Mr. Atiku is the reason why his party has flooded the media with all sorts of propaganda in a bid to skew public emotions and manouver the so called "pulse of the nation". Kolewerk! We deserve better than Buhari. But Mr. Atiku isn't an option. By the grace of God, he won't be President. |

He is a general and should know better. In the military, you obey orders when they are given whether you like them or not. If you choose to disobey a direct order because you don't like it, you will.be charged, tried before a court martial and punished. Punishments range from loss of command, demotion, dismissal to even jail and in extreme cases, death sentence. The armed forces isn't a place where you have a personal agenda. Once your agenda doesn't align with the common agenda, jettison it and fall in line. |

kerzhim: Thats the appropriate thing to do actually.... But i am expecting him to charge Busola Dakolo for Defamation. I will assume that he is guilty of the allegation leveled against him if he fails to do that.
Busola as well should also report formally to the authority, not the social media gra gra.
This will be a slap to the Christianity, if nothing is done. But isn't that a bit unfair to put the burden of proof on him to prove his innocence? I thought the maxim is "innocent until proven guilty" and not "guilty until proven innocent". Even the law says that he that alleges must prove and places the onus of proof on the accuser. I agree with you that he probably should go to court as one of the ways to clear his name, but that isnt the only way of clearing his name. In order words, if he chooses other ways of clearing his name, that shouldn't be considered as proof of his guilt. #NOTORAPEEVERYWHERE |

Dude was obviously never a member of the church. He was only a bench warming attender.
Coming to church every Sunday doesn't make you a member of a church. It is bearing responsibility within the church that confirms you a member. That is why it is called "service".
You aren't a member of your family just by blood or because you answer your father's name. You are a member of that family because you carry some responsibility and contribute within the family.
If your father or any other member of your physical family is accused of rape or stealing or any of those other vices, I wonder how many of you will join the mocking crowd in lynching your father publicly. While you might not condone the act, you definitely will not be amongst the mockers. At worst, you may not defend him, but you will also not openly castigate him.
How then is this actor's action ok? How do you lead a protest against a man you probably called Pastor and revered just last week. |

fakuta: But you see the evidence right? Evidence? You think a bruised body and face is enough evidence in an attempted murder case? You will be shocked at how many people have binded an eye or cut off a limb by themselves to either frame someone or get away with a crime. Both the man and the woman have their narratives. It is the job of the police to unearth the truth. Now unless you know something we don't or witness the actual happenings that preceded the stabbing, I suggest you wait for the police to conclude their investigations. |

