I am a supporter of Buhari. I am not sad about the victories recorded by the Nigerian army in the Northeast. I commend our army for the speed with which they are reclaiming territory lost to Boko Haram in the last few years.
I am sad that it took this government all these time and the unfortunate death of thousands of civilians and soldiers to provide the necessary support to our armed forces to prosecute the war against terror.
I am sad that hundreds of civilians lost their lives in Baga and we hear reports today that it took the Nigerian Army only 3 hours to flush out the same terrorists from Baga.
I am sad that the Nigerian Army has recorded more victories in the last 2 weeks than it has in the entire campaign against terrorists....A more positive approach to the war earlier than now would have prevented the needless deaths that have been recorded.
I am sad that in spite of the huge amount budgeted to security over the last 5 years, we are only beginning to see positive results 2 weeks after what would have been our general elections.
So, yes I commend the troops for the magical turnaround in the war against terrorism.....i even commend the FG for finally waking up to its responsibility. But please allow me to be sad and mourn those that have died due to the tardiness in the onslaught against terrorism. |

I will blame the courts for allowing the owners of Amigo Supermarket to go scot-free. I won't blame the courts because courts can only adjudicate based on facts before them. If the facts brought against the Fawaz brothers by the DSS (who I believe prosecuted the case on behalf of the federal government) were not hard enough to prove the case of terrorism beyond reasonable doubt, the courts have no choice but to set them free and restore all their rights. Don't forget that the brothers are naturalised Nigerian citizens now, with rights guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution. I think the DSS needs to reopen its investigation based on this new insight. Nigeria must not be portrayed as a safe haven for terrorists. Our image is bad enough as is. |

Bash92: The Federal Government said on Thursday that troops had so far recaptured 29 towns held by Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East in the renewed offensive against them. The Coordinator, National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, announced this while giving an update on troops’ operations in the area at a news conference. Omeri listed the towns and villages recaptured from the insurgents in the last two weeks as: Abba Jabari, Gajigana, Gajiram, Damakar, Kumaliwa, Bosso, Wanti, Jeram and Karisungul. The others are: Mafa, Gamboru-Ngala, Malam- Fatori, Abadam, Marte, Monguno and Baga, all in Borno state. He also listed Gujba and Gulani, in Yobe as towns captured from the terrorists. In Adamawa, Omeri said the troops had retaken 11 towns and settlements earlier held by Boko Haram. They are: Hong, Mubi North and Mubi South, Maiha, Michika, Shuwa, Wuro Gyambi, Gombi, Vimtim, Uba and Bazza. Omeri urged the citizens to show patriotism and appreciate the efforts and sacrifices being made by the military and other security personnel in prosecuting the war against terror. He also urged citizens to “shun the trend of cynicism among some unpatriotic Nigerians” who, he said, ascribed recent success in the anti-terror war to external forces rather than the Nigerian troops. www.today.ng/news/military-has-so-far-recaptured-29-towns-from-boko-haram-fg/ Wow! That is fantastic news. I hope they can clear out the other towns before the elections so that life can return to normal. It is sad that it took our government this long to launch a full scale offensive against boko haram...but better late than never. 29 towns!!! |

9jaroof: The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said he will not stop attacking the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
The governor, who said he owed nobody any apology for exposing the alleged hypocrisy of the APC leaders, accused them of placing personal interests above national interest.
Fayose, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, was reacting to criticisms that had trailed his campaign for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party and his continuous attacks on Buhari.
He however said, he had nothing personal against Buhari.
According to him, the APC has not only packaged lies and tried to foist such on Nigerians, it has also compromised the Independent National Electoral Commission to rig the election earlier scheduled for February 14.

AKPOSbaba: NATIONAL Co-ordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, yesterday, said that six million members of the group have resolved to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan at the March 28 presidential polls.
He said OPC members took the decision at their National Co-ordinating Council meeting after taking time to assess President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Major Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the disclosure at his Lagos residence while hosting Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Hon Kingsley Kuku, who came to solicit his and OPC’s support for Jonathan’s re-election. Adams said OPC is rooting for Jonathan because of his human rights records in not arresting or detaining any activist since he came to power, convocation of national conference and promise to implement the 633 recommendations that will help to restructure the country, which he said is in the interest of the Yoruba and South-west.
He said: ‘’OPC is a group of six million people. We sat down at our National Co-ordinating Council to decide on who to vote for between President Jonathan and Buhari and the support for Jonathan is unanimous.”
”Now, we have come out to support Jonathan because of the National Conference. We have been clamouring for National Conference since 1992, even our leaders could not organise it. President Olusegun Obasanjo organised the National Political Reforms Conference with a lot of no-go areas. In the end there was a stalemate. ”Now a minority, Jonathan, did it. The only no-go area is the unity of the country. He gave us open cheque to decide the future of Nigeria.”
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/polls-6m-opc-membersll-vote-for-jonathan-adams/ If the "6 million OPC members" include the 4 that provide security in my Close, then Mr Adams and the PDP are sitting on a very loooong thing. Being supportive of the opposition is also a very good thing. If there was no.opposition in Nigeria Jonathan would never ever have been president. But going by the discussions on this thread, no one has been able to state for a fact that this government has constructed or even rehabilitated 25,000km of roads across the country. torhuke: don't be silly Op especially with the last line of your post. How old are you? Were you traveling by road b4 2011? Have you been travling by road since last year? Are the roads the same as they were b4 2011. Don't just sit in your village and cast aspersions. Move out of your mischievous cocoonery, do some travles across major roads and then come back here to tell what you see. Why don't you present a logical basis for your argument like the OP has done instead of this obtuse attempt at bullying as usual. The simple question is: Has GEJ constructed 25,000km of roads during his tenure as claimed in his campaigns?? If Lagos - Ibadan express way is at least 140 kilometers, has this government built 179 of such roads across the country? If it has, can you please list at least 20 of such roads and their lengths? Or is there a web page where we can access a list of these constructed roads? |

In one voice, you claim to believe in Buhari but you have overnight joined the ranks of those who are intent on tearing him down by any means. I am surprised there are members of the PDP here whop rejoice over you like a long lost brother...in saner environments, you would be treated as a pariah by both sides...seen as a traitor by the one and treated as a rank outsider by the other, never quite gaining the level of trust needed to be inducted into the inner caucus. You and I know there are no fences here so claiming to be a dispassioned political commentator in this here Nigeria is a fallacy Let me reiterate that I am not the sort to knock you for your personal choices. But been someone I held in high esteem, I believe I owe it to you to tell you exactly how your current position appears to an onlooker. Take a random sampling of all those who have "welcomed" you to the PDP fold. Don't you see a common trait in them? Does any of them strike you as people who would cross over to the other side just because they have a personal difference with one of their comrades? Isn't it then strange that this rabid supporters are quick to "celebrate" you for being a turncoat? My brother, use your tongue to count your teeth. |
