The PDP had the opportunity of taking the Senate. All that was needed was for one PDP senator to nominate a David Mark or any other ranking senator from the Party and it would have been a clean sweep. What those renegade APC senators did was akin to a dangerous game of Russian roulette. Thankfully, the hammer slammed home on an empty chamber this time...but like every true gambler knows, it is only a matter of time before it all goes south. Senator Saraki needs to use this recess to mend fences with his party before his treacherous act comes back to bite him in the behind. |

Politics › Re: Rivers Assembly Declares Local Govt Poll Illegal by Reptyle(m): 7:29am On Jun 09, 2015 |
naija2dabone: The Rivers state House of Assembly has paved the way for the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, to dissolve the local government councils reconstituted by the former Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, six days to the end of his tenure.
The assembly, in its sitting on Monday, declared the May 23 council elections in the state illegal and passed a resolution directing the state governor to dissolve the state Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
The assembly also directed the governor to sack the state Judicial Service Commission (RSJSC) for its role in the protracted crisis in the state judiciary.
The resolutions came after principal officers of the RSIEC and RSJSC appeared before the lawmakers following their summons.
Twenty-nine out of the 32 members of the 8th Assembly took the resolution after grilling the officers for hours, about their activities in the commissions.
Speaker of the House, Ikuinyi Ibani, who stated that the assembly would remain "thorough, fair and clear in its proceedings", divided the House after the submissions of the Leader, Martins Amaewhule, and his deputy, Lolo Denabari, that the officers violated their oaths of office.
Ibani cautioned: "There are certain things you don't have to let to occur while you hold a position of trust. It is my belief that any decision we take on the floor of this chamber is true and in the best interest of the state. It is not witch-hunting. The documents we have showed a different thing. We must deepen democratic values as lawmakers.
"Going by the resolution of this House, we do resolve that the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, is hereby given the power to remove the members of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission (RSJSC) from office.”
http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/rivers-assembly-declares-local-govt-poll-illegal/211483/ I doubt very much that the Rivers States House of Assembly has the power to order the dissolution of the LG. Methinks only the courts are empowered to do that. I may be wrong.... |

dtruth3: The much talked about change has come, what more could be said that hasn't been said already during the campaign. "i will do this, and i will do that; just give us your mandate and things will automatically change for better" Prominent amongst them is the promise of ONE SQUARE MILL FOR EVERY NIGERIAN CHILD EVERY DAY!
But barely 24hours after our mandate has been given, the story has changed!
The story now is... *We need time, things will not happen over night.
Inasmuch as time is required, but the question is how much time, does the proponents of change really wants from Nigerians, before they can bring the magic wand promised during the campaign?
Note: there was no time request during the campaign, the change proponents painted a picture of an AUTOMATIC change once voted in. It was based on this Nigerians voted. Now its been days, and running into weeks, yet no sign of any change in place. No mill for our children in schools as promised, not even a half pack of Indomie is prepared for them, instead it's still business as usual, or even worst than before.
#Babaonechance give us Our daily mills! The word is "meal" and not "mill" please!!! Haba!!! |
Politics › Re: Perception Vs Reality, Is President Buhari Poor? by Reptyle(m): 6:07pm On Jun 07, 2015 |
The man never said he was poor.
Been a man of modest means does not necessarily mean you are poor. Even if we do not yet have a clear idea of what is contained in his asset declaration form, we do know by his own admission that he owns a thriving farm in Daura with at least 150 heads of cattle. We also know he owns at least one house in Kaduna and another in Daura.
We also know he draws pensions from the army as a retired general and from the government as an ex-president. We also know that he was a rallying point and enjoys a lot of goodwill in the northern part of the country. That does not strike me as a man who is poor in the true sense of the word. |