respect80: The Festus Adedayo They Thought They Could Pull Down -By Festus Adedayo
I was just informed a few minutes ago of the withdrawal of the appointment offered me as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Ahmed Lawan. I had hitherto enjoyed every of the diatribes provoked by the appointment.
I was told it was the most discussed issue in Nigeria in the last few days. Of course, it was not humanly possible for me to read the over 5000 tweets and thousands of comments on other social media. As at the time of writing this, the issue was said to be the most-discussed in Nigeria on the social media. Said to be the brainchild of some hired Rottweiler dogs loyal to some lords in the APC, a campaign dubbed #sackfestus adedayo was mounted immediately and within hours, had given birth to thousands of recruits. Many of the commentators who took liberty to harangue me have no idea of who I am and went on a railroaded binge to dress me in an alien robe.
Of a truth, I am a venomous critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, with no apologies. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Adams Oshiomhole, Ibikunle Amosu, Bukola Saraki and several others have been on the receiving end of the unkind temper of my pen. But call my attention to five pieces I did in dispraise of Tinubu, I will call yours to the three I did in his praise, at very grave danger to my life and career, even though Tinubu can’t pick me up in a crowd.
Someday when he and I meet, I hope to tell him the consequential bullet I once bit for his sake. Since 1998 when I began column-writing, I have a graveyard of public personalities whom my cudgel has whiplashed for perceived infractions in power. Give me 10 pieces I wrote in uncomplimentary review of President Buhari, I will give you 20 I did in utter vilification of Jonathan, his ministers and those close to him. Jonathan never raised a voice against me. One thing my traducers don’t know is that I have no attachment to those criticisms. I am like a prophet; once I deliver my message, I move on.
What those who are vilifying me for always writing against government should have done was to rise from their laziness and conduct an x-ray of my writing. In my close to 20 years of public sphere intervention, I am a rabid anti-establishment person. I believe that in establishment lies the plague of the Nigerian state and my writings reflect this much. Even though I am everything but a saint, I believe that government should reflect the highest moral echelon of society and those who run it should make covenant of chastity and fidelity with themselves.
More fundamentally is that my pen knows no friend or foe. Very early in my writing career, I learnt that I could go far in the people’s heart if I sided with the public against government. This was abetted by my philosophy degree background which teaches me to always look for disorder, even in order. I am a natural pessimist and see pessimism in optimism. Anyone who does a critical assessment of my journey as a columnist will see this without any equivocation.
I doubt if any government has received greater unfavourable reviews from my pen than the Olusegun Obasanjo government. His ministers were weekly captives of my acidic pen. His Chief Press Secretary, Chief Tunji Oseni, upon once inviting me to the monthly Presidential Media Chat, told me to my face that he regretted inviting a rabid anti-Obasanjo journalist like me to the event. Chief Bola Ige, God bless his soul, was the first recipient of my column’s bile in the government. He wrote Page 9 while I wrote Page 3 of the Sunday Tribune, with his Uncle Bola’s Column, even as Attorney General of the Federation.
A few weeks after the ministers’ inauguration and they were given Wardrobe allowance, I flagellated all of them, including Chief Ige, a known acolyte of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who owned the medium. When Chief Ige reacted to my attack and spoke of me in bad light, I took him up again and almost insinuated that he was senile. Rather than take further umbrage, he apologized to me. This was the Ige who, one day when I went to his house, in the company of other colleagues, once commended my writing.
Very scant people know that the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is my friend. A few weeks ago, I rudely dragged him to the public square over his decision to cancel the N3000 school fees in the state, so much that those who know my association with him asked if there was a dissonance in our relationship. If you rummage through the archives, you would see lacerations on the body of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, products of my unkind jabs. It began from 1999. If I have written 100 articles referencing Abubakar, we may barely find three that are positive about him. Apart from seeing him on the television, I probably saw him once in my life in the crowd.
Former governors Niyi Adebayo of Ekiti State, Olusegun Osoba, Adebayo Alao-Akala, Rashidi Ladoja received unkind tackles from me. I am very close to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; the day I felt his decision was against my people of Akure, I wrote against him. Rummage through the archives, you would see how I pounced on Senator Bukola Saraki severally with my pen; you would think we once sparred over possession of same woman. The truth is, my writings are political party and tribe-blind. I detest injustice, politics and run away from politicians as much as I can. One thing you cannot accuse me of being complicit of is the vermin that has eaten into the fabrics of my journalism profession. While I am not a saint, I have never blackmailed anyone in my life and I have very scant veneration for the god of Mammon.
The person who nominated me for this office under contention will bear me witness: I told him point blank when he intimated me of the proposed nomination that I had sworn never to do the job of a publicist again in my life, after my two experiences in government. It is a job that almost asks for your life; where you have no respite of any kind. More importantly, all my life, I have never lobbied for any office. Second is that, I believe that my stints in government have almost killed the deposit of writing talent in me. Judging by my beginning as a writer, today I should be one of Africa’s most-read fiction writers.
Meeting Senate President Ahmed Lawan in Abuja rekindled my hope in Nigeria. Like me, he is tribe-blind. He is also very unassuming and cerebral. He interviewed me and another candidate as if we were in a doctoral defence class and settled for me as his choice. Nigerian politicians have a lot to learn from that gentleman and his politics of blindness to tribe and political party affiliation. He told me he wanted excellence and would pick whoever among us he saw as equating that score.
I have read all manner of lies concocted against me on the social media by politicians, all because they want this job at all cost. I do not have any problem with that. One post said Tinubu gave me a Lexus jeep. Those who are close to me know how mendacious this is as I have never even entered such Luxury in my life. That I was considered for the job is enough happiness for me and that, in my life, I would see a Nigerian like Lawan who has such pan-Nigerian mindset, is a great accomplishment.
I was told the job has been withdrawn. I thank Lawan for the offer. He will be my model of a good Nigerian forever. If those who spearheaded the attack thought it would silence me in my bid for a good country, they have another think coming. I can never be silenced. I will always advocate for a good country; whether it hurts Buhari or anyone.
If I had finally settled for the job, I would be doing it at a great cost. I am right now a student of the Nigerian Law School and the rules forbid my working while a student. I would have had to walk away from a painful studentship I embarked upon last November that will come to an end in about two and half months from now. It is providence in action that I am not going to have the job.
To those who spearheaded it, I have no space in my heart for any acrimony against them. It has further strengthened my belief that we must rid Nigeria of hate and politics of the stomach. One thing that Nigerians who read my column should be rest assured of is that I will never waver on the side of power or any politician in government for a pot of porridge. According to Bob Goldstein, “a principle isn’t a principle until it costs you something.” I am happy that this is what my quest for a good society, through my writing, has cost me. This is my creed.
https://thenigerialawyer.com/the-festus-adedayo-they-thought-they-could-pull-down-by-festus-adedayo/ Well crafted and constructed drivel if you ask me. Adedayo should learn from Adeniyi, Abati, Adeshina and the likes that it is a taboo to defecate in a pool and turn around to drink from that same pool It was wrong for the Senate President to even consider you for a role in a government you treat with such disdain. It is even wronger for you to have considered accepting the role. There are a lot of non-partisan, competent hands that can be brought in to do the same job. Pick a side and stay true to your ideals and creed...if you have any. |

chelseaeternity: From: collinsuchendusblog.com
Governor Emeka Ihedioha has reversed the status of the newly converted Imo State University of Agriculture and Technology, Umuagwo, to its earlier polytechnic status.
The immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, at the end of his administration elevated the polytechnic to a university status and appointed a Vice Chancellor.
Okorocha moved the polytechnic to Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state. However, in a statement issued in Owerri, the state capital by the Secretary to the state government, Uche Onyeagucha said that the governor has reversed the institution to its original status.
The governor, according to the statement has appointed an acting rector, following the retirement of Wance Madu.
The statement reads “the visitor to Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo and the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha CON, has directed the immediate reopening of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo for normal academic activities.
“Resultant upon the expiration of the tenure of the Rector who has since proceeded on terminal leave, the most senior academic staff in the Polytechnic Dr. Paddy N. Njoku is hereby appointed the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic effective from today June 10, 2019.
The Polytechnic community and all Stakeholders thereof are advised to cooperate and accord him all necessary support.”
