Just another case of a poor implementation of a good policy. Our governments over time have always managed to put the cart before the horse. |
At OP At what point did the minister state that the pipeline was been vandalized in Lagos specifically? |
The link below makes for interesting reading on the subject matter: http://taiwosworld..com/2012/07/female-regents.html |
DerideGull: How many royal families do you have in Yoruba land or does it mean every family in Yoruba land is royal family? The Akure monarchical system is designed so that there are several traditional ruling families. The throne is rotated among these families. once it is the turn of any of the ruling houses, any male member of that family can aspire to become oba. The oracle will ultimately decide who mounts the throne. The new Oba will then sit on the throne until his death or deposition as was the case with the penultimate Oba who was deposed by Mimiko's government for assaulting one of his wive's physically. The throne then rotates to the next ruling house. Following the death of the king, a regent, usually his first daughter is appointed to oversee the affairs of the kingdom pending the conclusion of the burial rites of the deceased king and the installation of a new king. She is not referred to as an Oba but as Adele. I do not know for sure why it has to be a woman. my guess is that they need someone who isnt under any illusions about the specificity of the temporary nature of her role and might begin to suffer delusions of grandeur and aspire to become permanent. Traditionally, a woman cannot be King in yoruba land, but there have been situations where a regency lasts for years...even decades. |
Symphony007: stop fooling yourself. Get a t.v and watch a newcast or tune your radio to any station and listen to the news. Every member of the boy's farmily and even the survivors farmilies has said non of the boys were politicains. This has been repeated in the media since morning and the police don't seem to know what to say. Nigeria info radio interviewed the brother of the deceased at their home in emuoha and even the brother of a survivor at the university of port harcourt teaching hospital. Stop drinking that kool aid and aknowledge the deep unproffesionalism of the rivers state police command. You really should quit responding to trolls... |
fabulous4u: read what you wrote again and just admit you are just a big foolCan't you make your point without insults?? |
I believe in one Nigeria!!! |
taharqa: Interesting article.... I wud also love to hear d RSG's side shaYou might want to skim through the thread below: https://www.nairaland.com/1571142/ross-alabo-george-why-fg-doesn Kelsoft provided some insights on the same issue therein. |
The lizard said to itself that if no one will commend it for surviving the fall from the top of the great iroko tree, it will commend itself....that is why it nods its head in self adulation always.... ![]() |
@Kelsoft Thank you for balancing the story. I always have my suspicions when I read a skewed story. |
hercules07: African countries have not had it good after separation, Sudan and Ethiopia/Eritrea come to mind. The disintegration of Nigeria is going to be violent and I do not see it happening for some time. There are too many vested interests in the Nigerian project for it to happen without violence, the international community will also not allow it except it is peaceful. The aftermath is also going to be very very violent, the North will descend into chaos because the BH guys will want to take over, the Christians in the North will want to defend themselves, the Niger Delta guys will fight for resources internally and externally, Biafra will need to fight the Niger Delta for resources and the spill over of the war in the North will bring refugees East, Yorubas will have to deal with the North and fallout of religious wars, so many things will happen in the event of a breakup. I will rather we have a true federal constitution where states can develop at their pace and control the bulk of governance power. These are my sentiments exactly. |
macof: I don't think your ears and eyes are open because if they are you would know that NL is small.I am aware that there are as many staunch proponents of disintegration as there are of a one unified Nigeria. Both the ye and naysayers cut across all of the regions. Apart from groups like MASSOB and a few others however, most of the agitations for a division are online on sites like Nairaland. |
Alfa Seltzer: We are well aware of the saboteurs in our midst. We will deal with them when the time comes. It is thinking like yours that will ensure your region never knows peace even if you succeed in your secessionist drive. Some people within your region will continually seek to lord it over others describing them as "saboteurs" and striving to deal with them. These "saboteurs" will definitely resist been "dealt with" and before you know it, you are back to square one. Please note that these "saboteurs" are not an exclusive preserve of the south-east but exist in all of the regions. |
All the agitators for division exist only on Nairaland. The people that matter know the implication of division and WILL NEVER allow it to happen...at least not deliberately. The sooner we learn to live together in peace and harmony, the better for us all. We do not always have to be friends...but we can get along if we apply our minds to it. |
Found this picture online. it is not very clear but I think it is clear enough to show that the stadium was not as "empty" as the OP claimed. www.nairaland.com/attachments/1482065_1fullstadium_jpga20ec36e43b570f8437ca5b00fcd0392 www.nairaland.com/attachments/1482066_2fullstadium_jpg9c1832e654812fcd696c507d491f6c6d

Dunno about the empty stadium seats, but I watched the rally on Channels TV and I did see quite a respectable turnout of people at the stadium. This picture could have been taken at anytime during the event....at the beginning, at the end or even a day before the event. Also like someone else pointed out, seeing that the rally was put on a work day, it would be normal for there to be a low turn out. Whether you like it or not, Amaechi has his loyal crowd in River State. I have visited Rivers 3 times this year and from my random sampling of opinions, the man is not as unpopular as y'all trying to paint him. |