I Firefire: Scandal: Buhari’s declared asset close to N900Million,but allegedly borrowed N27Million from the Bank to be able to pay for his nomination paper as a candidate..” —Dr. Wumi Akintide
I am predicting that the Buhari Government are going to have the shortest honeymoon with Nigerians and many of their ardent supporters in the mainstream and social media and rightly so. Unless Buhari changes his current lethargic and snail speed approach to governance, he is going nowhere but down to put it bluntly.
There is no way Buhari is going to meet the huge expectations of Nigerians if he continues to drag his feet and simply look the other way all because he wants to be too careful and painstaking in taking decision. I know there is a limit to how much we can expect from a 73 year old man who is probably going to fall asleep or take a fall climbing the steps like 90 year old Robert Mugabe has been doing lately to the total embarrassment of Zimbabwe because the man does not know where to draw the line and call it quit.
Nigerians fully understand that Buhari is not a Houdini or Professor Moshudi Peller, Nigerian greatest magician. Buhari himself has tried to lower Nigerians’ expectation on that score because he probably knows his limitations. Some of you might think it is too early to start passing judgment on Buhari but I am going to do it because I care too much about the man because I knew him in his prime as an incorruptible leader with very low tolerance level for corruption.
I was a little bit taken aback when the man recently declared his asset. It was close to 900 million Naira. Here was a man who had to borrow 27 million from the Bank to be able to pay for his nomination paper as a candidate. Nigerians now know that the man is far much richer than he wanted Nigerians to believe when he started his campaign. That asset compared to any of his peers like Babangida, Sani Abacha, Obasanjo, Abdulsalam Abubakar, and Ebele Jonathan has to be viewed as only a drop in the ocean. I sure get that but I am still a bit surprised. The asset he declared was done like the old one where he could not be charged for perjury or over-up if he or his Vice President had lied in the declaration. It was nonsense pure and simple…
I am aware that other African leaders like Mobutu Sese Seko, Houphet Boigny, and Emperor Jean Bokasa were far much richer in their life time than most of our leaders, but you still have to wonder how our leaders plunder their countries to get richer the whole country. Ebele Jonathan the shoeless canoe man of Otuoke is almost as rich as Bill Gates or Dangote today if you add the wealth of his power-drunk first lady.
I fully understand that Buhari who has voluntarily dropped his title of a General in the Nigerian Army is proceeding with great caution because he does not want to look like a dictator or being blackmailed or stigmatized as one by the PDP, and even by some elements in his own party who want to act and behave like the PDP did for 16 years of total impunity and recklessness in Nigeria
I concur that Buhari needs to proceed with caution but caution is one thing and lethargy, sloppiness and foolhardiness belong to a different kettle of fish for a man who was a former Head of State for 20 months from August 1983 as a military dictator. They constitute a different ballgame and for a man who has sought the office of a civilian President for 12 consecutive years and should have been fully ready to know some of the things he wants to do, and some of the individuals he would need to get the job done. He ought to have known what the Nigerian Constitution would permit him to do with the consensus of his party majority in both Houses of Parliament. He does not come away now like a man who has gone thru that baptism of fire and conviction. He does not look to me like a proactive President right now. He looks like somebody waiting to react to events as they occur which is not good enough. You accuse the man of owning a property worth 2 billion naira in one breathe and accuse him in the next of declaring assets with almost a billion naira. Please make up your mind already. |

Even at the 11th hour, President Jonathan still doesn't get it.
As always, he makes everything that befalls Nigeria and Nigerians about himself. He sees every situation as a ploy to bring down his government and adopts a "siddon look" posture until the issues escalates.
That was how it happened with the Boko Haram crises, the Chibok girls, the ASUU strike and now the current fuel crisis. Even if you conclude that the issues are attempts to "sabotage" government, shouldn't a responsible government move to rescue the situation and evolve proactive measures to forestall future occurrences? |

Keyamo was prosecuting the case on behalf of the federal government. Now that power is changing hands to the APC, anyone with a bit of common sense should know that in line with best practice and ethics, Keyamo, who is a card carrying member of the APC cannot continue to prosecute the case against Timipre Silva who is also an APC member.
I guess common sense isn't so common these days....even among people who should know better. |

barcanista: Buhari is either a pretender or has been compromised. He should start his corruption fight from Sanusi, the Abachas, Tinubu, Amaechi, Bagudu, Goje etc, he should stop fooling himself.
As for public asset declaration, buhari can't do ANYTHING about it because the constitution clearly states that people declare assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau and it never said they make public. It is at the prerogative of office holders to publicise theirs or leave it as specified. If Buhari need it public, he should fight for the amendment of the relevant sections of the constitution which requires 2/3rd of National Assembly consent and approval from 2/3 States Houses of Assembly.
BabaOneChance is overrated at best! Well at least he can DO SOMETHING about the people who will make up the FEC under his administration by making it a condition for appointment. He does not need an act of parliarment or a legislation to make that happen. The drive for probity and transparency in government will not happen overnight. All that is needful however, is for those in the lead to model it and others will gradually follow as the people that elected them will compel them to. The constitution was drafted by people for people....the constitution can and will be reviewed by people when necessary. |

For you to dictate terms of hand over and even giving an ultimate is unacceptable at all. All the agencies have perm secs who will furnish GMB led govt every info he needs. I blame GEJ, his gentlemanness is to a fault. It is not GEJ's prerogative to do a hand over. Nigeria is not his personal business to do with as he pleases. There are things for which he could be put on trial and jailed if not properly and clearly documented and handed over. The reason for setting up transition committees on both the outgoing and incoming sides of government is to ensure that there is a smooth hand over of affairs. The mandate of 2 weeks was issued to the APC's transition committee. Why is that such a big deal? |

Billyonaire: Why is the information at the public domain, and why are they asking PDP for suggestion on how to fix the problems, I think they won election promising magical changes and now are asking for advise. It is in the public domain because there has been an attempt to demonise General Buhari and accuse him of usurping the powers of a sitting government. The request for "advise" was aimed at the transition committee...not at the PDP. Read that line again for better understanding. |