With the current craze for bullet proof cars by our friends in government, it is looking like 2015 is going to be tough. May God save our country. |
kelechiodo: Adams Oshiomhole has given Edo state teachers xmas presents by sacking 836 teachers and not paying them their December salary. according to report, The Edo State government has sacked 836 teachers following a verification exercise carried out by the state’s Department of Information and Communication Technology.Dude what are you on about? Would it have been better for the governor to retain the affected people in service based on their description above? |
eGuerrilla: So what happens to commissioners who are unaffiliated to either party?Well I guess the governor's statement must mean that there are no non-aligned political appointees in Kano State. |
There surely must be something about having worked at the world bank that makes these two women believe they have attained god-like status and must be worshipped wherever they go. Respect is reciprocal and it's not just in saying it, but acting it. Mrs Ezekwesili's description of a legislator as no better than a "research assistant" just shows the mindset and the contempt she and her ilk have for people in that office. I have watched the video of the exchange between madam minister and Mr. Committee chairman and all I can see is a woman who came to d session with an "am doing y'all a huge favour by gracing you with my presence" attitude and a man who was determined to have none of that. She claimed she was ill and she was asked to go with the questions, provide written answers and return in January. What else did the minister want to say? In my opinion she was just as guilty as the legislator in the uproar that resulted. This isn't about politics. |
Kairoseki77: What do you think?PDP used to be a national party...now they are no better than any of the other regional parties. |
ochukoccna: Having seen the video of this so called exchange, NOI should take a chill pillI share your opinion. The minister probably wasn't expecting to be blind-sided by the legislators after she complained about the state of her health. She probably expected them to commend her for her decision to attend the session despite her ill-health. Getting the unceremonious rebuff and off-hand dismissal after her effort to be there in spite of her medical circumstances obviously upset her leading to her statement. She did not show much respect for the office of the committee chairman by her statements. The chairman seeing that the matter was getting out of hand should have also given her the opportunity to make a statement rather than allowing the session degenerate to a shouting match. |
Sidajili: The Airframe and structure was designed by the NAF. The entire aircraft composite was built off the mould in the NAF base. There is a fully functioning composite manufacturing unit in place. There is a wind tunnel which the president & CNC commissioned on same day. No one sold anything structures. Its fully indigenous, by Nigerians on Nigerian soil. Come visit AFIT.Impressive! |
It is a very good start. I believe this model will continue to evolve till we have something we can all be proud of. Kudos to the engineers. |
scipher: before your father settled down (before and after bachelorhood) he has not created a 'hand fan' in his life, let alone, commission any project.. once they start mass production of that drone, I'll personally buy an armed version to kill your entire family lineage.Must you reduce every discourse to the banal level of insults and abuse ![]() |
sademola: The reps should learn to be civil!Members of the house of reps can be unruly sometimes. But I think on this occasion, the Minister should have simply accepted the questions and return in january like they asked. |
lincolnj88:I do not agree they should be scrapped. They are the more active chamber of the federal legislature...much more active than David Mark's senate. I just think they need to tone down the radicalism a bit. A forum for the President to present the budget should not degenerate to a shouting match between political parties. |
They would have heckled the hell out of President Jonathan. It is a good thing he saved himself that embarrassment. |
President Goodluck is probably just scared of been heckled by radical members of the House of Reps. That would be pretty embarrassing. |
Habakus: He that comes to equity must do so with clean hands. I bet Obj was too full of himself to envisage that his infamous letter to GEJ would unearth such dirty secrets about him.His evil agenda have been bared for all to see by none other than his own very daughter.Talk about cruel twist of fate! In saner climes this man Obj should be somewhere hiding his head in deep shame for all the atrocities he committed...How about the several political assasinations that happened during his disastrous regime that no one has been brought to justice for? How about the series of constant fuel scarcity palava that were the hallmark during his tenure? How about the numerous politcal witch-hunting of perceived enemies by the EFCC and their likes during his tenure? What of the ethnic cleansing that took place at several places by the military under his watch? What of the illegal privatisations and sales of various sectors of the nation's collective wealth to himself and his cronies during his tenure? How about his bid to perpetuate himself by going for a third tenure? Not all Nigerians are dumb.we know the people causing these problems, except if we want to continue deceiving ourselves. To those who say that the letter by Iyabo to Obj was not duly signed,i ask you to show me where this her purported denial note was signed. Peace.Perhaps you are the only one in this country that thought OBJ was a saint...I'm sure everyone else knew that the man was not perfect...now you know also; that is if you choose to believe that Iyabo actually wrote that letter to her father. But be that as it may, it still does not negate the fact that the posers raised by OBJ in his open letter to President Jonathan are weighty enough to deserve a response. The question now is when will the President and his lackeys do the needful ![]() |
Why can we not ever have a government that owns up to its failure? They complain about vandals like it isn't part of their duties to provide security and get rid of vandals. After voting billions for security every year, all we are fed with are excuses. God save this country! |
